[Q] Unroot Verizon S4 on MC5 - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

Hi, I'm kinda new here, well just created an account have been using the site for info for quite some time. So here is my problem. My Verizon s4 i545 has been rooted since the day I got it, literally. I had no intentions of upgrading to MC5 but while my brother was using my phone, the notification for the software update popped up and he clicked on it like a Dumb A**. So now I have a rooted S4 with MC5 firmware, and it is giving me all kinds of problems. Most noticeably, it freezes constantly, to the extent I have to take out the battery and do a hard reset. *Takes breath* So, I am in need of help, I want to unroot my phone for the time being. I can not find a download for i545VRUFNC5 stock firmware. I know I have to use oden for the flash. Can I get away with using the stock ME7 rom? or will that brick my phone? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Edit: I just discovered a download for the MC5 but the sites servers are experiencing problems and download speeds are around 2kb/s. Thats a no go. So now i'm looking for alternates. Thanks in advance!

MC5?
Kick Out the Jams!

Mc5 is the end of the build number of 4.4.2. At least it is for verizon.

Last I heard it was NC5. I would find surge1223's thread that has the no wipe odin file for NC5 and flash this.

[Q] How to check if S4 is rootable in store?

Hi all,
I have had multiple iPhones over the years (boo me) and have recently started having issues with my current one, but I'm eligible for upgrade, and I think I want to buy an S4.
I have been looking at all the custom ROMs and functionality, etc. and it seems right for me. The problem is, I don't really want to buy the phone in the first place if it's not possible to root and install a custom ROM right off the bat, as I'm a developer and would like to look into taking advantage of the root.
So, is there a quick and easy way that I can have the salesperson show me that the phone doesn't have the newest OTA update which I understand breaks the ability to unlock the bootloader? I would be purchasing the AT&T version of the phone.
Yea. You could ask them to turn the phone on then check settings/about phone and look at the build number.
If it ends with mdk your still in the Loki/rootable version. If it is me7 then your on the new build that has an extremely locked down bootloader.
If you buy it with the me7 build you will be at the will of a developer/hacker to hopefully crack the bootloader lock down.
Good luck.
Ps. There's always the developer edition which comes unlocked

Att firmwares are different so if it was an unrootable version it wouldnt show me7 anyway. I would post in the correct forum to get a better idea.

Shoot sorry I didn't even realize this forum was Verizon specific. Thanks for the heads up.
No problem. Good luck.

Last weekend I ordered a s4 from flywire .com using my Verizon upgrade.
A few days later it arrived without the sim card installed. I left the sim card out, booted to download mode, used Odin on my pc to root it. I proceeded to set it up, install apps via wifi, and used titanium backup to freeze SDM so it will not OTA in the future.
I installed cleanROM which also prevents OTAs. Then I read the developer left, so I am using CM10.
So, I was fortunate the phone came with Baseband MDK. I suppose if it came with ME7 I could return it.
If the Odin rooting process had failed, then it would obviously have ME7 installed.

So the wife and I just picked up a Note 3 each on Sprint. I rooted and installed TWRP on both without issues. I ran the zip to unlock the native hotspot on mine and booted up just fine after. Now I installed the zip on the wife's phone and now it starts to boot and gets hung up on the yellow Sprint screen. I have rebooted into TWRP and tried wiping the phone but still no luck. I was stupid and rushed though it and didn't make a nandroid backup. I feel like my only option is to return it to best buy tomorrow and just not say anything about the rooting. Anyone have an idea to avoid exchanging the phone at best buy?
Thanks ahead of time.
Use your nandroid on her phone then factory reset. Or flash one of the stock rooted roms. Guessing as usual lol.

Or you could try to flash this?

Thanks guys. Turns out the wife had updated to MJ4 so the native hotspot zip was locking the phone up after the install. Flashed back to stock and re-rooted and installed TWRP.

Best news of the night! Great to see this.
FWIW, I didn't leave Sprint until my baseband showed MJ4 (ie, took the update at the store, and didn't leave until it showed on reboot).

Coming from HTC, I would never update the firmware as fear HTC would make it so you couldn't get S-OFF. Don't have to worry about the S-ON or S-OFF crap on Samsung luckily.
So what is the best way to update to MJ4? I rooted and flashed Jellybomb but still shows my software is MI5. I was thinking that it would have been updated with the ROM but I should have known better. With HTC, there was a zip to flash to update the firmware separately. I'm guessing there is something similar with Samsung phones. Thanks ahead of time.

