So last week I bought an unlocked optimus g from amazon, the At&t e 970 model. At the time I received the cell phone, I didn`t have a sim card to test with it, so I just started doing the usual procedures to install custom roms, like rooting unlocking the bootloader etc. I`ve done that, made a complete wipe, and got stuck with a phone with no rom and I couldn`t find the custom rom I had transfered to the internal Sd. After I managed to transfer the custom rom to my external SD, I flashed it with clocworkmod. The phone seemed to be working well in all aspects, but when I finally got my hands on a sim card, the phone was not recognizing it. I thought it could be the rom I have, so I tried different custom roms, and ended up flashing the stock JB rom from At&t. That did not solve the problem either, I thought it could be the sim card that was causing the problems, but after trying a friend`s sim card that is working, the phone still had the same problem with not detecting the sim card. Now my question is, could I`ve possibly screwed the cell phone`s radio/firmware because of all the custom roms I`ve installed, and if so where can I find the original JB image, as i can`t find these anywhere. I`m pretty sure my EFs partitions are OK, as I can retrieve the IMEI from the cellphone through the dialer. I`m sorry if this information is available elsewhere, but I`ve been looking around and haven`t found everything I need.|
Thanks

Ye did not looketh hardeth enougheth, seek and ye shall find. Jokes aside, I screwed up my radio by flashing the E977 radio, had the same issue as you. I tried some of the radios on that link and managed to get the sim recognized, problem is my phone worked flawlessly with the 1900 band but had trouble with the 850 band(got no signal or very weak signal). Read through the thread, my issue was mencioned there and someone asked me to test something to get the 850 band working again(thing is i gave my phone to my mom and she uses the 1900 band so i couldn't test).

Thanks for the reply first of all. I`ve followed your advice and tried different radios, but with no luck, I still get the no sim card inserted icon on the notification bar. I`m worried this may be a hardware related problem, maybe something wrong with the motherboard. I want to know for sure that it is a hardware problem, so I can restore the phone to factory specs and return it to amazon. Could this be a firmware related issue? I don`t know what else could be causing this.

Seems like a hardware issue then since any of those radios should have worked. Follow the guide to return to stock.

I am following the procedure to install back to stock, I have LGNPST installed, but when I connect the phone in download mode, my computer does not recognize the phone, and therefore nothing shows up in LGNPST. I have tried fixing the drivers automatically, but windows fails to do so, and I have also tried to update it manually, with no luck. whenever I connect the device in download mode, it shows that there is driver problem. Is there another way to flash the .bin image?

I have that issue with my laptop with win 7, try another pc, preferably one with xp, that worked for me.

I have a 3125 that I acquired in a semi-bricked state. Bought it for spare parts, but think that maybe I can get it working. It will not boot to WM mode. Boots to bootloader with buttons held at power-on, which reports IPL 4.01.0001 and SPL 4.01.0000.
It recognizes the USB and the update tool recognizes it. But when the update starts, it never gets past 0% on the phone and the update tool eventually errors out and reports I need a newer update tool.
If I put in a µSD with the update file, it goes to the white screen briefly, saying it is checking the SD card, then goes back to tri-color.
I have tried both methods with the original Cingular ROM and the updated one. The µSD is properly recognized by a working phone with bootloader 2.04 (instructs me to press the key to perform the update, though I have not done so).
I have seen here that you must flash via µSD using only an official ROM, which I am doing, but I think that perhaps I don't have the correct official ROM to match this bootloader.
I do not know the history of the phone, so don't know how it came to have bootloader 4.01 or if the bricking happened at that time or later.
This is similar to, but not quite the same as, other threads I have seen where phones bricked after a bad load of WM6 and for which I have not seen a resolution. AFAIK, this was taken out of service before the WM6 ROM was cooked, but an attempt may have been made to load just about anything out there.
At this point, I don't really care what version of ROM gets in there, because I can use the informtation here to put what I want in once I can get to WM5. So, any light on what ROM I should try?
Anybody?
Well, my other 3125 is acting up (randomly resets itself) and now I'd REALLY like to get this one working. Anybody have a clue as to what I can try?
randomly reboots usually means that your battery door is loose. You ever get that "extra" one working?
rom
I have a 3125 with the same ipl/spl and have loaded several roms with no problem.
The link is for the official htc/cingular release. Try via ruu (with sd card removed) first, then if it does not work try the sd method. gl

