[Q] ACER A100 Ghosting - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I have Acer A100 tablet for about 2 years now and it was working fine until this new update came and the problem started. After the update the tablet just do random stuff as someone is operating it, screen changes, keyboard appearing and typing itself and other randon app selection. This condition will not resolve unless I heat the tab by placing it front of an heater for a few seconds.
I thinks it's the update that cause it but I don't know how to go back to the old state?
Anyone with solution(s)?
Thanks,
DKMej

Some people have had that issue before, but seems weird that it it gets better with heat as that would typically indicate a hardware issue vs software. Did this happen as SOON as the update was done? Which update was it? Stock or custom?

Thanks for the reply to my question. The issue started the next day after I updated the tablet. The tablet was cold and it acted out. Don't know how to fix it?

[Q] My 3rd 80 G9 in less than a year, how's yours?

I just received my 3rd tablet in the mail today under warranty. The first one became unresponsive to the touch screen and since it was in the Texas morning sun I thought it was my fault and bought another. The 2nd one did the same thing 4 months later even though I had taken extreme care with it, I sent this one back to the factory. I had rooted both tablets and was running versions of ICS from this site. Neither was overclocked although I do have the software to do that. I'm thinking I should stay with stock OS for a while and see if the 3rd time is the charm.
Anyone else have their tablet just mysteriously stop responding for no apparent reason? Other than the screen, everything else worked including mail and internet; I just could not unlock it to read anything.

Hi There
My touch screen stop working months ago!! I'm pretty sure it's a loose connection, If I build a fresh android from source and squeeze the top of the tab It sometimes comes back to life, I should have really sent it back but I've got a heavily modified version of adb that allows me to easily send input to it and I just plug a keyboard and mouse into a usb hub. I had another one that had "ghost touches".
I found the screen doesn't seem to like temperature changes and would get very cold to the touch If had it in my bag when travelling and really the build quality is terrible but It doesn't move off my desk as it is used only for development and I'm too lazy to send it back. meh!
With regard roms. if you were using stock rooted then the only difference between them and the stock is su, and extra busybox, everything else is as archos intended there shouldn't be anything detrimental in there. If you don't need root for anything then you might as well use stock.
--Thanks for the feedback. If someone gets Jellybean 4.1 operating for this tablet, I will root it again.
I'm on my second. Three first one had a problem worth the screen where it became greyscale soon after I started playing a youtube video. The first time it happened, I was somehow able to get it working again. The second time, I tried reloading the OS (honeycomb at the time) and resetting to factory settings and was unsuccessful.
I sent it back to QVC and got a replacement under warranty. I haven't had any problems with this one. I dropped it when getting into my car. The back came loose, but it easily snapped back into place with nothing but a few scratches on the side where it hit.

If my second dies, I'm getting a refund, not a replacement.

I'm on my two original tablets. Both have been dropped. My sons a lot, mine took its first spill the other night. Popped it right on the corner with the kickstand. There is a small crack where the small screw is under the stand. Its causing the stand to pop open easy. Other than that the hardware is working perfectly.

So my replacement tablet is still working well, so now I want to root it again. The latest Archos firmware makes it a *****. Would it be better to use the console and reset the tablet before rooting?
I had three 101G9 tablets, each with separate faults.
When I sent the last one back they upgraded me to a 101XS ... which has a faulty touchscreen!
I won't buy an Archos tablet again.

I've got several Archos tablets, and overall... and oddly... I've had very few problems with any of them other that some bad firmware upgrades or a few bad apps (including some of Google's own stuff) that eventually got fixed. I guess I've been just lucky somehow with all of my G9's being older ones with only 512M RAM (which is a bit sad because I know 1G RAM would increase performance).
The MAJOR problem I've had all started when Archos released the newer 4.0.2x firmware releases. Had to find out how to install rooted stock 4.0.7 to get a usable device again.
I will agree though, that if Archos wants to being totally idiotic with their firmware and REFUSES to provide a clean way back to a previous firmware (that actually works)... well, I too will NEVER be buying any new Archos device. Only way I would buy another Archos is *IF* it was a G9 model and I was absolutely certain that it did not come shipped with firmware higher than 4.0.7. Otherwise, forget Archos completely!

