[Q] How to get ext4-formatted sd card to work? - AT&T HTC One (M8)

I would like to use an ext4 formatted sd card with the phone. It doesn't seem to be supported by the stock ROM -- it pops up an unrecognized format error, and only offers to reformat it. (TWRP can use it though, so I know the card works.)
Is this something that can be fixed in the stock ROM, or a stock-like one? Or will I have to switch to something AOSP-based to get it to work?

SD Card not mounting on clockworkmod

The sd card works with the system, and I can mount it on the computer, but clockworkmod won't work if I try to do anything that would use it. It just says can't mount SD card. I have tried to use it several times, and I have rebooted many times. But no matter what I do, including formatting the sd card, and reflashing the recovery. I don't know why it won't work though.
Easiest thing to do would be to flash Amon-Ra's recovery. Generally considered the better choice for the Eris. If you aren't sure how to go about this, just use Rom Mananger. There is a free and paid version. I'm not sure if the free version has the flash new recovery, but think so.
Fixed
I tried both, and neither was working. I finally fixed it by formatting the sd card with the phones option, instead of with my computer.

SD Card Mounting Problem after A2SD (I think)

It all started out with a simple root, flashing of recovery, and a flash of Megatron to my friend's Optimus T. It was great, the rom was fast, snappy, and much smoother than before. No problems......until my friend switched SD cards.
I am aware that messes up the ext4 partition of apps on the phone. Well, my friend switched back to the regular SD card, and it still didn't work. Soon, he started to get weird issues, such as the the boot animation switching back to the stock Android one from the sketch animation in Megatron. I told him to wipe data and cache, and told me that it didn't work. So, I have his phone right now, including a bit of headache.
The problem: The SD card refuses to mount on his phone. His phone boots up and all, but force closes after finishing the Setup Wizard with the message "The application 'Setup Wizard' closed unexpectantly" or something like that. And there was a black screen after that with nothing able to be accessed. The status bar still displayed, with the notification "SD Card is removed" or something along those lines. I suspected at first a data/cache/dalvik wipe would fix it, but to no prevail. In the recovery (using RA-thunderg-1.1.0-GNM), whenever I try to flash a zip, the following error appears:
E:Can't mount /dev/blocl/mmcblk0 p1 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0)(No such file or directory)
E: Can't mount SDCARD:
Also, when partitioning the SD card, the recovery says that it has succeded, but in reality, it hasn't. Also, converting ext2 to ext3 does not work and displays:
Error : Run 'fs ext3' via adb!
and for ext3 to ext4:
Error : Run 'fs ext4' via adb!
To add, the USB-MS option doesn't work either, as the Removable Disk does not show up in Windows.
I've also tried using a blank SD card that was freshly formatted: didn't work.
So it all boils down to the SD card not mounting.
Any solutions? I'm kinda responsible for this as I told my friend to do this, but I never expected such a problem. I am an experienced Android user as I've flashed, rooted, adb, and etc on a Droid Eris, Droid, Droid X, Samsung Continuim, and currently the Samsung Fascinate. The hardest problem I've encountered is dealing with Samsung's RFS issue, but I've gotten over that now. This is beyond anything I've seen.
Hopefully the community around here can help me as I've been trying to solve this for a few days now. Thanks for enduring through such a long post!
(P.S. All SD card's used are the stock Samsung Class 2 2GB that comes with the phone.)
Change the sd or try fresh format and reflash.
As said before, even with different SD cards, the card will not mount, and therefore I'm unable to flash anything from the SD card.

Yes, still on 2.1, waiting on some Gingerbread goodness, but might flash Vanilla Froyo.

only possible reason for what's,happening would be that you didnt follow the procedures correctly, I recomend u reflash stock rom and do all the procedures for flashing a custom rom correctly this time..
I flashed the rom correctly, and it worked perfectly until my friend switched SD cards, so I'm pretty sure I followed the procedures correctly.
Edit: Would you mind linking me to a stock reflash of the phone? Can't seem to find it....

