Okay so I am running a rom on my samsung vibrant and I heard that froyo is being pushed out OTA tomorrow. What do I have to do to get back to stock so I can receive the update. Or will I even be able to receive the update.

I would assume odin to stock jfd then to ji6 should be enough to receive the update. I wouldn't try and update from a custom rom (that would almost assuredly result in a softbrick). Also I wouldn't hold your breath. Wait till tomorrow to find out the truth and worst case scenario I'm sure the update will be packaged into a cwm flashable zip or odin tar file soon after release.
I asked the same question in the General section, got a few very good answers.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=922008
Bottom line, it is not safe to try to DL the OTA if our phone's somehow even are able to receive them. Some people have said if you are rooted, but have no custom ROM then you might be ok.

Samsung sent its base 2.2 upgrade to T-Mobile in late November after stating "SOON" back in JULY (4 months is not soon folks, 4 days is SOON) and now T-mobile after being forced to speak-up that they have had it for over 7 weeks. Guess CUSTOMER angry postings got their attention to lie some more, wifi calling has been out for a very LONG time at XDA (keeping with their model not to say the specific amount of time). FIRE THIS GUY and maybe Management will wake-up, if it does not hurt, put fear in the folks deciding, they will not do anything until it effects them. If we keep protesting MAYBE heads will roll and they will stop treating customers so poorly.
Definition of "soon" (adverb) = not long after the present time; quickly. BTW, adverbs often tell when, where, why, or under what conditions something happens or happened.
I really hope they will improve the signal strength!
So if i only rooted (was about to try other roms) will i need to un-root for the update?
I read somewhere that you only need to delete a file or two on / directory to unroot, but cant find that thread... anyone know what im referring to?
I was running SHOstock2 v5.4 for a while when I found out that I simply stopped receiving incoming texts. The weird part was that outgoing still worked fine, I just never saw new ones come in. Before realizing I could fix it via software, I had AT&T reactivate my phone, as well as replace the SIM card. In any case, I have been using SHOstock2 basically since it came out (RC3?) and this is the first time I've ever had a problem like this.
Thinking it might be a ROM glitch, I reflashed v5.4 over top, without a wipe. No dice.
Next was the kernel, I flashed Siyah v4.3.3 w/ MS. No dice.
I wiped and went back to AT&T's stock UCLE5 and got a bunch of texts. Hazah.
After that, I flashed back to v5.4, restored all my apps/data, and continued being able to text... but only for a day or so.
I wiped and went back to v5.2, which I'd used for a month or so before jumping to v5.4. I've been slowly restoring apps (sometimes with data, mostly without) as I need them.
Today, I went back to not being able to receive texts. The only thing I can think of that changed today was an update to ExTweaks, but I can't imagine that's related?
I guess the only thing I haven't messed with yet is the modem, which might make sense, but I don't know enough about those to start trying new ones. Moreover, I don't understand why it would work for a while and then bomb out. I see that SHOstock2 v6.0 is out now, so maybe I'll upgrade to that tonight and see if I have any better luck with that.
So, assuming it comes back, where do I look next? Is there any logging I should turn on, or logs I can check, or something? I can't tolerate having to reflash weekly, particularly knowing that it worked for a *long* time before.

There's gotta be some aspect about it that has to do with SHOstock2, though ... as soon as I go back to a stock ICS ROM, no issue. I did it again last night and then flashed to SHOstock2 v6.0. All good so far, no apps/data restored yet. v6.0 came with a lot more apps than v5.4, needs some de-bloat - might be from Google backup, though, since I had just come from a stock ROM.

I was using whatever came with v5.4, and v5.2 (separately). SHOstock2 v6.0 comes with baseband I777UCLD4.
edit: v5.4 was using UCLD4 as well. v5.2 might have been UCLE5? Hard to tell from the changelog.

Earlier in another thread it was said APN's have no effect on text, just mms.
But for other reasons, I tried to use that and other similar apn's on my Sii running Shostock 6.0. It only allows you to select 3 different "apn type" which aren't in the suggested post.

Thanks for the suggestion, but as moopile pointed out messing with your APN will only change MMS behavior. However, if the problem crops up again I may give it a try anyway. I'm on SHOstock2 v6.0 now, but I haven't run tibu to get any of my apps back yet...

Interesting.... Doesn't make sense but anything is possible.
I had this issue on Mystik's Rom as well. Actually was on aberration the first time it happened, Mystik's the second. Both times flashing an i777 based Rom fixed the issue. I had it set up to dual boot semi and aberration. Aberration was my daily driver, but when I stopped getting texts I would just boot into semi and they would come through. After the third time I just went to semi as my daily driver and haven't had any issues since. Don't know if it has to do with semi being based on an official AT&T release vs an international release. All I know is it works.

