[Q] Wifi not working on 4.4.2 - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

Today I decided to upgrade to KitKat and I didn't want to lose my 4.3 bootloader so instead of using OTA I used a tutorial on here and flashed MK2 then some file to update to 4.4.2 without the bootloader and then flashed NC5 kernel and well everythings working fine except I can't enable wifi. Everytime I tick it it just disables itself immediately, is there any fix for this?
Also I tried factory resetting, deleting wpa_supplicant.conf, re-flashing Kernel, renaming device, etc and nothing works as of yet.
Apologies if this makes little to no sense as I've spent nearly all day working on this and I'm practically brain dead as I'm writing this.

[Q] Update to 4.4.2 - A Little Rusty

When I last rooted and ROM'd my GN2 it was shortly after the first OTA. I haven't touched it since then since it's been a great phone for me. I have been unhappy now for about a month with the performance and other issues. I have an issue that's requiring me to factory reset and since I will be basically losing everything anyway I want to update to the newest ROM.
Here's where I am now:
Android Version 4.1.1
Baseband Version I605VRALL4
Kernel Version 3.0.31-414933 [email protected] #1
Build Number JRO03C.I605VRALJB
Hardware Version I605.06
This is where I want to be: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2765021
I have the files downloaded and on my SDcard. I have the 4.3 MJ9 firmware ready to be flashed in Odin. But the post says I would only need that if I am coming from 4.1.2 (which I am not) so would that even be needed?
I can't seem to recall how can I tell if my bootloader is unlocked? I used the CASUAL root method originally. I have never had an issue with Root function so I know I am rooted still.
I have the PhilZ/CWM installed as my recovery.
I have a current backup to my sdcard.
Should I just flash as the thread says?
Thanks in advance and I've been at this for 5 hours now and in searching the forums for information about updating from 4.1.1 and there has been none. I've seen the "no posts found" page so many times I could throw my computer! haha!
Hey there,
Yeah you should have an unlocked bootloader since I used casual as well. Flash with Odin the firmware, they mention 4.1.2 because they assume everyone is already on that. You basically need the 4.3 firmware for all the new roms to ensure WiFi works specifically I believe while radios will still work.
So once you Odin you can flash the tw 4.4.2 ROM and expect it all to work. If you have been wanting to try stock aosp 4.4.4 now is a good time, they have gotten very stable since our phone has official cyanogen support.
Good luck
Yeah I followed a post from the thread that was a long process. I flashed 4.1.2 stock. Re-casual rooted. Then flashed 4.3 and the firmware. Then did the 4.4.2 radio and such. It was like a 4 hour process.

Well I had good luck yesterday but now seem to be having issues. And I can't screen shot so I don't know what to do.

Can you describe your issues the best you can?
Sent from my SCH-I605
When I plug in a headset or take out the S pen I get a consistent message about Pagebuddy closing. It won't stop popping up until I put the pen back or unplug the headset. I disabled pagebuddy in the settings hoping that would stop it. I cleared the cache and data from the app and also went into recovery and wiped cache. It was working fine for the first day. Then just started erroring.
Sounds like you have an app installed that's not playing nice. I would use Titanium Backup and freeze all user apps, then unfreeze one at a time to find the culprit
Sent from my SCH-I605
Today it stopped doing it. No messages for a headset plugged in or S-pen removed. I don't know what happened.

[Q] (Verizon S4 NC5) No Wifi with Echoe v29 ROM using SS

I will start by saying that I am a long time lurker on these forums and they have helped me through pretty much all of my phone mishaps and accomplishments so thank you guys. I am sorry if this has been answered before but I can't find any solution that works so I'll throw everything out there and hope some generous stranger with some free time can help me out or show me what I am doing wrong.
What I have:
Verizon Galaxy S4
- Model Number: SCH-I545
- Android Version: 4.4.2
- Baseband Version: I545VRUFNC5
What I have done to the device:
- Rooted via Towelroot
- Safestrap 3.72 installed
- Echoe v29 flashed using Safestrap
The problem:
When clicking on the wifi button it turns green for a second then gets grayed out.
What I have tried to fix this problem
I flashed the modem.bin file using Odin with no luck, then flashed the modem.bin and NON-HLOS.bin files (found on this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2487298 and I dowladed I545VRUFNC5_modem_apnhlos.zip from this) then flashed via Odin, still no wifi. I then completely wiped the phone and re-flashed the stock firmware, re-rooted, and re-installed safestrap. I then did a factory reset and installed the Echoe ROM, then the modem and NON-HLOS files all using Safestrap. Same outcome. I then repeated this but flashed the modem and NON-HLOS before I flased the ROM. Nothing.
Any suggestions? Am I missing something?