[Q] Cant mount sd card to phone. Need help PLEASE

I am rooting my daughters Droid Eris. I used the app from the market and flashed Cyanogen 7. Everything went well until I tried to start restoring her apps and found that the phone is saying there is no sd card. When I go into setting to mount it it is greyed out and wont do anything. the gallery and rom manager also say there is no sd card. the card I am using is not partitioned. I tried taking a partitioned sd out of my old Cliq and putting it in and then it says it has a unsupported system or something like that but I did notice that the mount sd in settings was no longer greyed out. If I reboot into recovery it will recognize the card because it lists what is on it. I have searched everything I can find and cant find any answers. Oh, also, when I plug in the usb to the computer it does nothing then either. Any Ideas??
Go into recovery since her phone can read the card from there and reformat the card. You may also want to wipe data and dalvik and reflash the rom to be on the safe side.
Make sure that you backup anything currently on the SD card before formatting it, which you can do from the usb-ms toggle option in recovery. You will need to copy the rom file back to the phone after formatting the card which can be done from this option as well.
There should be an android.secured folder on the SD card. Delete that. You don't want it on there so make sure you don't copy it back to the card (it will come back after the first boot and it can then be left alone, I like to delete mine before each flash though to avoid possible problems.)
EDIT - DONT FORGET TO FLASH GAPPS RIGHT AFTER FLASH THE ROM! ALL CM7 ROMS REQUIRE THIS!
Let me know if you have any problems
Sent from my GSB Eris
Totally of the topic BUT I'm Selling a fully rooted Droid Eris running CM7 port ROM for $90...interested PM me.

Unable to mount SD card

I have a AT&T Galaxy S II running MIUI GalNet and are unable to mount my SD card.
I have tried mounting it on both Windows 7 and OS X Lion. On Windows, the device comes up as an unrecognized device, and I'm unable to find any drivers. On Mac, nothing ever happens.
I have my settings set to notify me on USB connect if I'd like to mount SD. It never appears. I set it to automatically mount SD, it never does.
I went into CWM and tried to mount the SD card from there. The results? Phone crashed, rebooted.
WHAT MUST I DO TO MOUNT MY DAMN SD CARD SO I CAN FLASH ANOTHER ROM?
THANK YOU
You have to talk to your ROM developer. It sounds really like a ROM thing (lack of proper file system support for SD card). Mounting the SD card to show up in Windows or Mac OS is even more involved. Even the stock ROM won't let you mount as external disk drives unless you go through settings to enable USB mass storage mode.
Can you get into download mode?
If you are able to boot into download you should be able to flash to stock using an Odin One-Click Downloader from I777UCKH7 Return/Unbrick to Stock (or Root) Odin3 One-Click Downloaders even without access to the sd card.
I've had the same problem!
I reflashed to stock then to Unnamed 1.3.2 then Unnamed 2.1.1
I added Unnamed using the internal SD card.
I've had no problems doing this. But my music player app seems to be running slow. Especially when scrolling songs. All my music is on the external Microsdhc card.
I've tried using another card with the same results.
Do you happen to be running Siyah's (spelling?) kernel?
If so, update to the latest version, it solved the same exact problem youre having for me

Yes it worked!!!! Thank You! I thought I had the latest Kernel, but I guess I didn't.
In searching for the latest kernel; I found out about "DarkyOTA" Great App! I used it to flash the latest kernel and it worked flawlessly! I went into CWM to try and mount the external SD and it worked without a problem!
Also since the reflash, The phone runs slightly smoother. My music player works like it used to!

[Q] extSD woes.

Whenever I flash a ROM onto my I9300 the extSD card will not mount. According to whatever ROM I use the card cannot be read or is corrupt. It works fine in stock JB, however when I restore the device to stock JB it then states the card needs formatting and I have to go through the process of chucking all my music back onto the card after I format (which I'm doing right now).
The card I'm using is a Sandisk Ultra 64GB Class 10. I'm able to make backups and restore from them on the card itself through PhilZ Touch as CWM wouldn't read the card either and some other users suggest I try PhilZ recovery as they've had similar problems. Has anyone else had this problem and is willing to offer a solution? If so what card do you use?
I've heard flashing back to ICS which will write a different mount code than the one JB writes to a device, and somehow this will fix future mounting problems. I don't know how much of this is true but you can read the article here: http://checkrom.com/threads/cant-mount-internal-sd-card.994/
non Sammy based Roms only support fat32
