[Q] Hard?/Soft? Brick, Hope for My GPe? - Sony Xperia Z Ultra

Red light shines for a few seconds, when plugged into charger, or computer. Flash Tool shows "Device connected with USB off", and "For 2011 devices line, be sure you are not in MTP mode".
Pushing, holding any and all combinations of power, volume up/down produce no other lights or actions in Flash Tool. This includes pushing in the "red Reset" button, while using the above combinations.
Bootloader is unlocked. Was trying to downgrade and I think I [email protected] up & flashed a wrong tft file.

The only thing I can suggest is:
Start flashtool
Connect GPe Ultra
Hold the vol - key down (use a rubberband or the like)
Hard reset using red button
Watch for LEDs and flashtool output

Thank you Blueether. Tried just as you suggested, but no reaction. I wish there was a way to turn usb debugging on. With out that, seems hopeless.

Yes it did.

Why are you worry so much, if your device is going into flashmode and showing in flashtool you are golden.........................no need for the usb.....debugging
just fire up flashtool connect your device to flashtool and falsh any ftf file (you have to download it preferly specific for your model from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2453921) for your device don't exlude anything aaaaaaaand you are done.................

yepp... as the post above states, nothing much to fear at this point.. forget usb debugging... thats not relevant at this point.. just load n FTF and start flashing (without connecting the phone) till it gets to the point where flashtool will ask u to connect the phone in flashmode pictographically... connect the phone on usb (hooked to ur pc) holding the vol key down (with the phone powered off - obviously power's off thats why u scared its bricked).. u'll see a green led flash on ur phone for a sec... and on ur computer, u'll noticed that the flashing has begun.... just to be safe... to avoid ur phoney battery dying out amidst ftf flashing, see if u can leave ur phone hooked to ur charger for about 20 minutes atleast... before u atempt any of this... the phone might not turn on now... but it still can have its battery charged... alternately, if u happen to have a magnetic charger, u can hook that up to the phone the same time ur phone's connected to flashtool as welll... beats having to deal with worse situations if ur flashing gets cancelled midway... dont worry... we've all been thru it..
while ur phone's being flashed, u can download a RIC disabled modded kernel with recovery for the version of FTF u happened to flash.. download jackie's modded 681 kenel if u flashed 681 FTF... or chillychan's kernel if u flashed 290 or 136 FTF..
when flashin's done... and flashtool says unplug ur phone, do so and then much like u connected earlier, this time, hold the vol up (with the phone powered off - as it always does when flashing's over) connect phone back to USB.. this time u'll see blue led lit up continuously... thats fastboot mode... u can flash the above mentioned kernel using flashtool (i personally never used flashtool for fastboot mode) or like i do, flash the kernel using terminal (mac) or command prompt (windows) if u already have fasboot.exe adb etc from android development kit or standalone files..
then u can disconnect, start ur phone, set it up, download supersu onto ur internal or ext sd card, then boot to recovery. flash supersu and ur phone's rooted too... obviously, flashing kernel and su can be done anytime later not necessarily right after flashing FTF... i mentioned coz thats what i do... u can do it at any point it time since ur bootloader's unlocked anyway
hope all turns out well for u

This is for a GPe Ultra. No FTFs, only doomlords kernel, etc.
Make sure you know what you are telling someone in case you brick their phone.
Also note that they said it wouldn't go into flash mode.
OP can youu try the my steps again but with the vol up key held in?

Yes, tried it all again with vol up key held in, no result. In FlashTool, flash mode, I can see the FTF under firmwares that bricked me. It's a .290 ftf for C6806 models. Debating weather to try the Hard Brick method or just paying Sony to repair it.

Sadly no. Played dumb with Google store rep. & sent it back. They received it 8 days ago. Supposed to have an answer by 14 days. Instead of option of receiving a new phone, that I would have to pay for, I chose a refund. If they tear it down I'm screwed. Bootloader was unlocked. Good luck to you.

[Q] [U] Not turning on after installing kernel. Bricked?