Like the layout lol everyone should post their questions like this... anyway with Safestrap, you need to flash kernel modules right after you flash a rom, before the initial boot. If you don't do this, then WiFi doesn't work. You need the modules that match your bootloader, here's the link for the ones for NC5: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23486521113837640 (thanks to Surge)
Sometimes, for some people on certain roms, those modules still don't do the trick. In those cases, this zip seems to work for them:https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23487008491963696 , if you're still not getting WiFi, try this: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23487008491963692 (thanks to Gigilie)
Haha, it just makes sense to post something that is easier to read than just text. Anyways, that was it! Thank you, you are a life saver. I'll make sure to keep a copy on my SD card from now on just in case.
Fix for NK1 Model?
I have the same problem as well. WiFi won't turn on.
What I have:[/COLOR]
Verizon Galaxy S4
- Model Number: SCH-I545
- Android Version: 4.4.2
Baseband Version::I545VRUFNK1
My only issue with the fix is my baseband version has the NK1, and not NC5 version. Is their a fix for this model?
PLEASE RESPOND ASAP!!!
I have the same question since I am on NK1 now.
I also could not get WiFi working so I went back to the original Verizon ROM.
A link to the correct file would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you,
Rodger
I think I figured it out this morning.
Flash the following zip files after flashing the custom SafeStrap ROM:
NK1 modules:

This worked for me.
Rodger
Thanks Rodger the files worked for me!!!

[Q] sch-i605: Not receiving SMS/MMS after any rom upgrade

Longtime XDA'er here with a problem.
I was rooted on stock 4.1.2 for over a year but wanted to update to take advantage of newer features such as chromecast mirror on kitkat. I had a perfectly working phone until I tried flashing updates. I followed instructions and only flashed the MJ9 baseband on roms that tell me too, and even flashed ND7 baseband for other ports. I was able to install multiple variants of 4.4.2 with both twrp and philz recoveries with the same result. I can't get sms/mms to come in. What's weird is upon bootup I will get the same test message only once, then nothing. I even tried flashing agni kernel with no luck. The phone works great with the exception of text messaging. Calls work, GPS locks, and no issues with wifi. APN settings look fine (compared to my wife's note 2 which is identical model still on 4.1.2). I popped my sim into an LG lucid I had as a backup and the text's sitting in limbo start streaming in, so I know my sim isn't bad. I even made sure to disable hangouts with no luck. Even tried Go Sms Pro with same result. I have since decided to go to 4.3 and am having the same issue on those roms on the MJ9 baseband and MJ9 stock kernel.
I'm pulling my hair out because I can't figure this out and I'm a pretty smart fella, this just has me stumped.
Ideas anyone? I have been researching like mad and nothing I try seems to resolve.
Thanks in advance!

flashing stock 4.1.2 via Odin does fix it, but when I try to upgrade to any rom from there I have same problem. Pretty much all of the roms 4.3+ specify flashing with MJ9 firmware, which I have done. I have tried 4 roms today and same problem every time.
So annoying, it's like I can't get higher than 4.1.2

I'm really surprised I'm the only one having this issue. After much research and countless attempts, it seems the most I can do is run stock 4.1.2 rooted, and can apply the MJ9 firmware... but if I try to update to any rom 4.3 or above, my text messaging stops working, otherwise the ROM's work great and phone calls, 4G Data, Wifi, GPS, etc all work perfect... only the sms/mms doesn't.
If I run the stock, rooted 4.1.2, with MJ9 radio everything runs great, including sms/mms, so my feeling is that I need a rom that doesn't flash kernel, or baseband, but jsut system, data, etc... then I might have a shot but it's a long shot at this point. I have even tried beans build 26 which is 4.3 and have EXACTLY the same problem.
The only other thing I've noticed is I have hardware version I605.07 whereas most people it seems have I605.06 from what I've noticed while browsing similar threads.
got it working with no help from anyone... a lot of steps but worth it. Definitely not the normal path everyone has been posting.

Absolutely... I will type up instructions in the morning. As for driving you nuts I know exactly what you mean... I was pulling my hair out and almost gave up hope but I tried something and it worked. It involves using beans 26 rom and a combination of Twrp and Philz recoveries and backup/restores... if you are having this problem, the main problem is the flashing of the MJ9 firmware.
I'll clue you in tomorrow

