OK i have a i717 I have rooted and CWMR as long as I flash a JB rom I can get 4g LTE or any other rom however if I flash a KK rom all I can recieve is H or H+ as well as my signal drops in or out the KK roms that I have tried are :
LS-KK-v3.0-2014-02-15-quincyatt
Slim-quincyatt-4.4.beta.1-UNOFFICIAL-20131202-1440
BeanStalk-4.4.249-20140220-quincyatt
CandyKat-v1.1-20140220-quincyatt
Currently I am running :
BlackStar BlackJelly ver 2 = 4g LTE
none of the above KK roms i am able to receive the same signal with not just data the cell signal drops in and out. I have wiped multiple times before installing any new this includes the system as well as cache and dalvik etc. No matter how i install or how many times i wipe no success has any had this issue before or have a solution? I would like a lite rom for KK Short of editing the rom myself I do not know what the issue is. Do these roms just not support LTE speeds or...........
I thought H+ was LTE ?

It's close, but not technically LTE.
IDK if you tried this but: go to dialer, *#*#4636#*#* then click phone settings, scroll down to preferred network type and select LTE/GSM. also go to settings, more, and select the LTE APN for your carrier.
4G/LTE
I have the same issue. I get 4g/LTE on the jellybean roms, but not on the KK roms. I have tried numerous Radios to no avail. The *#*#4636#*#* doesn't work at all. On some radios you can change the LTE/GSM, but it doesn't show it under settings in the rom. It just says "LTE recommended", but there is no way to select it.

Hey this worked like a charm. Went from 2.9mb to 9.6mb DL. First settings, connection manager, check LTE (here my speeds bumped from 2.99mb to 5.18mb. Then *#*#4636#*#* select bet. Automatic and USA Bands. I don't know on which mine's was but the latter produced the higher speeds.
Thanx!

Yes, a noob (very cool noob video!) with first question. Yes I searched - be gentle with me
Brand new I717. Never had an ATT SIM in it. Took it out of the box, network unlocked it, put a USA Tmobile SIM in it, and rooted it. Nothing else done yet. Works fine, with expected lack of 3G/4G data. To get that I have to flash a modem - Blaze or similar. This much I know. Questions:
1. I travel a lot. Mostly UK, Iceland, New Zealand. Are there any gotchas with using a custom modem overseas? Which is the best all-rounder for good data performance in USA and overseas?
2. For avoidance of doubt, is there any dependency between ROM and modem? Can I flash a custom ICS ROM e.g. Goldie and worry about modem later? Are they entirely independent? (ok that qualifies as a real noob question lol)
Thanks!
Mike
Roms and modems are independent.
I suggest your next step is to Odin flash CWM recovery.
When traveling overseas most carriers use the same frequencies as AT&T. US T-mobile is pretty unusual with their dual band set up.
So in the US follow the T-mobile suggested modem (blaze) and keep the UCLF5 modem and blaze modem on your sd card. Then you can flash either one depending on the carrier you use.
Have CWM and a few modems in cwm zip format so you don't need a pc.
Many thanks ranger; Seraphim ICS & Blaze modem installed and working and looking like Android is supposed to. Had to go in and manually select carrier before phone would show a signal, but then it came up 4G right away.
Thanks again!
Mike
You might look for the local carrier in the countries you intend to visit now and take a screen shot of the local carrier's APN settings.
Example for Canadian carrier:

That way when you get your sim you can input the APN info and get right to business.
Its easy. Just google for example "vodafone iceland apn settings".
I'm trying to unlock my I717R to put in an LTE Data SIM from Bell Mobility.
I bought the SIM today and tried inserting it. I've expected to see something like a window asking me for an unlock code.
However, I did not see anything. The phone does not pick up any network, however it sees all three available in 'Network operators' page - Rogers, Telus, and Bell.
Trying to make a call, I see 'Mobile network not available'.
I wonder how the heck I'm supposed to enter the SIM unlock code when I buy it??
My phone is i717R, radio is I717RUXLF4, firmware is CM9 Release.
Oh and BTW the SIM works OK - I've inserted in into my wife's Nexus S (unlocked), and got signal, data, and everything. Even the calls work OK however they shouldn't, but that's a different story.
HEEEELP!
The request to input unlock code only will happen with a stock gb or ics rom. You have to return to stock.
You don't have to unroot or remove CWM, you just need stock rom and modem.

