Hello all,
I'm currently trying to develop an Android app as part of my final year of university (I would have posted this is development but I'm too new ) and I'm using my Dell Streak as the main testing device as, lets be honest, it rocks and I'm too poor to get another device. I'm running DJ_Steves Streakdroid 1.9.1 custom rom as the Android platform.
The app itself requires the usage of some sort of mapping API, and I would prefer to use the Google maps API as it has all the features I require and with it being built into a significant number of Android devices it would reach the widest range of devices whilst retaining the necessary simplicity due to being built into the SDK and ADT plugin. However when attempting to run a basic app prototype that displays a map centred on the last recorded GPS location, I run into a classDefNotFoundError every time I try to run it, indicating that the API does not exist on the device. This leads me on to a selection of questions I'd like to ask if anyone knows the answers to:
Do any of the Streakdroid versions have the maps API?
Do any other custom roms have the maps API?
Is the maps API included in the stock Froyo release?
I've read that Layar will reach WP7 with direct access to the camera for its augmented reality app, but when???
I install Wikitude but still haven't tried
Any other suggestions?
Hello guys,
I'm sorry for the stupid questions but I'm very new to mobile development. Your help would be very important.
Does anyone have experience with both dot42 and Xamarin to develop C# apps for Android?
Xamarin looks nice, but it seems that in order to have Visual Studio integration you should subscribe the business package which is quite expensive. So I've seen that dot42 has VS integration for free.
I know that I could use Xamarin Studio for free. But here are some questions about this:
- does the VS integration mean that you can use all the libraries that you can use for normal desktop apps developed in VS?
- is the GUI building similar as the one that can be created for desktop apps once one develop for Android in VS?
- if I want to chart something, I have seen that in Xamarin Studio I should buy some component. There is just a bar chart for free. If I have something integrated with VS can I use the chart tool we have in VS directly?
Thanks a lot for your help.
What technologies/platforms can I use to create an Augmented Reality Based Social Network that runs on android?
So I came up with an idea to create a social network based on AR, the basic idea is that people will be able to see content filled (images videos etc) 3d balls around them posted by other users in a specific radius (10-20km radius) these balls will float around the specific radius in real-time. So its basically a location based AR social network. There are more features but this is the basic idea. Since I'm new to programming and stuff I'm seeking some guidance on what technologies/platforms/languages can I use to build all aspects of this app for android for example the frontend, backend, the AR aspect of the app? Can unity be used to achieve this? if yes what sdks for AR can be used to do that?
Finally, I'm not planning to build a full fledged working application, just a basic prototype, any help and guidance will be useful. Thank you.
