Hi folks, I was wondering if anyone out there is using the SmartBand SWR10 provided with the phone. I am eager to know how much battery is it utilizing on the phone. And are you connecting it via NFC or bluetooth. Thanks.
Batt 5 days. Nfc and BT.

NFC is only for pairing.
If you're asking how much battery it does on the phone... Well, it uses as much battery as the Bluetooth does.
Basically battery life won;t noticeable decrease. And you can always turn off BT and disconnect the bad, it will still log your actions, sleep, wake you up etc.

apologies i meant battery utilization on the phone so you mean that once the device is paired i dont require bluetooth and it just records the events via nfc??

No. NFC is just used for pairing the device All other connections go through Bluetooth. Once the device is paired you don't require NFC anymore.
Well, you could just pair it via Bluetooth and don't use NFC at all.

I'm using it and I'm quite happy. Battery life for me is 4 days (the application shows 5days, but I guess I use the band more often then a standard user). Charging the core is really fast.
The only thing that worries me is that after a good shower the core inside the strap is a little bit wet. Makes me wonder if the SWR10 is going to really waterproof for a longer period.

Average 4 days with extra vibrations than normal.

So, will the Smartband work even if it is not paired and the bluetooth on my Z2 is turned off?

Yes. Very annoying.

Yes, seems to be fairly normal on this device (at least the CDMA version) as this was also an issue on the Sprint EVO. A lot of power is required to use both the GPS and Data at the same time for a long period of time. Definitely will warm the phone up, especially if you have it connected to a charger.
The power drain from the GPS radio and Data usage (WiFi or Cellular radio) can be more than some chargers supply and leave the device in a power draining state even though it is plugged in while using both of these radios at the same time.
No real work around for this from what I've seen, it seems to be a hardware power consumption issue.
Perhaps there might be some tweaks or tips to mitigate this issue but the best solution I've found is to not use GPS and Data simultaneously for too long ... A good battery and temperature monitoring widget I use to watch this information is the BatteryLife widget for free in the Android Market.
Hope that helps!
Your phone will always get hot when under a lot of use (GPS, YouTube, games, etc)...computers have fans, phones do not
Well, what I do is, I have a nice phone holder (it was originally a gps car holder), and I use it in a way so as the ac vent from the car, blows air directly to the back of the phone, and after that, I never had any more heating problems (even after hours of non stop road use while traveling)

Turn down the transmission (Tx) power if you don't mind losing a little bit of signal. This is irrelevant if your device(s) are within close proximity to the phone anyway.

Ok, I'll give it a try. Do you also experience battery drain even while charging when using full transmission power?
Mine works without drain. When I'm gonna use it for a long time I lay it on an ice pack to avoid heating.

Depends what else I'm doing. If you minimize power consumption otherwise (screen off, only 3G on, end background apps such as music streaming or navigation), you should be about even with power draw/charge. Note that if you use 4G to tether wirelessly (after rooting), that will drain more battery than its 3G counterpart. The stock charger is rated at 850mA so there really should not be any issues.

I leave 4g on and tether and I never see it drain. It may be slower to charge but never seen it drain. Also my phone doesn't get hot just a little warm but that's bout it

I looked around the Settings in Wifi Tether for this but didn't find anything about the Tx power. Are you referring to the phone's Tx power?
I finally did a real test of this app while traveling this weekend and it felt overheated to the touch. I had it plugged into my computer via USB cable and it wasn't charging b/c it was so hot.
Is the Tx power reduction the best way to help this heating problem? I was really disappointed that the battery stopped keeping a charge and only after a few minutes, literally just about 10 minutes of running the tether app. This is the same thing that happened on my Touch Pro and I was hoping that this wouldn't happen when I upgraded to Android!

Thanks for the heads up, I see there's a little section for transmission power there. That said, after I install it, it says I have the ability to change Access Control, whatever that means.
Also, It doesn't appear to have a WPA Encryption method. I am not a fan of WEP. Is this an ongoing development that will eventually add WPA? I looked for a FAQ but it doesn't exist anymore.
So if my bluetooth is on and it's not paired to anything, will it drain battery?
I like the convenience of not having to pull my phone out of my pocket when I enter my car. The phone pairs up to the stereo automatically but I'm wondering how much strain it's putting on the battery the rest of the time when it's "on" but not connected to anything.
Now that i think about it, it is probably periodically polling to see what other devices it can see....since it would have to be doing that to "know" that it's now in the car and can connect but how battery heavy is that?
Yes, leaving it on, but not being used will drain the battery.

