Hey all!
I'm new to theming and have been working on some designs, but I have a few questions!
1.) Buzz Launcher vs Themer vs Other, and why?
2.) I'm on a Galaxy S3 (Verizon).. What size do I use in Photoshop to create wallpapers for my themes? I've seen mixed answers..
I'm sure I have more technical questions I can't remember off the top of my head, but this should be a good start! Thanks ahead of time guys!

That's pretty subjective, my best advice would be to try them all and decide for yourself.
If you resolution is XxY, your wallpaper's resolution should be 2XxY if you want it to scroll correctly. Your phone has a resolution of 720x1280, so the wallpaper's will be 1440x1280… unless I flipped the axes.
Awesome, thank you!
I remember seeing a thread where two people were arguing back and forth about the correct size, and it turned out that one of the dimensions was for scrolling and the other was for non-scrolling. But for some reasons those numbers were still a little different than the ones you've stated. For example, I think one of the guys was arguing that the correct size was 1280x1280 due to scrolling. Can you explain why he might've said this? Also here's a couple more questions if anyone has a sec..
- Is the size for a scrolling wallpaper the same regardless of how many screens there are? (ex: 3 screens, 5 screens, etc.)? And is 1440x1280 correct?
- For non-scrolling, is 720x1280 correct for the GS3?
- Are Buzz Launcher and Themer the only two of their kind? or are there others?
Thanks again in advance!

1. He might have a device with a different resolution.
2. Yes, it's the same. The scrolling distance adapts to the number of screens.
3. Should be, yes, unless I got the wrong resolution.
4. I don't know. They're the only launchers with fully fledged installable themes that I know of.

I don't understand... Please someone explain to me...I've searched and searched and I haven't figured out why we have not or can not create Live Wallpaper for the HD2? I know that we would all love to have this.
Please someone shed some light as to why this is not yet a reality with all the talent that is on this site. Thank you.
didnt know what you meant at first, so i found this
http://android-developers.blogspot.com/2010/02/live-wallpapers.html
not really bothered by it to be honest.
i want my wallpaper to just be a wallpaper.
remember what happened when they had the genius idea of animated backgrounds? how long did it take people on average to get sick of being distracted by whatever floating image was in the background.
i even turn weather animations on.
dont get me wrong it would be nice, but for the amount of work and time needed to have a field of grass as my wallpaper that is correctly shaded in realtime lol...
also, if you like what the idea could do for you or others why dont you list some of the features you think are useful or things you would like to see in an app/mod.
maybe someone that can do it will see read it and think its a good idea too and make it
Battery killer is all I have to say. Yes it is some nice eye candy (I like the eye candy) but the amount of battery that it would suck down would be to much for me.
Not really a battery killer. The OS is the issue here. Its totally possible but lets worry about using Android on it first, so we dont have to worry for Starfield as a back ground (I love starfield on the Evo)
well the website that was provided in the second post is only for android... I am also eager to get my hands on one of these wallpapers for the HD2...
I have both HD2(My own with ATT) and EVO(from work)
EVO Live wallpaper is damn good. 'water' is very very slow animated wallpaper. I dont see much different in battery life. but again, I have to charge it every night to make sure its ready for work next day!!
btw, compared EVO with HD2 and my wife's iPhone4, EVO is WAAAAAYYY ahead. Too fast for mobile web browsing

