Downgrade Modem to VRAMC3 - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

I am currently using the MJ9 radio and I am convinced that service and signal strength has been worse ever since. I realize I would also have to go back to Beans 22 or another older rom. I couldn't remember if I flashed I605VRAMC3 Modem or ODIN it. I assume since it's a ZIP and that ODIN wouldn't recognize it that I can flash it?

i assume inside the zip there is no .tar just meta folder and modem.img. i think since its a .zip and no .tar inside, you can flash it.

that did work thanks

nutpn - XDA member Zif posted a recovery flashable MJ9 modem that I’ve been using for the last couple of months with no problems. I’m still on build number JZO54K.I605VRAMC3, but this let me easily update my baseband version to VRUEMJ9. I feel like it gives me a little better performance than the VRAMC3 modem did… it seems like it locks onto 4G a little better and it quickly switches between 4g and 3g when I’m in an area with a weak 4g signal. I can also get a 3g signal down in the basement at work where I used to have trouble getting a data signal at all in the basement. I never did any performance tests to “prove” that it works better for me… this is just my personal belief based on the above experiences. If you want to give Zif’s zip a try, go to this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/sho...b0ad9e7bb4468139f954f703dc7bbc13#post48871165 (Zif's repackaged .zip file is at the VERY BOTTOM of his post.... it's the VRUEMJ9_zif zip file).
I would encourage anyone who tries out the zip to first verify the MD5 or SHA1 before flashing it. (Zif has them posted under the download link). Also, I can not promise that this will work well for everybody, so flash at your own risk.
Also, here’s a link to some good advice on how to properly flash the modem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=43217826&highlight=how+install#post43217826
If Zif’s and Dr. Droidberg’s posts help you out, I’d encourage you to give them a thanks.
Good luck.
:fingers-crossed:

Thankyou I appreciate it

So wait. So there is a flashable mj9 out now so We no longer have to flash mj9 with Odin?
Or do we still have to Odin mj9 firmware?
Or is this just another modem that came out recently. I haven't been on the boards for a while. Trying to get caught up on my info.

@iflip, I'm not sure if the flashable MJ9 modem would work if you were upgrading to a 4.3 ROM like N3bula, Alliance, etc... I am still on 4.1.2 running Beanstown106's build 22 ROM. I wanted to try out the MJ9 modem... and the recovery flashable MJ9 works great for me with my current setup. If I was going to upgrade to a 4.3 ROM, I would probably go ahead and ODIN flash the full MJ9 firmware just to make sure that everything was set up properly.

I just received a replacement motherboard for my VZW Note II, its on MJ9 and working perfectly. But I still want to have LL4 modem on it. The phone is OTA 4.3 rooted. Can I down the modem baseband? Thanks in advance.

Hi dr.faramroze -
It seems possible to downgrade the modem to VRALL4 ... but I don't know if everything would work properly on 4.3. I am just curious, but what would be the benefit of downgrading to an older modem? Do you think you might get better reception? If you decide to try to downgrade, I would definitely make a backup of the EFS Partition and keep it somewhere safe.
There are probably a few ways to do this.... but this might be one way to downgrade the modem--- You could try installing Safestrap recovery and and then flash the VRALL4 modem from there. I would first make backups of everything (The stock rom, efs partition, modem, etc...) and keep copies of the backups on your computer or another device if needed for later. (I would guess you could always ODIN back to stock 4.3 if things get really messed up....). Then you will need to wipe Dalvik and cache before flashing the VRALL4 modem.
(If you want to really be careful to make sure you have a good EFS backup, you could also do a secondary backup using one of these tools and save it somewhere safe).

------------------------------------
Safestrap recovery can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2704992
------------------------------------
You can get recovery flashable modems from scrosler's thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2108510
------------------------------------
Instructions on how to flash different modem in recovery were provided by Dr. Droidberg here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=43217826&highlight=how+install#post43217826
-----------------
Again, I do not know if this would work and it could mess up your device to where you no longer get service. Unless there is a clear benefit to changing over to VRA4LL that justifies the risk, it might be better to just stay with the MJ9 modem that's there already. (Also, I don't take any credit for any of these developer's work-- so I would encourage you to hit the Thanks button for each of them if their work helps you).
Good luck.

Sorry so long to reply to anyone sick. Ugh so anyway the downgrade works and I actually have data in the office and at my sis in laws. When MJ9 was installed, at the office and sis in laws I would have the same bars and signal strength but intermittent to no data at all. The worse part about the office if I literally walk 4ft away I have full signal strength and 20meg download. I'm behind a kitchen and a cooler, plus sorta underground. To my knowledge MJ9 is required for any 4.3 roms or you'll lose bluetooth and Wifi. A buddy of mind's wife has a locked unroot note 2 with signal issues and Verizon told him they are having tower issues.

