So I decided to pick up an s4 because it was stupid cheap and in awesome condition. Or so I thought...
Went to toss it on the charger and was getting unable to charge as the battery temp was to low!!! So I did some homework and decided that lollipop 5.0.1 on this device may be the issue.
Here's where I have the issue every time I try to revert the firmware I get a stop at aboot and it fails...now I'm sitting here with a device that tells me to use the Verizon software to fix the issue. The software is nowhere to be found! Also, Kies is useless both friggin versions! Have tried a couple different firmwares and I'm beating my head against the wall.
Any help much appreciated.
Yeah there is no going back from lollipop. Use odin to flash lollipop.
Can you point me in the right direction for the proper firmware? Also does it matter if I use 3.07 or 3.09?

Hey folks, sorry to bother you all but all input would be greatly appreciated. I'm rather unfamiliar with android flashing and kernels, and have spent the last 8 hours trying to figure this out to no avail.
Following this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1238070) (section 5) guide on how to get back to stock gingerbread on my phone (after a few partially failed attempts flashing other roms), I was using Odin, had the .pit 2.2 as well as CI500_VZW_EH03_GB_CM.tar.md5 loaded into the program and left it running. About 20 mins in, the phone stopped progressing and I started to get concerned. After two hours, I powered down the phone and proceeded to reattempt the flash. This is when things got weird. My phone was unable to enter the Download Mode and instead showed Android system recovery when plugged in, or a black screen with a phone and a computer, with arrows between when not plugged in. The weirdest part is that the phone no longer recognized vol+ or the power button when in Android Recovery, and could only vol- to go down the menu, then was stuck at the bottom of the list.
I've searched everywhere on this site, and google to try and come up with a solution.
When pluggin into the computer, I hear a connection sound, but the device is not recognized by Odin. Pressing the running a blind vol+ and vol-, then a vol- to hope Odin recognizes the device, as pointed out in this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1764022) thread, resulted in nothing. Holding vol- while pluggin in the usb cable, doesn't show the download mode. All of the steps in this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1026746) thread proved futile, as most of them required download mode anyways.
I'm going to keep searching and keep you posted as things come. Your help as always will be greatly appreciated!
Edit: Things just got weirder... After a few more attempts at making this work, I'm now getting an "Unable to charge non-supported battery. See user manual." With this error, I'm not able to get into Android Recovery anymore. More searching...
Edit 2: AFAIK I'm gonna need a jig. Anyone confirm?
Edit 3: Got a jig, Download Mode working, all is well. Please remove this thread, or leave it for other noob flashers to see.
Hey Folks, its been a while since I last posted in this forum, but I ran into a pretty serious issue earlier this evening. I was attempting to flash CM9 to my T959D and was running into tonnes of trouble. Throughout my attempts I was restoring back to stock rom, kernel and bootloader. During one of these restores, Odin froze in Win 7. Since then I've been unable to detect any form of life from the phone. It simply sits in a black screen. Holding the vol down while booting, blind vol up and down cable inserting, using my Jig and inserting the cable/battery in various orders results in nothing. The most I hear is a device failure to connect sound in Windows with no sign of life in Odin.
What can I do?
Someone posted stating leaving the battery out for multiple days would reset something on the motherboard, allowing me to get into download mode. Though I was hoping to have this resolved tonight. I realize that there aren't many people left with these phones, but I hope someone has a solution to this.
I'm going to be installing ubuntu tonight on an older desktop in a effort to resolve this. Though my experience with it is very limited, and success is unknown.
NOT GOOD... You should wait and see if others have a better solution, but Unbrickable Mod may be your only option.

Thats not good to hear. Well, I was snooping around looking for someone who could solder this for me, to no avail. My soldering skills are non existent. The most I fixed was a door bell, and I did a terrible job. I won't be able to get my hands on a soldering iron until tomorrow, is it worth trying?
I have located someone who can do a jtag on this model but have a few questions in regards to this:
Since my bootloader was corrupted, would the jtag service put a new bootloader on?
Would it prevent the same thing from happening again?
Are jtags designed on a per-phone basis?
Since there is a telus fascinate T959D as well as a verizon fascinate, and both phones are completely different, would I need to make sure the jtag is meant for this phone?
Is there anything I need to be made aware of before doing this that I haven't mentioned?
I've haven't had any experience with JTAG, but I've heard Unbrickable Mod is preferable. If you're looking for someone who can solder, check out your local RC/hobby store. If that fails, check out an electronics store, though it may take some searching to find one.

Hey no offence but stop telling everyone on the street they need too soljeir there phone with unbrickable mod before they can fix I'm tired of having too calm the person down after you said they have too open up the phone its utter bull****. 1 out of 10 soft bricks you may need it I've been without download mode and fixed mine just fine.