It might have something to do with it but I don't know. It doesn't make sense to me. The funny thing is it happened to both my wife and I at the same time. It hasn't happened again since but we'll see. I'm hoping it happens on a weekend so I can just try a ton of stuff.

Hey all,
As some of you have already noted, an update is available for the Samsung Galaxy SII.
The update includes fixes for devices that may become unresponsive and/or power down while sitting idle on rare occasions. It also enhances security to protect against malware vulnerability. You will receive a notification on your phone to update.
NOTE - You must have updated to Android version 4.0 to receive notification of the new software update
From community manager on ATT forums:

There's at least as much cya and marketing motivation involved as anything else.
I previously rooted and flashed Siyah 4.3.3 which resolved my issue with the sleep of death. This seems to prevent this new update from installing as when the phone reboots it shows the Siyah boot image and then boots back into the OS, when I unlock the phone it tells me that the update failed to install. I'm not in a hurry to install an update that resolves something I've fixed through other means, but I thought I'd share for those interested.

This has been happening to me for the past few months, on more than "rare occassions" though. I never knew what to call it until I saw people on here refer to it as Sleep of Death. Yep, sounds about right. And it would rapidly drain my battery when it happened.
I've successfully updated, so hopefully this will take care of it. It gets VERY annoying! And all the much worse since I use my phone for my alarm, haha. I have my wife's as a backup though.
Anyone pull the modem yet?

I'm only a curious now, about whether this fixes the SOD. After hours on the phone with ATT and Samsung, and a few factory resets and a new phone, it was still doing it. And each time I called them about it, they'd say they were not aware of such a problem. Anyway, not an issue anymore for me, since going to Task's AOKP ROM, which got me so many better features than an ATT update ever would have - warranty or no.
The only reason why this OTA was pushed was because a ton of users were posting this issue on the ATT forums for 4 months straight. Even then ATT pushes an OTA for 4.0.4 instead of using one of the many 4.1.2 firmwares from Samsung.

My understanding is that it is up to Samsung to produce the firmware, and because it's a carrier-branded device, I have a hard time believing that they'd do that unless instructed to.
Really? You think Samsung is the one making the decision? Its really the carrier.
Can someone pull the modem from this update? Pm or post a download link once extracted please.

Tons of drop calls after flashing to NAB. Then i tried Carbon Nightlies but did not use long enough to know if it has the same problem. Then have been on SACS kk ever since. It happens consistently with the Official NAB and SACS.
I do want to add that after deciding that I wanted to go back to 4.3, I attempted to flash back, several attempts, and several methods. I don't remember exactly what I flashed (months ago). I am beginning to second guess whether I might have flashed the wrong thing, maybe wrong radio or something.
If I post shots of my aboutPhone details, is it possible to identify what might be potentially causing this?
From my understanding you can not go back to 4.3 after flashing to NAB. It is odd that you are having these issues because I am running sacs and s5 port and I'm not having any issues what so ever. Post your about phone. Maybe someone can see from that. Gotta start somewhere.

You can always try to use older Basebands/Modems. Some users have reported that the MJ4 or NAB basebands work better in their area than the NC5 ones.
You need to first install the Engineering Bootloader. Then you can use ODIN to flash the desired Baseband.
I'm o KitKat Killer 4 NC5 and only get about 2 dropped calls a day.. I'm willing to bet this is a tower issue, rather than a software issue..

Thanks for the tip. Is it ok to use the MJ4 baseband while on NC5? I do want to try it since thats what the phone was shipped with and it worked fine out of the box for 2 days lol.
It's funny, I used to drop calls all the time in the same area. After the update I don't drop calls in that area, but now in 2 other areas every time, it's like clockwork. Usually when 4g signal is really low, amybe it's when it tries to switch to 3g it looses the call. IDK, my S4 never dropped calls and I travel the same routes to and from work.

The only thing I care about is My free WiFi Hot Spot.
The last update KILLED my free FoxFi hot spot. But I was able to get it to work again by
(1) turning the phone off,
(2) removed the SIM card,
(3) retried FoxFi, without the SIM card, That got me passed Verizon's Subscription Check and Allowed FoxFi to install a security certificate.
(4) turned the phone back off and reinstalled the SIM card.
(5) turned the phone back on and my FREE WiFi Hot Spot has been working every since.
Could someone that has already taken the latest update try this and let me know if it will work ?

Just wanted to say, I was rooted running the stock rom and I took the OTA update this morning. I still have root access according to Super SU and Root Explorer. I have no idea about Foxfi, I don't use it.
I just downloaded and installed FoxFi, and while I'll admit I'm not familiar with the app, I got it set up on my phone and was able to connect and surf the web on my sons tablet. I didn't have to use the steps in the post above though. Hope that helps?
