Hi to everyone,
it happened something strange to me since I first switched on my SmartFlip:
while being in my country and using a local operator SIM, as soon as I switched on my phone, the ROAMING icon appeared and I was not able to let it go (it is present even while using GPRS connection as a G and a filled triangle).
Yesterday I had to move to another city (our Capital City, ROME) and when I switched it on again after the flight, the roaming icon was gone, even during GPRS connection.
I thought I somehow solved my problem, but after switching it on again after the flight back, it appeared again and is still present.
I've contacted my operator, but they say it has to be something within the phone (and I believe them as I've used that SIM with many other HTC phones with no problem at all).
A friend of mine which has the SmartFlip too but a different operator (TIM), has no problem at all.
Does anyone reports the same problem, or ever faced such a behaviour ?
Thank you for your help.
Ciao
ROAMING: SOLUTION FOUND (but not solved !!!)
Hi to everyone,
I don't know yet WHY this happens to me (and not to other people, for instance...), but...
Well, I reported my phone always getting to "ROAMING" while it was not.
I've found that IF I place in the phone one of my two SIMs (I have two with the same phone number, provided by my phone operator VODAFONE ITALY, which gives this as a service) and the SIM is PIN LOCKED, then, after unlocking it, the phone reports being in ROAMING.
If I just remove the PIN LOCK from the SIM, then the ROAMING ICON is not appearing anymore.
I have to switch the phone off and on again to see the results, but till now (more than 10 tries), I haven't failed one.
I've asked some friends of mine with other operator's SIMs to try the same, but they do not report the same behaviour.
Is there anyone else reporting this ? And with which operator ?
Thank you for your help.
Best regards.
I found this nice little registry tweak to remove the roaming icon (triangle) on HowardForums.
HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL\DisableRoamingIndicator
Set 1 to disable the triangle
Set 0 to enable the triangle
I now have a square E or G icon instead
same problem
hi mix,
i have the same problem. this behaviour happens only with sims of vodafone (128), with old ones (64) no.
this happen also with qtek 8310 with the same sim vodafone 128
Hi Bostik,
I've finally found (some time ago anyway...) that this is due to the fact there is the PIN code activated on phone startup...
If you remove PIN code lock on phone startup, then the ROMAING triangle disappears...
I believe this is a O.S. fault, not within the phone itself...
Should be checked with other machines with WM5 PHONE on (but may differ due to OS different builds...).
I decided to risk removing my PIN code... (I can recognise my phone being lost within minutes usually and I can then block SIM and phone very quickly).
It's annoying, but this is our life... ;-)
Happy new year.
This occurs when swithing from 900 to 1800 networks of the same operateor, its a bug

I tried applying this trick to my Kaiser. My provider (Telfort) got bought by another (KPN) so now all Telfort users "roam" on the KPN network. Anybody know any other tricks I could try to get rid of the roaming triangle icon? Thanks so much!!
Hello,
I started this post in the Hermes forum, but decided to move the discussion to the upgrade board.
My new unlocked HTC Hermes arrived in the mail today. After inserting my SIM Card, I noticed that my GSM didn't work.
Whey I try to make a phone call (with my SIM card inserted in the phone) the phone icon is greyed out with an "X" beside it.
To fix this problem, I tap the attena icon in the top right corner of the desktop and choose settings, then "enable phone" This connects me to the Rogers network. I see "ROGERS". So far so good.
As soon as I hit the Phone icon to make a call, the attena in the top corner shows an "X" beside it and the phone icon is grayed out again. It's as if I have been immediately dropped from the ROGERS GSM network the second I choose the make a call?
I've been browsing the forum all afternoon and believe I have a Type 1a:devices which can boot windows mobile but can't use the phone functions.
The recommendations from Mike in the Hermes forum was to upgrade to the latest Shipped ROM. I found the Shipped ROM on the following thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=293019
I downloaded the following Shipped ROM
http://rs48l3.rapidshare.com/files/...WE_2_1_.06.502.3_6275_1.33.31.00_108_Ship.exe
RUU_Hermes_CINGULAR_WWE_2_1_.06.502.3_6275_1.33.31.00_108_Ship
Could someone tell me if this is the right ROM? Will I have to unlock the phone after applying the ROM?
Thanks
- Steve
Thanks!

