Looking to use my old tbolt to record band performances. Currently using a 4.04 rom (can't recall which one) and am only getting 12fps at 720p. Wondering if going back to a Gingerbread rom might improve performance. Literally nothing else needs to work, just video. Any suggestions?
Thanks!

I'm still really new to custom ROMs etc and so far all i have done is rooted and cleaned certain apps off my phone then added sd tools etc 2speed up the processes etc. I have been looking into using a custom rom the past few days.
I am hoping to find a fully working ROM especially as I use my camera quite alot for work (tattooist) but also with good speeds etc (basically the best possible lol)
Can anyone suggest a good ROM to use that is fully working? i only want to experiment for now so will try any suggestions for the fully working ROMS.
Also if anyone could also tell me (in simple terms) how to install them would be much appreciated
It's a personal choice. All custom 2.2+ ROMs don't have the SE stock camera, so you may lose some functions like zoom. Wolfbreak's 2.2 CM6 V007 is my favorite. Look around in the development section.
Also, have you enabled JIT (optimized) on your rooted 2.1? That will give you major improvements in speed and smoothness, and you can keep the SE stock camera.
On 2.2-2.3 custom Rom you might experience video lag with the camcorder.
It may not work properly once you need it spontaneously.
For example like you want to video your tattooing work.
I am using Wolfbreak's v007.1 with custom kernel.
I needed to camcorder today but the video lag was horrible and ruined the video I wanted to capture.
It really depends on what kind of function you need.
There is simply NO full (100%) functional 2.2+ custom ROM for X10.
Stay with stock one. Try JIT and wait until official 2.3.3 is ready (probably in august)
there are very functional roms, I'm on miui. 2.2 with zkernel and everything works and FPS is removed so you'LLC definately experience a giant leap toward in smoothness. Plus the miui. Camera isn't bad at all, it takes 8mp photos full screen. Or you can go with Wolf's Rom, these are the best, most stable roms IMO
OP said "fully working" ROM twice. Also said "I use my camera quite alot for work."
As agentJBM suggested, none of those custom ROMs has a "fully working" SE stock camera. Therefore SE stock eclairs (or custom eclair ROMs perhaps) are the best bet. The speed improvement of custom ROMs exists but not as huge as some people want to believe.
Hi, im using CosmicExperia rom for my LG Optimus ME. I dont know why, but the camera is now much slower (i mean the framerate). In my stock froyo it had much better quality. The problem is when i capture indoors videos it lags because of lack of light, but my old stock camera in froyo didnt have theese problems. Is this fixable?
Thanks.
Imho this can have thre reasons:
1. Somehow, your device got a lot slower with CosmicExperia rom.
(run a benchmark to compare)
2. The rom records with higher bitrate -> more cpu intensive -> lags
(compare the bitrate of similar videos between your old and the new rom)
3. The rom's camera driver is wrong/****ed up
.
Hmm, thanks. Well i think it is the 2nd. option . Nevermind, i flashed another rom more suitable for my device . Thank you
So I just got one of these things (10.1) , and its SLOW compared to my G2x! (I'm blaming the launcher for one...)
What's up with that? They run the same Tegra 2 chip! I can't play videos back on my Tab but the same videos work fine on my G2x... I'm running MX Video Player on both devices, and my Tab wont let me do hardware decoding, while my G2x does hardware decoding on the same videos...
Is it because I'm running a custom rom on my G2x vs just a root and stock rom and pershot kernel on the Tab?
What's going on here? I would expect the Tab to be able to decode the same video as my G2x.

Anyone know how to get buttery smooth UI Performance on the Tab [especially with live wallpapers]? Are there any good alternative launchers for Honeycomb?

Can you change the dock/quick Icons on the menu bar? (task manager, calendar, world clock, pen memo, calculator, music player).
First, do you have the latest "official" update? If you are under 3.1, it's a joke even compared to 3.2...
Second, you can't realy compare stock to custom roms, if you like custom roms, try the Task rom, pretty good!

Yep! I'm running 3.2. I had to update at least twice for some strange reason... once to 3.2, and one smaller update afterwards.
Do custom roms make that much of a difference? Even when just comparing video decoding?
I'll check that rom out! Thanks!
Probably not worlds apart between ROMs when it comes to video decoding, UI responsiveness yes but video playback less so.
Personally i either play downloaded TV episodes encoded in xvid in less than 720p or I'll play my own rips encoded in 720p specifically for the tab so I have no complaints about playback. I do understand however, the frustration people have about not being able to throw any file you currently have our may download onto these tabs and be able to play it smoothly. Comparing the tab to your LG phone is fruitless though as just because both may share tegra 2 cpus doesn't mean implementation is the same.

It's because custom ROM's have specific kernel's that have governor's and I/o to set the phone straight. I would suggest clocking to 1.4GHZ and use pershoot's kernel.
I stand corrected. My impression has been that for the galaxy tab 10.1 there has basically been just two; stock and pershoot's. Then again, since i mainly only deal with my own model which has little or no developer support i could be wrong.
This weekend I updated my Galaxy Note N 7000 kernal to FM Kernal and Criskelo ROM V2. everything works great what i find is the camera quality has been reduced significantly than my stock kernal and rom. can anyone help me on what to do to improve camera quality

Maybe the new rom has a diff camera app from the stock one... i also noticed my camera quality dropped when flashed a custom rom...try a different camera app like camera zoom fx or any other n see if the quality is still the same.
Mine did the same but I got a app that works fine.

Yeah, different ROMs comes with different settings. So either try editing the settings or go for a different camera.apk. Either way, I think the best thing to do if you really use the camera a lot, then go for a different ROM.
Good luck
Hi,
I just installed Neutrino 2.9 and I was surprised to see the video camera is only up to 720p
I need a stable and fast ROM that has 1080p video recording (and everything else working of course).
Fingerprint and docks are not important to me
Any recommendations?
Thanks!!

Neutrino does have a flashable camera addon that does 1080p but it is a waste. Framerates are not as good as compared to 720p

I've made some readings about 1080p lately and all i could find is atrix can record [email protected] and 24fps is average. so the experience is not smooth and fluent.you might want to stick with 720p
Personally, I don't get the point of 1080p on a phone. It's still a phone. It won't make higher quality videos if you increase the resolution, it will just make larger files.
