Hello. Can someone please help me?
I am trying to install the ViperX 4.0.7 on HOX (endeavoru) with CID: O2_102 and HBOOT: 1.39
I flashed Alex-V 2.7 kernel and installed via TWRP recovery, but I got stuck at the HTC logo.
If there is no way I can install this ViperX, or can I flash CM11? If yes, then what kernel and recovery do I need for CM11?
Thank you!
Are you S-On or S-Off? If S-On, you have to extract the boot.img and flash it via fastboot. I'm also thinking that since that kernel development has been discontinued, it might not support the newest ViperX rom. In the kernel thread, members mentioned it worked with 4.0.6, but no mention of 4.0.7. Might be best just to stick with the recommended ViperX boot.img until you know you got everything working.
As far as CyanogenMod, please refer to the official thread for your phone here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2583037
This has the install guide, as well as a link to their recommended recoveries. Most likely TWRP will work as well, though CM team always promotes CWM as that is what they build and test with. Reading through some of the user reviews though, seems like you might want to be wary of CM11 as it has some various issues for certain people. Might want to glance through some posts and make sure those issues won't affect how you want or need to use the phone.

I'm currently S-On, but I think there might be a problem with the CID number. I don't know if S-Off is possible on my HOX. I will try later today another kernel and get back to you.

I'd already looked into that possibility and it was confirmed in the thread CID didn't matter, but the bootloader does and you are on a compatible one. Issue sounds to me like you just tried to install the kernel with TWRP, which you can't do with most HTCs with S-On.

Thanks for your help! I got ViperX working on my phone. :good:
Sweet! You're welcome. You just had to fastboot the kernel then, right? Just in case someone else with your issue finds your thread.

Yeah, pretty much. I was hoping to get sweep 2 wake feature that's why I flashed the other kernel. But the boot.img from the ViperX zip solved the problem. Thanks!
One of these should work for that:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2588449
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2136731
Looks like for some you have to wipe caches then flash the zip for modules in recovery and fastboot flash the boot.img. Make sure to check for the devs exact install guide though because they can be different.

Hello,
I updated my Evo to the 1.22.651.3 software version and then got it HTC unlocked. Is there a way to get S-off from HTC unlocked? If so, which guide do I use? All the guides I can find seem to suggest that if you updated to 1.22.651.3, then you can't do S-off at this point.
Thanks for your help.
Correct, you can't get s-off.

Ok, thank you. Mean-Rom 3.5 and higher uses a new base and apparently without s-off I can't update past 3.4. I've tried a coupe times and get a black screen. Is there any work around for s-on phones trying to upgrade to a ROM with the new base?ne

Yes you can. You need to know the limitations of your bootloader.
You are trying to boot the ROM with the wrong kernel

Oh, I see. It's h boot 1.15. Thanks for the link. I should be able to figure out how to flash the kernel separate but where do I extract the kernel from the ROM? And will flashing the kernel ahead of the ROM do the trick? even with the new base?
Thanks a ton. Sorry for the noob stuff.

The kernel is in the boot.img. Open up the ROM and copy the boot.img to your adb folder if you are doing the fastboot method.
You can do it before or after the ROM flash, but the ROM wont boot till you have both
Hey guys, I love the EVOLTE so far, but sense is slowing it down way to much, so I'd like to get CM10 nightly on it. A few questions:
1) I'm on Hboot 1.9, so I assume I can't go S-OFF yet, can I install CM10 with S-ON?
2) What do I need to do first before I can reach these steps? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=29417266&postcount=1397

My best advice is to read the information posted, read the how to's and read threads where people have failed, this is the best way youre going to learn, videos can help but often times the person assumes you have some knowledge and that causes problems. dont youtube anything without learning what you can here
I honestly think the best guide on the net for what you need to know is posted here

I'm on hboot 1.9 s-on running synergy. What I did was first unlock the phone through HTC dev... Once unlocked I then dled twrp 2.2.0 and flashed the IMG through fastboot. After that did a nandroid backup and then flashed latest version of supersu through twrp to gain root access. I then dled Flash Image GUI (playstore app) which this helps for flashing kernals instead of doing through fastboot. When done flashing whatever kernal for watever Rom you choose which I'm sure cm10 you then go into recovery and flash the Rom like normal. One thing though I remember reading something about flashing a aosp or aokp kernal over a sense one could brick ur phone but look into that and you'll be all set. Hope it helps.

Hello everyone!
I recently purchased a Rezound and I want to jump into rooting/modding it. Im coming from the Samsung Fascinate, and that thing was super easy to root. I've searched the forums here but I just couldn't find a root guide. I want to flash Infection rom but I really don't know how to go about it. I don't know what this s-off and s-on business is about and I don't want to do anything to my phone without further research to prevent bricking my device. My software number reads: 3.14.605.13 710RD. I am running stock android 4.0.3. Could anyone please send me in the right direction to go about flashing custom roms on my new device? Thank you!

