[Q] help! I cant access MTP (i9300) - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Im searching this problem for almost 2 days and I cant find the answer. So I guess posting it on this forum could help me.
I rooted my gs3 a week ago and MTP is working fine, i can transfer files back and forth until i decided to flash beanstalk 4.4.2
. When I plug in my usb on the computer s3 says "connected as media device" but i cant see it in the computer. I tried the
Following
1.changing the usb cable(I have 4, samething happened)
2.changing the usb port
3.USB debugging on and off
4.uninstall and Install samsung kies and samsung drivers
5.i also uninstall and update the drivers in the device manager
All of them fails for me and i see on the device manager "Google nexus ADB interface" or "Galaxy nexus ADB interface" something
Like that. So I decided to restore my nandroid backup via cwm recovery to hopefully fix this problem but the only thing I notice is
In the device manager I see samsung galaxy interface other than that nothing changed. I didnt backup my IMEI/EFS folder does it affecting this? and also it should be backed up by cwm right? Please Help me..
(I am new to this so please bare with me)

IMEI / EFS shouldn't cause your issue in any way, but clockworkmod doesn't, at least last time I used it, automatically backup efs. One of the reasons I've stuck with TWRP.

USB Device not recognized-Used to work fine??

Searched and did not find this in the Vibrant forum.
My Vibrant suddenly will not mount. I have it set to MASS STORAGE as it always has been, and now it won't bring up the USB notification on the phone and I get a USB Device not recognized error in Windows XP and Windows 7.
The phone is NOT rooted. I flashed JI2 with ODIN. I know it worked after that because I copied back my music movies and games back to the Vibrant from pc's running XP and 7.
Any ideas?
I had that happen to me, too, after I had soft-bricked my phone and then tried to use Odin to recover. I ended up getting the phone back through Clockwork Recovery, but by then it had stopped being recognized in Windows. Try re-installing the drivers (available here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=728929). That fixed the problem for me.
Tried those, don't work for me. Not sure what the heck is going on. Finally get the phone working nicely with the JI2 update and now this...sheesh.
Any other suggestions?? I confirmed that it's not a driver issue, I tried my coworkers vibrant on my PC and his and it mounts fine. When I connect mine, same old error. I even did a factory reset, same results.
I have the exact same problem.. my vibrant soft bricked, so I reflashed stock rom with ODIN and it seemed to be fine.. then after a while it just stopped being recognized on my computer. Tried both on mine and my husband's. It's not the drivers, I've installed and reinstalled. There doesn't seem to be any fix for this??
sorry to bump an old thread but was there ever a solution for this?
Same happend to me today . I nandroid back to a point it was working and did not help . I read somewhere that formatting the drives help some but im not sure I want to lose all my **** .

I don't know if it's the drivers. I think it has something to do with Odin. I softbricked my vibrant twice and had to use Eugene's Froyo that won't brick then back to 2.1 and finally a custom rom. I think somewhere in there something happened...
I havent used odin lately . It was working fine then it just stoped working . I got the drives to show up but it window say "One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it" .
Couple of things you can try:
1) Try setting the USB mode to Samsung Kies. Somehow, mass storage never worked for me, but Kies mode works just fine.
2) Try installing ES File Explorer from the market. With that you can get into a home network while on WiFi, thus allowing you to transfer data between your computer and phone using your WiFi network, thereby eliminating the need for cables.
So far I've done a few things and i still get "USB device not recognized" .
Here's what I've done .
1) reinstalled drivers
2) formatted internal and external
3) restored to a previous nandroid

Is it recognized in any other computer ?

Mine is not recognized by any computer, by odin or kies at all. This happened after I flashed a rom using odin fixing a soft brick. I don't know if it is a hardware problem or not, I have flashed to different roms using rom manager and usb is still not being recognized.

S3 Bricked [Soft?]

