[Q] File recovery, without root and usb. - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I helped my friend to get his photos from his Galaxy s3 with android 4.3 by transferring them to SD-card, but somehow the SD-card was broken so all the files were corrupted and we used Transfer not copy..... I did not manage to recover the photos from the SD-card, but i found some file recovery softwares for android but they all required root-access.
So any ideas how to recover those photos from internal memory without usb.
I did not manage to root with Framaroot.
Phones usb-port was changed to new one but still any computer wont recognize the phone...
I can promise some sort of reward for the person who manages to find a solution.

Use a file explorer to copy and paste to SD card. You will not need root unless he stored photos on root.

Yes, if those photos would show up at the file manager. but we used Transfer, so its like cut-paste. So the files disappeared and i have to find a solution to recover them. It is possibly and pretty easy if i could root.

No, because the internal memory/internal SD is only one partition of the memory chip. This means no recovery software or apps are going to help you.
Only chance is with the external card you transferred to.

I have similar problem, except i didn't cut/paste photos. Phone just did hard reset by itself, so everything is gone... I have managed to root the phone, can you tell me which solution have you found for rooted devices? I have tried with Wondershare Dr. Fone but with no luck (it even does not require root).

Theres a bunch of android software for file recovery. Diskdigger undelete (root) looks promising, but i cant test it without root. There is many software for windows too, if you can use USB, but i cant do that...Asoftech data recovery could be the solution if i could just use the usb. Yesterday i tried many different methods to get the usb working but still windows wont recognize it.
Should i just wait for Framaroot that can root android 4.3 or is that ever going to happen?

Yes, give hope of data recovery off of internal memory.
Jelly seems to think it reasonable.

Depending what version of Windows you're running fully look into drivers and uninstall/install of them (Win XP has least problems) as WIN7 onwards have had/needed workaround/install others to work.
Double check that you cannot transfer the data back to phone, they could just be compressed and transfer back with same method?
Check for which is the USERDATA partition, with a desperate SDCard using adb and a shell command, dd the partition to SDCard and recover from there.
Is the RECOVERY stock, CWM or TWRP?
Make a backup if possible and recover from there.
Hope this gives you some more options to look for

RECOVERY is stock too. Im sure that theres no hope recovering the photos from the SD-card, but maybe ill manage to get them from internal memory with some sort of software like DiskDigger, like the previous poster suggested. But i still need root to do anything, so if windows XP wont work ill just have to wait for Framaroot to update, because i tryed atleast 2 work arounds for windows 7 but the usb still wont recognize.
But thanks for your help.

[Q] Recover Internal SD

If you had the hardware and/or software to recover deleted files you MAY be able to recover some of what was on your sdcard, however, I'm betting it will take some pretty specialized equipment to recover it from a phone. Plus, it will depend on how thorough the wipe was. (On a hard drive in a PC, when you delete a file it doesn't actually remove it from the discs, it simply removes your access to it from the OS and tells the OS that the space that was previously occupied by said file is now available for a write, the file will technically stay intact until something writes over it, but requires special software to recover)
More than likely, whatever was on your sdcard is a goner....but I can't be 100% positive. If you are able to see your sdcard now via pc, you could try downloading some recover software and trying that.

ive done this before on my motocliq, and was able to recover a lot....the only thing im worried about is that often times if you format your sd card the files are recoverable, UNLESS you then place new files onto the sdcard then you can hurt your chances....im basically just hoping and praying out loud until i get home to my computer

I hear yah, I make regular backups of my SDCard to my PC for just this problem. (That and I don't store anything on my SDCard that I can't afford to lose) so I've not run into an issue with this one before. Good luck on recovery, I hope you are able to get some stuff back.