Thank you so much! i successfully installed infection rom and am using it with s-on buy flashing the boot.img after flashing the rom. i think i will stay away from s-off for now, but thank you again for your help
I was on the same OTA as you. Unlocked via HTCDev, flashed recovery in fast boot and superuser. From there you can flash ROMs while s-on. I went a step further using the unlimited.io website and got s-off.
If you stay s-on you need to have a computer to flash the boot.IMG from the ROM you want which is the kernel.

hey again guys, i just have a few questions.
Say if i were to want to flash a newer version of infection rom, would be okay to just wipe cache and dalvik then flash the newer version unless instructed by the dev to wipe everything? Also, since I am currently s-on, will i have to flash the boot.img everytime i flash a new custom rom or update infection rom?

I always wipe everything but yea you should be OK. If you change ROMs you have to flash the boot.img. I didn't stay son long so in not sure about updates. Try it if it doesn't boot then you have too.

I use http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=37061598 its the unofficial port of cm 10.1, stang is awesome enough to build an update every fourth night. So we do flash an update zip on top of our first flash and so on
If its an update to the ROM you should just be able to flash on top of it and wipe cache\dalvik cache. the only time you need a complete full wipe is if the android version changes from 4.2.2 which android version doesn't change often OR if you start having major issues.
As far as flashing the boot.img in bootloader every update. You should ask the dev or an s-on person using the rom. I wouldn't know because I s-off'd my rezound within the first 2hours of having it

Actually, it depends on the ROM. I use EclipticRez and Snuzzo and Hawknest have it set up to create a PH98IMG file of the kernel you choose in setup, it puts in in a folder so all you have to do as s-on is navigate to it in recovery and flash. So no need for a computer.
I've had the phone since it came out and I'm still s-on. Doesn't bother me a bit.
I looked into S-off for the Rezound and I found Hasoon2000s all in one tool kit found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1696394
I also read about how there no more support for windows OS for s-off. I'm not familiar with linux unfortunately (something i have to check off in my bucket list someday). Is there any way to achieve s-off while using windows?
I did the wire trick on windows 7, I search for a guide for you on xda. I'll edit the post if I found something

You can try EclipticRez, I do believe there's a desensed option when installing but I'm not completely positive. If there is give it a go. It's really smooth and there's good, active support for it.

Hi folks,
this is my first post on XDA. I have a Sprint htc EVO 4G LTE phone which was running on JB.
Thought of root and flash with CM. So, first I unlocked the bootloader using htc dev and installed TWRP custom recovery and then rooted.
Then I flashed the stable CM 10 then flashed gapps which is compatible for CM 10 version. so far so good. oh, btw I did nandroid backup before flash and also wiped to factory reset, cache and Delvic cache.
After the flash i clicked on reboot system and I see the Cyanogenmod boot, but its stuck at that stage and I waited for more than an hour. No luck.
Thank god I did back up before this, otherwise not sure what I'm gonna do.
But, could someone tell me why it gets stuck at this point. I know some of you guys had this problem. I searched everywhere but didn't get help. I thought of posting this in android development forum, but as a newbie I can't do that.
Please help me out.
P.S: when I'm on boot screen (power button + vol down button) I see unlocked at the top but I also have TAMPERED in red color on top of that. Was this normal? or do you think that is causing the problem? and what should I do now?
If you're on Hboot 1.15+, you need to flash the kernel separately from the ROM if you're S-on. Click the link in my sig for further info.
The tampered warning at the top of the bootloader screen is normal.

You are right. I must flash the kernel and I did. guess what? It got flashed and after CM boot the next screen is language setup and my touchscreen is not responding at all...only the power and volume buttons are working..
I had a backup so thought of going back to it and I restored to it. It is not even booting up. My phone stays at htc quietly brilliant screen for long time and then splashing screen 2 times in a minute or so and then restarting automatically.
I have no clue what to do at this point.
I had Jellybam ROM saved on my sd card so I wiped my phone and flashed it. after rebooting it got stucked at htc boot screen.
I'm thinking may be the kernel doesn't support the Jellybam ROM. Is it?
How can I change the kernel?
How can I use my phone now?
does Jellybam requires separate kernel to flash it?
can you recommend any ROM's which includes their own kernel?
any help is greatly appreciated.

The stable download is an ancient version of CM. Circa 2012 ancient. IRC = Internet Relay Chat. There should be a sticky on this forum for how to setup and connect to IRC. Latest build can be found there.

If you're on the latest OTA (Hboot 2.09, baseband ending in 1210) you can only run ROM's based off the latest OTA (software version 3.16). This is due to an upgraded touch panel driver, which is why your touchscreen doesn't work. You can gain S-off and downgrade the driver so you can run AOSP ROM's, like CM.
Most Sense ROM's include a kernel installer to simplify the flashing process when S-on (MeanBean & ViperROM, to name a few). Just follow the instructions in the OP for whatever ROM you're wanting to flash.

Like I said, you can install a ROM based off software version 3.16. That will get you up and running. As far as S-off, you'll have to use Dirty Racun, which can be found in the link below.

After gaining S-off, head over to Captain Throwback's firmware thread in the development section. You can download the 3.15 touch panel driver there. The link to his thread is below.