Hi guys, yesterday I unlocked and rooted my Xperia U, as I didnt have time anymore, I decided to install the kernel today, so when I installed it, I tried turning on my phone - nothing. I just got that red light thingy sometimes that is active 2-3 seconds, I tried charging but still nothing, funny thing is, when I connect it to my 2nd PC with XP on it, it connects, but in My Computer I only see "Digital Camera" and cant open it, also Windows Explorer popup for it keeps constantly, well, popping up but its empty and I cant select anything. I'm now downloading flashtool, is there anything I can do else? Im desperate, I got this phone for only 3 days.
Okay, now I'm in flashtool, I'm about to start flashing but I cant get into fastboot mode... What should I do?
Bump? :crying:
Please dont make me spam, I searched everything, I'm pretty sure my problem is unique, I cant access fastboot. Nothing
try this:
1. charge your phone for about 1 hour
2. open flashtool then click fastmode and choose your firmware.
3. make sure your phone is off ( i dont know if this is the same with xperia U volume up+power button wait til vibrates three times)
4. when it says connect your phone into fastmode, connect your phone via usb, then hold volume up + power button and wait till it vibrates three times, then hold power button+ volume down.
5. it will flash your firmware.
or you can flash the stock kernel (just extract from ftf, same instructions above).
I charged it for the whole night, the problem is, I cant access fastboot. All the drivers are installed but nothing.
I'm sending my phone for repair probably, with rooting I broke my warrant, what's going to happen?

Not vibrating, also, no led.
The only sign I get is when I take out the battery and put it back in, it vibrates for a second. Thats it.
Try to remove the battery and than try all keys combination, and also try to get to connect it to your flashtool.Try hard reset combination.Remove the battery, put the battery, hold power+vol. up button for. 20 sec. If that doesn't make.Try the same only with vol. down button .If that doesn't work, take it to the service shop than....
Hit Thaks if I helped
Hold vol up when replacing the battery, then quickly shove the USB cable in. Phone should vibrate when you put the battery in and you have a second or two to get it into fastboot or flashboot.
Probably a bad install of a kernel, make sure you're using the right one for your phone.
Not sure if it works for the U, but that's how I fixed my Sola.

[Xperia U] boot loop/soft brick

While updating a new Xperia U to ICS the PCC had an error while flashing the new firmware. Now the screen lights up, the sony logo is shown for ~3-5 seconds and then it reboots.
After that I have been unable to get it recognized again by either PCC/SUS or flash tool.
I also checked my log files in Linux and no device appears.
I've tried 3 different machines (2x Windows 8, 1x Win 7), multiple USB ports. Also leaving the battery out for ~30 mins didn't change the behavior.
The green light for download mode comes on, but after about 5 seconds the light goes out and it goes into the boot loop again.
So by now I believe the device needs to be sent in, but maybe some one has a few more things I can try.
Try pressing the volume down plus volume up plus power button all 3 simultaneously till u feel 3 vibrations

Can you make sure the Flashtool drivers are installed ? Go to Flashtool Directory, open drivers directory and start the setup.. Make sure to select the Flashmode and Fastboot drivers are also selected. Then, reboot System and folow this order.
Startt flashtool, select f/w, wait for Flashtool to tell you to connect to device. Then, holding the Volume down button (while phone is switched off), plug the cable into phone (The usb cable must already be connected to PC before starting the Flash Procedure )
The Order is very important.. I had same issue with U (althoguh mine crashed with Flashtool and same as what you observed. When I followed this order, I was able to get it detected and flashed )
Hopefully, you wont need to return to Service Center

No response, I've tried holding all three buttons for a minute, but it doesn't vibrate after turning on. The only way I can turn it off is by removing the battery.

I tried that right now, Flashmode and Fastboot drivers are installed. Flash tool is ready, device is plugged in with volume down pressed, green light comes on. Nothing is found on the PC, after about 5 seconds the green light turns off and the phone shows the sony logo. Green light also comes on if i simply plug in the usb without volume down pressed. So I'm thinking, the download mode has some how been corrupted?

keep the phone off
Press the volume down button ( keep it pressed, dun

I'm in the exactly same situation... Any help is welcome...
While trying to enter flashmode, green light turns on but after some secs it turns off and sony logo appears on screen. any chance to recover this beautiful brick ?
thanks
After several tries (a lot of...) I manage to enter flashmode and SUS is now reinstalling sony ROM.
Honestly I don´t know how it works this time and not the others but i'm happy with it independently of what happens.
... seems flashtool is detecting ur phone try to flash first the stock kernel and do not wipe everything it shud be in timing though.. onces it is flash charge ur phone in kernel mode (phone is off) then you can flash the stock fw of ur XU.
I bricked my phone
I bricked my xperia U as well... When i tried to power ON, it just vibrates and nothing happens, i dont even get the sony logo. When i get into flash boot mode it gets connected but after 20secs, the phone turns off again. Only fastboot mode stays on. How can i unbrick my phone??? Plz help. I made a mistake by flashing the custom jelly bean rom without flashing the kernel first.

