I honestly don't want to update to 4.4 kitkat. I refuse to acknowledge googles authority to dictate what I can do with my hardware to that level (the not letting me write to the SD card was the last straw)
Google does not seem to get it that the CLOUD SUCKS with horrible data speeds and capped monthly limits with at home and mobile. screw the cloud.
anyway. what will I miss skipping 4.4 and staying on 4.3? can some of the 4.4 updates be integrated into 4.3?
Thanks!

Nothing from 4.4.2 will really be missed. .. But you won't be getting a new phone anytime huh .... They will all have the sd issue
It's fixable and just apps are going to have to change bit until then folder Mount app in play store fixes it

I know. its driving me mad. but that is a line I simply won't permit intrusion. its my property and I won't tolerate someone trying to dictate what I do with my property. KNOX was bad enough but that was not OS level I could bypass knox.
now google is trying to force their nexus junk philosophy via the OS and that is a bad bad sign. these types of actions are why I avoid "apple" icrap like the plague.
U actually don't have a choice ... Apple is worse in every way ... windows phone SUCKS even more .... so at least you can fix what they were doing ...

Hell nah im not updating to kk anytime soon... actually I'm on my second note3 ,first one didnt remove the auto update while on wifi and updated. Same day turned around returned the phone drove to another bestbuy and got the note again with 4.3 and im not upgrading!!! The battery life for me is critical and on 4.3 I get much better results
I miss the green battery icon from 4.3 lol...
From what I've read people love it or hate it or have issues with certain hardware not functioning properly after the update.
Personally, after setting up MJ4 just how I want it I will opt to stay with MJ4 4.3 until I am convinced the KitKat upgrade is absolutely necessary. Why fix what isn't broken? I'd love to try out all the new stuff but will have to wait for a viable downgrade solution from NAB(D) to MJ4.
Thanks to @micmars who provides so much support to the community and gave me enough information to make my decision, while tempting me with the performance, speed and battery life improvements of NAB(D).

O-o Rich Hubbard will be on fire now )
Not surprised at all, they will continue to have excuses and when it does come out it will be the only update we shall see. Glad I like the phone for what it is and am not too worried on the jelly bean switchover...I just want a smooth "bugless" phone which for the most part it is.

Come on Rich Hubbard! Give us more details!
this is why I sent it back even though I loved the phone. there was no reason why the phone should have been released with ICS in the first place. its a beautiful phone but battery was a no no. plus jelly bean should come. by that time key lime pie will be the new kid on the block in the months to come. and I highly doubt LGOG would ever get that. I was completely spoiled with battery from the note 2

Your loss. Considering how well it runs ICS and how little you actually gain with Jellybean, it's not like the phone is somehow inferior without the update. Let's look at what you get:
1) Project Butter - which will make almost no noticeable difference in the way the phone runs
2) Improved notifications - Good
3) Google Now - excellent
That's it, really. Of those, Google Now is the only "must have" for me and I can wait a few months. The phone runs great as is and has lots of excellent customizations by LG that actually make it a better phone than it would be stock. I'm more concerned that they will introduce bugs or remove features with the JB update than anything.
I'm not sure what your issue was with battery, either. Mine has been great.

You don't even have to wait for Google Now if you're willing to flash a ROM that has it. Sure, it's not the latest and greatest version of it, but it works perfectly well

His loss indeed. The way this phone runs out of the box beats any other devices stock to stock. Rooted and debloated it's even better. JB isn't the giant leap that some people are making it out to be imo. I have no problem waiting myself. If I wanted it now I'd flash the Korean port.

Exactly! My worry also - that it will mess something up with a JB update. The phone (for me) is perfect as is & I love it & don't want anything to mess it up. I am getting excellent battery life & for me that can't be improved because the battery life is phenominal for me. In short, the LGOG E970 AT&T version is THE phone for me & I love it & don't want anything to change. If JB comes, I will wait anyway before updating just to make sure that there weren't any problems caused by the update.
why does everyone get so touchy when someone says they returned the LGOG. I was just stating my opinion that's all. I don't know what my deal with battery was either. I could actually sit there while using it and watch it drain. even after conditioning. this was with a complete restore as well. sometimes dropping almost 10% in an hour with hardly doing anything with it. amazon didn't have any left in stock at the time of the return so I opted for a refund. not saying not having jelly bean is the reason for returning it. all I am saying is this phone should have shipped with it. there was no reason not too period. it will prob get it. but I wouldn't hold my breath after that. especially after the pro is released. just my 2 cents

