[Q] Z2 thinks its charging after being unplugged - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've been having a weird problem with my Z2. When plugged into my car or my laptop I get an error message to say that the "phone is using more power than what is being supplied" and it stops charging. However, when I unplug the phone the LED stays red, and the lightning symbol appears by the battery and doesn't go off until a reboot.
Is this happening to anyone else? I've only successfully managed to charge it with the mains adapter and cable it came with, no other adapters work?

I get the same but i plug it in again and remove and it fixes
Or even a reboot does it

I had it replaced by CPW - even after a reboot it still thought it was being charged. Restore didn't fix it either.
They switched it out no problem.

Same here. If I use the magnetic charger in the car and then remove it, the charging light stays on. If plug the phone into the dock at home and remove it, the charging LED turns off. Not sure what's causing it.

Maybe its because, as shown on included leaflet, dock charger is dedicated to wall charges?

I have noticed that sometimes the time it says it has been on battery is way off, I took mine off the magnetic charging dock yesterday at 12:00pm but when I check in the battery section it is saying 17 hours 58 mins & 47 secs on battery, it should be saying 1 day & 1 hour on battery.

phone broke ? need help

Hi
I think my phone is a little broke,
It ran out battery last night so i put it on charge this morning.
was on charge by wall for 10 min to get some battery then swapped over to car when i was driving it turned off now when i try and charge it at work via a usb wire and cplug converter i just get the battery logo with the spining circle for a few seconds it flashes then goes off does this about 6 times then the screen just goes off and will not do anything
anyone know any fixes or has it gotta go to samsung ?
Thanks
Have you tried taking out the battery?
Please let us know if it starts working again.
tried that, its like its not getting the power it needs for thats first few seconds as the buttons at the bottom flash on then off again
With the phone OFF. Leave it charging for four hours using the supplied mains charger.
With the phone OFF do you see a picture of the battery showing how much charge you have when you plug the phone into the mains charger? How much charge does it show?
it comes up with the b attery with a circle logo init then turns off then comes back to that over and over again,
i dont have the proper charger on me just the usb wire and a plug to usb
Think getting somewhere, tried a mates battery that works fine, mates charger wont charge on my phone but will my battery in his, so i guess my micro usb port is broke :'(

[SOLVED] SGS2 doesn't charge.

Appearantly my SGS2 doesn't charge, when I connect it to the wall charger it boots up, shows that the battery is at 0% and shuts down after about a minute. Than it repeats it the process over and over again.
Any ideas?
* Solution: MicroUSB pins were dirty, cleaned and the phone charges.

Nothing, completely stock.
I am having the same issue. Wont charge, battery icon shows up for about 5 secs than flickers off - then repeats that every minute or so. It also gets really hot. Have tried different chargers, cleaning the contacts etc but nothing works.
It wont enter recovery or download mode either
If you are running pure stock ROM+Kernel then it sounds like a mechanical fault. Try and order a new battery in the first instance and see if that solves it. Otherwise take it back and get it replaced by the manufacturer.
It is common for this to occur when the battery has been drained past its safety net.
Leave it doing that charge loop on and off. It will stop after some time.
This a warning that you need to stop letting your battery go to 0%
Don't be lazy, charge your phone when it needs to be charged.

Just clean your micro USB port on the phone. When it's dirty it makes pins short circuits... You can use an ear swab + alcohol.
I'll need to try cleaning that microSD slot, I bought new battery, phone powers up but now it doesn't charge at all.
I plug it in, nothing happens. Any ideas?

Im not sure how I can clean the microSD slot with simply an ear swap since its such a small thing, but I cleaned it as good as I could, not I shows black screen with yellow triangle and exclamation mark.
I tried the new battery, the phone powers up, shows its charging but still stays at 0% and reboots continuesly..
* EDIT! The triangle vanished and the phone is now charging! Special thanks to radkor! It was just a dirty microUSB slot.
If you can't charge the battery using the usb slot then you could buy a standalone battery charger off ebay... This won't help if there is more problems than just the charging though.... But its fairly cheap and you now have an extra oem battery for a spare...
The phone charges now properly but both the battery go empty in less than 10hrs even though I've got Juice Defender and BatterSave mode on, also it reboots continuesly when I make a call, I think I might have another problem on my hand..