I have tried both official ROMs with the same results both via PC and via µSD. What is the source of that IPL/SPL? (What ROM image loads it)? I suspect that if I can get THAT ROM image, then I can ressurect the phone. Maybe not and it really is bricked and the error message isn't really accurate.
Yours likely is SuperCID, so you can load anything, where this one appears to not be.
For the one who suggested the problem is the door: unfortunately not. A new door was one thing I did get from the bricked phone. Might be the actual door switch, though. I could try disabling it. Anybody know if its NO or NC?
rom
I will try to find out which rom loaded the ipl/spl, the only unlocking done on the phone is before I change a rom, I run the surrealnetworks cab. (app unlock)
will let you know what I find out reference the ipl/spl
the other thing you might want to try, is download all of the roms and run them, they are listed int he first sticky.

No, and I've seen even more folks with phones in this condition after a bad WM6 load and still no solution.
My best guess right now is that whatever crashes the system during a load somehow corrupts the boot loader and we are therefore SOL.
I've solved my random resetting problem by acquiring yet another phone with a bad keypad and swapping out my old keypad into it. So my need is no longer critical, but I'd still love to find a solution.

That's just what I had in mind already. Hope to find some nice and cheap Startrek on Ebay or something.
Try this Full ROM:

I have the same IPL/SPL version as yours. I always use this FULL ROM to flash my cell phone when I had problem with my customized ROM.

After thousands words, hundreds attempts I'm giving up and bringing up this discussion on this forum..I really hope your experience and deep knowledge of subject finally will help me..I live overseas and use to order HTC HD2 T-mobile for my friends and some times just for sale..It was my 7-th T-mobile HTC HD2 when I got problem with flashing custom ROM...I installed HSPL 2.08 and started to flash my usual custom ROM via USB for T-mobile 1024,I took out sim card and memory stick before flashing..When I finished I did a soft reset and got frozen STICK TOGETHER screen...Phone just stuck...Forgot to say that before flashing I format device with Task 29..So I format it again and flash one more time, process itself was successful , but again I got STICK TOGETHER and that's it...I decided to flash another radio, CORRECT one (50) special fot T-mobile 1024, after several updates error phone just died..I got a brick, I couldn't even go to bootloader mode..I reanimate device with JTAG, and tried almost all official ROMs, I flashed them via usb, using memory card..Sometimes during flashing it stopes and I have to reboot, sometimes i got a sign on screen that update is completed, but when I turn device on nothing happened..I tried MTTY method, didn't help...I don't really know what to do now..May be I missed something important but as I said I'm not a noob already, and have red tonnes of information regarding flashing ROMS... Any ideas would be highly appreciated, i still hope that is just software problem not hardware, otherwise I can just throw it away...thanks for reading this story

Yeah, you either need a new motherboard or use JTAG to reflash the bootloader..

Hello guys. I bought a used dell streak which worked before I flashed streakdroid 2.4.4. I flashed the amss and dsp1 and everything matches when I check the phone information. I tried searching for mobile networks and AT&T appears but when I select it, it says "unable to connect to network please try again later" or "unable to register". Whats confusing is that I get a voicemail notification letting me know I have voicemail but when I click on it, I get "mobile network unavailable"
I rarely ask questions because when I'm stuck on something it is usually a simple fix. I've flashed every custom rom and matching baseband on the front page of the android development section and the Official PKG (351, 353, 206). I've done multiple system wipes etc. Im not sure what else I need to do. I've never worked on a phone for more than 4 hours and Im currently on my 11th on this damn dell streak
So is there a way to find out what region this dell streak came from to make this process easier, I dont want to have to try flashing every single update.pkg and baseband.
Or is there a general solution to this issue hidden in the archives of the internet?
Im soooo confused so any help would be greatly appreciated

Do a cache wipe
dalvik cache wipe,
"DELL" factory reset
Re-Flash gs244, then straight away do the first 3 steps again.
This time, flash without the simcard inserted.
When it first boots up after the factory reset, turn it off, put your sim in and power on.
I had the same prob as you with a uk network sim, after doing the above, it worked fine, im pretty sure it will sort your issue.