Actually, it's a matter of the shell that is overlaid on Windows Mobile. Just like on your Windows desktop, the shell is on top of the operating system. Different shells offer different functionality. Sense does support Animated Wallpapers (beyond the animated weather wallpaper), however, if you go with something like Cookie's HomeTab, you will lose it.
I don't really know of any other shells that offer live wallpapers, but there are literally dozens of different shells for Windows Mobile. You might want to look at some of those and see if you can get this functionality.
I swear that I can remember there being a host of Metamorph themes that will morph SenseUI with dark Rosies and different types of batteries (yes, I know there are lots of circle battery flashes) and things.
I scum through the Hero themes and apps, and can't find much.
I scum thorugh the Eris themes and apps, and SWEAR I can remember more, months ago.
I am I confused? I feel like SOMEONE would have/did make a blue battery/highlight color flash, or a different Android guy when a no-picture-stored contact/caller is on the line, or a graphite/black battery, or clear notification bars.
I see that there are LOT of cyanogenmod themes, and that's super. But although I see an awesome orange xtrSense theme there, I am lost on where all the metamorph themes I remember seeing, went to.
I feel stupid almost, since I've been around computers for years, and spent LOTS of time on forums, and even helping people, and rooting friends' phones, etc etc etc.
I swore I remember seeing a HTC hero theme repository thread with like 100 different little themes and metamorphs. I can't even find that (assuming any of those would work).
Am I crazy? Confused? (feel free to slap sense into me if so)
Where are all the SenseUI metamorph themes? Do I need to try to learn how to make some?
Yessir
I've been wondering this too, I remember before I rooted seeing a picture of an Eris with a black rosie and all the grey turned black. Heck that was half the reason I rooted, but I never have found it lol. guess I got side tracked.
I've been thinking of trying to make some Themes for punk.kaos's froyo sense when it gets stable. I've figured out a little about theming android, (I'm still not that good and have never themed sense, so dont expect much.)
I'd LOVE to have a white and blue sense theme though, that'd be on point.
I have only made two themes for the eris. One I posted on here the other is not done, so I guess that technically 1 1/2 but who's counting, and I can tell you it is more tideous work then actual challenge. The reason for lack of themes is probably just a demand thing. Most people that have the eris have had it for awhile. So they either already have it how they like it or have moved onto another device. I think it would be great for those of us with the eris to help out with theming and developing. With all the hard work the developers put in to the roms the least us as the end user can do is make some themes for others to use and give a variety of option for roms to look. </rant>
I think that may come off harsher then it was meant to when I was typing this. Anyway, if you or anybody else on here needs help making themes, I would be more than happy to help in anyway I can just message me on here I check this place probably 50 times a day. I would love to help some people get on the theming bus and help make some new themes for us to choose from.

I dont think thats harsh at all, its just plain fair.
the handfull of devs here work so hard bringing us roms we never would dream of seeing on our phone, the least we can do -if we are able- is contribute a little time to editing some pictures. it makes all our phones have that many more options. course...lifes not fair
I would love to learn. Where do you suggest I start? I've already taken pieces from several different themes to make what I want. I would like to see a nice sense ui theme. It can be done, shadowrom has a theme that is as close to sense that I've seen yet. They got about everything but HTC Widgets and the real htc launcher. However the themer made an HTC launcher dock background and some blank icons that when using launcher pro is very nice because your icons don't show up on the dock like they normally would. What would it take to incorporate the real launcher into a theme?

Here are some of the metamorphs I think you were talking about. Really the only ones I could find that seem to work. I know there's more out there. Anyone else got anything?
Simple Black Lockscreen arch
Espresso Rosie!
Im tryint to figure out where to find the icons at. I want to change my folder icons blue. Any help would be appreciated
One of the reasons I bought my Vega for was that I could mess a bit with an Android device and learn about it without having to put my phone in peril (in the end I've been flashing ROMs on my phone with a daily frequence anyways, so it was more a good excuse than anything else ). I've considered the idea to build an Ubuntu theme for our devices: there are many icon packs available and as an Ubuntu user I'm familiar and keen on the look and feel.
I've seen some tutorials, but they seem to be quite old and perhaps in the meantime the process of building Android themes has become easier than in 2009.
Any ideas on the topic?
Thanks in advance!
I woke up one day last week and decided I wanted to change to look of my Vega.
Searched all over XDA and found plenty of icon packs, but most needed Bettercut etc, which didn't seem to work very well on the Vega. Other icon packs were PNGs, which firstly crashed my gallery app every time and secondly were also low res. I tried a few other apps but they all seem designed for small screens - the icons they create are very pixellated and small with no way to change.
I also wanted to change the icons in the app drawer, apparently the only way to do this is to reassign each icon within the APK of each app and reinstall.
I gave up in the end, I am flashing a new rom almost weekly and I don't fancy going through all that hassle every time.

