Can't connect to Sony PC companion - Xperia Z2 Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My computer connects fine to my Z2 tablet via usb, both when in mtp-mode as well as in mass storage mode. I can browse the content the tablet via computer.
However Sony's own software, the pc companion can't find the tablet at all. There is no error message, just a complete blank when it is searching for the tablet.
I'm running Windows 7 and have tried uninstalling, reinstalling both the software and drivers but to no luck.
Anyone else with this problem or suggestion how to solve it?

I couldnt get it to work either, tried everything, even wiping the tablet.
However what worked for me was connecting the Tablet through wifi. With that I could see the tablet in PC companion, however I still cant get USB connection to work. So try Wifi?

I had the same problem. Could fix it this way:
plug in usb-cable only to your computer
start connection-progress within the software
plug in the other end of the usb-cable when prompted to connect your computer and tablet
voilà!
I never imagined, the connection-order of the usb-cable would make any difference, but it works now (whyever).
If it doesn't work for you, download, install and run the update service (http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/tools/update-service/), follow the instructions until your computer installs new drivers (don't wipe your device and don't apply any update, just abort the progress at this point) and try again the steps above.

Tried the above and still no luck.... Does anyone have any other suggestions? The tablet is recognized as a MTP device but will not connect to PC Companion. Ironically, when I first downloaded PC Companion, it did briefly connect to the device but it looked like additional windows drivers may have installed (?). I abruptly lost connection and have not been able to get it back. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I had same issue as u. I fixed it like this: I switched to a laptop that had windows 7 running on it instead of windows 8. Uninstalled pic companion and redownloaded from Sony site. And installed. I reset the tablet. After reset done. I ran the pc companion then I connected my tab to laptop USB. And now after 15 sec my tab was recognized and prompted for the. 402 update. That is how I fixed it.

So I picked up my Verizon LTE Xperia Z2 the other day SGP561, and am having the same issue with not being able to connect the PC Companion. Every time I try to "pair" it with my laptop (running Win 8.1) the PC Companion app tells me the pairing has failed, try again.
I've uninstalled the device from the computer, uninstalled PC Companion, factory reset the tablet, re installed the PC companion and tried again. Every time, it gives me the same error, and just will not pair.

Instructions from Sony
I just had this issue, I assume you solved it but someone else might end up here looking like I did.
These were sent from John @ Sony support for the Z2 (Works for other models too though).
Running the software repair

3. Start.
4. Repair Phone
5. Continue
6. Accept data removal
7. Next
8. Wait for prepare
9. Select Phone
10. Follow the connection steps
Just did this myself and I am back up and running (Pitty it happened in the first place though)

Having reinstalled Windows it now worked for me..

Hi KapaiKiwi,
Thanks a lot for your instructions. After to navigate through the web whithout success (and reading very strange solutions) I have followed your procedure and finally I have fixed my Xperia LT15i.
I had deleted services and applications in order to optimize my phone until I reached a point where my USB connection failed. I had no way to reflash it and i felt lost.
This morning I had the plan to get a new phone. Thanks to you I have saved a lot of money!!!

[Q] Unknown Device :(

Hi everyone,
i'm having difficulties to connect my sgs2 to a pc.
i have tried it on 3 different machines (win7 64, win7 64, winxp 32) with the same problem:
I works fine when i first connect the phone in download mode. But as soon as i disconnect the cable i can't connect it again. Windows sais that it doesn't recognize the device and that's it. The device manager shows an "Unknown Device" under USB-Controller. And i am not even able to install drivers by manually pointing windows to a file.
as already sais, i have tried that on 3 different machines. I have tried installing driver via kies and via the driver file that is available here in the forums. i have also tried different usb ports.
Any ideas?
Goddchen
EDIT: Maybe this is an important information: the phone connects fine as long as it is running (can be found via adb, logcat is working, etc...) it only makes problem when in download mode...
I had exactly the same issue yesterday on my Windows 7 box. In the end I connected the phone in normal (not download) mode. Into device manager and uninstalled the drivers through there.
Then I uninstalled Kies and reconnected the phone, I allowed Windows to search windows update to find drivers (not that it did as it couldn't find any and reverted to the local ones. Then disconnect the phone, re-install Kies, run the install drivers from the tools menu, close Kies. Run up Odin and the connect the phone in Download mode, low and behold 2 minutes later after a lengthy installation process the phone was picked up.
I tried a number of things but for some reason this specific order seemed to sort it.
Hey,
thanks for you hints. But they didn't work for me.
I found the problem: believe it or not, it was THE CABLE. I went and got another cable and this one is working fine all the time. The other one doesn't... Very strange...