An update:
Took my phone in to get the jtag service... He said some of my partitions were corrupted, one of which was the boot layer. He put a new bootloader on, and showed it could be placed back into recovery and download mode, but when I got home the device was even more dead than when I left; no device failed to connect sound in windows, just nothing. I'm taking it back to him in a week after exams to get this resolved. Maybe the battery has reached the end of its life...? I checked it with a volt meter, and it had 3v+ so I really don't know.

As bbrad pointed out, there may be other solutions, and my answer could be totally wrong, but if even your bootloader is cooked, Unbrickable Mod may be your only hope. Since UM affects startup code literally hardwired into the chip, it should work as long as the JTAG doesn't interfere.

Another update. So apparently I flashed a bootloader from another phone, which royally screwed up the partition, kernel and mounted drives. The technician managed to get the original bootloader, kernel and rom on the phone and everything is working from stock again.
Why on earth is the 959d Telus version such a pain in the ass to customize?
Is there anyone on here that uses a 959d that can direct me to a proper method to leaving stock? Before this entire situation I had vodoo kernel on, with cwm, but every time I flashed a kernel it would hang on reboot and either sit on a black or white screen. In a lot of cases I would flash in cwm, reboot, then I would be brought back to cwm as if there was no rom on the phone at all, no matter what I formatted and wiped.
When I'm not on my phone I can link all of the guides I've tried that leave me back where I started. So I re flash back to stock using Odin.
At the end of the day, I have to ask, is it really worth it in the end? I've rooted and flashed many roms on other phones but have never run into as many problems as with this fascinate t959d

So I finally HAVE to replace my Note 2 via warranty. Power button sticks and will not boot.
At the end of the call to place the warranty order she says "any physical damage, water damage, or software alterations will result in a charge of $290". So I'm rooted and ROM'd and would normally just return to stock. BUT since the phone will not boot, I cannot do this. I realize if it won't boot for me it likely won't boot for Verizon.
My worry is that somehow they will in get it to boot. Do they still check for root? If so is this something I should be worried about? I cannot for the life of me get this thing to turn on it seems like I will not be able to return this to stock with out powering the phone on. Any insight is greatly appreciated.
I have done the warranty replacement game for a long time. Typical the people checking the phone are stupid and dump for checking for root. I havent spoken to or talked to one smart person that would check. Plus the people they hired to make sure the devices comes in probably isn't tech savvy. Just a worker trying to get paid.

I agree with the above. I guarantee you the people who do the initial evaluation have a 'target' for the number of phones processed. But just the same return your phone to as stock looking as possible. Restore the launcher, use a stock wallpaper and/or boot-ani. Uninstall all apps you got from the store. And run your battery all the way down. It will continue to discharge even though it's off. This means it will need to charge for a few minutes before it will boot again.
And I've never noticed many posts (i can't recall even one) about phones being kicked back for being rooted/flashed.
But with that said isn't there some kind of flash 'counter' on the Note 2?

When I had my DROID X I went into a Verizon store to upgrade to an s3 and the guy who just got done telling me how he "mods" his gnex looked at my X and it was running cm7 themed out the wazoo and he said how plain the stock os is on the Motorola. Haha. So I don't think that 98% of the people who are either in store or at the warranty place have a clue what rooted is let alone able to tell if it is or not.

I think I read somewhere that you can make a powered usb jig the will boot it into download mode. I might be wrong, but you can search around for it.

Yea I can't even get the phone to boot. Which I believe is due to the malfunctioning power button. But I'm still concerned verizon will find some way to get it booted. I'm going to see if I can boot via ADB this evening. Its been quite a while since messing around with ADB so I need to allow myself some time. Hopefully I can boot it and just Odin the factory image via ADB.
I should also try and clear the flash counter right? Does anyone have any tips or know-how on how to do that? I saw somewhere that there is an app. But should that be run before or after running the Odin stock image?
Thanks again guys and gals.
Hey gerg, the app is triangle away, and I would always try to return to stock if possible. I would use it before returning to stock as it needs root privileges. What a great learning experience (better to look at it that way then get angry trying to accomplish your goal). Keep us posted as we are all"rooting" for you....