[Q] Internal Storage Corrupted

Hi all
I have a Fujitsu ARROWS X F-05D, which running Android 2.3.5. It has 4GB internal storage and supports microSD card.
I tried to format the phone’s internal storage through Windows 7, the operation was failed during the formatting process. After that, I cannot access either the phone’s internal storage or micorSD card. Both of them show “Unavailable” under Settings  Storage [Built-in storage] and [SD card]. The [Delete data in built-in storage], [Mount SD card] and [Erase SD card] were dimmed. I had performed a phone hard reset but the problem persists.
If I connect the phone with PC, windows can recognize there has USB mass storage attached and assigns two drive letters accordingly. However, if I want to access either of them, windows will ask to insert a storage media. In addition, the phone will not prompt to ask user to confirm connect the phone as a USB mass storage.
Without external storage, most apps cannot be functioned normally or simply can’t install at all. Could anyone please kindly advise how to fix it?
Regards,
Boy

Hi Jiffer,
Reflash a stock rom is a reasonable try. However, my phone is an unpopular model outside Japan, and I don't know Japanese to looking for help in Japanese forum. As such, I am unable to obtain either stock rom or custom rom for a try.
As a turnaround, I want to know how to locate the phone's internal storage and how to format it through adb.

Was a Solution ever found this problem? I have the exact same issue.
Also reflashing the rom with a stock is not an option, as it requires the internal memory to do so.

I did solve the problem at last but unfortunately forget how to fix it since my handset was damaged by water linkage after a very short period.
I only remember the problem lies on the corruption of partition table. I replaced a file (sorry, forget what file again!) through adb. After reboot, the system prompts me something wrong in the partition table and asks me to format internal storage, after that. The device resumes normal.

after format
VOILLA MY INTERNAL SD CARD GOT FORMATTED INSTEAD OF USB ONE WHICH I HAVE MOUNTED THROUGH USB OTG CABLE..
I have no backup and i have lost all my data on internal sd storage... photos, music, videos, other data such as text documents , pdf documents , tar files of recovery etc.

everything is finished..
please... it will be great of you to solve my this problem..
is there any way to UNDO this operation?? I mean can we UNFORMATthe internal storage ???
really need your advices and solutions
thanks..
Yes solution is simple.
Go back in time.
Backup data like any sane person would have done.
If your files were that important why didnt you do simple things like make backups to your PC or even just via dropbox app that automatically uploads photo's via wifi?
Try a partition recovery software.
If you cant fix I have no sympathy since its easy to make backups of needed data. No excuse really.

I did give you expert advice. I am an expert in backing up my data in case of device problem or if I somehow decide to format my card.
As I said earlier try a partition recovery software.
Expert Advice:
Follow XDA rule #1 and use search. We have many topics about users formatting cards and then needing to recover data. This is a non-device specific topic so search whole site or even google.
Well you coud try Testdisk and Photorec
the site is cgsecurity
Or option 2 try recuva with deep scan enabled, also the option to scan for lost or damaged files should be turned on.

- Connect your phone trough USB cable and activate mass storage mode
- Depending on what files are lost (probably photos and videos), look for format recover software (Like recovery my files)
- Use it on mounted SD card
PS:
If you have used some part of your internal sd card after formatting, you probably lost some files forever, if you haven't yet, DON'T USE IT BEFORE RECOVERY !!

Give some app suggestions is fine. Once we have those, we know the key terms to search for.
I've tried cg-security apps, they're made for Windows/Linux/BSD etc, but won't install on android.
I tried aidfile installed on Windows but it won't detect the phone internal storage either.
I have all my photos.
I lost a database document that is 760mb. Most backupsoftware (Skydrive, Asus Webstorage, DropBox etc) won't upload it.
I sent the phone for warranty and they formatted my phone, and lost that document. I just need that back. It is in internal storage, there is no sd card on this android.
Try Recuva but don't get your hopes up. Not likely to work. If they've formatted the phone, it's gone. Android isn't like Windoze where 'files aren't really deleted'.
Edit - Also, beware of some (all ?) of the 'data recovery' apps on Google Play. Many (certainly the several I've tried) of the non-paid versions will go through their process of checking, and tell you that your file can be recovered, but you need to get the paid version of the app. You pay for the app, and then find they tell you the file recovers OK (funny about that, right ?) but is 'corrupted' (which is basically bull****, the file can't be recovered at all, but you paid for the app so they have to give you something, right ?) & useless. This scenario is highly likely in the case of a file like the one you're talking about if you do get suckered in by those apps.
Hans Brown said:
You can't undo the formatted, but the data was not really gone, you still can use some data recovery tool to recover your photos.
You can try this guide about how to recover photos from Samsung Galaxy S II.
I recommend you backup your photos with Google Photos, it has 15GB free storage, I think it's enough for your 1 year's photos.

