[Q] USB 3 Forced to USB2 after 10 mins - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 5

Hi Guys, I am tethering using USB3 Mode, and PDAnet+
Iam rooted (thx to chainfire) and running stock rom. Does anyone know how to bypass this feature? I noticed it also charges faster when used with USB3 on a PC, which helps when tethering with torrents on T-mo, and i have slightly lower latency.
What happens is a popup appears, forcing the phone back into USB2 mode after 10 minutes. Very annoying.
Any Ideas? Thanks guys.

If your laptop has only USB 2.0 ports, it will run at that speed. There's a saying when it comes to electronics: "Your device will only be as fast as your slowest component." So the USB 3.0 wire will slow it's speed to the 2.0 if all you have is 2.0 ports.

How did you get it to tether on USB 3.0?
I can only use USB 3.0 when just transferring files and whatnot, but as soon as I hook up tether, it defaults to USB 2.0.
Currently using Alliance Rom ver4.0 and sent PM to Beanstown but he is to busy to reply if its something with the ROM or something I need to check in my settings.
Would like to use the USB 3.0 on tether and see what speeds I really get. Currently getting 12Mb down and 11Mb up over Tmo. Gaming (COD and Titanfall) are pretty good with unlimited data. No throttling so far and I used 27GB last month (September 2014) doing gaming. Not brave enough to try to torrent anything at all.
Anyone have any ideas on this?

By default it switches out of usb 3.0 mode if no activity (file transfers) are taking place after 10 minutes.

Was gonna eventually make an xposed module to default to 3.0. Guess I'll remove the time out of ten minutes too. Can't tell ya when I'll have it done tho.

He's using PDAnet+ that's how. That's a third party paid app.

[Q] Random dropped data (3G)

Ok, so I do not have internet at my house so my phone is my primary internet source via Wired Tether 1.4. Normally I can stay connected to data(3G) for about 30 to 45 minutes and then it will just shut off. Then when it shuts off I just pull down the notification bar and put it in airplane mode for a second or two then data restarts fine. I use my data heavyish if you want to say. (Youtube, XDA, Facebook, email and everything else you normally do) My signal is a solid 2 bars. I have tried *228 opt 1&2 and also swapping radios. Did not seem to help. Could be signal but just not to sure considering I can DL around 1mb/s
If it makes a difference I'm using Shed's 2.0 GSB w/2.42.01.04.27 radio and conaps unreleased kernel which generaly I keep oc'd at 729
It isn't a giant issue, its just kinda annoying.
Also I've attached the speedtest.net results for proof of speed.

I have a lot of experience with tethering as it was my only home internet for about six months until several weeks ago, finally (thank the lords of cobol - ugh, did I say that).
I have tried just about every snake oil imaginable to get tethering to work better, including switching back and forth from wifi to wired tethering. Sometimes it seemed for a while that one (usually WIFI) would work better than the other, but that would only last so long, too.
The longest I hardly ever had a problem with it continuously connected was actually about a week straight if I remember correctly. That was the best I ever had. The worse was disconnects every few minutes, or just as soon as I continued interrupted downloads after re-tethering.
My favorite and most common snake oil was using an app called APN OnOff to reset the APN to default. For practical purposes, it probably effectively did the same thing as you using Airplane mode, which I thought I had tried but I didn't think it worked as well for me, or even at all. Even after using APN OnOff, most of the time I had to reboot as well.
I had tried one without the other and it seemed like it required both for my tethering to work "reliably" again. I use that term loosely, of course.
I was using over 30GB per month data at my highest tethering use, and it was probably only that "low" because of the frustration and difficulty in depending on it.
I download A LOT so it really sucked at times, but it was better than dial up...sometimes.
I will say that one definite improvement was using Cyanogen Mod (v6.x and above) based ROMs which have support for built in WIFI tethering widget and using apps off the internet to use CM's built in wired tethering as well. These are implemented differently than the "old" Wired and Wireless tethering for root apps.
I highly recommend you explore them. One major difference, for me (and I tethered to two computers, my own and my girlfriends) was just how fast even the wired tethering would connect to the computer once I started it, versus wired tethering for root. Wireless tethering also turned on and off and actually connected much faster.
If you've never wireless tethered before, in my experience if you're going to depend on it at home constantly like I did, I kept it plugged in constantly anyway because it used a LOT of battery, and I also took the battery cover out (besides taking the Eris out of my body glove case I use) and kept a fan blowing on it to keep it's temperature down.
If you do decide to try this way, like I said, CM6.x+ includes "notification power widgets", which are widgets built into the pull down notification bar. They include a WIFI tethering widget but for some reason not a wired one. There is an app on the market called "Tethering Widget", though, which has both single widgets and widgets for both functions, in case you decide to try it's tethering ability.
Edit: I'm half asleep so forgive me for not paying attention that you're already on a CM7 ROM just like me, much less that I know you've been active in the GSB thread recently.
Lol sleep is a must for most if us. Idk, like I said its not that big a deal. Its just rather annoying. Expecially when trying to download junk. I'm familiar with wireless tether for root and my thoughts are that is a useful app when "out and about". But for home use I don't prefer it at all do to the heat and it seems that over a session of use it looses its speed. Almost as if its idling down. That is majorly why I prefer wired tether. Cool battery and it maintains speed. Idk. I guess it could also be some code somewhere that prevents extended periods of use OR it could be just the limitations of the phones hardware. Might have to run logcat and see if I can get anything to come up on the disconnect. Can wt and lg be ran at the same time? Guess we'll see.