Agree 100%.
Sadly, a lot of everyday users probably have no idea Google maps has navigation, and since I don't think it is stock installed on at&t devices, they never see it.
I had to tell my techchallenged aunt not to use any at&t crap on her phone.
6 months later she got an iPhone and a hotspot plan so she could wirelessly teather after her router acted up.
I had to facepalm because I could have gotten her free teathering on her Android phone.
Slightly related, does anybody know if there is an unlimited dataplan with the hotspot plan? She was adamant she had unlimited even though my understanding is 5 gigs is as high as you can go on a single plan.
I have been running Bean's ROM since build 1. Everything works the way it should. Love it.
I am curious about the other ROMs in the open android forum, but they all seem to screw up GPS (i need this), camera is flaky, etc.
Is there a AOSP based ROM that has no issues and if you want to go back to TW you just re flash the TW rom. Meaning no flashing extra files to fix stuff that AOSP changes.
My last Sammy phone was a nexus and you just flashed compatible roms and all was good
You're out of luck. You have to flash a downgrade file. It's like 200kb so it's not hard at all... GPS is solid on all aosp roms I've tried. And camera doesn't have any noticeable difference. If you're scared, don't try it. If you have some form of balls then man up and flash it buddy don't take that as being mean. Just joking around

I'm kind of the with you, man. Not really afraid I'm just not wanting to have to redo all I've done to what I have and don't really know that aosp is for me anyway. Really getting an itch to try something other than Beans though, I've just become so complacent, feels like home now. First phone I've rooted and ROMd (g2x was nothing but a nightmare to mod for the most part, so I never did) so I'm not the most knowledgeable on android per say, but I've run Linux for almost ten years so it's not too unfamiliar.
Just be prepared to deal with problems, they're half the fun when messing with anything new, and after fixing it you've gained more knowledge, always satisfying.

You wouldn't have to mess with ODIN again just by trying out a new ROM.
Run a nandroid.. And backup your data in your local sdcard.. GPS is not an issue for most and the fix is to install a stock ROM then go back to AOSP anyways so you should be fine.. Camera does have an issue but only if you use touch to zoom and flash at the same time ( third party cameras have no issue what so ever)
Try AOSP and don't be scard .. That is unless you are scared you won't ever go back to TW
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2
I bounce back and forth between TW and AOSP alot and it really is not that big of a deal. You flash the small zip file after flashing or restoring a TW rom and all is the way it was. I have also had pretty good luck with GPS and I've found some nice 3rd party camera apps if my pics aren't top my liking.
I say go for it. With the apps and tools available these days for backing up and restoring, there should be no fear of playing around. Going back is a 5 minute restore away if aosp is not for you.
BTW, since kejar31 is in the house....try out carbon. Pure sweetness!!!!

I run liquidsmooth 2.1 stable, and I like it. Runs fairly stable with a few minor bugs.
1. Sometimes device freezes requiring battery removal when in range of some Wi-Fi networks. I work around this by using tasker to turn off Wi-Fi when I'm not home
2. The only GPS bug I have found is GPS toggle will cause GPS service to look for location indefinitely. This seems to be caused by the need to click I agree every time, which is hidden when using toggle. The work around for now is to disable Wi-Fi location services, but this causes Google now to complain
3. Bluetooth headset support is still non existent and Google don't seem to care lol
4. Still cannot send DTMF tones once dialer execution is completed. Can set long strings of pause/wait commands ie. "," or ";" however once strings are complete Android system prevents any further DTMF from being sent. Most likely some retarded developer at Google decided this would be a great feature so you don't accidentally hit keys with your face.... but in reality all this does is prevent you from checking your voicemail. Considering the age and the number of posts on the bug report, it seems Google don't care about this problem either lol

Nope nothing has changed for your phone. You'll have to wait until Verizon sends 4.4, your way...but most likely running it via SafeStrap is going To take quite some time if its even possible.

actually were temp set on that aspect we'll be able to run safestrap with 4.4 just like the AT&T and Note3 users I've got all the file templates ready even in a minute or less i'll build these "magic" upgrade / downgrade SS methods . I was loading 4.4 on tmobile phones in jan its now april and were still waiting. we should start a bounty for a hacker to be pulling test firmware or leaks from vzw for us

If there is another update that isn't a major one (KK? fingers crossed) then it might require being updated to B148 first. Just a guess. It is a stretch to think we'll get another update to this phone though but we can't rule it out now that Huawei has come through with this minor update. It might be that since they mentioned a 4.4 KK update is coming when the phone came out that this update we just got would be a test run for the whole process. That's thinking optimistically. Realistically, I have no idea but would be happy if we continued to get updates (any at all) on our HAM2's.
Low light photography . Usually when you take a pic in low light it tends to darken the background too much . This update helps in that department . Plus , these updates provide an overall better stability to the system , the "misc. fixes" (No detailed description) they put at the end of the description should not be overlooked . They test the device thoroughly at their office and made the small needed changes . Even though you might not think it's a lot . Always better to stay updated . If it wasn't necessary nor improved the experience they would not have pushed the update out at all . My two cents . Update !
Well I was going to put in my 2 cents but you two said it all. If you made it all the way to the XDA website and was able to register and post something onto form your more then capable of upgrading to the new SYSTEM UPDATE. Plenty of people went ahead of you already and another thread was created for that. Everyone is having success with the B418 update.
The camera was rubbish in low light, and now it runs much smoother. Not iPhone or Android flagship smooth, but good enough.
And again, everyone else said pretty much all there is to say!