Help! Noob Installed KG6 Modem on AT&T U.S. Phone

Well....I think I might have done something really stupid. It should be obvious at the moment that I didn't understand completely what I was doing.
I just picked up my SGSII today from AT&T. In reading around I had hopes of a new ROM as I was very happy with CM on my captivate....unfortunately while in the process I followed instructions from an (obviously) european version of the phone and installed the KG6 modem....now I have no data connection.
I'm feeling really foolish...is there any way that I can get the stock modem for the AT&T U.S. Galaxy S2? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Anybody? My phone is completely non-functional at the moment.
I've learned my lesson; I'll leave the modding to the more adept, I just need to get my phone back.
Try the stock plus root rom for odin/heimdall and that should over write the modem you flashed

FYI, you shouldn't expect rapid replies on a Monday morning.
The modem is currently missing from my "unbrick" packages, but this is an omission. I'll dump modem.bin tonight and post it up in my unbrick thread.
insaneturbo13 is not correct - as I said, my stock unbrick package is currently missing the modem.bin file. I will correct this tonight.

What would be the easiest way, If possible, to install european ROMS on the ATT version? Maybe, install the ROM without their kernel and modem and replace them AT&T's ?

I got all excited when my brother got his gs2 and I flashed a euro rom before I realized what I had done. I used entropy's stock package to get him fixed. Then he calls me from home and starts *****ing about how he can't use data unless he's on wireless. I put 2+2 together.
I am, like the others here, super eager to get that modem file when you post it. It would be a huge help. If it's not too much work on your part entropy, could you post a cwm version of the modem as well? I'd rather not have to flash him back to stock again just to fix the modem.
He's an iphone expat so I'm trying to make his android life smooth as possible.
I'm going to get home around 6 PM Eastern.
Initially I'm going to post up a Heimdall (and hopefully also Odin) flashable image of just the modem binary for those in a hurry, then I'll work on a CWM zip (need to find a reference one to pick apart in case it's different from the Infuse), then I'll upload a new more complete "unbrick".
Thanks for the donation cgrums.
OK, here's an emergency flash package for modem recovery - http://www.multiupload.com/JTFK1K1FOA
It's just a little too large to be an XDA attachment, sorry if multiupload is a problem for you.
It contains both a raw modem.bin, and a .tar file containing modem.bin (yes, redundant!)
It is NOT a CWM-flashable ZIP. Repeat, do NOT try to flash this ZIP in CWM. Seriously, it won't work!
The following method for flashing the modem IS tested:
Unzip the attached package
Use Heimdall to flash from the command line
Code:
heimdall flash --modem modem.bin
The following method for flashing the modem should work but is NOT tested:
Use Odin to flash the contained .tar file, using the Phone slot for the .tar
Man, before I even leave work! Awesome! Thanks again!
I made an error above - I believe in Odin, modem has to be in the Phone slot not PDA.
As I said in the post above - Heimdall is tested, Odin is not.
As to CWM - the maintainer of the I9100 modem collection frowns upon CWM for modem flashing - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1131950&page=2 . It sounds like CWM-flashing of modems might have issues on our device, I haven't had time to investigate but right now I'm going to trust pulser_g2's judgement for until I have more time to figure out GS2-isms of modem flashing. I've got a ton of stuff to do and I'm going to drop CWM-flashing of modems in priority for now since it should rarely be needed.

I flashed the tar in odin using phone, the phone rebooted, but it will only make calls. The phone cannot use the internet when the wifi is off. Do you have any suggestions? I am going to try flashing your entire recovery image when you update it tonight.
What does your baseband version say now? If it flashed properly it should say UCKH7.
If it doesn't, it didn't flash for some reason. I know it flashes properly with heimdall, odin is kind of untested.

I had my brother do the factory reset, wiping the user data. That seemed to fix it (although we did flash your modem prior). Thanks so much!
I am happy to report that I am on my way back to functionality!
I've noticed a difference in connectivity though. At times, typically out-of-doors, I get decent signal strength and HSPA+ connection. Call service is a bit spottier than I remember it before the hijinks.
Inisde buildings is a completely different story...I can't seem to maintain a data connection of any type.
My baseband shows I777UCKH7 so I believe the flash went well. I'm planning to flash back to stock to get a good starting point going forward.
Anybody else experiencing similar issues? Thoughts?
This community is awesome!
I think someone did indicate that things were funky until they wiped - not sure though.
One click + CWM ICScrewed = in call audio problem
Hi I used your on click root kernel and then used CWM to flash the ICScrewed ROM .zip file.
Now I am having a problem where when I make or receive a call there is no audio. I still have data and wifi connectivity though it seems.
Could it be a problem with my modem? If so how do I flash another and where can I find the appropriate one?
Thanks, and sorry I cannot post on the ICScrewed page as I do not have permission to post in development yet.