I put in rooted 4.0.7 last night, than 4.0.28. Some odd things happening like games dropping out and unable to find wi-fi when moved to a different network unless I reboot the tablet. If this continues it's back to 4.07 for me.

The really sad part is that if you have ever installed ANY of the 4.0.2x official firmware is that even when trying to go back to a 'rooted' 4.0.7 there are a bunch of leftovers that just don't clear out. I've done some seriously drastic things like AFTER installing rooted stock 4.0.7 of going back with ADB and deleting several syestem/app files and the dalvick-cache... and then doing some of that a second time again. Even then though there still does seem to be some odd things left that ARE NOT part of the official Archos 4.0.7 firmware.
If you are interested send me a PM, otherwise it's really too hard to explain what I'm talking about (and might not even make sense in any reply I send you).
Anyway, as far as "I" am concerned, Archos just tried to screw up as many of the G9 tablets they could with the 4.0.2x firmware simply to try to FORCE people to buy their newer G10 tablets (which DO NOT WORK RIGHT either). Kind of the same STUPID attitude several other companies had before.... "Oh, that don't work, buy this one then".... Only real difference is THAT IDIOTIC APPROACH to marketing failed for the other companies... yet, Archos seems to 'think' they can still keep doing it.
In short, SIMPLY DO *NOT* BUY ANYTHING FROM ARCHOS! Some people wonder why most of the world hates the French, but Archos keeps giving more reasons to NOT TRUST a company based in France. The Archos G9 tablets COULD have become a world leader, but for whatever reason Archos decided they would rather kill of as many of a 'good thing' as they could just to push other even worse devices on the market... something to do with EVERYONE (mostly morons) that absolutely wanted Jelly Bean (and I'm not going to buy any new Android device with that worthless crap). So I'm not only done with Archso, but also any newer Android device... never wanted, still don't want, and never will want the crap Google is trying to turn the Android OS into.
After all, *IF* I wanted a device with a dozen apps that are constantly sending info back... well, I might just as well go with a Windows 8 device (since I know my Windows computers are already sending all kinds of feedback to Microsoft as it is, Google is trying to go BEYOND what Microsoft has already been doing for years.).
In other words... all *I* want is a device that actually works, NOT ONE THAT SPENDS ALL OF ITS TIME REPORTING EVERYTHING I DO BACK TO SOMEBODY ELSE. And don't give me any of the bogus 'anonymous' nonsense because EVERY device has a certain device number, and EVERY internet connection has an IP address. As soon as you register a device or set up an e-mail address THEY KNOW. And, Google is going FAR BEYOND what anyone should ever allow them to know about (your location, what websites you view, what your interests are, etc.).
Fingers crossed but I haven't had _any_ HW quality issues with my G9 80 8GB 1GB. I've tried most of the ROMs available and have noticed that every now and then it makes things a lot easier if I just completely format the device and re-install stock using a .aos file.

Thinking about doing the same thing as it wigs out sometimes and goes real slow.
Mine is crap. Battery blew up like a capri sun pouch just after the warranty expired, archos wants $77 to fix it. This is after I gave them a second chance when my 70 quit charging and they wanted $125 to fix that. Not even so much as a "sucks to be you", when i told them the story of their own products, they just reply with their repair costs. ill never touch their products again

I might still have the battery of my original one. Let me know if you want to try and use it. The wires are soldered, so its not plug n play.

I got a 101 g9 and have touchscreen problems sometimes. when i get ghost inputs just recalibrate the touchscreen and when it stops working just "draw" and swipe with 4 fingers on the screen for a while. after a few seconds it comes back to usual behaviour. hope that helps others with that idiotic touchscreen...