Why upgrade from any software? What was wrong with Android 4.1? it runs everything. The manufacturer of the phone put in the money to update and push out the update for a reason. Not spyware. My phone has the update and i just hit the 48 hour mark and I still have 18%
Is B148 really an "upgrade"? Have any impactful improvements been noted?
If I hadn't rooted my phone I would install the update. But considering the lengthy process due to my root, I'm going to wait for the KitKat update.

Update
I know I can't prove it but I just want it to be posted that before when I was on System Software B126 MightyText did not work when the screen was off. Even when I had it on protected apps and wifi on when the screen is off while charging. I had to keep my screen awake while I was using the app. Now after the update B148 I no longer have to do that. I was also having some problems with dropbox syncing when my phone is off and that is also fixed. So the "other fixes" in the system update. The stuff that they didn't mention is the reason why you should update. Actually since I have had the update my phone has been running very smooth. Everything just works when you click it.. Weirddd....
So I have tried almost every thing to fix the lag that came with lollipop 5.1.1 my phone locks up and becomes completely unresponsive . Until I reboot. Often when I'm browsing and the phone rings I am not able to answer it and end up rebooting the phone and calling back the missed call. I was about to revert to kitkat when I decided to try removing my micro sdcard. I opened up a lot of apps YouTube Facebook Twitter etc. And had my wife call me twice. So far no problems and no lag. If I can get by for a week like this with no issues I will just live without the sdcard. Otherwise I go back to kitkat
I'm noticing the same thing on 5.1.1 and I haven't been able to isolate it. I thought it might be a corrupted app so I downgraded or reinstalled frequently used apps. Still testing. Downgrading to KK isn't an option for me because I want to be patched for stage fright. I wish they would release a KK rom that's patched.
According to the stage fright app 5.1.1 is still vulnerable.
hey ashraf sharif i've been going thru the same thing it is so annoying to have to take back cover off then batt because phone won't respond also i had to disable volte because some phone call will not ring my phone they would go straight to voice mail turn volte off fix that problem. the other thing i notice with the upgrade when you take a picture and you want to send it usually i would select the < with the 3 dots=share via and then i can pick message it no longer says that. only choice now wifi bluetooth i made a back up of 5.0 might go back to that later on today

i dont remove the battery i just press vol down and home and power . this reboots it. removing the sdcard helps alot initially but the longer the phone is on the buggier it gets. im going back to kitkat

I'm back on nk2 kitkat towelroot. My phone seems like new. Lollipop simply demands more ram than the s5 has . This happened with the Motorola atrix when ice cream sandwich was released. I have the exact same issues! I was really hoping I wouldn't have them, but I do. Just started happening 2 days ago. It really really pisses me off! They should have put 3gb of ram on this phone. The note 3 has 3 and this phone came out after it. Either way, I am not happy at all! I'm going to try a couple different Roms from the international section and see what happens. Update, nothing is working! I'm so sick of this phone. I'm taking it back to RAC right now, and I'm gonna ask for a note 3. At least the note 3 I've had before and can handle lollipop. I'm so frustrated with Samsung over this S5 it isn't even funny. I'll update and let u guys know what and if Rent a Center gives me a different phone.

So tonight I decided to do a refresh and via stock recovery wipe cache and then wipe data and factory reset. I then reinstall everything from scratch. So far I'm seeing good results. I'll let you know if they last....or if they don't.

I can report that after a few days of use the phone is much more responsive. All the lag seems gone.
I'm having nothing but problems with the S5 and lollipop. Major lag even after Turning down the animations. I'm using my M8 right now, and it's day and night between the 2! Samsung really dropped the ball on the S5 lollipop update. The phone should have came with 3 gigs of ram. Nuff said!

Hi I was wondering if this means you're running on KitKat, or if you went back to Lollipop. I really want to stop this lag!
I've spoken to samsung and t mobile about this lag. They both made it seem like I'm the only one with this problem. Good thing I know better.
yea just like they ashure me that they fix stagefright but every app i tried says vulnerable and not to worried also have you notice that when you take a picture and go to the top to pich share with it no longer has message every thing is either wifi this or that .but back to your question yes i went back to 5.0=OB1 firmware