No worries. The phone turns off because it doesn't receive any signal from the PC - many people make the mistake of connecting the device in flashmode first, and then they start the flashtool etc.
Instead, load the flashtool first, go to flashmode, select a complete/full stock ftf for your phone (whichever version you want, but do double check if the ftf has kernel.sin file in it) and press the flash button. Only once you get the pop up with the animation telling you to connect the phone in flash mode, connect the phone in flashmode (volume - button pressed when connecting cable). As soon as you connect the phone, the flashtool will start its magic and your phone won't turn off.
if you can go in cwm wipe system then you will only be stuck on sony logo then use this guide http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hPPWRXcsz7g.....it will work because this same happened to me and i fixed it with this method!

[Q] Xperia pro not enter flash(or fastboot) mode. LED blinks only...

Hi guys,
I have mk16i(xperia pro), and installed latest lx cm11 build. Then, I tried dark's kernel. But I wanted to revert to the stock kernel.
Now at that point, i couldn't enter the fastboot or flash mode anymore. The OS running w/o any problem. But i'm stuck with the dark's kernel(which is very battery unfriendly,10 hour standby)
When i try to connect the phone to PC while pressing menu(or back button) the LED blinks for miliseconds and the phone continues switching on normally (enter OS).
I know it is my fault to install nonstock kernel but I really need help. If anyone experienced this issue, it will be great to hear the advice.
Thanks in advance
Try taking out the battery for a few seconds, reinserting it, pressing the button for fastboot mode (I don't know which one you have to use for the xperia pro) and then you connect it to your PC while keeping the button pressed. This should work

Thanks for the reply.
I tried it many times. But no chance... The LED blinks then the phone goes into OS.
I tried to reboot fastboot via adb commands. Again same result. Directly goes to OS.
Flashtool also stucks at "Device will soon enter fastboot mode" nothing happens. Phone stays on...
Is it hw fault? I will be very disappointed if so I replaced its digitizer recently by paying too much money.) It was expensive when i bought it also... I cant stand buying a new phone these times... pff too many issues...
Sounds weird. I have made the experience that it sometimes helps to take the battery out, then keep pressing multiply and long the power button. Wait ~10 minutes. Insert the battery and try again!
Hopefully it helps!
Otherwise could maybe be kernel related. Try to flash another one (with recovery).

i cant imagine flashing darks kernel broke yr bootloader. theres sth wrong with your machine / setup / whatever.

Thanks for the answers. Yes unlocked bootloader.
Since the device doesn't boot into "flash" mode also, i am not able to flash ftf through flashtool or any firmware via SEUS.
I had managed to enter fastboot mode once!
Happened with USB3.0 port via "adb reboot-bootloader" command.
Still, I am not getting into fastboot again...
I will inform you, thanks guys.
EDIT: I did it once again thru adb in recovery and flashed a stock kernel. Let me see the battery drain is due to kernel or some hw damage.
I am sure hw is damaged...
Ultimately solved...
After i am able to enter fastboot mode via some funny method described above, i erased system partition and flashed kernel.sin of the official .587 ftf file of Sony Xperia Pro.
Now the device is able to enter flash mode and fastboot mode via normal ways...
Thanks guys...
EDIT: I dont understand how is it related to kernel? I thought that bootloader files are damaged which i cannot correct them.
There are many .sin files in the stock .ftf which i cannot flash any of them without flash mode.(i was able to enter fastboot mode only)

Guys please help. I am very confused now: When i connect the phone to charger(AC) when the phone is OFF, the phone tries to enter flash mode!?! Led blinks green then the phone continues to open and offline charging animation comes as usual.
Sometimes the phone connects the charger in flash mode! But doesnt connect to usb in flash mode or fastboot mode. I know it is a bit confusing but that is the situation.

Xperia Z Ultra Stuck on Sony screen

my xperia device is stuck on the sony logo. wont pass that part. doesn't go into flashmode or fastboot, nothing. what can I do plz I need help. cant use flashmode on the pc as the computer never recognizes the phone bcuz it doesn't go into fastboot mode.
If your phone even starts, then fastboot and flashmode should work just fine. What's the last thing you did before it wouldn't boot?
1. Hold VOL UP while plugging it in the USB on your computer. The LED should get blue
2. Either use fastboot through command-line or use QuickIMG to boot a custom kernel with recovery.
3. Flash or restore a ROM

Do the following exactly as outlined.
1- with the phone DISCONNECTED from your pc or charger, hold the power and up buttons until it vibrates and turns off.
2- open the flashtool and select an ftf to flash, and wait for the message that asks you to connect the phone in flash mode.
3- the phone must still be off. Hold the down button and connect the phone to the usb port in the pc. The flashing will start.
I tried that it goes back to the sony logo.