I had planned on keeping it as a spare, but have decided if it dies on me a DNR order is in effect.
They sent me a new device
I leave here the last reclaim on the archos support
Hello, I´ve received a new device to replace the first one that I Had, all the info in RET-XXXXXXXXXXX, but the new device came with several problems:
Ram memory 465 mb !!!!???
Processor- ARMv7 Processor rev 3 (v7l)!!??? 1.2 MHz!!!!!
And a build/Fabric defect on de screen, that when you shake the device a water bubble seems to appear and ruins the image that is showing.
I do have photos of proof of all the defects, including a video with the water bubble showing when shaking.
I also sense that it is working a lot slower then the first one I had, for that went to check the real system info....and bad news came along.
Request a immediate re-change of the product, for one that has the specific system info that I paid for. 1 GB Ram, 1.5 dual core processor, Mali 400 GPU , and a screen without any defect!
Tank you
Regards
PS: I can send you the photos and videos of the problems encountered, just send me a email.
Call Tech Support immediately and tell them what you are seeing. They will run you through several tests and then send you a new unit.

Experiencing random clicks and lags.

Get to XZU today. First experience is about some light lags..
the model is the eu C6833 with FW .532
lags are not so terrible, but facing like my Xperia Z (standard, not Z1) i notice some less lagging into Z (C6603)...and thats curious, because i read around that the Ultra has no lags at all! So i was quite suprised..
Even during the startup, starting both phones, can be noticed on the Z standard the coloured stripes passing in a much more smooth way... instead on the Ultra.. they are quite lagging some... i know, that means nothing. I just asking about other experiences..
But, another problem, and this is not just a lag feeling... while using the phone (the ULTRA)... occasionally it shots here and there some clicks... is not happening continuous... just it may happen a couple of time in one hour.. for example.. while i am tiping.. just some character jumps out.. and maybe the keyboard goes away..then suddenly return after 1 or 2 seconds.. quite weird..
Also.. i figured that may be a common problem related to youthness of firmware?
I got the device today.. so, i may return it for replacement to the store asap, if i figure that may have some defects.
Suggestions?
MANY THANKS!
The current firmware is not even close to being bug free, so weird stuff will happen, but if you can't live with it i would get a replacement and hope for the best. It's all software bugs though, so you might end up with a new device that's similar to the one you have now.
Sent from my Z Ultra, using XDA Premium 4
ah well..its ok i can wait.. i just was not sure if was a software youthness defect, or a hardware defect. That may be quite different, because after a week i can not return the phone to the store, so if a hardware issue came out, i would have to send the device for service and wait "who knows how long" to get it back...(and maybe, having the problem still there..)
I'm not experiencing any lag, but my screen is more sensitive after i updated from 510 to 532, which is a thing that i don't like, and it results in a couple of random taps that i don't want. This showed up for me after the 532 update, so it's a software bug. One thing i would do if i were you is to use the diagnosis tool (Settings->About) and test everything and see if there are any hardware defects; just to be sure.
I'm thinking either the screen is overly sensitive to your inputs or you might have had it connected to a charger at the same time?
Depending on the quality of the charger, this can play havoc with a capacitive screen and I have noticed odd behaviour on cheaper chargers since getting my first capacitive screen phone and almost every device I have had since can exhibit this behaviour, XZU included.

Is your C6833 from one of the carriers, which might have bloatware (a possible reason) , or is it contract-free standard Sony?
Your comment about the boot up image caught my eye. The purple wave/swoosh at bootup really lagged on my C6802 when I used backup/restore to go back to previous settings with different firmware. A clean re-install solved all of it.

Oh no i never use devices while keeping connected...btw the xzu..is supplied with original charger...i see no reason to use a cheap blotty charger with it.. I guess you are right about oversensitivity..i applied a film protection on the screen and i am noticing much less random clicks...
But i sm still evaluating the return policy of my store..to go and get another one.. Just dont want to lose time if this are software issues..

