Damn it that Knox crap. What's the point, I am stock. I can't even flash a Mod. Because I am root they knife me in the back.
Tell me there's no way back except ODIN back.
Added ability to roam on telus network. Got it last night. Also freaking patches the kernel so the saferoot method no longer works

it's probably just a way for them to try and lock the phone back down before the 4.4 release.
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/3/?download=29193
looks like 4.4.2 is released to those nordic countries for the n7105. the people on the att note2 forums are playing with it. Hoping for a port if everything goes well for them.
This update its very telling. A simple roaming fix that also kills root. Looking like my last samsung phone and maybe the end of VZ for me.
There's a pdf you can view before you download the update. it lists an update for Galaxy Gear, improvements for wifi, maps, voicemail notifications, bunch of other crap. comes with amazon appstore preloaded. im not rooted so i guess i'll go ahead and download it lol.
theyve been killing root with every update. id be more surprised if they allowed root to stay.

I keep getting bugged to do the OTA..
I don't want it...
I guess I need to start a new thread and find out how to stop the OTA if I am not rooted.
So the numbers did not change? I am on 4.3 now...
I got the message to update today so pulled the battery.

The only thing I care about is My free WiFi Hot Spot.
The last update KILLED my free FoxFi hot spot. But I was able to get it to work again by
(1) turning the phone off,
(2) removed the SIM card,
(3) retried FoxFi, without the SIM card, That got me passed Verizon's Subscription Check and Allowed FoxFi to install a security certificate.
(4) turned the phone back off and reinstalled the SIM card.
(5) turned the phone back on and my FREE WiFi Hot Spot has been working every since.
Could someone that has already taken the latest update try this and let me know if it will work ?

Update and root.
Just wanted to say, I was rooted running the stock rom and I took the OTA update this morning. I still have root access according to Super SU and Root Explorer. I have no idea about Foxfi, I don't use it.
I just downloaded and installed FoxFi, and while I'll admit I'm not familiar with the app, I got it set up on my phone and was able to connect and surf the web on my sons tablet. I didn't have to use the steps in the post above though. Hope that helps?
Please tell me.

the only way that I understand on flashing a new rom <touchjizz only> is using hashcode's safestrap after rooting, I have no idea how to go about this though, I'm still unlocked on 4.1.2 bootloader running an AOSP rom, lol. knock on wood my phone won't screw up and I have to warranty it out for a "brand new" <insert refurbished> stock 4.3 Note II.

Okay so I am running a rom on my samsung vibrant and I heard that froyo is being pushed out OTA tomorrow. What do I have to do to get back to stock so I can receive the update. Or will I even be able to receive the update.

I would assume odin to stock jfd then to ji6 should be enough to receive the update. I wouldn't try and update from a custom rom (that would almost assuredly result in a softbrick). Also I wouldn't hold your breath. Wait till tomorrow to find out the truth and worst case scenario I'm sure the update will be packaged into a cwm flashable zip or odin tar file soon after release.
I asked the same question in the General section, got a few very good answers.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=922008
Bottom line, it is not safe to try to DL the OTA if our phone's somehow even are able to receive them. Some people have said if you are rooted, but have no custom ROM then you might be ok.

Samsung sent its base 2.2 upgrade to T-Mobile in late November after stating "SOON" back in JULY (4 months is not soon folks, 4 days is SOON) and now T-mobile after being forced to speak-up that they have had it for over 7 weeks. Guess CUSTOMER angry postings got their attention to lie some more, wifi calling has been out for a very LONG time at XDA (keeping with their model not to say the specific amount of time). FIRE THIS GUY and maybe Management will wake-up, if it does not hurt, put fear in the folks deciding, they will not do anything until it effects them. If we keep protesting MAYBE heads will roll and they will stop treating customers so poorly.
Definition of "soon" (adverb) = not long after the present time; quickly. BTW, adverbs often tell when, where, why, or under what conditions something happens or happened.
I really hope they will improve the signal strength!
So if i only rooted (was about to try other roms) will i need to un-root for the update?
I read somewhere that you only need to delete a file or two on / directory to unroot, but cant find that thread... anyone know what im referring to?
Hey all,
I have been unable to update my sister's bolt to ICS since it started rolling out a couple days ago. The phone is stock rooted with S-on and has an unlocked 1.05 hboot. I have done nothing to the phone except debloat. The recovery is stock. When I go to settings/software update and select check new, it appears as if it checks for a couple seconds but the popup saying whether or not it has new software to download never appears. I know with the galaxy nexus I was able to force pull the update by clearing the data for settings and turning airplane mode on and off of something ridiculous like that. Is there anything I can do with the bolt to get this thing to update? When I gave my sis the phone I tried to set it up so it could take the big ics update once it arrived (back in September ) so this is bothering me that the phone won't update.
Thanks for any help.
The reason is because you debloated. The update requires that ALL stock apps be on the phone at the time of the update. If they aren't there it will fail. If I were you I would get s off and flash the ics that Santod posted in the dev section.

