Hi, I've been trying to sort this out for the last 24 hours with no luck and need it fixed quite urgently
I have a Sony Ericsson Play, android version 2.3.4.
The microphone on my phone is rather strange, I can call people no problem, they hear me no problem but if i try and record my voice with a voice recorder there's absolute silence. This led me to backing up all my data and restoring my phone to factory settings hoping it was a glitch that would go away - it didn't.
So i reset my phone and it seems like it has been reset to a previous update to what I had before. I'm unsure of what update I had previously but one thing that has changed is that I no longer have the Google Play store but have the rubbish old market with hardly anything on it. Also my phone doesn't detect any of the apps that are stored on my SD (they're still there the space is taken). This is rather frustrating as I use apps such as Whatsapp a lot and I'm unable to use it.
Another major factor in my issue is that I bought my phone in the UK, had the updates done there and I am now in China. I plugged in my phone and tried updating it using the Sony Companion software but it tells me this is the most recent update (which it isn't). Same thing on the phone when I try and update it in the settings. I tried using a VPN on both my phone and laptop and 'locating myself' in the UK but it still says this is the latest update.
Can anyone offer any solution or advice that could help me regain what I had before. I've been searching all over the internet trying to find a solution with no luck.
Thanks for any help anyone can offer I really appreciate. Any questions just ask. Step by step solution would be excellent
Before/Now
So about a day ago my phone got stolen. Now the phone in question had an utterly obliterated screen of which rendered it completely useless for now. However i am more interested in the sd card rather than the phone it self. When trying to ping it with Android Device Manager it just says that the location is unavailable so there seems to be no internet connection.
So i tried installing Android Lost through the Play Store and pushing a message with the command "androidlost register" to no avail. So by this time i assumed that the SIM card had been plucked out and done for. But i tried pushing another text message earlier today to it with the same command but this time with delivery reports enabled. And i got a message that said that it'd been delivered.
So this has to mean that the sim card is still in there and the phone is still on but no internet connection right?
Now is there any way to have Android Device Manager notify me whenever it comes online? My operator has a feature where i can enter the IMEI and lock the phone through that. But what kind of lock would that enable? Is it just like having the phone locked down with a pattern lock? Also could it affect the sdcard? If so then in what way? How is .nomedia files treated on Touchwiz own gallery app and file explorer? If this guy has left the SIM in then i can undoubtedly also assume that he has left the sd card in as well. Is there any way at all to wipe and or pull the files from the sd card? I'm ready to do pretty much anything even if it requires to hire a blackhat who'll get this **** done for me. I don't think what kind of phone this is really matters but it's an S4 LTE running CM11 with a six number code enabled, this isn't really something that's he's gonna get through if he fixes the screen is he?
As for now it seems that the phone is turned off since i am no longer getting delivery reports and my kik messages are just not getting through.
If this is way too much then i'd appreciate if someone could point me in the right direction of where someone might be able to help me.
First time posting here so if the thread is in the wrong place feel free to move it.

In Sony xperia m4 aqua after a reboot the mobile strangely gone into "PROTECTED" screen and I tried to Authenticate using the gmail account which i gave when i am configuring the mobile for the first time. But the authentication says "invalid mailis/password", the gmail account login credentials are correct only. With no hope i found no solution to this problem even after resetting my phone. I hope the problem is caused by Android device manager or my xperia service. Kindly suggest me some solutions..
ps: i have attached a screenshot.
OMG! I got the same hereeeee! I've asking all around this but it seem no body cant fix it
I did factory reset, but it still there, I delete device on MyXperia on website, but nothing change
Someone please help!
Well, actually I accidentally wiped my device from my PC via the myxperia site and got into the same screen. Firstly I scared a little when I chose Authenticate I also got "wrong username/password" but after I connected to my wifi with Wi-Fi settings and chose Auth. again, I was able to give my google account creditentals and my phone rebooted ang started fine again.
Sony introduces my Xperia Theft Protection (MXTP) feature on Xperia M4 Aqua, C4 and Z4 Tablet that's why this happened.