The Diagnosis tools, reported all "OK" except the flash. I guest because there's no flash..
I just repeat. That lags are not aggressive.. but the refresh is quite far from that i've seen in youtube reviews.. i would say, same performance like Xperia Z.. and that's nonsense because one is Snap600 at 1.5ghz and XZU Snap800 a 2.2ghz so, it MUST be, more reactive..
AnTuTu v4, reported 34000 anyway. And the reliability test passed.

[Q] Hard or software?

Hey guys,
Ive been using my ZU for a week now, and love it.
Only noticed one thing, sometimes when the phone is just with screen on, it will open apps and do random stuff on itself. (without touching the screen myself.)
I dont know if this is software related, or that my hardware is defective.
Anyone has any experience on this?
Kind regards,
Hoolz
Yeah, that's the so called "ghost clicking". It usually happens if you have some dirt on the screen. It was a bigger issue on pre-257 firmwares, so Sony has made thing better for most people by updating, so it's mostly a software issue.

Anyone else ever get this? Suggestions, solutions, fixes, anything?
I'm guessing it's some sort of a driver issue? It's mostly when transitioning between something, as in from an app to home, the other way around and so on. But I also get it within apps as well. For example I don't think I ever had a clean image-fade to black-image transition in Asphalt 8 when waiting for a race. It always seemed to go off in those blocks. Sometimes it's happening really often, other times it seems to be pretty smooth."
I'm having something similar. Please help us.
Thank you

EDIT # 1 : Today I went to service center for this issue, and they said the problem in the motherboard issue. Sadly, I have to change the motherboard which cost me.

Multi touch issues?

Hello everyone, I just got this tablet today and I'm having an issue with it. I was trying to play a music game and I noticed that when I touched both extremes of the screen the multitouch would release my fingers for some reason. I've recorded a video of it using a multitouch application just to make sure I wasn't going crazy, here it is:
Link to the Youtube video
Do you think it's defective? If anyone has this M5 10 tablet could you test it for me and see if you also have the same multitouch issue? Since I just got it today, should I return it? Or is it something that can be fixed?
Thank you.
Received mine today from Boulanger in France, i used the same software as you to test it. Everything is working fine, even with 3 or 4 fingers, using the same kind of routine you used. So i suppose that your tablet is faulty. Sorry mate.