Hey all,
As some of you have already noted, an update is available for the Samsung Galaxy SII.
The update includes fixes for devices that may become unresponsive and/or power down while sitting idle on rare occasions. It also enhances security to protect against malware vulnerability. You will receive a notification on your phone to update.
NOTE - You must have updated to Android version 4.0 to receive notification of the new software update
From community manager on ATT forums:

What a complete waste. Sprint just pushed 4.1.2 to their gs2.

Had my hopes up for JB even though I know the phone will not get it from AT&T.
I guess it is good that they are still trying to improve the phone.

There's at least as much cya and marketing motivation involved as anything else.
I previously rooted and flashed Siyah 4.3.3 which resolved my issue with the sleep of death. This seems to prevent this new update from installing as when the phone reboots it shows the Siyah boot image and then boots back into the OS, when I unlock the phone it tells me that the update failed to install. I'm not in a hurry to install an update that resolves something I've fixed through other means, but I thought I'd share for those interested.

You really shouldn't accept OTA updates unless you are 100% stock.

You really CAN'T accept them if you remove system bloat ware or change kernels far as I know.
Hopefully it fixes the SOD problem. I was getting ready to call or go to AT&T and demand I be let out of my contract.

This has been happening to me for the past few months, on more than "rare occassions" though. I never knew what to call it until I saw people on here refer to it as Sleep of Death. Yep, sounds about right. And it would rapidly drain my battery when it happened.
I've successfully updated, so hopefully this will take care of it. It gets VERY annoying! And all the much worse since I use my phone for my alarm, haha. I have my wife's as a backup though.
Anyone pull the modem yet?

I'm only a curious now, about whether this fixes the SOD. After hours on the phone with ATT and Samsung, and a few factory resets and a new phone, it was still doing it. And each time I called them about it, they'd say they were not aware of such a problem. Anyway, not an issue anymore for me, since going to Task's AOKP ROM, which got me so many better features than an ATT update ever would have - warranty or no.
The only reason why this OTA was pushed was because a ton of users were posting this issue on the ATT forums for 4 months straight. Even then ATT pushes an OTA for 4.0.4 instead of using one of the many 4.1.2 firmwares from Samsung.

My understanding is that it is up to Samsung to produce the firmware, and because it's a carrier-branded device, I have a hard time believing that they'd do that unless instructed to.
Really? You think Samsung is the one making the decision? Its really the carrier.
Can someone pull the modem from this update? Pm or post a download link once extracted please.

So, I get my replacement phone from the insurance company, and of course it's 4.3 software. Here is the interesting thing. I keep getting "internet unstable" messages, and I never got the with OTA 4.3.
I did however get them when I went to Bean's 4.3 leak. Could it be possible someone flashed Bean's or some other earlier leak, and the insurance company would see 4.3?
If somehow what I just posted above is actually true what would my risks be, and could I just try putting a custom recover on?

Don't think it has Beans flashed on it.. you would see it in the build description or build prop if that is the case.
The message your getting is a known thing on 4.3.. it happens on every 4.3 rom as far I know unless it is disabled or removed..
I don't think it's an issue it just simply stating that wifi is in and out..

If you are rooted you can go into Titanium backup and Freeze SDM.
I just got my i545 and had the same issue. The new phone (bought off Ebay) has MJ7 and the 4.4 update was beating me to death.
I rooted with the method in the General forum sticky. Then, I paid for the Titanium Backup registration key. With that, I could freeze FWUpgrade.apk and SDM.apk. No more prompting.
I added Safestrap after that. use the 3.71 version linked in Hashcode's thread (Safestrap-JFLTEVZW-3.71.apk). With this, I could get the 4.3 to activate Hotspot tethering ( I am still on grandfathered Unlimited). Voila, everything works just the way i want it to.
I am unsure if I want to go to 4.4 at this point. I would eventually like to have CM11. But, with 4.3 and tethering working, I am pretty satisfied with this phone already. It is miles ahead of my HTC Thunderbolt.

You don't need safestrap for tethering but if it works it works right? 4.4 isn't anything special anyway and you'll probably never be able to flash CM or any AOSP ROM anyway.
