Phone won't charge with factory cable (plot twist) - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

Hey guys I woke up to see my phone fully charged. After browsing on it until about 1130 it was about 80%. I work night so I decided to plug it in and give it a full charge (I know its not good for the battery). It said charger not comparable with this device? Wtf? So I pulled the battery out and the water indicator stickers under and on the batter and red X's on them.. The thing is I've had this phone for less then 3 weeks, been in a case since the first minute I've had it, and its NEVER been near water. EVER. So I went into recover wiped the cache. Its now charging but what should I do now? I'm just stumped that the water damage indicators are activated on the battery and under it but its never been close to any water, not even my sink.. Advice?
Thanks

I'd say since you haven't had the phone even a month I'd bring it back to where you got it and show them..

The battery sticker is meant to have red X's; when activated (i.e. water damage), it turns solid red.

Major battery woes...

So I am on my second battery right now. The first one just decided it shouldnt turn on. I could plug the charger in and the notification light wouldnt turn on, pull the battery and it would. Well, now my second battery is doing the samething. I had left it on the charger while I was outside doing stuff, came in in the afternoon, dead phone. Pulled and replaced battery a few times, phone still wouldnt turn on. Then I plugged in the charger and no notification light would come on. So I finally pulled the battery and with the battery out I plugged in the charger and then the notification light would come on. What the hell is going on here?
Anyone else have these problems? Now I have to drive 30+ miles one way to my nearest Verizon store to replace this damn thing and I am not happy about this one bit. Anyone on here have any suggestions for me?

If you bought it from Verizon and not second hand, then you have 1 year warranty. I suggest you call Verizon's customer service and speak with them and get a replacement sent. I've done this multiple times with just about every phone I've had. 1800-922-0804 is what I dial. to get to them, press 0, then press 0 again, and it will ask for your account password, then a rep will get on the phone.
best of luck.
If the phone is older than 30 days, or maybe it's 14 now with Verizon, they give you a refurbished phone, if you are over that period and went to the store I'm pretty positives all they would do is order you the replacement refurb phone. 30+ miles each way is a hike, save the gas money

Just had my Rezound battery die last night. It was freezing outside and my battery was at 1%. The screen just went blank. When I got home, plugged in the charger. The notification led came on for 3 seconds then went back off again. Tried several chargers I had and pulling the battery and plugging it in.
Weird.
Verizon has the 14 day return/exchange policy now. I was at 12 days so I just went in and they replaced the battery with a brand new one from a Rezound box. I assume they will send that unit back RMA. My phone works now.
You're not the only person having battery death issues. Not sure why this is a problem on the Rezound. I recently purchased an extended battery ironically. It will be arriving tomorrow.
Here's to hoping that it won't die. I should buy some spares just in case. Make sure you call customer service and report the issue. It is tracked.
I was also having an issue charging from a dead battery (would charge just fine otherwise). The charging indicator would not stay lit, but after giving it 10 minutes or so, repeated attempts to power on would eventually work and then it would charge normally.
Had this happen several times and then reflashed the stock image. Seems to be working as it should now. However, when I got my phone it had a dead battery it wouldn't charge. So we'll see what happens.
Note: was running Senseless 1.0 and de-bloated. Stock rom kernel. If it matters....I probably didn't get a clean install when doing it all.
Rezound has a known issue that if the battery dies to far you'll need something else to charge the battery. Some people have used their old thunderbolts to give it a pre charge, buy the stand alone charger from Verizon. Or just don't let your phone discharge tthat far.

Good to know - is that all or most Rezounds? Because I wonder if I should swap mine while I still can.
Like I said, I was having that issue and after flashing the stock RUU (updated one, .6) my phone is charging a dead battery just fine (2 for 2 so far, fingers crossed).
Actually brand new in the store mine had a dead battery and it would not charge, so they gave me a new battery. Perhaps there was a fix in that updated RUU. It's just a suggestion - after I confirm this works consistently I'll see what happens with some other roms.
Alternatively, it's also possible the stock RUU doesn't let you drain the battery as far as the roms do. I was able to power back on several times until it finally wouldn't (and no led flashing at that point), but now it charges from there.
Yea, I woke up one morning and my phone was deader than a door nail. Popped on the charger and no notification light, called Verizon to whine and prepared to stop by the store to get a replacment battery. However just for kicks I plug the phone back on the charger (ok my laptop) and after 1/2 hour the notification light popped back on and the battery started to charge. Now Prior I was having a high rate of discharged getting about 2 hours of use and 5 on standby (airplane on, WiFi and Data off) and still having the high rate of discharge. I started to investigate why the phone was getting hot and discharging so fast. Now I couldn't fine the culprit (I think WIFI was the cause) but I just did a factory reset, reloaded my rom and kernal and poof, everything return to normal including much longer discharge rates and I'm much happier now (Adult Beverages and household chemicals indigestation).
If you go to HTC's website it actually has a faq on this. Their response goes pretty much like this. If you drain your battery till the phone shuts off, plug your phone in. It will flash the notification light then there will be no charging light. The light could take 20 minutes or more to turn on. I also had this problem like you guys but just put it on charge over night and it will be fine. Just don't kill it to 0 anymore.
Found the Quote: My phone won’t power on. What can I do? close
If your phone will not power on, your battery may be drained or not seated correctly.
Tips:
If the battery is completely dead, the phone will need to charge for a few minutes and then should power on once this happens. When plugging the phone into the charging, the notification light may not light up immediately as the battery is completely dead. Let it charge for about 20 minutes before trying to power on.
Make sure you are using the AC charger that was supplied with your phone

