Hi everyone,
Swapping my Galaxy S5 out tomorrow for the One M8.
The S5 is a great phone, but it is too locked down, and I love rooting and roming! Just wanted to say Hi, and am wondering what everyone recommends me do the moment I get my new phone.
Also does anyone know if we are getting any roms from the big guys like Pac-Man, AOKP or Cyanogen?
Any help is much appreciated!
Thanks!

Welcome !!! I did the same thing as you. I had the S5 but it was too locked down for my tastes, and honestly I think that the M8 is easily the best phone built to date. Noting really comes close IMO. As far as AOSP/AOKP goes, check HTC One M8 Development Section almost all (assuming there is at least one that won't) will work on our AT&T M8's and if there's not an AOSP/AOKP to your liking yet I'm sure plenty more are headed this way. The development so far has been great and I've only had the phone a week so far :good:

How hard is porting roms from the att HTC one x to the rezound? Please don't go to hard on me. Just was curious. Seems a lot of devs that are here also are on HTC one x. Awesome phone but sucks not having s-off and no expandable memory

I would think it would take some effort and knowledge to port a rom and have it run up to standards. So probably not that easy.
Thank you Jon. Just was curious cause I have both phones. The one x is very snappy but the rezound us alot more fun to. Dev with.

Actually i just looked and found a guide to porting a sense rom in between devices. It actually doesnt look that hard, it looks more like replacing just replacing files if anything. I think it just depends on what rom your trying too port. If your trying to port over a different sense version it might require more work. If your trying to port an AOSP rom it might not be too difficult. Porting an android version is probably the hardest.
I see. Would be nice to try figure out that stuff. I am too inexperienced to try I think. Done minor things. Was just seeing if the one xl jellybean update that dropped last night would help the devs over here.

I was actually thinking of making a very basic rom to start with like a sense 3.6 rom that might have some tweaks and such. Maybe try making my own AOSP rom, though im not entirely sure how to go about making an AOSP rom. I suppose i could also try using the guide i found to port over a sense rom as well.
Wanna share where that guide is?

I havent tried it yet, it might work.
This one may work out better

Just keep in mind when porting, it will be better as well as easier if you can port from a device similar to what you are porting too. Similar cpus, gpus, lte, screen resolution and network type. It all needs to be taken into consideration.
Personally if I was you, I'd start looking at Sprint devices if you want to port to the Rezound. Sprint and Verizon have the closest devices and the closest bands of any other providers out there.
Of course there are always tricks to getting around porting a full rom. Once you get to going and learn your way around porting real good, you'll learn what they are and how to do it. If you need an example of this, look up my AOKP + TouchWiz hybrid for the Rezound.
Edit: This thread made me feel nastalgic. I remember back when I first started porting. I worked and worked hard learning new tricks here and there. Back then I wrote a guide. It wouldn't be useful now, but if you wanted to humor me and see how this old dog did it back in the day you should check it out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1169570

Hey there community!
So my Nexus 4 had a little accident involving a ladder the other day. Let's just say this bad boy I'm currently typing on loses more and more of its screen every day, soon it'll be totally unusable.
So I'm going to be buying an HTC One off of Kijiji. Would this switch make me happy? Anyone that's been on the Nexus line or people that just love the phone, what do You think? I know development is nowhere as 'busy' and I do love the physical look of the phone, but I just want to hear your thoughts.
Also, regarding rooting and flashing... I hear you have to flash kernels through ADB or something? Is that the same for ROMs if true? I also noticed the international forum is much more active. Being a Pentaband and device, does that mean we can one flash ROMs from this forum? I'm not sure.
Also how friendly is this community ?

Well the only nexus i've had was the nexus 4 and i can say i am very happy. I have had no regrets. I dont know what you mean by key els through adb but rom flashing is done similar to all other phones, through recovery.
You mention about flashing roms from this forum, are you gonna buy the tmobile version? if not then this is probably not the best place to post. I can say the tmobile version is compatible with most (probably all) international roms. I have not ran into a rom i could not flash from that forum.

Good news to hear.
I meant kernels*. I was reading something about this "S" thing supported by this phone which makes it so you have to flash kernels over adb rather than recovery, I'm a but unclear here.
Also I am going to be buying the T Mobile version, soley for the pentaband tech, because I'll be running it with Mobilicity here in Canada. So that's more good news that I can flash from the International thread!

Trust me, you'll love it... Keep in mind the camera can be the biggest issue as some users just do not like it. I personally like it, it works for my needs... I would suggest going into the international forum for more user support (not even sure why tmobile has its own forum)...

Well, I like the wider lens. To be honest, I don't use my phone to take extreme pics, just Instagram and SnapChat stuff. From the Nexus 4 camera I think it'll be a step up. Regardless, I have my t3i for my real photography stuff .
Haha. I thought there was a difference in forums. I guess I'll stick around both here and there.

