[Q] CPU Governers Cyanogenmod 11 - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, yesterday I flashed my Samsung Galaxy S3 (intl) i9300 with Cyanogenmod 11 snapshot build (cm-11-20140210-SNAPSHOT-M3-i9300.zip).
All is good, except that the battery life isnt as good as the stock Touchwiz 4.3. So I went through the CPU governers post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1736168 and read all them.
But in my device, I only have 5 governers:
ondemand
userspace
powersave
pegasusq
performance

Currently I am using ondemand. I want to use either ondemandx or conservative to save my battery. Why are those not available in the options?
Also after selecting userspace I cannot get to select min and max frequencies that always remains disabled? Is there any way to enable it?
I am new to modding and android so sorry if this sounds to lame. Thanks for helping in advance !!!!

The link you provided is from HTC sensation forum. Most of the governors mentioned there are not for our phone.
Also since you have installed cyanogen only, you have only stock cyanogen kernel. To play around with governors you need a custom kernel, which has more governor choices and many more settings to save battery. Also u can overclock or underclock the frequencies.
Try the kernels present in S3 I9300 forums only. Dont wander into other phone's forums and install their kernels, u will brick your phone.

Thanks lefttobleed. Will stick to ondemand have been getting good battery life after switching from pegasusq. Will explore custom kernel as I further explore android development.:good:

800mhz, smartassv2, deadline, smooth
I'm also be proud of my battery. Check this out:
ROM: STOCK 4.0.2.A.0.62
Kernel: STOCK 2.6.32.9-perf
Baseband: -64
I used it when I need, so some sms, calls
I got better result with advanced stock kernel than VDS kernel (modified for optimax). But 5 days.. wow
It's not so impressive, i think anyone can do that kind of results if you don't use your device frequently. I tried that several weeks ago with my Ray.
kernel: 2.6.32.9-perf
Version: 4.0.4
Firmware: 4.1.B.0.587

Thanx Web_E
Maybe a combination of options from the aroma installer decisive.. dont know for sure, but impressive result.. very satisfied.
I forgot to mention brightness, 40%
Thanks for mentioning my rom. And OptiKernel Battery is VDS kernel but with linario and init.d support.Linario makes stuff smoother and via init.d you get gpu rendering better. So if you use original vds then check OptiKernel battery
Are these results possible on JB kernels? Such as PACman? Now I got 1 day... max 2 days on battery... My maximum was 3,5 day on stock GB.

Error with Nandroid Backup and performance my S3

Hi, i have some questions...
1) Some days ago i tried to make a Nandroid Backup by CWM touch ver. 6.0.x.x but i got the message that the systen can't mount the image on Sd.
Then i couldn't boot my phone because the system was blocked on Samsung logo screen!
I was forced to make a full wipe and i installed the apps again...
2) I have my S3 in signature and i applied a pegasusq governor with row scheduler. I tested by Quadrant app and i left this configuration.
But using Antutu benchmark app i have discovered these results:

Why have i these bad results compared to standard S3 that Antutu has into its archive?
3) How can i increase the touchscreen sensibility?
Thank you for your attention..

2) my firmware is an original international stock ver. 4.1.2 and the configuration you can find in my signature.
I setted max freq cpu at 1800Mhz and governor and scheduler are as said in my precedent post.
What can i modify to obtain better performance results?
Update: my bad result was caused by energy save enabled!
I didn't know that the energy save takes this bad result!!!
Now, after to have excluded cpu limit (max cpu freq is 1800Mhz) on energy save configuration i have over 17000 value on Quadrant Benchmark.
Further since few days ago i undervolted each step freq of 37,5mV and making a stability test by Antutu my smartphone has been restarted without finishing the test.
Only at 12,5mV reduction by default for each freq i can finish the test but i have this result:
Di you know how can i set much better to save power and stability?
Thank you!!