[Q] Dead Photon won't charge? (SOLVED)

Yesterday I let my phone die (low battery > powering down) and it stayed dead for 30 or so minutes. I plugged it into my wall charger and nothing happened. It didn't boot up, and there was no LED light.
I plugged it into USB and got a WHITE light, but it didn't charge. Even if I remove the battery I still get the white light when it's on USB.
I tried leaving my phone on the wall charger overnight, nothing happened.
I left it on USB for 4 hours, still nothing happened.
To sum it up:
Plug it into wall charger: Nothing happens, no LED
Plug it into wall charger with battery in: White LED
Plug it into wall charger with battery out: White LED
Nothing will charge it. I tried 2 USB cables and 3 wall chargers. I know they all work because I also used them to charge my replacement phone.
Returning to Sprint is NOT an option (I live in Canada)
What can I do to fix this?? The phone is less than 2 months old

Your battery has been drained out completely.so you will need to boost up your battery.either connect your battery to a compatible battery charger or do following step
take one of your usb cable and cut it. you will get four wires. you will need red wire and black wire. Take out the photon's battery and connect the red wire to (+)positive terminal and black wire to (-)negative terminal of the battery as indicated on the battery.now connect it to your wall charger and let it charge for 15-20 min and after charging insert the battery in your photon and charge like normal.
Huge thanks! Worked great, my Photon is back up and running! I stripped the cable I had from an old audio player and connected it like you said (the (+) and (-) are the outermost terminals).
I'm going to invest in a standalone wall charger for the battery now, as well as tell Tasker to turn off my phone at a reasonable 10% battery so it doesn't completely die.
Thanks again for the help!

Proud that it helped..
But remember not to overcharge your battery with this method this is only for boosting the battery. don't charge for more than 15-20 min.
having a very similar problem as op but...
Hey wuddup fellas,
I'm a long time lurker, first time poster. Well, never really had to until now. Anyways, Im having a VERY similar problem as the OP but with the difference that my white LED only comes on for a short amount of time when connected via usb, maybe a couple mins max. Not to mention, for some reason, the white LED only comes on when connected to a specific usb port... I got 3 on my laptop (1 on left, 2 on right) and it only comes on when attached to the 1 on the left.
Lead up to failure: I was on texting when the 5% low battery pop up showed itself. I usually get 10mins before it dies so I didnt sweat it. Then, a few mins later it died. Ok, np, I'll just connect the charger wait a sec and we'll be good to go... Guess again, when I plugged in the charger, the charging indicator didnt come on, which I thought weird. Maybe its super dead, I'll just wait a few mins and it should be able to turn on... Nope, nada. So, I pop in the extra battery I got... Same thing happens to that one! Now I'm at a loss.
I read a few forum posts around the interwebs that sound along the same lines of whats going on with my phone. This post turns out to be the closest, so I try and jump start my batteries... Again, nada. Another post says I need to charge the battery out of the phone. So, I Amazon a standalone charger for the batteries. Throw one on the new charger, battery is completely dead, takes a few hours for it to charge. Throw the newly charged battery in the phone... nothing. Charge and throw the 2nd one in... Again, NOTHING!
Now the white led wont come on anymore. Which I guess it wouldnt need to cause the batteries are fully charged. But now I got no clue where to go... please if someone has any insight, i'd greatly appreciate it.
I can only charge from the car charger a very old laptop and by computer if a hdmi monitor is pluged in to the photon.
The laptop has a dead cmos battery so it sites at the hit F1.

Sorry to wake up this thread, but I'm having a similar problem and tried the wire method. When I plug into the computer I get the same white light, but I also get the white light when I plug into the wall. After trying with the wire, I plugged into the computer and pressed the power button. The light turned green, but the screen still didn't come on.
do you have spare battery from any other mobile.just take it and connect two wire + and - to the spare battery then other end to the photon phone pins using crocodile clips with same + and - symbol just double check before connecting don't connect reverse only connect to two pins then try to turn on and post your reply..
Motorola Photon Q, Dead. Fixed easy
I did as some suggested above, but without removing the battery. After removing the back, I just unscrewed the (+) and (-) screws on the battery, lifted up the battery tab, then clipped small alligator jumpers directly onto the battery tabs. I connected a power source of 4.35v until the battery read 3.77v, then removed the power. Then I started charging it with the standard wall charger and it powered up -- now working great.