Please Scrosler, make us a version of the great CleanRom for KitKat on the VZW Note 3 . Your roms are truly the best.
Scott does not own an N3 any more, so the odds on that are low.

As a user of Scott's Clean rom 1.5-1.7(or was it 1.6) - yeah it was sad to see him go. I've been very happy with Baja's rom - looking forward to the new BeansBaja combined work.
He says he is happy in "HTC land". I have tried to create a ROM in the spirit of CleanROM but no one is interested in an MJE ROM now.

I wish he would make one more note3 build tho. The only reason i tried bajarom, was to get my chromecast allscreen mirroring to work. Couldnt get it to happen with 4.3. As soon as I figure out how to get it working on 4.3 I am going right back to his last CleanRom build. I dont really care for bajarom. It also doesnt get anywhere near the battery life I was getting with Scotts rom.
I wanted to cry when he posted that he was moving on from the note3 to the HTC. Maybe I should just get an HTC and join him in HTC land.
Thanks for your reply anyways.:good:
So would I but without a N3 in his possession it is unlikely. I have informed him about this thread.
Thanks Ronald, but like you said, without a Note3 it would be pretty difficult for him. Ive donated before to him, but not enough to buy him a Note3 tho...lol. Thanks for telling him anyways.

You are welcome. I believe he works on an HTC M8 now.
I also was extremely disapointed. I use his rom on my 10.1 note 2014 also.
Scott always has done quality work. I've used his roms all the way back to the HTC Mogul, too bad he doesn't have a Note 3.
Ive always been an HTC man and watched both live streams to decide my next phone. Im now pretty convinced its going to be the S6 Edge. The one thing thats worrying me is the development side of things with a Samsung own chip. Are they pretty good at supporting developers with documentation and such? I know when HTC went with the Tegra chip in the One X there were lots of problems with S-Off and that sort of thing. Is there likely to be any of that here or is it not a problem?
Exynos is closed source. They are not as open as say Qualcomm. Kernel is GPL so we will have custom stock kernel and ROMs. However... Cm12 and aosp is going to be hard AND buggy.
Custom stock ROM's are better than nothing, especially if you can get that bloatware out of the phone, even with a 128GB option (my GS6 Edge of choice) I still don't want all of the AT&T Bloatware and GB's of wasted space. Hiding is not enough for me.
are we gonna be able to achieve root?
it's all I'm interested in first phase, just want to remove some blootware from sammy, install a real UI and remove ads.
custom rom I can wait little more

The two biggest US Carriers always rain on our parade, sadly they offer the best coverage otherwise I would go with T-Mo just for the open nature of the devices.

You will most probably never see a AOSP based ROM for s6 I'm afraid. And if you do, it will be so bug infested that it will take months to make it a daily. Then there is the stability issue when hack building like that...
Just check the note 4 exynos page... One half functioning cm11 (kudos to the developer).
So yeah... Stock ROM, debloated with a custom kernel with kcal or something similar. I'm happy. Maybe even themed to aosp and 360dpi...
Dreams...
That sounds bad . It seems i have to think again then. Maybe if we get Samsung based Roms like echoerom i might be tempted

Root and Knox
Hey guys
One of my colleagues has a Galaxy Alpha and is kinda jealous of me being able to stream to AirPlay-devices etc because my phone is rooted. So I said that I'd help him obtain rood, but soon discovered that the Alpha is not possible to root without trashing Knox.
So... does anybody know if that will also be the case with The S6 Edge? I NEED that phone, but I also NEED root... and I'd like to keep knox...
Also, The GS2 had both overclocking and undervolting options available... do you gus reckon that that will be possible on the S6Edge ?
- Martin
If you NEED root, don't buy it until root is confirmed. No one knows at this point how hard/easy it will be, or how long it will take to achieve.
looks like Chainfire has it already;
at least he posted a link in the original dev forum.

Would be interesting to know of any developers who are at least interested in getting this phone to work on?
Hey guys, couple quick questions. Glanced over the first page, my apologies if these are super-common questions.
First, I've got an AT&T m7. I've successfully rooted and installed TWRP. Do I need to use AT&T roms only, or am I good to use the roms in the main forum?
Second, I'm coming over from the nexus 4, and mother of god this thing is, in comparison, slower than Ralph Wiggum. It's essentially the same hardware, so I don't even know how that's possible. Any recommendations? I prefer AOSP-based roms, but if it works well, I'll be happy with a phone that looks like 2011 Samsung vomited all over it.
Thanks in advance.

Are u saying the HTC is slow? Have u used sense 5 or 6 on it? Best oem skin my opinion. Mine is more fluid then any other android I ever had ( had all major flagship) .
Mine was on 4.4 before I rooted and installed cm12.1. Compared to my nexus 4, it was frustrating.