How did you try to unroot? It's weird if you don't have working fastboot or flashmode, and without those, you're pretty much screwed. Those two should work even if you screw up big-time, like flashing a wrong kernel, but you must have done something weird if they stopped working?
And let me get this straight, you are pressing and HOLDING the volume buttons when you plug it to your computer, right? Make sure that the device is completely off by pressing and holding POWER + VOL UP. It'll vibrate a couple of times. Note that you're not supposed to be connected to the computer, since it'll then just boot again.
Then press and HOLD VOL UP for fastboot (blue LED), OR VOL DOWN for flashmode (green LED flashing shortly)
You probably already know these steps, but we have to make it absolutely certain that it's a hardware issue, and not an issue with the thing you do

I was going to flash the stock rom using flashtool right but everytime i tried to put the phone into fastboot mode it would go to the battery icon. At this point the phone was working fine. But no fastboot mode at all. Then i factory erased the phone through twrp. After that it doesnt boot up. Just sony logo no led lights. Even if i do vol up or down. Straight to the sony logo. Vol up plus power button, vibrates couple of times. I redo the process and it goes back to the sony logo.

The thing is that the screen shouldn't power on when you enter fastboot. The only thing that should go on is the blue LED. I don't use TWRP, and I don't know how it wipes stuff and if it only deletes user data, or if it formats the system. If it does the latter, then it literally wipes the system partition, making it empty, so if you ever format the system, you should flash a new ROM ASAP. A little late for that now though, but I'm still not convinced that fastboot isn't working.
ONE LAST TIME
NOTE: The device should be disconnected from the computer.
1. Turn the device OFF by holding and pressing the POWER button and VOL UP. It should be disconnected from the computer by now. Got it? Nice.
2. Plug the USB-cable in the device first, since it's easier to plug it into the computer. Do not plug it into the computer yet. Only the Ultra.
3. Now HOLD VOL UP. Just hold it in.
4. Stick the USB cable, which is already inside your Ultra, to your computer WHILE still holding VOL UP.
5. The blue LED above the screen should light up now. The display should not power on or anything else. The blue LED is the only thing that should turn on.
Still nothing?

Check whether the drivers have been properly installed in ur PC. If u can't get into flashmode try another system to flash the ftf. Procedure hold volume down while connecting the usb to plug. U will see a green led blink.

Oh! You probably haven't installed fastboot on your computer. Download and install, and try again.

Wooooohoooo phones alive jajaja. Thankssss. Though i got some more questions. First time i unlocked boatloader i was told to backup my TA files. what do i do with those now? I just flashed a stock c6806 unbranded rom. When i try to update the phone through settings it says it couldn't verify the update. i retried the process through sony companion app, and it says my phone is modded so it wont do anything.

The TA partition is where your DRM keys are. It's a good idea to backup those keys in case you want to revert to complete stock in the future, or when you need to send it in for repairs. Unlocking the bootloader will remove the keys, but since your device was - weirdly enough, already bootloader unlocked, I don't think you even had DRM keys to start with, which is again, very weird.
No biggie though. Gone is gone. The reason why PC Companion told you that it's been modified, is because you're rooted, and it knows it, so you'll have to unroot before you update. That's only if you're updating through official channels, but you have a second alternative; Flashtool. It allows you to flash stock Sony ROMs, or FTF-files.
But you're saying that you flashed a stock 6806 ROM now, and that's what? 5.0.2? Why don't you just download the .368-update (Android 5.1.1)? Then you'll be on the latest version.

I did unlock bootloader myself, TA file were backup. My phone is the 6806 model. The only ftf file i found on xda with a working link was for 4.2 jellybean. I just restored my TA files am going to reflash that stock rom and see what it says now.

have my xperia z ultra same error that file will solve i dont know if my sony has unlock bootloader,

Bricked Sony Xperia Z3v (D6708)

