They changed the way that the NFC secure element works. Essentially, its even more secure now. And they gave a big middle finger to Verizon/ATT and Isis.

Yes you can set a default card that gets used when you tap to pay.

Sorry didn't see this post. I'm not sure on the bank account. I don't think you need to since you'll be using a card. But the back account is there in case you want to add funds from bank to Google wallet card.

I would never authorize on-line transactions directly from an account. Credit cards at least have limits/protections.
Bank account is not required. All I use is one of my cards. Works like a champ.
Has anyone been able to get tap to pay working on 4.4.2? I'm on Surge's 4.4.2 rom and tap to pay sets up immediately, which means it didn't completely setup. Proper setup usually takes a few minutes. I've tried it at a store and as expected it didn't didn't even register with the payment terminal. I was able to use tap to pay on my old s3 prior to April 14th and was hopeful I could use it on the s4 now that is has official kit kat.
I've been using it on the 4.4.2 release for weeks. Every now and then the first tap won't work but it always does the second time. It set up pretty much immediately for me compared to the old way NFC worked.

I guess that means I'm likely experiencing operator error. I went into the transaction assuming that it wasn't going to work because of the different experience with setup. Then when the first tap didn't register, I quickly used the actual credit card.
When the first tap doesn't work for you, does it even register a transaction attempt? My phone didn't even attempt to start a transaction.
It makes the customary wallet sound and then has that reader/transaction may not have been successful message.

When you get the message saying "check with clerk to make sure transaction has processed" it will also say "or tap again to complete". Just tap the phone to the pay pass again and it will say "sent" for the second time and then the transaction will be complete.

I think some stores that have the paypass machine, don't actually have the machine hooked up to work with it.
If it does nothing at all, I'd imagine thats the case. It wasn't setup on their end.

Do you trust AndroidLost? The whole thing seems a little fishy, and at least one user reported hearing camera shutter sounds (the kind that are made when you take a screenshot or front facing camera photo, a function available in AndroidLost) - this was shortly before the dev removed the sound making function when taking remote FFing stills.

Not at all and neither do I trust Viber and it's shady dev or lot's of other apps on the market. I don't keep Androidlost installed all the time but after playing around with it, I can see where it could be very useful tool for after the fact locating a lost or stolen phone.
I got my yesterday. It was real late, so I opened up just to check if it was not broken etc.....
Then something occurred to me, my nexus 10 per-configured. At no time did I go through the initial setup as I would do for a new phone or other tablets. It defaults to checked I believe.
I had the option checked and my account wasn't linked.
which is fine because that's what I actually wanted.
Just think, that when they ship them preconfigured (which is hard to believe because that would mean someone has to unpack them and upload all the stuff) and the devices get stolen or "kidnapped" these people would get access to your google account
Google already knows everything about you... doesn't matter what you tick.
Yeah I've found lots of things creepy but also. I think knowing all my wifi passwords was pretty creepy cause those aren't something you really get to choose if Google saves... Google now seems to be affected by what I do on my android phone such as recent navigation paths show up as new cards on tablet.

It doesn't come pre-configured nor they unpack them and upload all the stuff. At the time of shipping the Serial Number is linked to your account you purchase from. Turning it on, it reads your Serial Number and configures it for your account.

Are you saying that Google has your WiFi password?
And it gives this password to their employees to pre-configure your device before shipment?
Imagine, the cost to Google, with the labor being so expensive in the USA, to open each box, take out the wrappings, configure your device, and wrap it again like a brand new unit, with plastics, tape around the box and so forth.
Boggles the mind.
Best regards,
K guys I'm gonna try something new to me: Voice of reason.
Maybe there's a special NFC code that wakes the device and has it connect to some WiFi that is nearby and configure then shut down. If that is the case, all they would need to do is have Samsung ship the devices in a state that would accept a NFC wake (could even be a special hardware wake circuit), scan the device to your order, and leave the box in a WiFi accessible location for an hour and it should all be able to have downloaded. No need for a greasy Google goon to touch your device or know your WiFi passkey. Samsung can seal the box, and Google can just shove info into your tablet from its database. G would never pay an army of people to unbox and play with a million tablets, I am certain.
Do keep in mind that any data that Google has in their database is recoverable - i.e., your privacy being safe just because someone didn't have an opportunity to scribble your wpa2 key down is a naïve notion... Keep your digital life as private as you are comfortable with everyone knowing.

If you go to the about screen it still says that tap and pay is "not available" for us. So I'm guessing we still can't use it for that. I wonder with this new version if it might be easier to get it to work though?