How much drainage are we talking about here? I guess I should just do a real world comparison and see what the dent is

I can't tell you exactly.
Do a full charge, turn on Bluetooth, unplug charger, and check your battery stats at the end of the day. That much drainage.
Let me know if that helped.
EDIT: There will be a percentage for the Bluetooth.
good call, i'll try that tomorrow.

Hardly any, I've had mine on since release day and haven't noticed much battery drain. Usually streaming Pandora is what drains it for me.
Alright check it out. I've been studying all day so the phone got minimal use today but doesn't look like the battery drains with the bluetooth on that much. I've been running 15 hours now and it's on 71% battery left. Screenshots beloww
good to know, thanks for the report
Yes that's a process that is running in the background and it will have a afect on the battery drain

Thanks for doing that now I can confidently leave my Bluetooth on all day, so like you I can just jump in the car and be off with the beats pumping

^^ I have that turned off too. Nice feature, but I really don't need my watch lit up all the time when I move around and that's what it was doing.
I'm having issues with my phone battery when connected to the gear s. My phone went from 75% to 40% in less than 3hrs with no usage of the phone or watch. It was just paired with the watch. I dont know if its because i turned on call forwarding. Before i turned on call forwarding, the phone's battery was draining at around 3% per hr. Anyone having the same problem. If not, any tips that could help?

How long do you expect the battery watch to last?
Battery*
Battery, Standby
Up to 4 days
Battery, Talk Time
3G: Up to 2 Hrs; BT: Up to 5 Hrs
Battery, Usage
1 - 2 days
Battery Type and Size
300 mAh
Low Usage
Up to 4 days
it would help if people with battery issues gave some additional information. do you have a service plan with the gear s or are you using it simply paired with you smartphone or both. that being said, first start by turning off everything except bluetooth. wifi, gps, mobile data and motion etc are battery killers and should be turned off initially. at this point bring each feature you absolutely need back on line one by one. as you activate each option wait and see how it effects battery drain. i use mine without a service plan and since its paired with my note 2 i have mobile data off, gps off, motion off but wifi on. i have wifi on because the watch will connect automatically to my home network if it loses it's bluetooth connection with the note. after 15 hours i am at 55%. that is with lots of notifications and a few calls on a sunday.

mainly it's to establish where the excessive battery drain is coming from. as you start bringing features back you may wind up with mobile data in auto mode. we don't know enough yet about the battery drain for each feature . the real question is why do they give you the option to turn it on or off. why not just have it done automatically. my guess is the auto function might in itself be a power hog.

I only have mine connected via BT. All other connections are turned off. There has to be some type of synchronisation that is going on constantly for it to be draining my batter in 4hrs. Just not sure what it is.

Update on Battery Life for me
HUGE day of use primarily with notifications and texting. Up and fully charged at 7am and now at 5:30pm I'm still at 48% battery.
On Wifi
BT Tethered
Clock off
Brightness at 60%
Vibrate/no sound
GPS Off - which I think is a HUGE key to success. No need to have it on unless needed anyway.
Very happy.

Silly Rabbit yes keep GPS off unless you need it, it drains the battery to consistently try to locate where you are so it can tell you where you want to go . Maybe turn the brightness down a tad bit more
What about auto brightness? Would that be a battery drain?

On the first full charge I got about 32 hours. But I didn't run or forward any calls.

Hi,
Do you know if it is possible to limit the maximum charge level, like it's possible on Samsung devices? If it's not out of the box, is it possible to achieve that on a rooted device?
It's quite useful feature to preserve your battery life.
Thanks a lot!
All I found in the stock OS is "Optimized Charging" and "Overcharge protection".
First one learns the patter of your charging, pauses at 80% and continues to the 100% some minutes before you usually unplug.
2nd one, quote: limits charging when your device has been plugged in continuously for 3 days.
I dont feel like I need either, the phones charges to 0-100% in ~30 minutes with the charger it came with and the battery lasts for 1.5-2 days with moderate use and turning off services you dont need like bluetooth and localization.