What triggers Lockdown stage?
Firmware repair using PC Companion or any other FlashTools.
Doing a full factory/master reset.
Deleting the Google account used for enabling MXTP on the device.
Disabling MXTP in the settings menu and providing false details of Google account.
Removing the administrator rights of MXTP or deleting it.
Triggering Lockdown using MyXperia in a web browser (with the correct login credentials).
How to exit Lockdown stage?
Sign in with the Google account which was used at the time of enabling the MXTP.

As the guy said above, did you try connecting to Wi-Fi ? As the failed username/password issue got resolved when he connected to Wi-Fi
Exit lockdown using a Wi-Fi connection.
Most common scenarios:
• You have performed a master reset of your device
• You have performed a software repair using PCC or B4M
• You have erased your data using My Xperia in a web browser
To unlock:
Tap Wi-Fi settings in the lockdown screen > Connect to a Wi-Fi network and tap the back button > Tap Authenticate in the lockdown screen.
The following authentication is exactly as it is using a mobile data connection.
Good to know: If you tap Authenticate without connecting to Wi-Fi network you see a prompt informing you that you need to have a connection.

Official support can help you out
Same here. Even tried 1000 times to authenticate. I can take my phone ring from MyXperia site but can not do authentication. I have to send my device to Sony warranty center. What a day!
Google two-factor authentication
To the people not able to authenticate with their google account. Is it possible you have set up your google account with two-step verification and the Sony lockdown mechanism isn't compatible with this? Have you tried turning the two-step verification off?
Disabled 2-step verification already but still stuck with that kind of suck. Damn it.
I even dont use 2-step verification
Posted on talk.sonymobile.com yesterday but when checking today, the topic was gone... Wonder there is some critical issues with MXTP that Sony want to hide.
Got a replacement
Hey Guys, after a long fight I got a new sony xperia m4 aqua as a replacement for the old one. I will disable the mxtp this time and hope that it will not occur again...

i have same problem.
if you got the solution then help me.
there is no solution to this problem. my xperia theft protection software is causing the issue from the server itself no matter how many time u try using the correct username or password it will always reply the same incorrect username or password. sony is preparing an update to fix this issue from phone as well as from their server. so guys have to wait for it for a week as said by the service provider or get your handset replaced by the service center.
Did anyone get a fix for this, what did the service centre say when you approach them. Went to lock-down mode day before yesterday , guest mode was working till yesterday now that too is not accessible.
I have the same issue since yesterday.... M4 aqua dual-sim. Just called Sony support. Conclusion: I have to send it back to Sony repair. Bummer.
I just can't believe they made such important software that's sort of bricking your device.
Update: I got it working again! WARNING: this trick will hard reset your device, and might - might not work for you!
Steps to take:
- install Sony PC Companion
- goto Support Zone
- open Update...
- in the popup, click on the link with repair.... (sorry, I have a link in Dutch so I don't know the english text)
! you may need to attach the phone to the computer
- select you device (in my case an Xperia M4 Aqua Dual)
- now follow the instructions given by the software
....but then
I got the MXTP back, but all text was Chinese... OH NO!
Luckally I knew the top button was the Repair button. So, after setting up a Wifi connection, I could enter the Google username/pwd and this time the software recognized my Google account and the device unlocked itself. Hoera!
- then followed the device setup....
I hope this will work for you to. The only other option is to send it to Sont repair.
Yah, I'm just wondering my ZTE ZMAX Pro z981 is randomly rebooting.. seen it when it's on the charger and when it received a phone call today on ATT.. ?
I mean I figure it must be just bad hardware or background programs that I disabled? cause I dunno.. I figured I might try a factory reset and see it's better.. don't know if that will mess up my unlock but I'll assume it'll be unlocked as well after?
I have not given it root or even put on a rom.. this is just mostly the default software that doesn't have a update as far as I can tell..? I disabled some background programs via the utilities for programs in android.
There is no legit root for the Z981 Metrobloat float.