Thank you Sir, you've just made my day! I was suspecting that previous owner (bought mine on Craigslist) has exhausted unlocking attempts. Paranoia is a killer, mark my word...
One more question - does it make any sense after unlocking to change radio from Rogers to Bell?
Rogers and Bell use the same frequencies, and those match at&t. So no, you can use the stock modem. You just need to input the Bell APN settings after unlocking.

Reverted to stock, unlocked, restored CM9, installed Bell SIM, APN installed by itself.
However, what I see is H in signal icon, and HSPA:11 in phone status. LTE is permitted in settings. What's wrong now?
are you in an LTE network area? I'm not.

I believe I am, Toronto, Yonge & Steeles, Bell's map shows solid LTE coverage...
Well, feel free to flash a different modem and be ready to input the Bell APN settings.

There's a thread about that from a while back. Google for it, the cure is there.
i found alot of threads. did the same thing. :/.
The usual remedy is return to at&t stock ICS and LF6 modem, set up the phone, then flash the Blaze or Skyrocket modem, then go on to the next rom you want.
Whatever rom you just flashed doesn't have the t-mobile ril and library files in the system.

You could try the LG3 modem in the first post before you return to stock.

Remember to reboot and check for correct APN values.
Mine is absolutely fine with ics blaze and im getting 4g. Did you try loading touchwiz dialer and entering *#2263# and hit automatic. See what that does if still nothing that still odin i guess...

i tried to follow the guide for restoring back to default. failed.
installed padawan again. got it to send a few mms.
installed jellybeer and got service but still no data connection
Try flashing a t-mobile modem.
put flasppjaxxs aosp on and everything i working fine
I don't know if this'll help you any, since I'm on at&t, but you might as well try.
I had the same problem a while back. I ended up going to settings - > wireless and networks - > more - > mobile networks and playing with the settings. It turned out I had the wrong apn.
I flashed Android revolution today selected At&t during the install and i have data i just dont seem to have LTE anymore and my "4g" is super slow. Is this a radio issue?
Installing the rom (As I have the same), does not update your firmware nor your radios. Go over to the international thread and search the ARHD thread ...ya might get a faster answer there. Are you referring to the LTE symbol being missing? If so, by selecting AT&T as your version, I believe it replaces the LTE icon up top for the bland old 4G that AT&T uses. Since I chose the international version, I have the neat little LTE icon up top!

I did not flash any of the firmwares out there yet (the WWE is not recommended for US based carriers) but I did manually update my radios..I am on 1.16 for those and the 3.16 hboot. There is a way to get the ota but that requires the stock recovery reflashed after making a nandroid of your current setup, then taking the ota, rerooting and reinstalling custom recovery, and restoring your system from the backup if I remember correctly. That was too many steps for me just to update my radios lol

Go to setting>about>network and post a screen shot of that screen. My guess is that your "Mobile Network Type" us going to show LTE.
And what are you using to gauge the speed of your connection?
Here is a screen shot of mine. You can't go off of your signal indicator on your status bar

I have tried both Lineage and Omnirom, and I can only seem to get 3G I have tried all manner of flashable LTE fixes, I even keyed in APNs by hand.., and I briefly flashed the stock rom to update the profile and PRL i guess it is fine because I don't use the phone all that much... but it would be nice to have... it works perfectly on the Marshmallow stock rom..

Try this: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4-30E6G5pbIQnZlVlU2SjBpRDQ/view?usp=drivesdk
I've been using it for months and have a better connection then ever.
If your interested, here's a zip for the Sprint Visual Voicemail: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4-30E6G5pbIWG8tWmtqX2hUaWc/view?usp=drivesdk
It works 99%. Gets rid of those annoying text messages also.
Edit: I should mention I have found the vvm doesn't seem to work on a few roms. One being AEX last time I checked. I forget the others right now. I haven't had a chance to figure out why yet. It does work on most roms though.
still no LTE I guess I'll have to flash back to Marshmallow if i want LTE.. I was using Omnirom CDMA pops up as 4G.. but only 3g speeds
Here are the correct settings for LTE
Under settings > more > cellular networks > access point names
delete all APNS by selecting them individually then tapping the three dot overflow menu button which will give you an option to delete them one by one.
Create a new APN with the following settings then select it.

Change preferred network type to LTE. I'm using 3G on mine cause LTE doesn't work during the day in my area.
If settings do not stick immediately, reboot the phone.

I'm using the same ROM as I type and have LTE with LTE speed. Either clean flash the ROM and the zip I posted immediately after, or go into APN settings and select reset to default and reboot. It should work fine unless you just aren't getting LTE speeds where your located.