I flashed MeanROM_3.09 and its working perfectly. Nothing wrong with it, except I felt like its not a custom ROM. I meant its nothing but htc sence with some extra. I was looking for ROM's which should be like pure google interface. ex. CM, clean ROM etc
I know I have to downgrade my firmware and S-off, but looks like my doors were closed. I'm a windows user and all the support was for Linux. (I decided to learn Linux ) I can get this done if I find any guide on doing S-off on windows.
Can you suggest any ROM's which will work on my device and which should look like pure google?
btw, I took your suggestion and tried installing ROM's based off 3.16. like JellyBam, cleanROM. JellyBam not even boot up and cleanROM having trouble with touchscreen. Not sure why.

I'm not sure what requires to flash a new ROM, so I'm giving everything I know.
Thanks and I really appreciate your help.

Viper ROM has a "senseless" opción, when you flash it you can choose in the aroma installer this and it should remove most of sense or whatever is safe so you have the stability of sense plus some kind of pure google look by choosing nova or apex... It also has a kernel installer if you are s-on, a lot of customization and great support... Check it out here:

I know I have to downgrade my firmware and S-off, but looks like my doors were closed. I'm a windows user and all the support was for Linux. (I decided to learn Linux ) I can get this done if I find any guide on doing S-off on windows.

There is another option that was recently released for Windows users with the most current OTA for S-OFF called Moonshine. You can find it if memory serves me correctly in 'Android Development' in the EVO LTE forums here.
Forgot to mention about moonshine, it is windows friendly as fas as I know...

did you check the md5? did you made a nadroid of your meanbean setup? Team Venom has their own s-n kernel installer you can try to use it here is the link: http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=9390288116658472175
edit: wrong kernel installer sorry! here is the right one: http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=9390288116658474895
per OP in Viper Rom thread: Any User having issues with bootloops, please try Venom IMG Flasher to properly install the kernel. Choose the correct version above.
*This is currently for windows users only. It also includes TWRP recovery that you can flash if needed. Download the zip...extract...and run the .exe.

Finally I got it done and using Viper4G with Nova launcher.
What I did was booted into recovery again and choose custom installation. that's it. Not sure what was the issue before, but now its working.
But, I really want cyanogenmod 10 with 4.2.2. So my search is still open. will take a look at the moonshine.
You guys are rock..prompt and very quick responses..I wish I would have do root and participate in this forum years ago

Glad you got it fixed, try to get s-off using moonshine, as far as I know is windows friendly you just have to UNINSTALL HTC SYNC, and since you already rooted and unlocked I'm sure you have adb and fastboot in your computer and that's all you need! After that you should be able to downgrade your TP driver and use all the AOSP roms, man is great and now with Halo it's even better... Good Luck!
I converted my HTC One to a google edition by flashing the ruu, changing the modelid and cid. I tried reverting to stock sense by restoring a nandroid but when it booted to Android the touchscreen did not work. When I restored the nandroid I did not change the modelid or cic but I don't think that would have mattered. Do I need to also restore the bootloader ?

You need to restore an earlier firmware. Follow the instructions in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2355814. On page 5 i posted a firmware that replaces the same partitions (other than system) that the GPe conversion changes out. If you don't want to change you MID just change the android-info.txt file to match your current MID (PN072000) and it will flash.
Good luck...if this helps let the folks in that thread know, and as always love the thanks button.

Thanks a lot. A nandroid does not backup the firmware?

No...just system and boot usually. You can grab cache and data too...but not the other partitions. Be scary always writing the firmware on restore. Mucking with firmware is risky business.
Let us know how you make out after flashing firmware!

It did not go well. I got the wifi and touchscreen working but I cannot find a truly stock rom. I found a better solution by switching to the developer edition. I now have tethering without limits.

Did you try this Rom? This is stock T-Mobile with latest update that would match that firmware package.

I am good with the develop edition no bloat or carrier branding and should receive updates faster.

Alright I had the same issue as the OP touchscreen not working but got that fixed with the firmware posted and the nandroid posted thanks.
Complete HTC newb here so apologies if its been repeated or if there's already tons of threads on it, but I can't seem to find a solid all in one revert to 100% stock thread... that said, the crack flasher in me got too antsy and I unlocked the bootloader, fastboot flashed a recovery, and put a custom 4.2.2 ROM (ViperOne) on my One. I liked stock just fine and want to go back to it now. As far as I know I didn't s-off or change my firmware or anything important, I just did those 3 things so would I be ok just flashing that T-Mobile stock zip posted above and then fastboot flashing the stock t-mo recovery? I am not a flashing newb, I know adb and fastboot and how to flash various packages.
tl;dr unlocked and flashed a custom recovery to put on a custom 4.2.2 ROM. do I need to do anything special besides flashing a T-Mobile "stock" package and reverting recovery?

I have read that, its still a little unclear.. from what I read I need to be s-off to flash stock firmware or ROMs? if not then it should be a piece of cake, I'll just do everything but the last s-off -> s-on step since I'm already s-on

You don't need to be S-On for OTA's. Only locked bootloader with stock recovery.