Don't brick your phone trying right now. Now t worth it. Now as far as the problem this phone has aside from that is the open firewall, I recommend hitting up the app store and loading the free "No Root Data Firewall" I swear it's like the only app that's free that actually does something great. It locks the wall in with the VPN, you will have to grant it permission to do so, and deal with it nagging you for a daycorcso until all the appropriate apos have auto access but it will put an end to the reboot issue your having fr sure

Hey all. I originally posted this in the Mate 9 forum inadvertently but meant to post it here.
My wife and I both have the Mate 10 Pro. She lost hers at work several days ago. I located it using the Find My Device app. I also locked it so nothing in it was compromised just in case she didn't find it. She ends up finding the phone and can't unlock it. She brings it home for me to take a look at and I notice that I can't even input the whole password before it shows up as invalid. Apparently the input limit is 16 characters and the password I used when locking it remotely was 17 characters. I offered to factory reset it for her but she said no because she has a bunch of pictures on there she doesn't want to lose. Basically, her cloud photo storage is full and the last month and a half of pictures haven't been backed up. Is there anything I can do to at least retrieve her photos?
Has it ever been connected to a PC and ADB permission granted? If so connect to same pc and pull the content you want to back up. Otherwise it might be a question for Google. Also factory reset may not work in it's locked state due to recent Android anti theft measures.
Sent from my HUAWEI ALP-L29 using XDA Labs
Thanks for the reply. The only time it's ever been connected to a PC was using HiSuite to back up the phone before a factory reset a few months ago. I just feel bad and was hoping to fix it. I did post up a question on the Google help forum and haven't received a response. I guess I'll just give it several more days and if I can't figure out a resolution, I'll just factory reset the phone and see if I can at least get her phone back to her. I don't think she cares for the battery life of my old HTC 10... Thanks again.
If the password is too long then make her request a password change bro it's common sense.
I appreciate the input. I will try again when I get home but I'm almost positive you can only set the password one time through the "Find My Device" app. Once it's set, there is no changing it.

I think It uses the same password as the google account that locked it. also try to log in on another phone or computer and try to see if you can unlock it, also the limit is 100Characters for google password So I don't think that's the problem.

So, just for the sake of clarity, I'll explain in more detail. My wife never uses a screen lock or password on her phone. When I "secured" the device using the Find My Device app, I put in a password to lock it. That password is 17 characters long. When the phone boots up, it asks for a password. The problem is, the phone will not allow me to input more than 16 characters. I tried truncating the password and that doesn't work either. I've tried her google password and it's a no-go. I've tried connecting it using the HiSuite software but the software doesn't see the phone. I've asked on the google help forums and haven't received any response.
Currently, my wife is using an old phone and I'm trying to find a workaround. Using the Find My Device app right now and it doesn't see the phone, so there is no option to relock with a different password (don't think that is possible anyway).
I have tried to do the same thing on my phone now and it is asking for the unlock PIN, the same PIN what I use after restarting the phone.
So, I can not believe that your phone does not accept that PIN/password because the password can be up to 32 characters long.

yea something seems fishy here OP must have stole it or found the phone and the real owner have it locked it, so there's "supposedly" his wife is the owner of the phone she is the one who locked it first so I don't see the problem with her unlocking it because to lock it it must be done from a computer or a different phone.

Thanks for the accusation. You sound like a fun person to be around. I, me, myself, locked the phone through "Find My Device". I only did that because she did not have any type of screen lock/password/PIN on the phone. Once the phone was rebooted, "Find My Device" couldn't even locate the phone again. As far as the other comments about password length, all I can say is I locked the phone with a password (using my computer) that was 17 characters long and when typing said password into the phone, as soon as I hit the 16th character, the phone said invalid password. Apparently I'm not the only person that's had this issue...

To everyone else, I appreciate the help. I just ended up wiping it. My "wife" isn't too mad at me. Just lost a bunch of pictures of our kiddo.