Hello all, I have a GS3 international GT-I9300
I'll try to go through the story as fast as I can and give as much detail so you guys can understand how I got here.
Bought the phone unlocked, I was stock, I rooted and then I decided to install a new ROM. I went with Resurrection Remix, it was working great. I did this on a desktop back home. They released a new update to RR so I did a OTA update with "Update Me" apparently the thing flashed but it didn't, the phone still worked but NFC wasn't working as well as having lost root access and some other stuff wasn't working correctly, but I lived with it.
I moved to Florida (home is in NY) and I have a laptop with me, for some reason my laptop used to be able to transfer files to my S3, but it wasn't doing it any more after a while. So it would just charge it. I was in a hotel room last week trying to tether via USB but the PC wasnt having it, it could not locate the phone. This week I moved to a different hotel with internet and decided I would flash stock on my S3 to get rid of all these bugs and get root again, I tried flashing stock through recovery and it wasn't going, so I tried flashing RR again (this time downloaded from the site RR site) and it worked. Still no USB connection but I had root back. I looked around my PC and apparently the Samsung drives are not installing or something on my PC. I installed Kies, but nothing, I tried a stand alone driver install and nothing, so I just gave up and bought Mobile Odin pro from Gplay to try to flash again.
Mobile Odin for some reason (I blame it on myself) wasn't finding/flashing stock so again I decided to try and flash RR and see what would happen. It flashed RR and turned on fine. Then I just decided to look for an NFC fix on XDA. Once I found my NFC fix (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=32029713&postcount=8367) I decided to just copy the files to the system folder, NFC still not working, rebooted and NFC still no working, so I figured I would try to flash the fix through mobile odin seeing as how I can't get my PC to pick up on the USB. I tried flashing but MO just kept bouncing it back and re-booting into RR. Tried again and no flash. So I decided to again try and flash stock. I tried going into Recovery, the phone shut off like it always does, came back on but stayed in the Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 logo and would not move. I shut it off again, tried turning it on again and still stuck on the galaxy logo. Now, if I leave the phone off and plug in the USB, it won't show the battery charging image, it will actually turn straight onto the galaxy logo again and stay there. I can get the phone into download mode, but like I said my pc won't recognize the drivers.
Now, here are my questions:
What happened?
Can this be fixed?
Am I an idiot?
If I can get the drivers installed on another PC as well as Odin (1.85), will the new PC "see" the S3 or are the drivers on the phone deleted as well? (if that sort of thing can happen, idk.)
I'm going to see if I can borrow a buddy's PC and download the drivers as well as odin to try and bring my S3 back to life, I just want to know, what happens if I can't get the other PC to pick it up ether because the drivers on the phone are deleted (if that's a thing) or what I can expect if it is connected.
What are the steps or guides to follow here? I just got it into Download mode and it says on the top of the screen:
ODIN MODE
Product name: GT-I9300
Custom Binary Download: Yes (2 counts)
Current Binary: Custom
System Status: Custom
sorry , i am sometime getting headache reading long english text so i just briefly look over.
your PC doesn't recognize your S3 ? is that correct ? hmmm , is it possible that your PC (Microsoft Windows I assume?) system is damaged due to something like virus or some reasons ? i have encountered that kinda problem before and be OK after i reinstalled the system.
If it's a soft brick, then it can defiantly be fixed. You might, however, lose your data along the process.
Be glad it's not hard bricked
It happened to me many times, USB error "unknown device" connected. Only fix for it was reinstalling Windows so better if you can use different PC or laptop. Install Kies and other USB drivers. Restart computer, download and run Odin v 3.0x. Flash your phone.
If this doesn't work then maybe your phone have a problem with USB port?

Thanks for the replies guys. I'll try to fix tit today, I didn't get a chance to do it last night. If anything I'll update you guys with what's going on.
Like I was saying, I'll try using a different PC to fix it. Now, if I can't get Odin to recognize the phone, what would be the next step?

[Q] S3 Stuck on samsung logo after attempted update to 4.3

I have an unrooted Samsung S3, i just received yesterday the notification of the jelly bean 4.3 update (originally ran on 4.1.2) so i went for it OTA via wifi, long story short, after download was finished and the phone automatically rebooted itself, it got stuck on samsung logo, i have waited for hours beside it (since i have modest experience about this) and finally nothing happened, so i started researching the issue, i have tried wipe data/factory resetting (didn't work) along with wipe cache partition, and no use, i have tried kies emergency firmware upgrade and initialization, but it can't see the phone in Download mode, i tried flashing the phone with Odin307 but it also cannot see my phone in Download mode, and i have heard that if the phones usb debugging was active, the phone would be seen, but i never used it, my phone was stock all the way, please help me get my phone working again.
Make sure kies is completely shut down and retry. You could also try reinstalling driver's and Odin and different USB lead or different PC/laptop
please check in device manager if you can see your device , try reinstalling the device drivers, try different cable or it could be charging port .. Good luck ..

actually i have done all of that, i ran odin while kies was completely shut down (killed all kies from task manager) and downloaded latest drivers from samsung and installed them, tried 3 different wires on 2 different PCS, still my phone cannot be seen inside odin or kies
that is why i'm frustrated
is it possible to use the option "apply update from external storage" from system recovery menu? since my phone cannot be seen by any software, and if possible to use that option, what are the files that i should add to my MicroSD Card? and from where should i download them?
In download mode is the product name blank?

before the update, the charging port worked just fine, the phone was recognized in windows in device manager, and inside KIES, now both of them can't see it, so how could it be faulty?
and for the record guys, i'm not lazy, i never post a thread until i have exhausted all other researching methods

no its not, showing GT-I9300
In that case try a different pc, lead, version of odin. Either your problem is with the pc (most common) or your bootloader is corrupt, which is very unusual and difficult to fix.