X10 mini not charging when switched on

Hi,
I have this new problem for a couple of weeks now. My X10 mini will not charge when switched on.
The problem coincides with the time I started using my Laptop to charge my X10 mini.
It occasionally starts charging while switched on, but stops after few minutes. I am forced to switch off the phone to charge it properly.
At present it charges when connected to my laptop, even when it is switched on.
Can anyone please guide me to fix this problem.
I have rooted the device.
If there is a shell command, that I can run to kick start the charging, I shall do it too...
Thank you.

Need Help with Charging when Phone is On
There should be some program that is triggered when on connecting the Charger while the phone is switched off, that is not auto triggered when the Phone is switched On.
If I switch on the phone while it is charging, the charging continues.
Does anyone know of a fix to this yet?
Thanks,

The phone detects if a charge is coming in, whether it's turned on or off. The only thing is that charging via USB (through a computer) is not as reliable as charging through the grid, using the wall-charger. Charging with the wall-charger is the preferred option.

I am plugged into the wall socket charger when I face this problem.
So how to solve this? Is there some changes I can do to a script file so that the program for charging kicks in as is required when the phone is connected to the charger?
Please help.

I've seen this thing on my own phone when the battery was too low. Don't let it go below 10% and only charge it with the wall-charger. The only time my phone is connected to my computer is when i want to change a rom or kernel, and only for a couple of minutes. In any case, i recharge it when it comes down to around 20% (say between 15 and 20), and only using the wall-charger and i do not see that problem anymore.

Hi,
Just thought I'd update.
I generally plug into the charger, once the battery reaches low (when the battery bar turns RED, 15 - 20 %).
And I always use the Wall Socket charger, as the charging is quicker. (I used the PC when I suspected the Charger Adapter)
And what I see is, though the charger is connected, and the tiny LED glows Orange (charge > 10%) or Red (Charge <=10%), the battery icon shows the charging symbol for a moment and then returns to discharge.
Same thing happens even if I disconnect the charger (MicroUSB end) and connect again.
If I shutdown the phone, the phone boots up and enters the charging mode.
Now if I switch on the phone, the charging continues.
I have even changed the Battery to try fix this, with no effect.
I understand that I'll have to charge it going forward before the charge gets below 20%. I shall do that.
But I still want to fix this problem where I don't want to be forced to restart the phone every day just to trigger the charging.
Please help.

About the having to reboot to get the charging going, you can't fix that yourself, but hopefully it goes away. I've had that same issue where is stopped charging after a couple of seconds, but when i got my battery back up to somewhat normal, that issue disappeared by itself.

[Q] Weird charging problem

Hello,
I have a really weird problem with my phone for several months now. I use Zenfone 5, and my warranty is probably void already, but I could not use it anyhow (it is in a different country). I tried contacting the official support, but they just said to send it in for a check up, which I could not at the time, and cannot now either.
The problem started when I plugged in my phone in my car using third party car charger. It worked with other phones with no problems, and the output should be OK. When I plugged it in, the light on the charger went off, and the phone turned itself off without any notification. I tried to power the phone on with no success. It just vibrated, and remained off. Later I disassembled the charger and found out that the safety fuse has melted.
I went to my house and plugged the phone in, and it turned on. But the problem was, and remained to this day, that the phone thinks it is charging even when it is not plugged in. The phone charges normally, and battery life is ok, the phone normally goes into deep sleep mode.
The phone won't power up without charger, and the USB OTG obviously doesn't work. But there are some curious things about this problem.
When I took my phone apart and disconnected the battery for 30 minutes (it is non-removable), after I connected it back, the phone turned itself on (without the charger), until I tried to charge it, then it went back to only powering on while on charger. The constant charging thing, nevertheless, remained all the time.
Sometimes when I plug in the cheap USB OTG converter, the phone stops charging notification. When I unplug it, it goes back to charging.
I have no clue what could be the problem, and which part (the usb board or the battery) could be faulty.
I also tried hard reset a few times, with no success.
Thank you in advance for your answers.
Bump? Anyone? Any clue?
Is there any way to change kernel so it doesn't register charging if there is no current flowing to the phone?
And which type of battery connector is this?