Help needed with driver

Hello,
I need help here. Everytime I flash ANY new rom then when I connect my usb it won't do anything,it doesn't ask if I want to mount, charge or whatever and my pc does not recognize it asking for a driver, but when I am on SE stock rom it works fine and it's pure annoying me.
[The only way it detects my phone is on xrecovery and pressing mount usb storage]
I reinstalled PC companion and nothing.it just says there is an update and asks me to do it and it takes ages..
you should shutdown your phone and press back button and connect your phone to computer...

No, that is not the problem even if I do that it will just boot normally.I tried connecting it to another pc and it recognizes it OK also installs the drivers.
The other pc is W7 32 bit, mine is 64.I think I have a problem with the usb's drivers but I can't figure it out yet how to solve it apart from reinstall the drivers.
Any help will be appreciated!!
Install SE Update Service, and it'll install the drivers for you.
I got it installed, but I had enough by having several BSOD when I reinstalled all the usb drivers,(wtf), almost lost the OS, don't know why, I managed to boot, so i'm going to format my pc and install windows again. Thanks

Uninstall SE Updated, reboot PC, install SE Update... No need for formatting.
I had to do it, all my USB drivers were just F**d,no matter what I connect to the pc, it won't recognise it and ask for a driver..I don't know the cause of this, maybe I pushed it too much.everything is working now.
Is it possible for the OP's to close their own thread? I just don't need it opened,it would be good if you could do it to help admins.

SEMC USB Driver won't install

Hello,
i got a little Problem with my X10 (2.3.3 - rooted) and my Notebook (Acer - Win 7 64 bit).
I tried all ways to install the driver to use USB-Debugging but it won't install. The Device-Manager still tells me SEMC USB as unknown
I tried the usual way, start the phone with holding 'back', install the drivers manually...
Are there any other ways to get it working ?
Same goes for me,
Device manager states that the device is unknown, flashtool not working, PC companion no hope (connected to different USB ports including those of the motherboard).
it used to work but no chance now.
it charges normally from the USB (Orange LED) but would not connect to the PC.
Details:
Windows 7 x64
Gigabyte X58A-UD3R
Bootloader Unlocked Xperia X10 with 2.3.3 ROM and Doom's Kernel (the latest one)
The guy here says it is related to either windows windows update or faulty cable

Didn't help...
But installing PC Companion did it
PC Companion install drivers automaticlly, that is the best solution.

I tried removing and installing PC Companion but it didn't work either.
Any help guys?
Changing the computer had no effect as well
You must install SEUS ( Sony Ericsson Update Service ). Only SEUS will install right driver. Problem with SEUS is that when you look on SE official site, they tell you that SEUS for X10 no longer persist, and they guide you to PC companion which is crap.
Try this: try to connect your phone with PC, in flash mode. PC will try to install your phone driver but it can't find it. Then in Action Centar, on PC, (a small flag in sys tray, right down corner of a screen) find solution for this problem, and windows will automatically find SEUS over net. Install and enjoy.
from X10i via XDA premium
tried that but no luck as well (even in flash mode SEUS can not detect the device)
Thank you
hello i found a way and it worked for me download flash tool and extract it look for a folder called drivers in there u will find something called ggsetup-2.2.0.10
run this install it and all done
@huzi7868 thank you for your help
However, that didn't succeed and I reinstalled windows and drivers again, but still not working
Even no luck when the phone is in flashmode
Just tried it on a third Computer and checked the cable but the cable is working on another HTC Desire but not on my Xperia X10 (I mean my X10 cable), however they are both charging
try flashtools, there's a folder called 'drivers' in it, open it and click on the installer