Try ODIN v1.85. It always worked fine for me, other versions don't.
Here is a compatibility list for what is worth it.

Thank you so much for your suggestions, but actually none of the above, i have done the fix that i was asking about (recovering from external card), its a twisted fix but it worked for eventually, i have added the Android 4.3 file (1.43 GB) to my Micro SD Card, and started recovery mode, and went for that option, the device started reading it, and then restarted itself but still stuck on samsung logo, but what i have noticed is that this time when i hooked up my phone to pc, the sweet sound of discovering my phone played, so i know that now i could use odin or even kies, so i went for odin, it recognized the phone, flashed it with the version i downloaded, and it worked. what a relieve
thanks to all of you guys for your help, i hope that this thread would help someone else who hit a dead end.

[Q] Root when phone is not detected

Hello everyone, I could not find a good title for my issue but I will try to explain as well as I can. I own a GT-I9300 (International), but since last official Samsung's firmware update(Jelly Bean 4.3) I am not able to get my phone recognized by my computer. Phone is connected and it charges, but neither Windows or Ubuntu recognizes it as a portable device. I am concerned about UMS is not available on device, but my phone it does not even get detected! I also own a Galaxy SII (4.1.2) and it does get detected by my PC. I think that flashing a custom ROM could solve the problem, since it appeared when I updated official firmware, but the thing is that I cannot root my phone! Tried ODIN but since my phone does not get detected, ODIN does not do its job. I also tried rooting with framaroot and towelroot, but no success: first one says "Failed , try another exploit" but there is only one. And the last one says my phone is not currently supported, even if I change modstrings.
So here is my question: how do I root my phone? I don't know what else I could try. I have already reinstalled Kies and Samsung USB drivers but still not working. Also hard-resetted but no luck.
Hope you guys can help me out because this is really getting on my nerves
Thanks in advance!

The thing is that my phone is the only one that do not get detected every single time I connect it. I have already connected one GT-I9100 and GT-S6790L and both get detected. I already tried on 3 different Virtual Machines with Windows XP, Ubuntu, Windows 8.1 but no luck.
As I said in the first post, I think it's a firmware problem since it appeared when I did the official update, which was this one:
Model GT-I9300
Model name GALAXY S III
Country Argentina
Version Android 4.3

I can see your frustration Now a few things technically it is a misconception that you need root to flash a custom rom you can actually flash a custom recovery with Odin full wipe and then flash a custom rom from custom recovery (only thing is you will lose all your data because you need root to back up your data)
Now I know the above statement is not very helpful because as you said Odin doesn't detect it (but I thought I would mention it anyway )
The reason framaroot and towelroot, didn't work is because at the moment the only way to root S3 is with Odin.:crying:
You may have tried this but I will mention it anyway first uninstal Kies and all Samsung drivers from your computer ( kies can interfere with Odin) Then try installing these drivers here >> http://developer.samsung.com/techni...Lhp1GqlWRy92Q60CX6PP1mF!80806326?v=T000000117 << If you have tried this then sorry.
Also when you connect the phone go to Device manager in Windows and try to look for your device ( it may say unkown device) it should have a warning triangle right click on it select update driver software and then select browse from my computer and point to the drivers that you have downloaded see if that works.
Another thing to note is if you are using Windows 8 you need to disable Driver signature in start up options ( Google it) for Windows to recognize the drivers.