I have tried this step 3 times to no avail. When I go into settings>Wireless & Network Settings>Mobile Networks >Network Operators then select Search Networks two networks appear related to my phone company. When I select one option it says
Your sim will not register to this network
The second options gives me this response
Unable to connect to the network at this time. Please try again later.
Isnt the error code for a bad radio blinking lights? So why am I getting this particular error code.....
Is there a deeper menu within the dell streak to access more radio settings?
Is there a way to find out what region this phone is from so I can flash the original update.pkg?
Will the packers win the superbowl.......
Thanks for the help so far, this seems to be a common problem. I searched through several pages of Google, I even resorted to using bing and yahoo but I haven't found one consistent solution. Lets make one guys.
Also after dell factory reset I get this error Default NV checked #2 which doesnt allow me to go straight into the update.zip streakdroid menu then it resets the phone.
Do yourself a favor and don't install GingerStreak. Development has essentially stalled on that ROM, leaving it in a very buggy state compared to other ROMs. I recommend DSC, but with the GKernel that's available in Android Development instead of the kernel that comes with the ROM. The combination has been rock solid stable on my device, without any screens of death or problems with WiFi.
Ive flashed every single update.pkg from this list and have my Dell Streak 5 currently on 1.6 At&t retail 106 rom
http://mirror2.streakdroid.com/manii/
None of the packages work. On the Rodgers I would get a
Emergency Calls only status
Other than that I just have 4 bars with an x over them
I even erased all user data via fastboot
Ive used QDL at least 8 times
Does anyone else have any suggestions?
Is there a key code via fastboot menu to get further into the mobile network settings?
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Does your Streak still boot after using fastboot -erase? That's a big no-no. Usually results in a brick that only can be cured by disassembling the Streak and flashing an image of the internal MicroSD onto the card.
I am assuming that you flashed the recovery for the ROM you wanted to put on the Streak before trying to flash the ROM? You likely will have to search for some ancient posts, but if flashing the desired ROM's recovery image and then flashing the ROM doesn't work, you have to prepare the Streak to accept newer ROMs. Those ancient posts I mentioned detail the method to get units like yours to run newer versions of Android.

I know fastboot erase is a bad idea but at this point not having a mobile signal makes this device useless to me anyways. I did that twice actually.
I am currently running official rom update package 360 or Android 2.2.2 the latest from retail. I am still having the same issue.
I have spend a good portion of my day for the past 4 days reading archives of discussions both here and on madaco. No on seems to have a consistent solution to this problem. Ive read that sticking a business card under the battery works, the order of flashing should fix it, I mean the solutions are all over the place and I tried all of them but I still have the same problems.
I haven't read every single Q&A post but I have read almost everything under the Dell Streak 5 XDA board pertaining to this issue. I've also flashed every single available update package with match recovery and baseband with no results.
I feel like I've failed at this project and I am never going to get the time or the effort I put into this device back unless I can get it to work so this is just beyond frustrating.
Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Have you tried using a different sim card? Every now and then there's a sim that wont work on it but will work on a different device.

Sorry your still having this issue.
Ive googled and found nothing consistent apart from the obvious that already been mentioned.
Daft question i know but, are you absolutley 100% certain that this phone has not been blocked by your network via IMEI?
Sounds daft i know but people using phone / Tablets are reporting on consisten problems with networks and IMEI.
I would not attempt QDL anymore, if it didnt fix it the first time then that wont help your cause.
I think going back to ground zero is the place to sart, can you gain access to internal memory card, mine i can, i cut away the piece of plastic in the guide to allow easy access, i replaced the internal 2gig card with an 8gig class 10, just to note, the 2gig card was shot and was nothing more than a standard generic unbranded card, i do still have it sat around.
That would be my next step, wipe the phone, stick a diff card in and start again with STOCK 360 and matching recovery, i agree with the quote of avoiding gs, too damn buggy and problematic.
Let me know how youre getting on with it.

