My S3 can't call since update, but SMS is working - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I updated my s3 a week ago to 4.3 and now i can't call. I have no problems with SMS, everything is OK only when i try to call, i lose the signal for 10 sec. I tried lower versions but without luck. I also tried EZ unlock but it doesn't work.
Anyone any idea please ?
Thanks a lot in advance

Factory reset and flash the latest 4.3 with odin, if still the same then probably a hardware fault.

Skype uses ur wifi while phone call uses ur mobile network? U are confusing us. Is it ur voice tat is not working or the signal?

Sorry, let me explain it again. So, if i try to call someone, i hear nothing, and my signal is gone for 10 sec. My when i send an sms to someone, it's working fine. I can send and receive messages. Skype is working perfectly. So it's not a voice hardware problem

I think the problem is that you keep losing signal. That is why you can't make voice calls, but SMS can be sent and received whenever the signal is back up again.
But the solution remains the same as @JellyYogurt said: flash stock 4.3 via Odin.
PS: Voice calls and skype calls are different since most people use skype on wifi, not their data plan.

Changing the mode from gsm to umts doesn't matter. Your sms function should still work. You can change this mode by going to system setting press more than mobile network.
Just factory restore your phone from settings. Make sure you backup your data first.
Hope this helps.

Thank you for your quick answer,
unfortunate it did not work. I tried the sim card in an other phone and it did not work there either so it´s the sim card that´s the problem, apparently very unusual according to my service provider. Thy will send me a new sim card and that will take care of the problem.
Thank you

I have now tested the sim card in another phone and it did not work to send sms only recive.
Got a reply from Sammy. They said go to message settings and input the carrier SMS number which they provided to me. Did so and everything now works.

No service bug.

Hi guys!
Currently running miui and I've started having some issues. The experience is flawless expect for one little thing, I can't make calls. It used to work but has all of a sudden stopped working.
There is only silence when I attempt to make a call, however the phone I'm calling rings, but if picked up you can't hear anything. Then it would automatically hang up and say no service.
It seems like the phone isn't latching onto the network or disconnecting when I make a call at least.
Any help would be appreciated.

Sir, doesn't this sound like a problem either with the Modem or some system files (Like phone.apk) ?
Well, you are the senior.
Just a doubt actually..
It is just a possible solution, derived from similar problem on aosp, worth a try
Hey guys. Lock sounds are on. Still can't hear calls even when they connect and are picked up.
It worked when I cleared data for phone.apk but only for 2 calls and now it stopped working again..
Messages and internet work fine though.

Try re-flashing MIUI with a fresh install
Then it should work again. I'm using MIUI without a problem ( I know, I have to update my signature)

Had to reflash 3 times for it to work. Let's hope it doesn't die out on me again!

[Q] No sound when calling but speaker works fine

I've been using the nightly CM10.1 builds for a while now and it has always worked but lately when I tried to call someone I didn't hear the ringing before the call goes through and I can't hear them talking either but the speaker plays music and videos fine and I want to know how to fix this so I can call people normally again.
I have tried megawiping and reflashing, also going back to stock and starting again and other various methods like trying without gapps but I can't seem to get it to work and I really need it to cause its the only phone I can currently use but I found it was weird because this only occurs to my phone when running CM10.1 but calling works normally on stock and CM9.

I tried that as well and if you mean the thread on xda then I have posted my problem in the discussion thread and I was planning on asking on the CM forums about this problem.
I have same problem, I tried everything, flash ROM , radio, modem, full wipe, everything I could possibly thing of, but the Fu.cking problem is, the front speaker works fine with Viber, but absolutely no sound during the phone call!
And at end I sent it to warranty... hope it would work out

I think it's more of a CM / 4.2.x Version issue rather than a service centre issue - Read a few issues and some say this solves the problem, some say it doesn't give it a try
Ok, i might found a solution:
Turning on the lockscreen sound in the sound setting and then reboot. I´ll try it and then tell my experience with this solution.

maybe replace motherboard will fix it ...
cannot hear when calling
Anyone have the solution yet?
it just happened to me to with AOKP (the last version - JB-MR1 Milestone 1)
Everything works fine, in a middle of a call the phone restarted and now there is no sound
Edit:
After a few full wipes and refreshing all is working good now.
Possible solution

Try flashing a stable CM10.1 build.. You dont need to wipe data or factory reset and your problem will also be fixed without having any issues and loss of apps or data.. And keep in mind that if you will flash CM10.2 or 11 than you will need to wipe data. Since its not a stock Firmware, these always include some bugs or issues. But as always stable builds have all the bugs fixed that are found in nightly builds.. This all what you can do to solve your issue.

No. Call ur service provider and ask if u have caller id. Caller id is when someone call u, u can see who it is. Without caller id, there will be no number or name and will show as unknown. Which is ur current situation.

Caller ID is enabled by default for every mobile connection, this is not a reason, i think the problem was started when OP flashed rom, may be a dirty flash, or a possible problem may be in modem.

Calling issue

So as the title says recently I have been encountering this issue of reception/call.
When I answer some calls, the person can't hear me but I can hear them fine and they hang up they call again its working.
It was working fine before on 2G network, now I chose 4G preferred/3G/2G but it still persists.