battery discharges while plugged in and using it
ok, so this happened with the stock rom, and two other roms i had.
What would happen is if you plug the phone in, and use it, you would expect it to charge while you are using it. It did on my dinc. it actually discharges while you use it and it is plugged into the supplied charger.
This is not a good thing. I am wondering if anyone else is having a similar experience.
One interesting side note.
I installed rezrom recently, and after the initial install i didn't experience this problem and got a 24 hour charge out of the battery. Now on my second charge only lasted 7 hours, and i get that drain while plugged in again.
Are you using the stock charger or a different one? You might not be charging at 1amp.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda premium
I am using the stock charger. I have two actually, one from my dinc, which also supply 1 amp of power
That's really crappy and definitely an issue they need to address. My Rezound sucks on the battery like a wine-o on a Friday night, but it's never gotten to the point of blacking out.
I am just interested to know if anyone else is experiencing this issue of it being plugged in and not charging when u surf the net, but actually discharges.
The whole issue of it not powering up for 15 minutes after it dies is a bunch of crap too. my dinc does not do this, and god forbid that my phone dies in an emergency situation and i need to get a hold of someone fast!
oh i forgot to add that i called VZW and complained about this, and they going to send a new battery. Something tells me this won't resolve this issue though
I have the official HTC 2750 battery and Its been good except 2 mornings I woke up to an unresponsive phone with no charge notification after plugging it in.. Pulling the battery and reinstalling let me start the phone up. I have had this phone/battery combo for 2 weeks.. should I try to get a replacement battery or is this normal. There have been two different answers here and I want to do the right thing here...

So you are saying the phone died, then refused to charge on the extended battery?

Yes, exactly. Not sure if it was entirely discharged. I'll leave it off the charger tonight and see if it does it again by morning. I'll let you know battery % once I get it booted.

[Q] Phone got wet, help please!

so my phone got wet.. probably something was spilled over it or something...
anyway it shut down immediately (obvious)
i've opened the battery and pulled it out and i had water there.. i've dried it with a napkin as best as i could and power it on.. id didnt work
i've tried to plug it in the charger (probably shouldnt but was in panic heh) and i got the boot logo and the battery showed 5 precent.. i've waited a couple of minutes and it went up and up.. then i booted the phone... everything worked fine.. thought it was over and all was good.
then after 30 minutes or so i've unpluged the phone and after maybe 5 minutes it shut down (battery showed like 30 precent)
anyway.. i've then dried it some more with a hair drier but still the phone didnt boot
every time i connect the charger it shows 5% but doesnt move from it.. always on 5%..
When plugged in i can try to boot up but i see the M logo and after a few seconds it shuts down, nothing happens
I also can enter recovery or RSD or all the things...
What can i do?? is that the battery thats faulty? or the phone is gone? what can i try??
Well you have probably ended up frying something by turning it on while it was wet. I think you should let it dry out completely and then try to boot it up. If it still doesn't boot its a goner.
Google ways how to dry it. One way is to put it in a bag of rice for 2 days.

Towards the right of the SIM card, there is a whole in the plastic that has a moisture indicator spot, if that is white, then things are goodish, but if it is red??? then you may be in bad shape. Also, on the underside of the battery, there is another indicator, it should be mostly white with red + all over it, however if it is all red??? then the batter may be a goner. However, electronics these days are protected from some type of moisture, so it may just be still wet on the inside and may just need to be dried up.
To dry up electronics, as mentioned, a bag of dry rice is a great moisture sucker. Otherwise if you have an abundance of silica gel packets laying around, you can toss the phone into a container with those and let them sit for a few days.
However, you did you a hair drier, to that I say good luck. That kind of direct intense heat is horrible for most electronics, there is a very good chance you have destroyed some other internal component, and you probably won't be using your ATRIX any longer.
The issues you are running into are hardware related and the fact you can power on the phone at all surprises me. If you have a warranty plan that supports water damage, you can try reaching out to them and see what they want to do to help you, but considering you blasted a hair dryer at it, I would be very surprised.
take the battery, sim, sdcard, etc out and put in dry rice.
You plugged it into the charger, so game over imo. Whether it turns on or not you have damaged it. Better to cut your losses and look for a new phone. Done it myself.

