[Q] invalid Sim Card - Sony Xperia Z Ultra

Hey guys,
I've been trying to install a custom rom with qdroid patched.
I was previously on .290, flashed a non lte firmware to downgrade by accident, and lost sim access. After which, i reverted to .290 and all works well.
However, when i tried to root .290 directly and flash another qdroid patched rom (cm10.2), the phone cant detect sim card again.
Any suggestions as of how i can avoid this?
Any advice is most welcome. =)

cm 10.2 needs a 4.2 base to work (IMEI issue) so have a read of my downgrade guide in the general section and flash [NUT]'s ftf from there this will keep the IMEI no. intact and so when you install cm10.2 it will still be there.
Every time you downgrade from 4.3 to 4.2 you will have to use that ftf or wou will lose your IMEI again

[Q] Am i doing this right?

Just got a bell 9100M carrier locked and just want to make sure i have done everything the best way possible. I've owned HTC's since the G1 and this is my first samsung. Phone is locked to bell and i am using it on rogers.
1) I've rooted with zergrush on the stock Bell 2.3.3 Rom (don't remember firmware). Used the galaxys2root.com which worked fantastic and installed CWM
2) Attempted to recover sim unlock code with Chainfire unlock tool. Failed, used Helroz Galaxy_S unlock with success.
3)Backed up rom, wiped and installed the CM9 nightly.
4)Used triangle away to reset the count
Everything seems to be working perfect, nothing seems to be missing. I'm very pleased with the device.
My questions are
1) Does Helroz unlock just modify the baseband? Will the unlock disappear if change basebands? Is there any advantage to changing to a different baseband if all is good?
2)I gather the CFroot method is mostly applicable to stock roms?
3)I can't use rommanager to install CWM. What am i missing here?
4)Download mode and Odin are mostly used to flash kernels, radios, and system files without triggering the yellow triangle?
Thanks for the help. I'm just getting my head around the differences between the way i did things with an HTC Device, i had a g1, magic, nexus one, EVO3d. Thanks for helping a samsung noob.
The first and magar thing now is to take efs backup using this
1.It modifies efs nothing with baseband, so you can flash any baseband
2.Yes CF-root for stock roms, other you flash comes prerooted
3.Yes you can't, just flash CF-root which have cwm recovery build in
4.They increase the triangle if you flash custom kernel or CF-root
So once you install CF-root always use CWM recovery(that won't increase the counter)

So now that i have used Helroz unlock tool, my phone is unlocked for good?

How to update rooted phone ?

Hello
I had rooted my S3 few days ago with this tool SAMSUNG GALAXY S3 TOOLKIT V1.0 so my phone has now root access a CWM.
Modem version I9300XXLEF
Number version IMM76D.I9300XXALEF
But notification said that there's new update available - 8,91MB installation brakes after restart cause lack of some signed files, is it possible to update my phone now but without erasing any data ?
I have found latest firmware here Samsung-Updates.com-GT-I9300_XEO_1_20120612172415_pax5uhw4id.zip XEO for Poland but don't want to loose any data from phone
Which tool should I use and what files should I use ?
Thank You for any help.
If you want to go back to stock rom why don't you use the Toolkit again? It's pretty straight forward.
Just flash the latest Firmware via CWM if you want to update.
thread: Official Stock Firmware (up to latest)
back-up via Titanium Backup if you don't want to lose your data

I'm still on stock ROM but rooted and with CWM, so there's no way just to apply modified update, or to unroot it with stock bootloader just to do an update and then root it again with CWM ?
@bordikun
Yeah, I have read it but it's full firmware/ROM if I understand it correctly, I got Titanium Backup and use it but just feel that all this is just an overkill, so many procedures just to update 8,91MB of data ?
have you tried there ?

[Q] Best way to get rid of 4.3

Hello folks,
This is my first post here, I searched for answers on the forum but didn't find them.
I had a rooted I9300 that I upgraded with the stock 4.3 firmware a couple of weeks ago. As many people I am not satisfied w/ 4.3 mostly because of the battery drain pblm.
So I tried to downgrade to the stock 4.1.2 (found on sammobile, I cannot link it but this is the french ROM from my provider). I used Odin 3.09 and I must have done smthg wrong because I couldnt reboot properly (locked on the Samsung logo).I did a hard reset of my phone and I had it running on 4.1.2 as I wanted. But I had no more network access as somehow I corrupted my IMEI # in the process. I thought that I was screwed because of course no back up... But this morning I upgraded my phone back to 4.3 via Kies and I got my IMEI back
But still my problem is not solved as I don't want 4.3 on my phone!
So here are my questions:
1) I have read that it is not possible to downgrade because of the Knox flag. I don't think that I have this flag because I don't see it in download mode and moreover, I COULD downgrade to 4.1.2 (but without network access). Then, if I back up my /efs and redo the same process, will I get a phone running on 4.1.2 with network access?
2) I would like to understand why my downgrade didnt work (beyond the Knox problem, which I think is irrelevant in my case). I have two guesses: I put the .tar.md5 file in BL instead of PDA in Odin3.09, and my flash counter wasnt set to 0. Which one is the most likely to have failed my flash? Maybe both...^^
3) Last, In the case I can't get back to my lovely 4.1.2 can I consider to flash a custom ROM from 4.3, or this upgrade will prevent me to do anything?
I am sorry guys, I know that it is a long post but thanks for your answers!!!