If you got a NO-GSM out of the BOX then its a DOA(Dead on Arrival) take it back!!!
I suggest you flash the latest 1.38 Radio ROM to the device and see if it recovers... first, FLASH HARD-SPL

Well, maybe that's indeed what is happening. The scenario you describe doesn't sound like a software problem at all. It sounds like your phone is either still locked to a network other than ROGERS, your SIM is not allowed on that network, or youir phone's IMEI is blacklisted.
Have you tried with a friend's SIM? Have you tried your SIM in a friend's phone? Where did you buy the phone from?
Cheers
Daniel
I think I fixed the problem! What I did was make numerous calls one after the other. The GSM would fail over and over again, until about the 10th call, it finally went through to my house line. Now the phone is working fine! No dropped calls, No GSM issues any more.
I have no explanation for why this worked, it just did.
Thanks everyone for your responses.

I just picked up this phone last weekend. It's unlocked, and it's working great with T-Mobile's towers, but the notification bar in the lock screen says "No SIM card - T-Mobile". The message is gone as soon as I unlock the screen. Only other problem is that the T-Mobile My Account app won't update my minutes/texts/data, but I don't care much about that.
Any advice on eliminating that message?

Since that's a custom rom, you might be able to go into the setting and change the Service tag? Try going into settings and try that also do you have the T-Mobile LTE APN?
I am trying to unlock a Samsung Galaxy Discover phone SGH-S730M. It is locked to Bell Mobility in Canada. I purchased an unlock code for it. My DH is a truck driver that frequently crosses the border so we are trying to reduce the amount of phones he carries
SIM card he is using state side is with ATT. He puts the SIM card into the phone and is getting "Invalid SIM" message. He isn't getting the network unlock screen. We pull the card and try again - same message.
Had him try #7465625*638*# - gets the network unlock screen. He enters in the 8 digit code - gets the error " connection problem or invalid MML code".
Is there any way of launching the network unlock screen without having to reset the phone? All of our kids pictures and things are on the phone and he'd be lost without them.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Hi
I bought a second hand Sony Xperia M4 Aqua E2303 and I'm having trouble making and receiving calls. I'm hoping someone can shed some light on what may be the problem.
The phone recognises each of the different sims ive tried (showing the network name in the top info bar) but none of them are able to make calls, the call just times out and ends without any dial tones.
The signal strength is always very low for each network so I wondered if there was a hardware issue with the antenna. While searching for some information I ended up on the Service Menu > Sim Lock screen. As each of the sims I've tried have been recognised, I assumed the phone was unlocked. However, the SIM Lock screen details are confusing me. This is what is displayed -
[X] Network: 0
[X] Network Subset: 0
[X] Service provider: 0
[X] Corporate: 0
]X] SIM: 0
From what I've read so far, when an "X" is next to either Network or Service provider, along with a number, the phone is locked with a certain amount of tries left to unlock it with a network unlock code. If Network or Service provider is marked with an "X" and has a "0" after it, the phone is hardlocked to a network.
What is confusing me is that every sim I've tried in the phone has not asked for any network codes, so again I am assuming the phone is already unlocked to all networks, but why is every line of the above info marked with an "X" and a "0"? Every screenshot I've seen of the SIM lock screen only shows an "X" next to Network, but why does every line of my phone show an "X"?
Thanks for any info you can provide.
It could be that the phone u bought was a defective one. But I will try to do some more research into that issue as it a unique issue and I never experienced this.
Update:- It might be locked to a carrier of some sort or it just could be some antenna cable inside the smartphone just came plugged off or its just some software bug.
Also have you tried resetting your phone like wiping the data completely from your Xperia? If not try that or you have reset it but its still showing that issue, well I cant help much after because I have ran out of what could go wrong on your device.