Thanks for the replies.. An update for the situation..
I've waited more for the phone to dry and rest and then my girlfriend (her phone actually) started to mess with it and somehow turned it on and it actually works now.
The spot near the sim is white but the spot on the battery is totally red..
Now the strange thing is that the phone indicator shows that there is 5 percent left but when I looked at the battery voltage it showed 4196.. In the morning I checked the voltage and it was 4100 and the indicator showed 1%..
What's up with that??
Is the battery ruined? Or something else? Im going to buy a new one anyway but still...
Using neutrino 2.7 EE
You may have got lucky and just ruined the battery. Watch for corrosion on the connectors in the phone for battery, sim, and sdcard. That may be the next problem if a new battery works out.

Water Damage

Hello everyone, so ive dropped my SGS2 in water 4 days ago, its wasnt fully submerged, only the part where my charger is located and only for about a second because i was quick to react. Took it out and noticed that the battery indicator was showing as if the phone was being charged, i blew on the charger entry point(with my mouth) for 5 seconds, and the problem went away. Next morning i wake up, late for work, with that exclamation mark and temperature gauge on my screen. I took out the battery (3500mah chinese that was in the phone while i dropped it in water), put my original samsung battery in it, and the phone started working agaiin, drove to work while charging it, all was ok, then the battery died and i cant charge it anymore. After work, got home, put it in rice for 3 days, now i check, still doesnt wanna charge with original samsung battery, but when i put the chinese battery, the screen turns on and i get the same old exclamation mark and the thermometer.
Weird thing is, my original samsung battery didnt give me the same screen that my chinese battery is giving me now.
Should i try the "fan trick", or do you think the damage is severe due to me trying to charge it while it was still wet??
When electronics hit water, always let the gadget dry in altleast 3-4 days before thinking about turning it on.

If you're talking about repairs with samsung and they even think that it's water damage they won't fix it / charge you for it.

Phone won't start up anymore!!

So, I left my phone in this girl's car like 2 weeks ago. She just found it today and dropped it off!! I plugged it in to charge, but it just keeps on turning on to the battery charging screen, stays there for about 2 seconds, then shuts down. I've left it to sit for about 1 hour, and still nothing is happening. I tried taking out the battery and pluggin in the AC power, but the buttons on the phone light up for half a second, and thenj go black. It does this time after time after time.
Nothing was wrong with the phone the last time I had it, and the girl says its been under her seat for the last 2 weeks. Any ideas on what I can do to get this thing to start up correctly?
Anyone?
See if it boots recovery.

My Roomba does that if it has not been plugged in while not in use. It discharges completely and loses 'memory' I guess. You could try
1. charging battery in a different phone and then try your phone
2. Try a new battery.
Have you tried leaving the phone overnite charging?
Buy a cheap wall charger to charge your battery off the phone.

I like toasters too!
Two weeks in a car, in California. Obviously charge is prevalent issue, but I've personally left my tablet, and spare phones dead for several weeks at a time, and never had that issue when I decided to recharge. Depending on your location in cali (south?) I'd say it's probly heat damage. Or if she drives like all the women I know in California, it's also likely that it's been bounced around a good deal. Try all the advice on regaining charge here, but if that falls, I'd jump straight to a physical diagnostic

Note 3 won't turn on

I had a low battery and had been using my phone at work. I thought I had about 10% left, but looked at my phone and it was off. No, problem I have a usb cord and plug into my work computer to charge it, but no luck. The charging display doesn't come on at all. So, I tried using the same cord with the ad adapter, but same thing. When I first tried it it looked like it was trying to load up, but froze up on the first screen that comes on. So, I pulled the battery, but I am getting absolutely nothing so far. It has been on the charger for about 30 minutes now. What gives? I think I am within my 14 day period at Best buy, maybe it's a battery or phone issue. Of all the days and times it had to be today when I have plans after work, but looks like I have a date with Best Buy instead now. any ideas?
Well that was disappointing. Thankfully it was replaced without a problem. I wonder if it was from the battery dying. I tested the old battery and it powered the new one. Not sure what happened or if that's a first. I hate I lost everything on it.

I remember on my NOTE 2 once my battery died while driving. I tried to plug in my car charger and power it back up but I guess the charger wasn't providing enough juice so I let it charge for like 20 minutes and the phone powered up.
Point is if the battery is totally dead it has to charge for a bit before you can power on the phone...even with a wall charger.
