Just got the note3 and I'm lost on rooting - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Just got the note 3. I've Had the epic 4g touch, galaxy s2, galaxy s3 and galaxy s4. As soon as I get the phone, I look for the sticky on how to root. After I find the sticky, I follow the instructions in the video to a T. The CF auto root didn't work this time. My phone will not boot at all.
RECOVERY BOOTING.....
RECOVERY IS NOT SEANDROID ENFORCING
Set Warranty Bit : recovery
I'm stuck on this screen. Yikes. I've tried the CF auto root method several more times and the phone still won't boot.
Please don't bash me for knowing something that I should have known. I don't know what to do here. There is something entirely different with this new phone. Is this a sprint thing? Are they trying to keep people from using the hotspot for free?

All you had to do is read ..... If your on 4.4.2 you need to use the latest for kit kat. ... If your phone is on 4.3 then you need the older cf auto root for jelly bean. ... They don't work the other way ....

Use the one for 9005 if your on kit kat

So your saying that I need the one for SM-N9005 International Qualcomm? I want to be sure before I download. I carefully chose the one for sprint. Where is the older version for sprint?

The older version is in our cf auto root in original development .... but it won't work on kit kat .... It's for 4.3 and if your phone is new it's probably 4.4.2 kit kat. ... so yes you need the one for 9005 international qualcomm that's what we have been using since the first kit kat leaks

I got it working again along with root. I was extremely cautious about using the cf auto root file that's for a different model number. Seeing that the instructions strictly state that the correct file should be downloaded. I found 3 posts from people who have downloaded the 9005 file with success that gave me confidence to continue.

I assume this works for the NC5 Baseband?

[Q] Root for 4.4.2 KitKat Update available yet?

Good afternoon,
I'm wondering if there is a Root update available for KitKat yet? I just purchased a Note 3 and updated it to 4.4.2 (without thinking about it) and noticed that because it's only been out for less than a month it may not have available root files yet? Is that true? I've seen that there are several threads marked if you had a rooted 4.3 and want to flash a rooted 4.4.2 onto your device. But, none for a device with factory 4.4.2 already on it? Maybe I'm not looking in the right place? Any help to find and support is appreciated.

I was just about to ask the same thing...
There is no way yet. Kingo says they are working on it but I got no response when I asked them for a status update.
I'm all confused too, I'm trying to root because I want the tether option, my phones still on 4.3 though I was about to update before I read this... so then if we want Kit Kat what do we do after we root on 4.3?
There's root methods out there for Kitkat I personally used chain fire's method which will trip Knox. If you are trying to preserve your Samsung warranty and not trip Knox then no.
Sent from my SM-N900P using Tapatalk
Rooted mine, stock kit kat, took update night I bought phone, used chainfires auto root, I could care less about tripping Knox though.

Hello Dear,
i have also note 3 sprint and i did rooted...
how to ?
first you have to download cf auto root file of N9005 not N900P
set your phone on download mode and root with odin.. 110% tested and working fine

If you are currently on 4.3 you can get to Kit Kat rooted by following the direction posted here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2658315. Make sure to thank the OP (optimummind) in that thread.
Also, if you are rooting only to get WiFi tether, there are a few people who claim WiFi Tether Router by Fabio Grasso ($1.95) is the best option available for KitKat. Read more here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=50826678&highlight=tether#post50826678. The previous free mod no longer works on Kit Kat. Well that is my understanding anyway. I was rooted on 4.3 with WiFi Tether and am now rooted on 4.4 with no WiFi Tether. I hope this helps.

I can vouch for this. This definitely has enabled me to use WiFi tether without issue so far. I also have to say there is a good amount of WiFi AP customization for the app when configuring sprint note 3 to act as a AP. It is fast and is working for 4.4.2.

Then flash the one-click or tar file for NAB, install recovery, root your device, flash the stockish DeOdex rom, them download the WiFi Tether hack mod (it's DeOdex) from Josh's K3 site, and you'll be set.
If you need guidance, just ask.

Stuck on reboot note 3 sprint flashing

I am trying to root with odin and it is stuck on the boot loop with the 3 color screen. I used the qbking tutorial and it did not work. I can boot to my normal screen if i choose cancel and restart.
I want to get a rom that uses less battery and has more blacks so that its not draining battery so much as well as other reasons. I figure step one is root. I've tried various fixes, but it has not worked. Can someone please tell me how to do this? Can someone PLZ help me.