What's lg? If you're talking about two different methods of tethering, no. You can have as many ways of tethering installed at the same time, but you'll only be able to actually use one of the ways at a time. Let me know if you try Gingerbread/CM7's native tethering instead of the "for root" apps and if it treats you any better, as it did me in general.

[Q] Download Speed Test

Hi
My connection using both SGS2 Hotspot and usb tethering seems very shakey and I suspect that it falls out of connection in spikes now and then.
I have run a couple of speed tests which give varying results. But is there a software or somewhere online I can run a prolonged constant test of my connection to determine if it drops and loses connection?
Thanks for any advice.
Hm... I tried that and mine is running on 6,3 - 6,7 MB/s via data connection (usb tether)... Didn't try WiFi tho....
So it's not really worth to talk about my results...

[Q] WIFI Tether Slow in ICS

I am running ICS in a Thunderbolt with radios 2.02.00.1117r (CDAM) & 0.02.02.1211r (LTE) and Build number 7.02.605.06 710RD (debloated rooted ICS official ROM). I noticed that the Wifi Tether is working extremely slow (Download:1.5mbps) however when doing a speedtest from the phone it is very fast (Download: 20mbps-26mbps)
I tried several combination of other ROMS and different radios (all of them) and Wifi Tether is behaving the same way.
Anyone having the same problem? If so, how did you solve it?
Wifi Tether is running with the following settings:
Device-Profiel: Generic ICS/JB (wlan0)
Wifi driver reload: Checked
MSS Clamping: Checked
Routing Fix: Checked
Disable Wake-Lock: checked
Any help will be appreciated.
Disable mss clamping and change the device profile to rezound. Those are the settings I use and it never goes that slow. Speed tests also aren't very reliable sources of information. They will give you different results every time.

Stop doing a speed test. The results are probably false. Unless you have the WiFi power consumption setup to use less power on your tablet.

Thanks. However when i do my speedtest in a wifi fios service i get consistent speeds of 88 mbps to the same server on the same tablet under the same conditions.
Stopping speedtest is NOT a valid response.
Any more suggestions from anyone else?

So you're saying that when you speed test the tablet using fios powered wifi you get 88mbps and you expect the phone to tether at exactly the same speed. The reason I'm telling you to stop speed testing from your tablet when connected to the phone tether is because the speed test can't tell just how fast the speed between the phone and tether is. You'll never get a consistent result because of that. Also, the tether isn't going to come even close to what you can get at fios and I can see why it seems so slow compared to that. I tether my phone to my tablet everyday and I always get equal download speeds using real tests such as downloading a large file. Not by speed testing the connection.

I think you did not understand my posting. I test speeds IN THE PHONE and they are about 18mbps, however when tethering and web browsing, the tablet is very slow. Speedtest in the tablet is less than 1mbps. Difficult to watch netflix on my tablet with that connection.

I know your speed test ON THE PHONE is up to 20. WHAT I'M TELLING YOU IS THAT THE SPEED YOUR TABLET TESTS AT AFTER TETHERING TO YOUR PHONE MAY NOT REPORT TO SPEEDTEST CORRECTLY. Did you gather what I'm trying to tell you now?

---------- Post added at 02:50 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:44 PM ----------
Example: When I use WiFi with my ps3 and test the connection I get 12 down and 1.5 up everytime. Once I tether even over 4g it shows 1.5 down and doesn't show anything for up usually. It get on average 30-35 down with 4g in my area and 18up on a good day. I will test this tonight with my tablet and screen shot the results for you so you can see that speedtest isn't accurate on the secondary connection.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk 2
I've seen the same and can confirm the speeds should be equal. Tethering should pass thru whatever speed it's getting regardless of what you're sharing your bandwith with.
Have you tried testing from any other devices?