I ended up just liquidating the phone and cutting my losses. I dont think it was blocked from the network because I tried several SIM cards from different networks. For all I know it it could have been a bent SIM connection or something wacky. I am leaning towards the idea of it being hardware related but I gave it my best shot
Friends, I am also in the same state now. I bought the dell streak from one of our members, and it worked for few weeks. After that, I am getting that signal bar with X mark on it. I have tried all the options, but of no luck.
I spent almost my 6 months savings on this phone and it's really making me sleepless. Request your kind suggestions to address this.
hi
i had same problem about a month ago, i just kept restarting phoning, pulling battery out and i gave up, then after leaving it for a couple of hours it was working......
^^ Thanks friend for your reply. I have been doing the same, doing the factory resetting and trying the various options. But, of no luck.
Any concrete solution for this problem? I appreciate all your inputs.
What I would suggest for all of you is to go back to Froyo by flashing stock Dell update packages for your respective regions and see if you regain signal

If you flashed a stock Froyo ROM for YOUR SPECIFIC region, did a factory reset and still can't get a signal then your problem is hardware related...

^^ Yeah, that's my big worry!! It seems to be a hardware related. I got this phone from one of the our members, and it has already having some hw issues like the buttons are gone inside, right side bezel is very loose, and all (unfortunately, the seller has not mentioned all these issues in his post)
Can the dell warranty applies internationally?

Hi All,
I thought I’d share this as I’ve been pulling my hair out with trying to find answers to this, and sending it to old Sammy was the next option.
After trying everything on every forum, trying the QPST method, trying to use someone else's efs folder (which changed the serial as well) and every other complicated as hell method everyone had suggested, nothing worked expect his which I’ve not found mentioned anywhere as a solution to this (or any other) problem
In the Samsung Kies application under "Tools" there is "Firmware Upgrade and Initialisation,"
With your device unplugged (it will say not available for this model if its plugged in, don't plug it in until it tells you to when in download mode) select this and run the what it tells you to do,
After this is finished you will have a completely fresh install of the latest officially released firmware (for your original build eg. carrier branded) with original serial number and imei number
It’s really silly how simple this is yet has not been mentioned or attempted by anyone else, or if it has, not mentioned by anyone else.
I crap you not…
Thanks,
[edit:] just as a note, I got into this problem by not backing up the efs, the world would be a much nicer place if everyone just backed up their efs
This has been posted before and does not work in many cases .
Although the method can be useful to restore to original firmware .

Yes, flashing a stock rom will sometimes fix the problem of the efs folder not being mounted or read. It won't fix a corrupt partition or damaged files.
The stock rom you flashed didn't contain any efs data so it isn't any substitute for a backup, you were very lucky it worked.
To my tests this work only when efs is completely empty while upgrade if not it doesn't work

Same problem
hello guys,
Well I'm to tell the story of how my aunt damaged apparently her phone
At first the phone is a samsung galaxy S3 from movistar (locked), and she bought a freaking iphone 5 to give the S3 to his husband and there it starts the problem he's in another company so she goes to a store to unlock the phone, the guys on the store supposedly unlocked the phone. So when she arrives home, she puts the sim into the phone and SORPRISE it says emergency calls only and not registered in network. After a week she calls me and hands me over the phone.
My surprise was when I put it in recovery mode, it says flash count 3, and then i did all these terrible things with thephone.
1) Flash it to a stock movistar rom 4.1.2.
2) Sorprise the IMEI sayd null.
3) Searching in the web, found the ariza patch, and I patched it without saving the efs (big mistake).
4) The phone imei's became 0049.
5) So I flash it back to the rom they put in the store and the imei went back I make sure it was the one on the back of the phone.
6) I still stuck in the emergency call not registered in the network thing.
7) Now I rooted the phone erased the whole content of the efs directory (this time with a back up).
8) Did the tutorial thing with samsung kies and I'm back with the movistar rom with the 0049 IMEI.
I don't what to do at this point besides going to samsung and send it to repair I really hope they can fix it at a low price.
Sorry for my english, I'm trying to improve it.
Best Regards