Hello,
I have recently made a horrible mistake, I flashed the incorrect ROM on my Xperia Z3v leaving the phone bricked. I am asking for your help. I have tried using the Flashtool but I am not certain if it's the phone or I that is causing a mistake. The steps thus far that I have followed.
Downloaded: Flashtool & Drivers
Installed: Drivers for Xperia Z3v
Downloaded: Firmware from XperiFirm
Now, the issue next is nothing shows up in my firmware when I attempt to flash. I have checked the source folder the .ftf files are there.
Furthermore:
When I hold VOL UP and plug in the USB>Blue led is indicated
When I hold VOL DOWN and plug in USB>Red flashes with a second of green whilst vibrating
Found this video on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dtaUxuorVSA
Exactly like this, checked for a solution seems like he repaired it via sony. Unfortunately for me I don't have that luxury.
**Update**
I installed the lastest release of flashtool (0.9.22.2) but it occurred to me to revert back to the previous release (0.9.18.6)
Now I can finally see the firmware but I am still having issues actually flashing the file. I get errors such as:
ERROR - root : this bundle is not valid
ERROR - Cannot delete C:\Users\Juan\.flashTool\firmwares\prepared\userdata.sin
**More Information**
I should include I am on a locked bootloader
same
that seem the same with my situation

Okay the green light is flash mode / upgrade mode. The blue light is fast boot. You want it on with the green light on to flash it once it's bricked. You can't flash it using fast boot mode because the boot loader isn't unlocked.
Now what you have to do is get it with the green light on and then the drivers installed.
Can't delete the file means that it had error while trying to flash and all that you have to do is restart the app and that goes away.
Now for the next problem is that I had this one and what I did to fix it is that I had to reinstall the drivers because those weren't correct and I did reinstalled it and it all worked good. Thanks.
Download the correct firmware for your phone (model and Country).
Use flashtool to install it on your phone
Works with a locked bootloader, no need for USB debugging.
The first error might be you ended up downloading the incorrect or incomplete firmware
I had the exact problem that you are having. I ended re downloading the flashtool a few times from various computers and then i got it to work. I figured when i downloaded it the first time i had a version that was to old/new. Or a bad connectiin when i downloaded it first time. After i downloaded flashtool again itthwn worked without issue just as it should. Whatever the provlem was for me was having to do with the download or version i downloaded wouldnt work completely. I think my internet connection when i downloaded it wasnt very good and maybe didnt download it right.
I made the same mistake too, trying to flash a z3 zip file. Then I got to run around my home city to find help. Then there's a guy. He had to open the back cover and connect directly to the circuit board in order to do something about the eMMC and SEtool or... something, I'm not sure. The phone is alive again! (costed quite a lot for a student, but... yay?). Funny though, he said the circuit board is similar to a z2 and not a z3. Maybe you could find someone who knows about these kinds of thing. Hope that help.

That's strange were you on a locked bootloader?
Currently attempting to fix it once more, will update if I find anything out.

Yeah, I think? I mean, it's right out of the box. Also, I think it's worth mentioning that the guy had to use SEtool twice to get mobile signal.
Did you fix the problem? I have the same problem now.
With a Z3v. D6708. I have a problem, got a wrong ROM, the flashee and now not start the phone in any way. The only way to start is "System Recovery" volume + power, which has 4 options: 1. "Continue Power UP", 2. "Safe mode", 3. "Factory Reset" and 4. "Power Down". The thing is try from flashtool but when I give "volume down" and connect the computer does not recognize. When light it even reaches the boot animation. When I give power with USB cable is connected in a loop is vibrating and shows red, blue and green.
I have exactly the same problem of the youtube video.
As it could fix the problem?
Some help ?
Thank you !
Pd. The device only have FastBoot.
did u solve this?

Bricked for days!
Is anyone still following this thread. I have the same problem after trying to install MIUI 6 on my rooted unlocked TWRP'd Xperia z3V. After the MIUI installation I have nothing but the symptoms below.
Not able to get into flashmode
No screen or bootup
No recovery
Symptoms:
1 -When plugged into PC or wall it only blinks RED/GREEN light and vibrates.
2 -Holding POWER the light turns and stays GREEN until released (then returns to #1)
3 -Holding POWER + VOLUME UP BLUE light stays on and puts phone in Fastboot mode
4 -Holding POWER + VOLUME DOWN does nothing (continues to do #1)
Please Help!!!
Google Sony Developers. Try to unlock your bootloader.
Sent from my D6708 using XDA-Developers mobile app
I think the phone will reject the command. Tried on a bricked z3v and that's the response I get from fastboot with the Sony commands given through the developer aite.

The phone is not and most likely never will be bootloader unlocked. Planning to buy for another phone is your only option.
I've already moved to a tmo note 4. Not much development there either, but it's nice. Miss the z seires though and may come back to it next year. We'll see how they fair with phones for the next few months state side abs if prices even out on the x or z5.
I fixed mine

Unless you're going to post a link or YouTube video we all have access to, wouldn't bother asking people for direct email addresses to send them. That's the reason for PM'S and the forum on general. If you have a fix, we'd all like to know what it is you were able to do that none of us have figured out.