Accidentally deleted sdcard folder!

So I was cleaning up in Windows Explorer some junk and photos from my phone. I saw an empty folder and deleted it, it was the only folder so I then, without thinking, deleted it's parent folder sdcard. I caught myself right away actually reading the name of the folder and tried Control+Z for undo delete immediately but it's not a command that works while browsing on the DNA in Windows. I should of immediately unplugged my phone, but was trying to just undelete the folder.
So no I sit here trying to figure out if there's any hope at all for my Droid DNA and all the pictures that I hadn't saved onto my PC yet. I've tried running various recovery programs, I have the full version of Easus Data recovery, but no recovery software recognizes the phone as a drive.
I have twrp but no backups. I know as I use the phone the files are being overwritten, but is there any Droid DNA specific recovery program I can use to retrieve my pictures?
Also I have a bootable FatDog64 linux that I could use if there are recovery programs I could use in a Linux environment.
Anything is appreciated.
Thanks
How about booting into the bootloader, then make the sdcard folder (it might be a symbolic link, please correct me if I'm wrong) using adb.

But that wouldn't repopulate the old contents of sdcard. I'm looking for something like a recycler folder where I can undelete the folder. Although I think I had too much to be able to do that. The crappiest part is I have a large range of tools for recovery, but the Droid DNA's internal SDcard doesn't act like a drive in any way.
I have Windows 8 and it reads my DNA as a portable device. Can you not use your recovery program(s) by right clicking on the "sdcard" (mine calls it "internal storage" and opening you recovery program that way and then try to recover your pictures?
Unfortunately there's no way to recovery the images if you deleted them. If it was a corrupted storage there might've been some hope but in this case I'm sorry there's not.
I believe there is a app that you can download and is supposed to work like you want to recover things that have been deleted but you must be rooted. I can't remember the name of the app though.
Edit: I found 2 the first one seems better and more towards what you want. Also not sure if it works since I've never used it but reviews seem to say it works.

Lost Video of my wife giving birth

hi all,
i came here with deeply desperate. i lost video of my wife giving birth.
it happened when i move videos from internal memory to external memory.
suddenly the files in external corrupted. the files name appears gibberish
there are two method i tried for the past 3 days
1. try to recovery from external (micro sd) using MiniTool Power Data Recovery, Wondershare Data Recovery, DRW. since i turned out that sd card have bad sector, the recovery progress stuck in 4%
2. try to recover directly from the phone. i also have issue with this method. since it requires me to the root the phone.
yes, without rooting i still can use software to discover lost data, but the softwares told me if it can discovery much more data if the phone is rooted) . unfortunately i cant find rooting method without flashing the rom. i dont want flash the rom , because if i do so im afraid the moved videos will be more difficult to recover. i also try once click root like framaroot, king root/ kingo root, Wondershare Dr.Fone for Android, none of them succeed rooting my phone (Lenovo Vibe P1 Turbo)
can anyone help me to recovery the file.
or please give me alternative how to root without flashing rom
thanks in advance
Hello esutisna,
So sad to hear that you lost such a precious data from your device!!!
I know how it feels.
So you have tried many things but still there is no hope.
Now I would like to suggest you an alternative approach using your PC.
It will be best if you have windows.
Go and download Recuva
https://www.piriform.com/recuva
this is the link.
connect your device to the computer and check that your device is connected as media transfer device long for MTP.
Now start and install recuva.
On the desktop, launch the recuva again using the shortcut.
It will ask you to recover file from the path.
Select Media Device.
Then select the type of file you want to recover, in your case it is Video.
Select it and hit recover.
It will work as magic and all your lost data will be recovered.
All though there is a chance that it may not work if you have by mistake format your internal memory of forcefully rebooted the device.
Please tell me how it goes.
I will be happy to help further!!!