This thread is for Project Engine Kernel users to clarify their doubts or face any difficulties in using the kernel.Any Recognised Contributor who would like to help me to manage this Q&A thread is greatly appreciated
Requirements:
Galaxy Grand Quattro Device(Obviously)
Logcat(It would be easier for me or the RC to spot the issues easily
Do speak politely with one another. Its part of respecting each another and the XDA rules
If you can help, try contributing to fix issues that other users faced because we are all here to learn
FAQ:
Why is my phone's battery discharging so fast?
- Check that the amount of apps running on your background process. If there is too much applications running,i suggest you use greenify
Why is USB OTG not supported in Galaxy Grand Quattro?
- Somehow Samsung disabled USB OTG in Grand Quattro Device and I am trying to reverse-engineer the process of how they disable it and how i can fix it.I know this is quite a hot-topic among users but seriously its not as easy as you think. There are lots of consideration when coding OTG because if not handled well,it could be pose risky problems
Where do i download the zip file?
- I have imported the thread to XDA DEVDB Project so now all zip files are under the Downloads tab.You are required to use the browser or when you are in Tapatalk, click view on Web to see the Download files
What does the governor and I/O Scheduler do?
- Well there are already lots of hardworking chaps in XDA writing guides to help users. One of them is here and another one is here.Dont forget to thank them because writing this guide takes a long time for them and their hardwork should be rewarded.
What is the difference between ARM and Linaro toolchain?
- ARM toolchain is the basic compiling toolchain used for kernels and ROMs but Linaro toolchains is full of optimisations that could really make a big improvement in the kernel such as battery life and performance.Over the years, many users were elated over the speed and battery life that their device kernel can achieve through the Linaro toolchain and it is now the most well-known toolchain in XDA and other places of Earth.Well, fear not,Project Engine Kernel is compiled using Linaro GCC 4.7.4 Toolchains and therefore, you will be amazed with the difference between the stock and custom kernel.
I know there are lots of question that i cant answer all so post them here if you have enquiries
This is not your kernel issue but i need a experts help..thats why i am asking to you..i am troubling with a great problem when i running some apps..its suddenly crashes without any error msg..screen became black & came to home screen...all apps closes instantly then..i googled the problem...got a solution to delete the cache & data of apps or that particular app..i tried all that..but nothing happens..still it crashes with a black screen..please help..otherwish its became so irritating to use such a thing...i am facing this problem about 2 mnths..flashed many clear roms..tried almost evrything..your latest vr kenel also but nothing changes..please help sir...

I make 3.4.103 kernel for my personal use, but i want to share with us. It's based on cyanogenmod sources and Team Hydra. I test and everything works good. My github https://github.com/psone1/android_kernel_htc_msm8960
In mod version i add Cpu Governors and now we have:
intelliactive
intellidemand
interactive
conservative
ondemand
userspace
powersave
perfomance
OverClockable Cpu (384-1512)
Schedulers: Noop, Deadline, Row, Cfq, Fiops, Sio
Gpu Governors: performance, ondemand, simple, interactive
I made 3 different kernels. First is for latest CM11 higher then 20140818NIGHTLY because CM team change prima wifi drivers and first have tweaks and addons.
second is 3.4.103 clean, like original Cm kernel no new governors, scheduler etc.
Third is for old wifi drivers CM11 before 20140818NIGHTLY
Please Hit Thanks button, if you want update, thats motivate me for future work
In next version i plan add BLN notification, sweep2wake, gpu overclock, zRam,zCache , tweaks, fast charge and more
DOWNLOAD:
New WIFI BASE MODDED
New WIFI base no mod
OLD Wifi base CM11 before 20140818NIGHTLY
Thanks for the new work psone, it is much appreciated. I will be trying this when I get off work tonight, hopefully it fixes my issue with the screen not waking while I am in the middle of a call. THANKS AGAIN!

[Kernel] [CAF] [AOSP 4.4.4] N5X Kernel

Hi guys and gals,
[DISCLAIMER I am NOT responsible if you flash this kernel and any sort of crazy stuff happens to you, your phone, your life, etc. By flashing this kernel you take full responsibility for your phone and anything that may reside from flashing this "kernel"]
Today I bring to you the N5XPA Kernel. It features a couple of useful things for our moto x on stock AOSP/PA/CM
This kernel features:
>Overclocking (~1.889mhz max)
>User Controlled Overvolting and Undervolting
>Fast Charge
>CPU Governors Interactive, Performance, Ondemand, Powersave, etc.
>GPU Governors Interactive, Simple, Performance, Ondemand, etc.
>I/O Governors row, cfq, deadline, noop
>TCP Congestion Control Governors cubic, and reno
All Credits for this kernel go to the n5x team I am just sharing a very nice kernel that deserves lots of love.

agora vai
So, do the overclocks stick?

Yes the over clock sticks. Sadly on faux you need his app to over clock and have it stick. But on here it works.
Does this work on Krypton?
Nope. Its for aosp. Krypton is stock based
Can someone pm me the link please
I would also like the dl. Could I get the link too?
Read the last sentence in the first post.
Just saying, what's the purpose of the post if the download is not available?
Op, add "announcement" in the thread title so as to not be misleading.
Thanks for sharing my work friend! If users want to test my Rom for Moto X (CM Based and PA Based), go to http://n5x.mobi
I installed the ROM and love it, but battery drain is absolutely killing me. Got any suggestions? I did a clean flash... What's the dilly?
Will this kernel work on cm11?
I happen to really like the n5x ROM with Gapps, more than cm11 but like I said above, my battery drain while running it is unbelievable. Now that the kernel is available, I'm gonna try it on cm11 and hope for better results but I imagine it's not going to work out for me. But, for the moment, let's hope for the best, eh? Thanks, andersonaragao for great work!
