Missing SMS Content - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Has anyone experienced any issues when restoring their SMS's (I used SMS Backup+) and all the SMS's have absolutely no text in them? I even did a manual import of a csv file and it did the same thing. This happened on a rooted rom as well as non-root stock rom.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

Why don't you just let Google back them up? That's always worked fine for me.

I'm talking about the built-in Settings>Back up and reset>Back up my data and Automatic restore. I never have to "pull them back down" manually.

Ive got all that checked and it's always restored my apps and contacts but never texts. Ive always had to use SMS Backup+ to restore them (or a similar app)

That doesn't backup text messages. It never did for me.

Never worked for me either. I use titanium backup. Works like charm.

I use Titanium Backup and My Backup Pro too just in case, but since KitKat the system has always restored them on its own.

Restore data from Titanium Backup doesn't work

Hi everybody.
I've an european Motorola RAZR and after I've installed SuperUser I tried to restore some app+data.
Apps are restored fine but data are not.
Any idea?
Thank you
Worked perfectly fine for me

I had to set my Titanium to restore to internal memory only, and show the apps as "Side-loaded" instead of integrated into the market....I had to do this too on my Bionic, not sure why though but it worked for me then.
How did you do this?
I realized that some datas were restored fine (Angry Birds) and others not (Astrid)

Its in the preferences of Titanium backup...I think you have to have the paid-for version though...

The bionic does not require that at all.

Hate to break it to you, but as I said MINE did. Both the RAZR and Bionic would start the restore and just stall somewhere before 40% no matter how long I left it, and always on a different app. I don't know why, maybe something to do with my particular backups, but it does require that for me.

Yes I have the paid version.
I've set:
Restore Backup to -> Internal Memory
Mark as installed from... -> Sideloaded
but without luck.

Dang, sorry man! That is what fixed it for me....took forever, but it works. I am out of ideas then. Anyone else?
i have the same problem with titanium. After a time it doesn't restore any app. Some of the apps are restored but i can't find them in the launcher. Weird...
---------- Post added at 09:49 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:43 AM ----------
found something
Open titanium, click menu, click preferences, scroll down to app processing mode, tap it, choose interactive
it is a slower method because you have to hit install for every app but it works! good luck!
This happens to me quite often.. No idea why but uninstalling and reinstalling seems to work.

SMS Backup

I was wondering if anyone else has had the same problem- i back up and restore my sms using GOsms, and once it goes past 10,000 on the restore it totally messes up the modem on whatever rom im using. no data will work at all. i've tried many things to be sure that that is what's causing the problem and it seems to be. anyone else having that issue?

Never used GOsms so I can't comment on that, but I use SMS Backup & Restore and I love it. I've got about 10k messages as well and it never gives me any problems. You can also schedule automatic zero click backups.

yes, use this you can backup your message
You guys message wayy to much
My question is, what the hell do you need to save your SMS's for anyway? Sure the conversations are great and nice.. But when you blow a new ROM on.. Why care about them?
People are just Weird! I had a friend want the new ICS on their Captivate so I put it on there and told him he will lose everything as I dont want to do the work to restore anything for him. And he was fine, did the upgrade for him and he was bummed he lost his SMS messages.. I laughed at him for his sadness..
WHY YOU NO DELETE YOUR SMS'S!!!!

My Backup

I've restored my backups from the app 'My Backup', and all my apps are still there, but I thought it was supposed to save my apps settings too? I've lost save games, opera bookmarks aren't there, whatsapp conversation logs gone. The phone just installed these apps and games as though they'd never been used before. I've also had to redo certain other phone settings that I thought My Backup was meant to take care of. What's up with that? Isn't the idea of a backup app to get your phone to be exactly as it was before a reset, including exactly where you left off in any given app or game?

I think you need root for that app to restore app data and settings.

Damn. Well thanks guys, at least I know. So if I rooted now, do the backups I currently have saved contain my settings, ie, can I still get my settings back, or would the phone have to be have been rooted before the backups were created?

I believe you'd have needed root privileges prior to the backup, to read from the /data partition.

ok, well final thought, what about kies? I did a backup on that yesterday. Does kies restore user settings?

For apps? No. Kies wouldn't back up app data/settings anyways. Even if you DID have root.

Ah well, such is life. Still, I noticed my memo app was empty, something else My Backup didn't do. Fortunately kies just restored all my memos. Not that I'd generally trust kies for backing up other things, it's so unreliable.

Indeed. I tried using Kies for various things (including updates) for about 2 weeks, but generally found it useless.

Messenger crashes and stops working after SMS restore

Hi,
I have just completely formatted my phone, installed latest cm9 and now using sms backup+ to restore around 10k sms but once I do, Messenger crashes everytime I open it. I tried only restoring a maximum of 500 sms and messenger will not complain if I do that. Does anyone have had any similar experiences and what was your fix?

AFAIK thats because of the limitations in the stock messenger of CM9 ma8
either try upgrading ur phone to latest CM10 and then try restoring back ur SMS bkp or u can try some third party SMS app from stores and see
are you moving from a stock rom/non-cm? because i think cm and stock use different sms database formats AFAIK

I was coming from an older version of cm9. All my SMS messages are backuped to my gmail. I guess I will try cm10 although it is still broken (sigh).

If I install samsung stock rom, then use titanium backup after restoring all my SMS messages from cloud, install cm9 and then restore it, would this fix the issue?

CM10 doesn't work either. Any other ideas? I thought this SMS Backup+ was universal for all android devices.

nvm it works now but I have no idea why. It worked a while after I was playing around with other things. Works now it seems. But would prefer it to be on cm9 lol

[Q] Restoring SMS/MMS with Titanium Backup

Has anyone had any success in restoring sms/mms with TiBu? I used to be able to do it all the time on my Galaxy Nexus, but now with the GS4, it fails every time. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks.

I'm not sure if it is related or not but SMS backup & restore does not work on the S4 either. I have a beta app from the dev but haven't tried it yet. In the mean time I have been using SMS backup+

Hmm, thats weird.. I was able to use SMS backup & restore a few days ago. It was actually my last resort since I couldnt get TiBu to work. The only thing I dont like about that is it doesnt support MMS yet. Are you able to restore MMS as well with SMS backup+?

Ran into the same problem with TiBu, went to the device I was moving my old texts from and the only way it would do it was if I removed the embedded pictures and it restored
I started a fresh titanium backup folder with this phone. I have 3 sms backups. The first 2 appear OK and have file sizes of 1-2 megs but the 3rd just has a ? In the description and only a few kb. However I cannot restore any of them and trying to make new backups fail. The first ones were most likely from a rooted stock. I've been on hyper since and the backup never worked on it as far as I can tell. I've wanted to give touch wiz a shot so I have yet to try any AOSP flavors yet so I cannot comment on those.

It kept failing for me too. I found an app called JS backup (it was free) in the play store that worked for me. I just made a backup on my S3 and used wifi direct to send it to my S4 and made sure to put the backup file in the folder for JS backup and it worked perfectly. The only downside is that the texts I already had on my S4 got wiped out when i restored the backup.

I had no problem restoring SMS/MMS with Titanium Backup on my S4. I had a backup from my galaxy nexus that was running CM10.1 and had no issue restoring with CM10.1 on my S4. Are you guys trying to restore from a custom ROM on your old phone to a TW ROM on the S4?
I am also having problem restoring SMS backups from TB. I am using Mybackup Pro to backup and restore my SMS/MMS.
I believe the issue is with touchwiz. TiBU can restore SMS but has issues with MMS. Delete any MMS from your old phone before you do a backup and it should restore the SMS fine. Or use a non TW ROM.