Thanks man. Appreciate the positive vibes.
However it seems like I'm stuck. I can't for the life of me get this phone to boot, therefore I can restore the stock image via ADB, because ADB will not recognize the device since it is off. I've tried every trick out there, including the youtube video about pulling the charger and pulling/re-seating the battery as fast as possible. No dice.
I did however receive my warranty device today, and since I have ADB all set up and ready to go, I'll be rooting her and getting back to Trans-Neb ASAP, and of course I'll see you back in that thread.
Again, thanks for the help guys it is appreciated. I'm fairly sure I've tried harder and spent more time to get this phone to boot than Verizon will ( I hope at least). So if they can't get it to turn on, I don't see how they can tell its rooted
Mods can close this thread
Cheers!
Hi, I'm kinda new here, well just created an account have been using the site for info for quite some time. So here is my problem. My Verizon s4 i545 has been rooted since the day I got it, literally. I had no intentions of upgrading to MC5 but while my brother was using my phone, the notification for the software update popped up and he clicked on it like a Dumb A**. So now I have a rooted S4 with MC5 firmware, and it is giving me all kinds of problems. Most noticeably, it freezes constantly, to the extent I have to take out the battery and do a hard reset. *Takes breath* So, I am in need of help, I want to unroot my phone for the time being. I can not find a download for i545VRUFNC5 stock firmware. I know I have to use oden for the flash. Can I get away with using the stock ME7 rom? or will that brick my phone? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Edit: I just discovered a download for the MC5 but the sites servers are experiencing problems and download speeds are around 2kb/s. Thats a no go. So now i'm looking for alternates. Thanks in advance!
MC5?
Kick Out the Jams!
Mc5 is the end of the build number of 4.4.2. At least it is for verizon.
Last I heard it was NC5. I would find surge1223's thread that has the no wipe odin file for NC5 and flash this.

My bad, you are correct. I read it wrong lol. And thanks ill check it out.
Galaxy Mega with OTA Android 4.4.2.
I only want to root and keep this stock ROM. I don't even care if it's unlocked unless it has to be. I have read through several guides that all seem to be written over a year ago. Is there a new tutorial for me? I have installed Samsung Kries 3 and Odin. I can usually make a connection though it often gives me error messages that my device is not supported. When I disconnect and reconnect, the error goes away. I can see and use Odin and Kreis 3.
Yes, me too also looking for root this version of android 4.4.2
I've already tried many times so far with old files of root but didn't successful.
can someone help us?

Sounds like Cpt. Emo spent an hour or 12 on this project already.
As for me, I am using a Sprint variant. SPH-600. Cpt. may be right concerning this machine too. If so I will content myself with learning the KitKat OTA upgrade (a welcome surprise) it's pretty awesome in its stock version.
You have the Sprint variation, you may be ok. Dont take my word as gospel, but there are definitly signs of life. Sprint is not my carrier. This thread specifically may not have all the answers, but if you read this and post here, you may find the yellow brick road. Good luck. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2789034
Not that the Mega is a bad phone, just under nourished.

I didn't know that finding a root for the kit Kat was this bad.
I had this Galaxy Mega 6.3 for almost a year, was about to upgrade the OS to kit Kat but I decided to keep the 4.2.2 stock rom because a friend of mines told me that there's higher security activity when upgrading to Kit Kat which makes it nearly impossible to find or getnroot access. So I went on and rooted it using Odin2 and I haven't been this satisfied since. Once again I'm sorry you guys are going through a difficult time finding it. The only thing I can say is wait a little while longer for someone to finally get a root for KitKat

Well, this is a painful admission of a 'slap-head moment.'
I followed several threads and downloaded newest Odin3. booted to recovery and tried to root using Odin3. Nada. Failed. double checked everything. downloaded Mega drivers (several times) Odin3 failed. Many many hours over several days. Then came the slap-head moment. I 'knew'' that not all micro charging/data cables were made the same. I finally went to the other room where I use the charger for the Mega, retrieved the cable that came with it and replaced the one I was using to connect to my computer to use Odin3.
THIS time Odin3 worked and my phone was rooted in seconds. Seriously, under a minute. Double checked with RootChecker and SuperSUser.
So, much as I hate to admit the growing tide of 'slap-head moments' maybe someone else will be helped by this tip.
So I am new to this forum and need help. I was trying to downgrade my LG G3 on Sprint from Lollipop (5.0.1) to stock firmware, however when trying to use the LG Flash Tool, it kept coming up with Fail USB open port fail. I figured that switching the ports might help, but it kept coming up with the same error message.
I am considering installing Cyanogenmod, but that is like the last ditch effort for me. I do not want to void the warranty yet (ive only had the phone for a few months now). I should have just hit factory default, but wasn't sure how far back it would've taken my phone. The latest version has been pissing me off when it came to the sporatic battery life drains. I now have learned my lesson on that, but would appreciate any help when it comes to getting my phone hopefully back to stock settings. I am gonna take my laptop to a local coffee shop in hopes that I can get some success on it. All the work has been on my desktop. I think the software hates my mobo or something.
I wanted to add that the beginning screen that shows the DBMS, which button am I supposed to select?