I have no "one click" kernel. Any "one clicks" are repackaged by someone else and I have no idea what they contain in many cases.

[Q] Flashed Modem now no signal

I flashed my stock att modem to a custom one hoping id get 4g service on my att galaxy note sadly i now have no service. Is there anyway i can find the original modem and flash and get my service back?
You should be able to find what you need here:

If you made a Nandroid backup prior to flashing the modem, which I hope you did and should always do before flashing something new. Then it's just a matter of rebooting to recovery and doing a restore. Fast, easy solution. I'm thinking what you are missing with your newly flashed modem are just the correct AT&T APN settings. Quick search, find, and enter them, perhaps the better solution since you flashed the new modem to seek a better signal in the first place, may as well test it out. EDIT: CPA Poke's link above has this link listed http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1684711. For sure worth a look.

FYI nandroids don't backup nor restore the modem.
No such thing as a custom modem.
You just flashed a different modem, those binaries are closed source, therefore cannot be modified by us...and I'm pretty sure it would be illegal if we did.

True, but a backup's restore got me going again after I played around with modem's trying out AWS for Wind Mobile. Afterward, my SIM became unrecognized when trying to get back on Rogers with various modem flashes, all to no avail. Forgive my comment, it was late and maybe confessed the 2 different situations. But I restored my original backup of my stock gingerbread, baseband (modem) was back and sim recognized. Restored then again to my ICS based ROM I was running before playing for WInd. Then got flash happy with whatever modem in the link below. So...worked for me..

Odin flash from a PC your phones stock ROM is what I would do. Don't forget to save/backup all your important stuff first, because it will wipe everything and bring your phone back to a like new state.

Odin push is the correct method to restore service, but fully wipe the device first....g
I'll try that. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks for the helpeveryone!1

so questions are

The easy way would be going back to stock, the other way, i know that you can find modems on http://droidbasement.com/db-blog/?p=3008
One way to fix it
I've had similar issues lately playing around with installing CM10.1 and the modem getting messed up. I did use adb to make a modem.bin backup from stock ICS, but then could not figure out how to flash it. In the end what I did is flash the original stock ROM. Search for STOCK VZW Galaxy Tab 10.1 4G LTE Factory Firmware PDA_HC31_EG01Ba_AP352081user_CP1033580_LTE20110704_0708.tar
That will put it back to the original Gingerbread factory image. It will have to go through multiple OTA updates to get back to ICS. I know this is a pain to do, but my nandroid backup of the OTA updated stock ICS when restored did not restore the modem, and the modem.bin I created from instructions at mygalaxyway.blogspot.com/2012/09/how-to-share-your-nandroid-backup-and.html was kind of useless.

I'll flash again maybe it was a fluke
SCH-i905?
You have an SCH-i905?
Yea I do. No matter how many times I flash the factory stock in Odin. The radio doesn't stick
does that mean id be able to use the p4wifi rom? i dont care about the radio files i just want one of the p4wifi roms...
Id love to have the ics radio files to flash too. when I odin the stock image it fixes nothing for me.
So basically I found that my csc file is gone. The Lte factory image doesn't include it. I bet it's on purpose.
What ever the case if we get a csc file for the tab and flash it then flash radios or flash firmware then csc it should work.
That's my guess at least. What's weird is there is no factory Firmware to be found on the Samsung site for the i905. Not sure why.

Please let this happen please
So i am still researching this.
I am going to write Samsung mobile to see if they will release the firmware for the tab. I am sure it has to do with Verizon not wanting anyone to keep that i905 that rooted it or flashed the stock firmware.
I can't be the only one that is missing the CSC file after an odin stock firmware flash. and i think its very odd that samsung has every firmware i can think of except the i905.
Im just taking stabs here.
I am also assuming thats the problem, thats the one part of the /system that's missing.
it would be cool if anyone had a i905 with lte and posted their CSC file.
how would i go about requesting that? just post
"[request] CSC file for i905 galaxy tab 10.1"
i have never asked for a request before.