We are able to get the SE Sim Cards from Verizon. If that's the only thing stopping it from working, then that's a piece of cake. If and only if
Just confirmed that if you change your build.prop to a Tap and Pay supported phone like the Galaxy Nexus, it will then proceed to look for a Secure Element and wallet will not load. If you keep your stock build prob for your device it knows that it has no secure element and will just report back that Tap and Pay is not available. Pulled a log cat to confirm this. It returns that no SMX is available and will force close wallet after a certain amount of time.
I'm wondering if Google might of added the ability to look for Secure Elements on sim cards with this updated. Can anyone confirm that might have an NFC SE Sim card?
Bottom line is.... If we have no SE embedded on our phones, then NFC payments with Wallet are not a possibility.

I wonder if all it needs now to get SMX access is the nfc_access.xml file in /system/etc that contains the Google Wallet key, instead of just a Isis key. AFAIK, you can have both keys listed in the nfc_access.xml file. But if you don't have a NFC sim card, I guess you can't verify ...
If you feel like changing your build.prop again, maybe you could experiment with the nfc_access.xml file?

I was just looking at their thread for the new version and it doesn't even seem like you need to have xposed framework at all. Looks like all the flashable zip does is intall the Wallet.apk so you don't have to change your build.prop to get it from the market. Although it looks like people are having a tough time using the new version compared to the old version.

Hello my fellow people,
I am warning the people who may not know what VZW does on calls. So I called support because I am having an issue with my charging port. Simply just need it replaced so I can properly charge my phone and connect it to my PC without it randomly disconnecting. So I call them and go to tier 2 to explain my problem. I do and the representative ask me to give them a quick second to see what the issue may be. I wait for about 30 seconds and to make a long story short, their diagnostic tool found my device to be rooted, so there was nothing they would do. So yes, when you call in with a problem, software or hardware, they do a diagnostic test to see if the device has been rooted. So I had to call back several times to get a representative who would not see the previous test done, and run a new one while I was unrooted. So now my account is clean but with a major headache. So XDAers, DO NOT CALL VZW FOR SUPPRT WHILE ROOTED. I WAS GOING TO BEFORE I SENT IN THE PHONE BUT THAT DOESNT WORK. UNROOT AND BE STOCK BEFORE CALLING. Hope this little story helped.
Update: Yes, they run the tool without permission from the user

Yep. I did and they retested. I'm just wondering how they can do it without customer permission.
I would have asked them to explain how they think a physical part of the phone would be damaged from a software aspect of the phone. The onus is on them to prove it.
Edit: I always call from another phone and make sure the phone I'm calling about is in airplane mode so there is no chance for them to connect to it just to be safe anyways.
What file do they use to access the phone? The my Verizon app?

I honestly don't know...

I always call from another phone too, but my Note wasn't in airplane mode though. Gonna do that from now on.
Should try root cloak xposed module. That may help.

Yep. I did and they retested. I'm just wondering how they can do it without customer permission.

The my Verizon app asks for root access if you have Superuser installed and requests pop up. I've seen it myself once and wondered..... If I didn't have an app to notify me, would it have given that app root access silently? I bet it does.

ISIS app that comes bloated on the N900V also asks for superuser access. It also will not run on a rooted device. I'm betting if It wasn't rooted it would also have gotten access silently as does my Verizon app.
I thought it was common knowledge that, if you're rooted, you disable data/wifi when you're calling into VZW support. They can't connect to their little spy-app if there's no internet service. I've called into support and they've tried, unsuccessfully, to connect to mine.

I usually do the same. I did have a problem and had my USB port go bad. I took it to the store and they never noticed it was rooted.

I don't think so, I didn't have it installed. And I have denied root before on other phones. Also I can't use the exposed module because they can check your installs on your phone.
Towel root
So I just got a new refurb from Verizon/Assurion and found something interesting. One of the first apks I installed was the CM Virus Protection and scanned my phone. My phone is not rooted stock everything. CM scanned my phone and found a suspicious system exploit however though... Towelroot! I guess reseting the phone factory and even from Assurion somehow the previous owner had root, and parts of it somehow sustained. Weird that they would send out a phone like this if a simple virus scanner picked it right up on first try. Just thought id throw that out there.
I wish I would have seen this earlier. 10 calls in for reception, normally airplane mode and I forgot, bam. "Take it to the Samsung booth in best buy they can read flash the phone".....odin ain't helping this problem. Lmao
I just disable the my verizon app on all my phones so I never have this issue.