Maybe try speaking to some people from here (Viewsonic G-Tablet forums):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=841
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=845
It may be helpful, as they have similar roms to us (software 'buttons' at the top of the screen), and have the same screen resolution too.
EDIT: I found this page specifically, which could help.

First off. I have searched all over the placed for these wallpapers. Ever since Virus's Kingdom ROM for the OG EVO I have used it as my background.
The wallpapers are attached. These are currently in 800x480 format and converted to our 960x540 screen. I did one, the My Water one by editing some smali and such. But, I can't remember which since it was a while ago.
Anyways, I have attached the one that does work without the white line (due to the resolution). It's the MyWater one below.
The others, still in 800x480, are attached in zip. Please someone smarter than me point me in the right direction to change the resolution of the others. Willing to donate big....
So will others, I guarantee it..
These have been on the 3d for a while http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1165563&highlight=my+water

Yea, read again please....The MY WATER one is the only one without a white bar going across the bottom of the screen after being ported. All others have the white bar do the resolution. Please answer my question or read carefully before commenting.
Thanks though for your attempt at helping.

Here's the fix:
I'm the one who originally was gonna rework all these. But what a freaking pain in the ass that was..(I pm'd you with the instructions).
Anyway, by chance, I noticed that the Rom I'm currently using (viperROM 1. 2) only had the dalvik cache heap size set at 32m, when past experience tells me that MANY more apps will actually work at 48m. So, I changed the build.prop. to 48m, and cleared dalvik cache in a reboot.
A side effect of this was that all these HERE :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15263089
work now, with no resizing necessary. The main ones, at the top of that thread, work as well, and those are the ones you really wanted.
So, just do the same thing, but I would totally uninstall the nonworking one's you have now. Forget all that resizing garbage. Let me know how it works out for you.

Has anyone in this forum been able to successfully theme or port aosp settings on a sense rom? I know its been done numerous times on ICS but do you guys know of any for 4.1 or 4+?
Or hell if the ICS version would work on sense 4 with or without a little bit of modding?
Not exactly sure where to start but I'm familiar with VTS and whatnot... Any help would be GREATLY appreciated

Also I have seen pictures of an inverted sense settings (white text on black) but the dev never posted like he said he was going to, anyone have that.
Let me know if you want it... I'm using it on rebelrom ... Sense 4+, 3.17
Of course I'll credit him for everything, as this was a lucky find on my part

I will make the bold assumtion that you are referring to me...
I did post, but only for ICS. It was an utter mess and I gave up on it for JB.
InflatedTitan PMed me and this is my reply, just in case somebody might want to take it from where I left it (basically goiung through all the sense apps that create dialog windows or find the xml where this is controlled (probably in un compilable com.htc.resources.apk or even worse (but unfortunately very likely with htc...) in various different locations).
Hi InflatedTitan
Well, as far as porting goes, I have not done it on sense 4 and I don't know what it takes.
As for the settings.apk, I successfully themed it to look as AOSPish as it gets. Only, there where so many issues as I had to change the color of the text from black to white, that many dialog windows which had a white background where messed up. I then spent some time to find the respective files, xmls that control these dialogs but actually never found them. In the end I settled for what I have now, AOSP style but based on sense.
The major problem is that we can't properly de- and recompile the com.htc.resources.apk, where most of the necessary changes have to be made. So the basic process was to check the settings.apk for references to that file and then change them to somewehre we can edit, like framework-res.apk. It takes a lot of time and some understanding how Android works to get this done properly. I then also pushed some files to com.htc where I had to. You know, htc's software is very very messy, there is no direct logic to most of it and they have so many redundancies it actually just makes you want to cry out loud No wonder all the sense versions so far where an utter bloat. Ahhh, just imagine another htc nexus...
I made some documentation here, but it's a bit of a mess.
It outlines all the things I changed (to keep track) and whether the changes actually did someting (green) or not.
Unless you have a lot of time on your hands, I would stay away from it. I am a perfectionist and I just felt it was not worth the effort. And that was quite some time ago, when the One X still was still a relatively new device...