1) as I know s3 i9300 has no knox
2) which sammy version did you flash. probably it was somethig older than xxemg4. so with upgrade you also upgrade the baseband. as you have flashed a 4.3 rom your efs was converted to efs v2 which is not compatible with basebands older than xxemg4. if you now revert back to 4.1.2 with a baseband older than xxemg4 than your evs is incompatible with it and will not work.
solution: make efs backup - flash 4.1.2 with odin (I would suggest xxemg4 so you have definitely the right baseband) - flash xxemg4 modem (or newer modem) with odin, if it is not already included in the rom
3) you can always flash a custom rom by using a custom recovery (how to's are in general section - stickies)

The PDA was I9300XXEMC2 so the modem was XXEMC2 right? I think that it is indeed an older than XXEMG4 but this one hasn't been released in a ROM by my provider.
So I will flash again I9300XXEMC2 and then flash the XXEMG4 modem. Should I reset my flash counter to 0 before doing so (w/ triangle away) or it won't matter?
Edit: I checked Samsung naming convention, my modem was BUEMC2.

flash counter shouldn't matter. only needed to reset it is when you need it for waranty.
don't forget to make an efs backup

Of course. But as I am gonna flash a ROM prior to XXEMG4, it won't be the right efs in either case.

[Q] Need help to go from 4.1.2 to higher firmware

Hi everyone, i am on android 4.1.2/ 1.26.502.12. i got the phone when it came out. Back then i followed a guide similar or maybe same
[Tutorial] Root, Unlock, Recovery and flashing a Custom ROM. Now i have stock 4.1.2 rooted and bootloader unlocked with s-off
I wanted to update my firmware but because i have a custom recovery t.w.r.p i cant get updates straight from ATT.
i want to update without losing any settings or having my files deleted. How do i do that?
I have been away from modding my phone so iam not exactly fresh on everything.

Regardless of the method to do a complete update to the KitKat will require the phone and all data on it to be wiped. There is no way to avoid this. I would suggest backing all your stuff up to a PC if you wish to do this.

So if i were to backup then what would i do next? just apply the any available 4.4.2 update through the recovery? and what about the radio and hboot etc

Tried downgrade from 4.3 to 4.1.2 - possible loss of IMEI

I think I might of lost my IMEI number.
I've got a S3 which I am planning on selling, but first I wanted to unlock it (which I found out afterwards wouldn't work for my network anyway, Orange).
I had a Galaxy S3 (GT-I9300) on android 4.3, i read that I could unlock it but I would have to downgrade to 4.1.2 first. So, following this guide (here) I got firmware 4.1.2 and installed that via odin as it says in the guide. Afterwards, I was stuck in a bootloop but managed to get out of it by going through recovery and doing a reset. After this it booted up fine.
After it has booted up, I tried putting my sim card in but it said 'Emergency Calls Only' which I thought was strange. I looked at the IMEI number and it starts 004999.
So I think I've lost it and now unable to use any sim card on it. Is this right?
Before anyone ask if I made a backup of anything, no I didn't. I didn't think it matter because I was using official network specific firmware. I was just following the guide.
What should I do now to get the IMEI back and a working phone?
There is the option in the notification bar for a system update, not sure if it works or not but should I do that?
EDIT: This doesn't work, just says 'unable to connect to network'
If not, what should I do next?
Thanks all.
Have you seen this thread?
This one is also solved my problem too. Use your phone for a while with that patched rom. And then search play store for a efs backup tool. Keep it on your sdcard so that you can patch/flash it after you downgraded your phone. Prolly thats gonna work
Thanks. I had seen that bit wasn't sure if it would work for me. The phone is locked to orange, and is on orange firmware. Would it be OK installing the BTU one?
Also for using twrp doesn't that require root? My phone isn't rooted.
If after doing this it works, would I be able to install the orange firmware again to get back to stock?
Also, do I need to do any sort of backup or anything first before this?
Flash I9300XXEMG4, this is 4.1.2 with EFS v2, so you wont get IMEI null/null or 0049...., It worked fine on mine i9300