[Q] Please Help w/ 2 Deal Breaker Issues Charging Issue and Background Apps Closing

I have tried finding answers on my own but I haven't been able to find anything that has worked on the Meanbean forum or anywhere else. I'm obviously on the latest Meanbean Rom.
My issues:
1. When I am in my vehicle using Waze for navigation (the issue would likely happen no matter what I'm using for navigation but I haven't tested it) I either get a pop up alert that my phone is using more current then the charger can supply or I don't get the alert and my battery percent drops a couple percent every couple of minutes, eventually my phone goes dead on a long drive.
I have tried the following with no success: OEM Charger, multiple aftermarket 1 and 2 amp chargers that were hacked (so that phone allows AC Charging instead of the limited USB charging) and unhacked, changed governors/kernels to power conservative versions, removed any overclocking, kept phone cool and out of sun, and wiped/clean installed Meanbean.
2. When I go running and turn on my workout tracking application (Runkeeper) and then I try to turn on music, Runkeeper shuts off. This same issue happens no matter what application I use, if I'm listening to music and turn on the flashlight, the music application quites working in the background. I have also duplicated this while driving by running torque and then opening any navigation application, Torque quits, or whatever is not being focused/interacted with in the front of the screen is terminated (or crashes for all that I know). I have duplicated this with almost every application that I run and the same thing happens, the background application is terminated.
I have tried the following with no success: I have flashed the Meanbean Rom zip that allows users to create a white list of applications that shouldn't be terminated. I didn't input the entire application name but according to the instructions, using just "waze" or "runkeeper" should work the same. I have also tried changing governors/kernels, adjusting multitasking memory settings, wipe/fresh install of Meanbean, and I have also used the application Pimp My Rom to keep the specified application in memory using a tweak in the application.
If anyone has any suggestions for either of these issues I would greatly appreciate it. At this point I don't know what to do; I'm getting ready to drive cross country and the charging issue will be an absolute deal breaker and I also go running everyday and not being able to listen to music while tracking my run is also a deal breaker.
Have you tried an aosp rom? That should at least fix the closing apps, and maybe the charging issue too. If you look for one with a Fast Charge option, that would be something to try also...I know Carbon has it, not sure which others do
Sent from my EVO LTE
Have you tried it in another vehicle, charging that is, maybe the outlet in your car can't output enough juice and it isn't the charger at all. I know when I stay in hotels, a lot of the lamps with an outlet show that they can only output .5 amps. Just another suggestion to try. I run waze in my Jeep and it charges fine with a cheap BB charger with MeanBean.

Yeah, I think so...pretty much every aosp rom for our phone is built from cm source (if not all) and I've been using several of them as daily drivers for a couple of months. Try using the komodo kernel also, as tl stated above the fast charge functionality is part of it, not the rom...plus it's just an all around badass kernel.

I'm using yours right now but I'm still having the same problem for some reason. Is there something I'm not doing right when using your kernel on meanbean? Is there a trick to using the white listing built into meanbean when using your kernel?
I'm also wondering if the charging problem is related to the power output of my vehicles cig lighter since someone earlier suggested that could be an issue but I also have my doubts since my truck has 110 volt plug built into it and I have the same issue if I use my house charger...
Did you enable fast charge? If you use kernel tuner you can enable it in misc menu. Also with kernel tuner there is a menu oom adjust that and see if it helps there are many options and 2 of them being multi tasking.

[Q] extremely slow USB transfer speeds

Hello,
Like the title says, I'm getting extremely slow transfer speeds with my USB connection ~1 Mbps. previously it worked fine got speeds like ~9-10 Mbps. but somewhere along the road this issue started occurring.
I've changed many roms, currently using CM10.2 nightly. did a clean install with complete factory/data wipe, reinstalled USB drives but still same issue. Also i use wondershare mobilego and it is also having trouble connecting, always says the device is sleeping.
Can anyone point me in the right direction as im lost with this one?

try a diff kernel like 'Dorimanx v9.41' and see if it helps u
Nightlies can have some pretty strange errors. But are you transfering big files or lots of small files? i.e. Transfering 300 files making up 1GB will take longer than transfering 20 files making up 1GB.

actually i've always been using CWM recovery. Previously it was some v5.x and when this issue occurred (dont know exactly when or why), later i updated to v6.0.3.8 . so i doubt changing kernel would help, but i might try it as a last resort as i dont want to waste too much time on it.

yes I know this one but even with a 2Gb file transfer rate is only 1Mbps max. it took hours to transfer my data to sd card, same on internal mem. i've also tried a lot of nightlies including CM 9.1, 10.1, 10.2 and various others, but still same..

Could also be USB issue. Try a different USB port, preferebly the one on the backside of the motherboard.

Ok. so i updated the kernel to Kernel_Dorimanx-V9.41-[15-19]-[23-09]-JB-SGII-PWR-CORE . Now the transfer speeds are ok. 8-12 Mbps and wondershare mobilego can also successfully connect. It also comes with a lot of tweak options and display colors are much more vibrant now.