I have the same problem. I tried flashing modem it works fine but when I try flashing lte_modem.bin I get an error in red writing and it doesn't flash. I've tried this with every version of Odin. I used the modem files from the full Odin image. I think it was EG01. I download it multiple times nothing has worked.
k,
so if anyone is interested, i finnaly got around to digging and came up with a processes to get the modems back. its technical and i am sure i am doing something wrong cause i can't get it to get on the network. could be a lte chip at this point. anyways.ill try tomorrow
it must be rooted. go to dev settings and check debug and root accsess: apps and adb.
then download EFS professional. go to restore and restore. nothing will change.
flash original firmware with odin.
once it installs you can see your radios... this it where it stops. I can't get it to access LTE. it has correct time and knows its on the verizon network. but no lte.
I then rooted to see if i could carry my radio files to 4.2.2 and i can't. radio unknown. tomorrow i am going to go to VZW and ask them if its a bad sim. will update tomorrow or when i get around to it.
Update:
So it was a bad sim. once a new one was put in i got LTE but now it wont update. Ha one problem after another. So now i can't flash 4.2.2 cause i loose radio. I believe you have to be on ICS before you can flash to 4.2.2, anyways its been a few days and it still thinks its up to date.
So now i need to know how to force an update..... will update if anything else happens

Of course my post count is less than 10 so I can't ask those who are actually installing now. And because I'm in a rush, and the rules of the forums, I left off the title. So if you get to the bottom of this and realize you just wasted 5 minutes, sorry, thank a spammer.
do you have STOCK ROM with Odin??
Stock ROM with Odin?
You probably just need to flash MJ9 firmware via ODIN and repeat process. Read Beans (Alliance) thread or others for directions. I would probably update to the latest of TWRP though, double check that though.
It originally was stock VRALJB. rooted via Casual NO YOU method. After I rooted via casual method, I didn't replace the stock with a different ROM via Odin, but according the the threads to root, I could have just flashed new ROMs via TWRP. I was taking the advice per Adam Outler in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2045563 which he suggest don't use Odin unless absolutely necessary. And I've been upgrading my motherboard on my workstation, which is what I normally use to connect to phone. My laptop can't hold a steady connection to the samsung because of drivers, it's pretty frustrating and something I gave up since I figured out that it was just easier to have the desktop do it, but right now thats not an option because it's in pieces.
But my problem is exactly the same as this guy, post #93 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2765021&page=10
I did manage to follow the steps he used (post #99), which was to wipe, wipe, ROM, then Agni kernel. It took, and seemingly no problems. But when I go to get on wifi this morning, it wouldn't start. Trying to toggle the switch wouldn't work, and trying to hotspot it led to "error".
Thanks for helping out.
I'll look around to see if I can find the Red Beans Alliance thread. I thought maybe I needed an MJ9 FW, but I wasn't sure how to put it on (trying to stay away from Odin). That guy posted that he was coming from 4.1.2, which I was coming from 4.1.1.
thanks again.

You do need to Odin the MJ9 firmware to get WiFi working.

Yeh, that did it. My NFC doesn't work, but I'm not sure if that is a problem with the ROM itself, rather than not having proper driver and modem loaded.
Thanks again.
I did try to load the modem from MJ9 zip through TWRP, but didn't seem to work.

Well it may work once the ND7 firmware is released. From an update to the thread you linked it should be tomorrow.
Nfc works fine on the Sr MJ9 based rom I'm running.

Well the ND7 takes care of part of it. But with the ROM, then I no longer have root. And using the built ROM, I was having the same problems as others. I'll report back, I thought it might have something to do with TWRP, because even when I flashed the update superSu from Beans thread, still couldn't get root back.

[Q] Modem Trouble

So... I finally decided to update from my trusty MDK radios. I selected the NC5 modem only from Surges modem thread, and flashed from TWRP. Upon boot, I immediately noticed that I could no longer make or accept calls. Everything else appears to be working fine; i.e.4G mobile data, wifi, etc. I have since tried every modem in the OP to no avail; even the MDK modem. Still can't make or accept calls. I've tried switching to several different ROMS with full wipes. Same problem every time. What the hell happened....? Anybody.....? I've searched and searched for some sort of ODIN MDK TAR to start from scratch. Is there such a thing? All of the ODIN files I've found are for safestrap.
MDK, TWRP recovery, currently Hyperdrive 18.1
EDIT: Fixed!! I'm now rocking NC5 and my radios have never worked better. I must have initially flashed the nonhlos NC5 version. I was instructed to then install the nonhlos MDK radio to get the phone working again. I could then install the regular NC5 radio with success. I tried to find an explanation for regular vs. NONHLOS but kept coming up empty. Much thanks to the kind people on these forums that steered me in the right direction.

Yeah you got it. Nonhlos handles some mobile network data but is mostly made up of audio code. A mismatched aboot (bootloader) and nonhlos can definitely give you some weird problems though.