I agree, I also have solved in this way.
Download the latest version of Flashtool and after installing it you will find in the "drivers" folder the file "Flashtool-Drivers.exe".
Run it and select the drivers you need. Then connect again your Xperia X10
I really appreciate your help, but I had done that 3 times and on different computers but "USB Device not recognized"
As I sad before, use SEUS to install SEMC USB DRIVER. I have win 7 64bit, and I install driver on it. First, install Update service. When its finished, start Update Service and follow instruction (check "Licence Agree" button, and click next, then pick your phone, X10i I suppose, be carefull there is two X10, One is X10, and other is X10 SO-01b. I pick X10 for myself, and press NEXT. Turn off your phone, press and hold BACK button on phone while connecting with PC via USB. HOLD till you see message to release BACK button. Till then your driver will be installed.
Download SEUS from here http://www.megaupload.com/?d=SBDVZ3DG
@Dzufa Thank you, but I had done that before and tried it again, whenever I connect the phone pressing the back button the green LED illuminates and "USB device is not recognized" appears and nothing happen after that, SEUS just behaves like nothing is connected.
Try with this one. And I think you must be online, because SEUS must download some files.
I really did that and of course updated SEUS, as I said green LED illuminates and nothing happens even in flash tool (it used to work for ages but suddenly it stopped, it only charges)
BTW, I had flashed many kernels and ROMs before it happened so I am quite familiar with flashtool and SEUS, I unlocked the bootloader using 9lucas method and it worked after that I installed XSP ROM and the USB worked as well, however after 2 weeks or so, one day I left it connected it to the PC and I found that the phone turned off and refused to power on, I left it for a while in the charger then powered it on and it powered on, then it has refused to connect to the PC through USB since then.

If the PC is Windows 7 or 8 you should see a USB connection.
Any USB 2.0 MicroUSB data cable should work.
When you plug the USB data cable into the PC and the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10i phone, do you get an LED light indicating the phone is being charged(powered) via the USB port? You should see an LED power light.
On the phone you can enable USB debugging ( Settings ► Applications ► Development )
This won't 'enable' the connection but it does:
a) Provide an advance software connection between PC and phone for software updates and etc.
b) Displays a little Android icon on the phone to show something is connected.
When the phone is connected in USB data mode, you should see a new drive appear on the PC.
These are just very basic things but just covering them as we progress through to a solution.
PC Companion is a good app to start with to restore the phone back to stock firmware.
Another Sony Application is Sony [Ericsson] Update Service(SEUS) Sony Update Service
Sony Update Service just focuses on the firmware update and does not have the PC suite and Tools of the extended PC Companion application.
SEUS may provide the 'kick' the PC needs to request access to look for SEMC USB drivers to establish phone/PC connection.
There is also Flashtool.
This will still need the PC to provide USB drivers, which is should prompt for, but could require manual driver configuration.
In the Flashtool folder there is a driver install app that prompts for drivers of a given phone, but this is not always a 100% sure fire solution.
So, I'd check using SEUS to start with and see if things improve.
Thanks mate.
I did SEUS and it said the phone was up to date.
I tried again to use Sony pc companion.
I get to the part where it says drop down the menu and tap usb then mount.
The phone does not do that.
When I drop down the menu all I get is usb debugging.
When I plug into pc via usb lead I see an icon which says cd drive I but I can not open the drive.

Xperia Z2 Interface has stopped Error.

Hello there!
So, my son played minecraft on my phone yesterday and somehow made it upgrade to the latest stock firmware (6.0?).
And now when I boot it up I get a black screen and a small box saying (in swedish) "Unfortunately the interface has stopped",
and every time I click "OK" it comes back up again. I can't access recovery either, plus, when I plug it in to my PC it's recognized
as my Z2, but I have no access to either the memorycard or the phone storage.
I have tried using ADB to make it go into recovery, but the command window just say "Waiting for device" and does nothing, or
say that the device is unauthorized.
Sony PC Companion says that I have to "Swipe down and choose MTP".
So I can't get into the settings on the phone, can't use ADB, and no access to the recovery menu.
Previous CFW was eXistenZ 5.1.1 (I think) with the TWRP recovery.
Can anyone help me get this baby back functional again?
When you (or your son) update to Android 6, you lost the recovery, that have it before.*
Now, connect the phone to computer with Pc Companion for example and repair the software.*
Program Pc Companion will guide you for steps that need to REPAIR your phone.

Like I wrote in the first post, PC Companion only tells me to "Swipe down and choose MTP".
No matter what I do in that program, it doesn't connect with the phone.
The issue has been solved.
I downloaded Xperia Companion, when it told me to activate the MTP function again.
So I removed the USB cable, clicked Software Repair and skipped along.
Then I plugged the phone back in and waited while it was initializing the repair.
After about 10 minutes it told me to remove the USB cable and turn off the phone.
So I did that, then it said to hold the Vol Down button while plugging it back in.
After that it began the software repair which lasted about 1 hour, and now it's on 6.0.1
fully functional.
That's what I recommend you do the program Pc Companion, but ultimately you deal with the new program of Sony, Xperia Companion, I'm glad you're able to handle.