You have to make sure your using cf auto root and recovery for jelly bean 4.3 and not for kit kat 4.4.2 they are not interchangeable ... Also if want to use the new ROMs you have to hands kit kat bootloader and when you go to kit kat there is no going back. .. No way to downgrade from 4.4.2 to 4.3 ... The AOSP ROMs should work on either bootloader

Can you please give me more specific directions? I really don't know what I'm doing. I just want a very good batterylife rom that is stable and has some good features.
I liked jellybombrom I got it working on my old old phone , but I don't know how I did this. It was a fantastic rom. The thing I did not like about jellybomb rom was the fact that the icons were the same color so tougher to differentiate. i think the background was black to save on battery life. Anyways everything was quick and clean.
If you can treat me like a child and get me through this I will really really appreciate it.
Still stuck on the 3 color recovery screen? If so, pull the battery, wait 10 or so seconds, put it back in and hold Home + Vol down + power. When the green guy ask if you want to go into download or reboot phone, press vol down to reboot. The phone should make it past the sprint logo screen at this point.
Go with Philz Touch Recovery. Easy to use, haven't had any issues once it's flashed. Just make sure NOT to d/l the newest version. It doesn't play right with MJ4 (that's what you got according to your info above). I used the version ending with .8 I believe. And if memory serves correct, it can be found in the Sprint Galaxy Note 3 Android Development section.

[Q] Lost root, maxed out binary counter help?

I rooted my stock s4 using saferoot then flashed a kitkat 4.4.2 rom. When the new rom booted up i had lost root. I have since maxed out my binary counter trying to get back to 4.3 mk2 i think? which is what my phone came with. Now im stuck with this rom i dont want, i cant seem to root it using saferoot or motochopper. All this and im getting the yellow triangle which i cant use triangle away on because i dont have root. I used odin to flash the roms, ive tried different ones that were 4.3 but odin keeps failing i think because of my binary counter. Is there a way to reset the counter without root??

There aren't any 4.4 roms that you can flash outside of a leaked one and you can only do that doing specific steps unless you had a mdk phone or a dev phone....not sure what you did bit sounds like you have messed up. .

My phone works fine now. here is my kernel and build info now, on the 4.4.2
Kernel: 3.4.0 [email protected]#1 tue mar 11 20:52:21 KST 2014
Build # KOT 49H.I545VRUFNC2
What i did was simply rooted using saferoot, then i used odin 3.07 to flash a kitkat rom for sch I545. Rebooted and when it came on I noticed i didnt have root access so i wanted to go back to stock. I downloaded a stock 4.3 and odin would fail at the FAIL AUTH part, thus bricking my phone. I then reflashed the 4.4.2 rom and it installed. Ive tried different 4.3 roms, even with a PIT file and it still fails. Like i said it works fine, i would just like to go back to stock 4.3. I think my main problem is that I cant seem to get rooted again and i dont know why. Thanks for helping a n00b!

There's just a lot of people who come on here daily that if they read up a little more they wouldn't be in a tight spot.
If your phone is working fine on the NC2 build but you just rather MK2... then the first link I gave you is a method to downgrade I believe. Now I haven't done it myself but looking at it it's not for the faint of heart and you need to be good with Odin. Maybe start there and ask if in your situation it's even possible to do that .. If you really want to update to Kit Kat and you're not worried about root you can simply Odin the kit Kat no wipe file.
If you want root you can follow one of the guides on here to keep root while upgrading... those are somewhat involved however so if you're not comfortable with Odin etc you may just want to stay on MK2. That's what I would do... More options to you on MK2

If you want root you can follow one of the guides on here to keep root while upgrading... those are somewhat involved however so if you're not comfortable with Odin etc you may just want to stay on MK2. That's what I would do... More options to you on MK2

absolutely correct, at this point makes no sense to take 4.4 OTA, even with upgrade/downgrade available. Until issues are resolved and more ROMS are available for the non-mdk phone users thru safestrap its best stay back and wait a while.
Well Bob.. not many think of those things and rather just be on the latest and greatest. However once that wears off we see all the questions pop up on here regarding going back... Then the problems come with that process too so its just better IMO to sit tight unless your very good at troubleshooting and Odin.

couldn't agree more. Just look at the struggles so many have had with the upgrade/downgrade methods and odin issues, much can be blamed on the users trying this stuff and not understanding what they are getting into. Luckily (or unluckily) the avalanche of kitkat hasn't hit as there really aren't safestrap compatible roms out (except for maybe 2), once HD 16 comes out sit back and watch the fireworks as issues happen, even to those knowledgeable with odin.
safestrap, odin, udgrade/downgrade and no direct root method for kitkat gonna make the next few months interesting.

Hey guys,
So I have a rooted Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4 SCH-1545 running the MK2 build. I've been getting software update messages from Verizon the past few days I'm assuming for the new kit Kat. Since I'm rooted will I be OK if I update the phone with the new software or does anyone know if I will have any problems with it? Cheers.

The ota update to NC5(KitKat) will fail because you are rooted but will not cause any harm after the failer. It will leave your current set-up intact(just clearing up this point for everyone). You will need to unroot before taking the ota update.
If you are running stock MK2 except for root you can easily upgrade to NC5 and maintain root access by following these instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2749660