as promised, here's the steps it took for me to get working... It may seem a little bit of a long process but almost 4 days now and no more issues, so I trust this process. It must be something different in my hardware versus other, and I'm assuming yours is like mine.
Let me know if you have any questions
Start with 4.1.2 stock rooted
1. Install latest TWRP Recovery v2.7
2. Backup EFS and Modem as separate backups to your external SD card
3. In Recovery, Wipe.. Advanced Wipe and wipe everything (including Internal Storage) except external SD and USB-TG partitions
The next set of steps is to ensure you have a clean base to work with...
4. Reboot to download mode and using Odin 3.07 flash stock 4.1.2 firmware
in Pit select Sch-i605-16gb.pit
in PDA, select the stock 4.1.2 MC3 firmware
make sure only the following checkboxes are selected: "Auto Reboot", "Re-Partition" and "F. Reset Time"
Hit Start, wait till process completes and boots into o/s. Then skip all wizard options to get to home screen.
5. Root phone using casual
I had no issues using version "NoYouVerizon-GalaxyNote2-CASUAL R515.jar"
6. After root is successful, boot to Recovery and install latest TWRP recovery again since you will have twrp v2.5 due to the root process
7. Repeat step #3 (3 times to make sure everything is wiped clean)
8. IMPORTANT as this is what seemingly fixed the sms issue for me: using twrp recovery, restore the EFS backup you took in step #2 (do not restore the modem)
9. Install Beans 26 rom (Alliance 4.3) which will now give you a proper MJ9 base and kernel to work with. Again, skip all wizard prompts after it loads just so you can get to home screen.
10. Boot into recovery and now backup the new 4.3 EFS and modem partitions to your external SD.
You are not actually going to need the modem backup for the next steps, but if you have a problem installing a rom,
you now have working MJ9 EFS and Modem partitions should you have a problem with any roms from this point forward
11. Repeat step 7 & 8 (restore only the EFS 4.3 partition)
12. Important.. Now install latest Philz recovery
13. Install 4.4.2 rom using Philz recovery
At step 13 is where I installed the Ditto Note 3 rom v5.2, and chose "do not wipe" during the aroma install process.
14. once installed allow it to reboot, if it hangs on samsung boot animation for more than 5 minutes do the following:
a) pull battery and boot into philz recovery, then wipe only the following: Data, Cache, and dalvik cache
b)Install Agni Kernel (PSN_AGNi_pureSTOCK-v4.2.5_I605_4.4.2_AROMA-signed.zip)
c)reboot and you should get the android wizard for the rom in 2 or 3 minutes
If you have a problem like I did with regards to the Camera not working in the new rom, dirty flash the rom again (do not do any wiping)
Then re-install Agni Kernel since the rom installs it's own, otherwise it will break wifi, at least it did on mine.
There are a few more fixes to get tethering, etc working but I can provide those steps if needed. It basically involves installing xposed framework and the moto-x module.

[Q] Data connectivity issues after attempting to flash custom ROM

I've been rooting my phones since getting my first HTC Incredible, so while I am certainly not an expert, I have a bit of experience researching rooting methods and roms and flashing and recoveries before getting my hands dirty. Now I'm in over my head.
I've had my G3 rooted since December, but kept it on the stock Kitkat rom until yesterday. I flashed TWRP and then HolyAngel's Skydragon G3, going with the Lollipop version along with the Skydragon kernel.
Booted up just fine, but my data kept dropping out. The lock screen message would constantly switch from "Verizon Wireless" to "Service disabled" every few seconds. Connecting to WiFi works just fine.
I've tried reflashing Skydragon, both Lollipop and Kit Kat versions, Skydragon kernel and stock kernel. I've tried flashing the nandroid backup I made before flashing Skydragon the first time. Each time the data connectivity issue has persisted. Calls and texts are out of the question and as a nice added piece of frustration, I can't log into my Google account now because I have 2-step verification turned on and I can't receive texts.
What did I do and how do I fix it? Help please!

Try flashing the 23b modem again: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95916177934538781
I think you can only use the 23B modem for SD or Jasmine LP - anything else causes what you have going on. Also check your network setting and set it to LTE if it is set to global. Good luck.
Thank you! So to clarify, if I reflash the 23B modem zip file I'll need to be on either the Skydragon or Jasmine roms for my data to be restored?
I ask because I'm back on my (rooted, stock) nandroid backup, so if that's the case I need to reflash Skydragon first correct? Would It work with the kitkat version of SD?
Thanks again!

Yup, the 23B modem is for stock based Jasmine/SD lollipop ROMs, and the 10b/11c/12b modems are for KK (and AOSP) ROMs. So to clarify: if you're on SD KK right now then 12b is the most current modem you should use(ends in...7834.1) & if you're on, or plan on going to be on Jasmine/SD lollipop builds you need the 23B modem and can't use any older ones.
So just remember to flash the 23B modem when you use Lollipop stock based ROMs for now, and flash the 12b(or later) for KK based (or AOSP) ROMs. I've forgotten a few times myself going from AOSP where I use the 12b modem and have seen the effects of having the wrong modem installed on SD LP. It constantly drops and switches around between 4g and 1x or just no service.
*All the modems are available in post #4 of the Jasmine thread :good:
Okay, that makes sense. Thank you so much for the explanation. I will try this tonight!

Got myself into a pickle and need some help

Ok, I have a i605 Verizon. I've had his phone for a while. Rooted it 5 min in the door 3 years ago. Flashforward to today. Just noticed that baseband, build and everything is wonky. Anyways, decided to start over and re-root today and having some issues. Also keep in mind i've moved to StraightTalk with the AT&T sim. It's been working for the last year on ST by using N7105 and i317 ROMS. Haven't really done anything to it. But noticing on the About Screen, i'm showing a lot of different things (Attached)..
Android Version 4.1.1
Baseband version: I605VRAMC3
Build number: JRO03C.I605VRALJB
This is of course a fresh reload into root66 vzw stock rom. I do have the Stock Kies MC3 ROM but Odin errors everytime I try to use it.
What is going on, how do I get things to line up so i don't brick my device.
I've tried changing the bootloader but it keeps erroring everytime
Thanks!
Ok, flashed the MC3 stock rom thru odin (forgot about the pit file) it's installed fine.. going to try from here