After you update use Kingo app to root it.
Why do I have to re-root? I'm already rooted. From what I've found, all I have to do is install the MJ4 firmware tar file via Odin. I shouldn't have to re-root and start over again. I rooted via Odin so I don't care about tripping Knox. Can someone just confirm I just need to run the MJ4 tar file via Odin and won't have to re-root or install my rom over again? Thanks

Looks like you made the same jump I did from htc 4g lte to N3. It's quite a bit better isn't it?
I am not happy with the direction htc is going as a company so I jumped ship on them. I had no idea the samsung phones had gotten this good since I set the Epic 4G on fire and swore I'd never buy another Samsung phone again. This phone is so much better than the 4G LTE I'm almost ashamed at how many people I talked into buying one. Oh well...
Funny about the fear of updating. When the girl at BB was setting my N3 up it started downloading an update and I snatched it out of her hands and restarted it to stop the update. I told her I was going to root it and an update might make that impossible. lol I'm coming around, slowly. If knox wasn't in the loop it would be a lot easier. I hope its just a matter of time before work arounds are found for that.

Just FYI, I updated my Note3 to MJ4 and rooted it with Kingo App. Is there a newer update? After that, with Flashify I flashed TWRP and installed Bonsai MJ4 0.0.2 (no Knox)
(I have Baseband N900PVPUBMJ4 with Bonsai_v0.0.2)
As far as I know MJ4 is the latest firmware in the wild for the N3...

Yep, I had the Epic 4G and after watching my sister with all the issues she had her Epic Touch, I swore I would never own anther Samsung again. But with the lack of support from HTC on existing phones and seeing friends with the S3, S4 and Note2 without issues, I figured I'd give them another shot. I mean I likeed my EVO LTE but this phone is so much faster and I love the larger screen. Plus, so much easier to root this phone compared to the EVO LTE.

I had MI5 but just ran the MJ4 firmware in Odin yesterday and took less than 30 seconds. There is no newer firmware than MJ4 currently. I used Odin to root my phone as I'm not concerned with tripping Knox.

Well thats another story... I hate those nagging msgs at the top when you turn on the phone...

can't place calls after downgrading to MK2

I downgraded to Build number MK2 using my verizon sch-i545 per gogolie's one file flash method using method 1. I downloaded "The Complete Package - Absolutely everything you'll need in one .rar file." and flashed the file MK2_system_4downgrade_rooting_all_in_one in my AP slot in Odin 3.10. all went well with no errors until I tried to place a call and it won't go through and the phone kind of geeks out and even restarted on me. I have not went any further in rooting or flashing the NC2 hlos and modem and wifi bypass. if some1 could explain to me what is going on with that I would be absolutely delighted. why can't I place calls? I've gotten as far as installing hyperdrive before and messing with that xposed framework but I have never been able to make calls. I have gotten as far before to fake security credentials in google playstore with some app I can't recall the name of it though. please help me, as you can see this is my first post and I'd realy appreciate it. I've JTAGGED xboxs, unlocked PS3's AND JAIL BROKE iPods before. the phone game is new to me but I love tinkering with technology and pushing the bounds of what manufacturer enables the consumer to do with the products they've purchased with their own hard earned money. all that being said I'm here for a little help and saying hi to the community I've already grown to love. I'm from Ohio so shout out to all of you Ohioans too! Cheers

[Q] Wifi issue since upgrading to 4.4.2

I could not find an answer on how to fix this issue with the SCH-I545. After upgrading to KK I have not been able to connect to the WIFI at work. I am hoping that someone can help me. I have tried a lot of the simple things like renaming my device. My phone is not rooted, but if it is able to be rooted I am willing to do it.
Check our towelroot.com. It gives us root!!! One click!! It's pretty sweet! Just came out but I too am having problems with tether.

i had the same problem, i brought my phone to verizon and all the lady did was take the battery out and put it back in.

Just couldn't leave well enough alone!

So I decided to pick up an s4 because it was stupid cheap and in awesome condition. Or so I thought...
Went to toss it on the charger and was getting unable to charge as the battery temp was to low!!! So I did some homework and decided that lollipop 5.0.1 on this device may be the issue.
Here's where I have the issue every time I try to revert the firmware I get a stop at aboot and it fails...now I'm sitting here with a device that tells me to use the Verizon software to fix the issue. The software is nowhere to be found! Also, Kies is useless both friggin versions! Have tried a couple different firmwares and I'm beating my head against the wall.
Any help much appreciated.
Yeah there is no going back from lollipop. Use odin to flash lollipop.
Can you point me in the right direction for the proper firmware? Also does it matter if I use 3.07 or 3.09?