Galaxy S3(GT-I9300) having the same problem! HELP HELP HEEEELP PLEASE!!
Very unfortunately. this didn't solve my problem, the phone's Serial number is still that auto generated junk, and the EMEI is 00499901640000 as before. I had 4.1.2 on my S3 and Kies has updated it to 4.3 without resolving the issue!
can anyone give an idea on how to surely resolve this issue please. its about 3 months now ever since my phone got screwed up!
Pay for a repair
Perfect
I cannot believe this worked, but it did.
I messed up somehow by trying to flash the wrong cwm.tar file (for i9305) I needed i9300 of course and odin stopped halfway and got stuck, i then pulled the cable out and everything got very messy,.. i kept getting lots of errors etc. i somehow managed to install an old cm11 rom which worked lovely. BUT I had no baseband, no imei, no network, no number, nothing, #*06# or whatever it is, wouldn't work. nothing.
I then started to figure out how the efs filesystem worked, then foundout kies has an emergency thing where i guess they look into there database what your imei was when the phone was built. this would not work because I was using a custom rom (i think) but then I stumbled upon this post. thank goodness!!!!!
It's just restarted and internet, signal, imei is back, baseband version is back. all in order.
however, i think i was also very lucky, but for those of you who are in the position i was in, but this doesn't work, I do think there are ways to get an old efs going again and modify it to your "should be" imei,
if anyone needs an IMEI, I can give you one from a phone i had stolen in vietnam, (not sure its even legal to give it out but whatever)
thank you

I thought I’d share this as I’ve been pulling my hair out with trying to find answers to this, and sending it to old Sammy was the next option.

WOW! This worked! I had been struggling for 3 months with my Note 2. Been flashing rom after rom and got stuck in boot cycle. Actually broke down and brought phone to a cell repair shop. She said it just needed a new battery. $50 later got my phone back. She had put stock AT&T rom on it but lo and behold, my sim card didn't work and my IMEI was null. I brought it back and she had it for a week and then said there was a hardware problem AND my USB port wasn't working and it would cost more to fix than it was worth, so she gave it back to me no charge. So I spent next months trying other roms. reading up on EFS folder, even learned some ADB stuff. To no avail. And BTW, my usb port seems to work fine. Finally this afternoon after Turkey Dinner, I stumbled across your forum message. And 15 minutes later I was downloading a repair and the son of a gun fixed everything. I verified it with a Sim card - perfect ! Apparently Samsung has a database of phone serial numbers and what IMEI code goes with them. Fanatastic! Thank you. I will be writing a serious neg review of that cell phone repair place soon.

I have the S3 from Samsung, model number SGH-I747. While installing the new 4.4 update, it got interrupted and, well, lets just say that I have a 4.4 bootloader with my old 4.3 rom. I have tried flashing and even connecting to Kies to see if that will work. Nothing has been able to convince this bootloader to load something else. To add on, this new bootloader from Samsung has a capability to avoid being replaced, so I can't downgrade it.
Now this would be fine if my phone would have full functionality. However, it doesn't. It cannot see the sim card (yes it is inserted properly). My friend and I determined that the reason my sim card couldn't be read was because the EFS folder was empty. Any fixes on that? Also, my sound does not work (through headphones and through the built-in speaker). We could not figure out why. To add on, videos and music sometimes just refuse to play. I don't know why, but I am experienced with root and Odin, so anything works. This one stumped me.
Thanks

So you tried to reflash again that 4.4 update but this time with odin ?
Try to enter into recovery mode: Hold volume up + power button + home at the same time... After this wipe data and cache... If your phone after this process not work try again to flash that update...
PS: I'm not responsable if you brick your phone or if bad things happen
Do at your own risk.