I already tried uninstalling Kies and Samsung drivers. Also I tried looking for device on Device Manager but it does not appear when I plugin my S3, but it does appear when I connect other devices like S2 or Galaxy Fame Lite. They appear as portable devices.
I'm using Windows 7 on my PC and have already tried with different OS over Virtual Machines and still doesn't work.
And thanks for that note, didn't know there was possible to flash a Custom Recovery without root, but I can't since ODIN doesn't detect device :crying:
Then it looks like you are running out of options I would use another computer not Virtual Machines
Okay I'll give it a try but as I said before, looks like an firmware issue, not computer's. Why would my computer detects two another Samsung devices but not mine (which used to work until last update)
Me, too!
I'm having a similar problem. Last week my GS3 stopped working, and I bought another one from Ebay with a cracked screen and swapped out motherboards. The phone seems to work as well as a stock Verizon phone on Jellybean would, but I can't get my Linux, Win 8, or Win XP computers to even recognize that it's attached. Different cables, each and every one of the USB ports, not even a blip. Device Manager in Windows doesn't even see it, and yes I got the developer options unlocked and have enabled USB debugging.
I've got the Samsung drivers installed, and tried to install the CWM device drivers from the SAMSUNG GALAXY S3 TOOLKIT V9, but there was an error and that didn't work, either.
USB connection issues are usually due to Windows conflicts, driver problems or the lead itself. If all these have been excluded then you have either a firmware issue in the bootloader, which is very uncommon, or a hardware problem. The usb port is easily worn/damaged/dirty also the motherboard might be the cause.
There is no silver bullet to cure, test each possible thoroughly.

I'm 100 percent sure that it is not due a Windows issue, I have already test every option. I have not considered the usb port to be damaged or worn, which could be possible but phone charges every time I connect it to computer. It just does not get detected as a device. But in order to assume it is a motherboard issue I will have to put away my feeling that the problem is caused by last OTA official update, since this problem started there.
If it is a firmware update issue, is it any option to flash another ROM?

As I said on previous posts, I have already installed and reinstalled Samsung USB drivers and made a factory reset -one from config. option and another one from Android stock recovery 3e (since I cannot install any advanced recovery -or even root it- to flash a custom rom). Doing those factory reset did not downgrade my last firmware update (when all my problems started).
I also said on previous posts that I tried towelroot and framaroot with no success. As tallman43 says, seems like international version of S3 does not support those kind of one-click to root apps.
-----------------------------------------------------
So far the only options available (if my theory about latest firmware update is the problematic one) are:
● downgrade firmware: [Q] How? Odin is not working since my phone does not get detected;
● root my phone in order to install an advanced recovery and flash a new ROM: [Q] Any way of rooting phone without computer (apart from towelroot or framaroot because I have tried and do not work for me)? I read one XDA post from 2 years ago to root S3 via console apk but latest comments assumes that method stopped working.
● install an advanced recovery without odin or root: [Q] How?
● fix USB firmware issue: [Q] I have completely no idea how to do it. (Already played with *#7284# and *#0808# but did not get my phone detected)
Please I need help, this is really irritating me and I am running out of ideas

I guess I have found out what the problem was. It was not firmware (as I thought). It was the micro USB port (as boomboomer said) which seems to not be firmly attached to the PCB. AC charging just seems to work okay, but not USB connections. I managed to figure it out by forcing the USB in a specific position to get it detected for 5 seconds, but then it disappeared.
Yeah, it was not as complex as I thought! I will try to replace that micro USB port as soon as possible, thanks everyone for your help!

Samsung Galaxy Ace GT-S5830: Unknown USB Device (Device Failed Enumeration)

Hello, I am sorry if this post has already been made somewhere but I still can't find the answer for fixing the problem suggested in the title.
So I have a GT-S5830 Galaxy Ace and decided to install CyanogenMod 7 with CWM. The flashing of the phone was a success but I came across a bug (or problem?) of screen orienteering and I couldn't find that answer. Right after this, I then decide to restore back to stock ROM. However, I came across a problem when connecting the device (in Download Mode) to my PC; it stated Unknown USB Device (Device Failed Enumeration) in Device Manager.
Following Procedures I have done:
- USB Debugging enabled on phone
- Samsung USB Driver installed
- All drivers on PC up-to-date
I am also following a guide to restore back to ROM using Odin Multi Downloader, but it does not recognize the phone in ID:COM. The bleep on the PC can be heard but it only recognizes when the phone is in normal mode; in Download Mode it shows Unknown USB Device (Device Failed Enumeration). Please help as I am giving this phone to my sibling.
Thank you. (I think I may have posted this on the wrong section of the forum, sorry)

I'm having the same error as well. I am running on stock firmware 2.2.1 and unrooted still when I enter Download mode (Power-VolDown-Home) my PC says USB not recognized. I'm trying to play some combinations and I've been into RAMDUMP, Emergency DLOAD mode and ODIN can detect it, but can't flash. When I press Power-VolUp-VolDown it Says LK (lucky kernel) version Jan 2011.
Tried updating via Kies but it says Can't update firmware. Unknown error occured. This is crap! I can't go on to 2.3.6
I have exactly the same issue. :crying:
Does anybody has a solution for this?
please help
