I've tried helium and didn't like it. I've been told not to use titanium when flashing certain custom roms and I've even gone into the play store and meticulously deleted all the old apps that I've downloaded on my profile only to have google not restore them on my LG G2. (they were restored on my nexus 7)
It's just kind of a headache. So I find that after I flash the stock gapps, I only d/l a few apps that I NEED. Is there any hope of a permanent solution?

I did a mild search and didn't find anything, so sorry if this is a repost.
I want to try new roms, but don't want to go through the headache of redownloading all the apps that I have, is there an easy way to back up my existing apps so I can flash a new rom and just "reload" my old apps?
Does Titanium backup do this? (i've never really used it)
Yes. Use titanium. But use it only to restore apps, never system settings

You can also use MyBackup Root (for both apps, data). The interface is very simplistic and straight to the point, if you don't want all the stuff packed into Titanium.
No dumb questions. Most roms will just auto restore your apps when you sign in with your gmail acct, but some do have the feature disabled so then I would recommend titanium backup. If your new to the root game I would definitely recommend the paid versions of root explorer, titanium backup, and ROM manager at the very least. With the paid version of titanium you can also run the market doctor to restore the market links for your apps if for some reason they do not show up I'm the market after you restore them. Good luck!
Awesome, thanks guys! I appreciate it.
Hi,
I have an SGS2 and am running KG2 UK/VOD firmware, and considering trying VillainRom. I've flashed other phones before, but this is my first go on android
Nearly all my apps are from either amazon marketplace or the android market. All my contacts are synced with google. Photos are backed up via google+ instant upload & also I've run kies to perform backups in the past. I have no significant local music/vids (I use spotify). My email is all based in gmail
I'm trying to figure out what I need to backup. I am assuming right now options are
- Don't bother, do full flash, after installing new rom initial setup will re-install all my market apps. optionally I can redownload from amazon (mostly free demos I'm not interested in). Loses SMS
- ROOT first, install a backup program do a backup, then flash & restore
Actually just thought - install Go-SMS, run SMS backup (and restore afterwards).
What else should I be considering?
If you are installing the no wipe version, all you have to do is flash. you will not lose any data or apps.
you may need to reroot.
If you are using a wipe version, you will need to reinstall everything from your back up.
use titanium back up
Hi - tried searching for this particular issue but no luck. I sent my i9100 away for repair but prior to that it was rooted. I didn't flash to any fancy firmware though - i just kept the stock one. I backed up my apps using titanium backup.
I have performed a restore of my apps using titanium backup but some apps like boat browser, dropbox, google+ etc force close repeatedly immediately after opening. I had the same firmware as before so I can't see what the problem could be?
Did you restore app data ? If you did, that is probably the reason. Don't do it for those/any apps you're having problems with. If you restored apps only, I'd do a clean install of these apps from Google Play rather than restoring them.

thanks for the reply. I'll do the clean install from google play.
Out of curiousity - why would the data cause these crashes?
I *think* (not absolutely positively certain) it's got something to do with the restore putting the data back into a different place to what the firmware is expecting/the 'symbolic' links to the data being messed up. So basically when you open the app & it goes to use the restored data, the system processes needed go 'nope' & you get a FC.
Not exactly a technical answer, I know But that's my rudimentary understanding of it. There are posts on here which explain it technically in more detail if you're interested enough to do a Google search to find them (I'm not, they are hard to find ).
I always do clean installs when I'm flashing a new rom or a new major version/revision of a rom & rarely have problems.

Is there a way to view or administer the apps that are backed up by Google. Typically when I flash a different rom google will begin installing the backed-up apps. However there usually is a handful of apps that get installed that I had uninstalled some time in the past. Is there a way to view the backup list and make changes to it?
Good evening everybody,
I have been starting to flash different ROMS, and what is the best way to restore data and apps? (titanium backup? Or something else?
It takes a while to re-download Everything from the Google play store.
I am on skydragon Rom with VZW.
I have titanium backup and also jrummy ultimate backup pro.
Thanks again for the info

Personally I think you can't go wrong with titanium. It's a lot easier with the pro version. But as far as restoring apps you can't beat it.

Cloud services, augmenting locally stored zips and APKs for me. Choosing apps like Nova and ChompSMS that allow a local settings backup are key to the ROM-hopper.
Between a custom Gapps package, TBO, and pulls from APKmirror and some zips, I get most of what I need. As far as the data portion, that's where cloud services really come in.; often all that is needed is a log-in and it's there.
I should say that I am a productivity user, not a gamer.
I Used Titanium backup pro and flashed a new ROM. So far so good. thanks again for all the info