Hi Andrgin, which is your problem? In my case I have the problem only if I touch the screen with two fingers. In this case seems that the tablet, after 2 sec, can't recognize anymore the touch. I'm waiting the response of the support for the ticket that I opened, hopping that they can tell me that is only a software problem and not an hardware issue, let's see...Anyway I have your idea too, I bought this tablet to play music game and is really useless with this problem.
When I touch the screen with 2 fingers at the same time and do not move them for about 1 second the tablets looses the touch of both fingers. It does not happen if I dont put both fingers down at the same time (more than about 500ms), move the fingers around while they touch the screen. Also it does not happen with 3 or more fingers.
To me it seems like the system treats the as a gesture.
I made a video about it:
youtu.be/PXXakOw_1Hk
I also thinks that the system treats this as some kind of a weird gesture. I don't think it is related to the hardware. I'll ask the Huawei support soonish because it really is annoying with cytus 2 for example or even pdfs when you want to pan soon and have 2 fingers on it and then your touch input gets removed.
This is with the 10 pro
Could it be, I hope that you are right but is really strange that only some devices have this problem, if it is a software problem, all the devices with this software need to have the issue.
I think all have this problem. So far everybody that said he does not have this bug had tested it the wrong way. You have to place both fingers at the same time and do not move them. If you move them while touching the screen it still works.
And no I dont think it is hardware related.
I also experienced this (talked about it in another thread), but it must be more complicated than that.
It's not something that systematically happens whenever i put two fingers down a the same time. It works just fine most of the time, but occasionally notes will drop, always in the same spots, in the same songs. "Pointer location" shows the touch is still being registered, if that's anything to be trusted.
I'll take the occasion to ask again since there seem to be other people who play music games in this thread: beside the touchscreen issues, has anyone noticed a slight delay on the audio feedback? I'm talking about a 100-150 ms delay from the moment i touch the screen to the moment the corresponding sound effect plays. The touch itself is registered correctly, but the audio lags behind for some reason.
Either way, i sent back the 10.8", gonna have the 8.4" here by tomorrow i hope, will update on how this one behaves.
It does not matter where you place your fingers only that it happens at the same time (less than about 500ms) and you dont move them for about 1 second.
About audio I dont know. Most time I had sound off.
It may be a general Android Oreo bug, although the article speaks about Android 8.1, not 8.0:
https://www.xda-developers.com/android-8-1-oreo-multi-touch-bug-fixed-june-update/
Maybe Huawei used parts of Android 8.1 for the M5.
A fix from Google is planned for the June security update.
Just tested the 8.4", after installing the new update. Interestingly enough, it didn't seem to drop any inputs.
The sound delay, however, is exactly the same, and it baffles me no one else seems to notice it.
On top of that, i think i got a defective unit, as the charging speed starts off at 3300-3400 mAh, then drops to 500-600, never to rise again. So much for quickcharge.
Battery also seems to run considerably hotter for no apparent reason: 37 degrees Celsius while charging at that pitiful speed, no other apps running.
For reference, the 10.8" never exceeded 32 degrees, and that's while charging at max speed, with apps running at the same time.
Overall, this tablet has been nothing but a huge disappointment, i'll just refund it and wait for something else to come out at this point.
Edit: it charges normally when the screen is turned off. When the screen is on, the charger seems to provide enough current to offset whatever i'm consuming, plus those 500-600 extra mAh, so no matter what i'm doing that speed doesn't change. The 10.8" was charging normally, full speed minus whatever power i was drawing, so i'm still pretty sure something's not right.
@chris_g I really hope it could be the problem but wait two more months it's really frustrating! For now I haven't received yet one answer from the support...
Not really good news from Italian support, them tell me that no reports was received about our problem, so them suggested me to try to reset the device to the default to see if is a software problem. Did you guys found something else? I'm really thinking to request the replace of the device.
Just to be sure, could someone give me the mail of the international/English support? I want to try to write a mail also to them.
Cheers
I got the M5 Pro from amazon.it and the warranty check showed that I get warranty in most European countries. I opened a ticked with the Austrian support providing all the info they needed. They said they dont know of the problem so far and will forward it. This was over 1 week ago and I did not receive any response yet.
Replacing the tablet will not solve anything because every M5 (at least the 10" versions) have this bug.
And no it is not an Oreo bug because my Mate 10 (also EMUI 8.0) works fine. I guess it is some code Huawei added to support the pen.
Firmware Finder already shows a EMUI 8.1, but it is not approved for installation yet. I guess we will get Oreo 8.1 in a few weeks/months and this bug will hopefully be fixed in the new version.

Don't be so optimistic on that one, as Google themselves introduced an all new multi-touch bug in the 8.1 base. Thus one bug will maybe just be replaced by another one, as Google already stated that they'll have the bug fixed in the June update soonest. Let's hope Huawei uses the patched June base to upgrade our tablet to 8.1.
Sent from my HTC U11 using XDA Labs
Huawei already ships Android 8.1 with the P20 so I guess we are getting the same code. I never heard about multi touch problems there so I guess Huawei has already replaced that faulty Google code. With all the people complaining about late Android updates for existing devices, but there is a reason most vendors wait until they release a new Android version for the masses. Google phones are simply beta test devices.
I have the 8.4" wifi model. It suffers the multi-touch problem but not the sound delay problem. I tried the drum pad app, sounds play instantly as soon as I touch them.
