Well I had hoped that this day wouldn't come,
But.... My TrueSmart has stopped working.
Not sure what the issue is..... I went to turn it on this morning like I always do... (I turn it off at night).
Pushed the "on" button and got no response from the watch. So I pulled the battery, put it back in, watch will flash white for a few sec and then be dead.
I swapped in the other battery I have... same thing.... So I thought that somehow the batteries drained themselves... so I connect it to charge and there is NO indication that it is charging... Left it for a while to see if it would come alive...
Nothing.
Very disappointing.
I was actually enjoying the watch very much looking forward to what the Devs were coming up with next. Pretty bummed out.
I guess I will put it in a drawer and one day when Laurent Le Pen opens a repair center I might be able to get it fixed.
Back to wearing my Pebble I guess.
Such a shame.... it was a nice piece of tech that started many conversations when people saw it.

I would not give up and still try to revive it. If the battery it's very low it will take some time and several tries before the watch will show signs of life. And the connectors of the dock may not be perfectly working, or even the cable may be faulty. I find it hard to think that the watch just stopped working out of nowhere.
If the battery drops below a certain level the watch will never charge it. The part of the firmware that is supposed to prevent this........doesn't work. The only option is to use an external charger but there may be a fire risk.
The battery situation sounds like it may be accurate as I did drain the battery the other day.
So if my only way to try and get a charge into the battery is to remove it and put it in a stand alone charger, what charger should I use?

What Loki said is true, many users reported that and even XDA review said same.
It would be great if someone knows for a external charger on ebay we buy and use if that happens.
Even there's a way to charge battery with a stripped wires on usb charger - that's something you shouldn't do if you don't know what are you doing...

The trick is to never let TS turn off by itself because of the battery level is too low...

I have let my TS run out by itself several times already, and it charges fine even after that. But it's noted that this is a bad idea..
Anyway, the batteries that came with my watch was about 70% charged from the box, so it sounds unlikely that the other battery that OP tried is completely drained as well. My guess is that there is something else wrong with the watch.

I use my TS without cell signal and I've found if I turn off the device and don't use it for a while then power it back on the clock and date will be out of sync until you turn on a data connection. This leads me to suspect it draws no power from the battery to retain these settings when the device is off, which would make sense about why it has this issue? I know for sure Samsung phones etc they display the battery percentage without the reserve to prevent such an issue happening on their devices. As Loki mentioned broken firmware maybe something could be written to prevent this or even to just show the percentage differently.
The time/date issue is because they removed the back up battery (to save space) that keeps the time on all normal sized phones.

My galaxy note tablet has this problem.... it runs down fast and then just looses all date and time lol...
I think the issue is my batteries....
I was doing some experimenting today and with some fiddling around I got the watch to respond....
Battery #1 was 8% and then in about 2 min of being connected to the charger was reporting 55%
Battery #2 won't even do anything....
So, I am convinced that the issue is the batteries and not the watch.
Laurent has contacted me and provided a way to get my watch replaced, but it will require me to send it back and then wait for a replacement to be sent
Rather than going through all of this just yet, I wanted to see if I could solve it first.
So, if I wanted to get a replacement battery on my own, any ideas where I could get one from?

watchdog service that prevents the battery from draining completely does not work on any of the firmware that Dees, Adam myself and other tested. So even if the battery is the best battery in the universe, an Omate can kill it. I even went so far as to test it with a Motorola battery and it killed that too.

We should get them to tell us a model number so we can source OEM's. What's the motorola battery model Loki tried with his?
Mines run down completely a number of times without issue but I think I'll have Tasker cut it at 5% from now on.

Right i seriously need help now guys.
My battery is completely and utterly- f*cked.
It says it is charging but it doesnt charge- the number changes but it goes for 80% then drop to 70% etc so i can never get a full charge.
I thought i fixed it last night when i drained it and recharged it back to as high as i could get it (94%), unlocked it this morning and it went from 70% when i locked it last night to 50%- and thats not the worst part- i sent 3 texts and it went to 15% battery, yes, 15%.
I am appaled at it and its well and truly put me off buying another Android phone or Samsung phone.
I need help now, if you guys cant fix it for me, my warranty is over from Carphone Warehouse and i cant be arsed with it.
I cant afford to simply go and buy a new phone so please dont say that kind of dumb suggestion.

Well, alittle phone info might help.
What phone is it?
How old is it?
If you do have warranty, I would suggest using it.
If you're rooted, try calibrating the battery, Either wipe the battery stats manually in CWM or just use this handy app from the market:

be sure to follow instructions precisely.
Check to make sure that all your apps that have updates where it can notify you are set to update in intervals of.every 1-2 hours. If you have several games on the phone that have a simulation theme to it like paradise island there are constant clocks that will run in the background regardless if you use a task killer. That I'm only like 90% sure but of. If you think about It things kinda evolve in the game each little item takes a form of clock in the code..which drains battery. The more.games you have the more constant clocks that will run. If you have several social networking apps I.e Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, Google+ etc or any other app that can post to one another social i.e Twitter will also post one Facebook at the same time. One post Will run both apps if one is always set to update like every 30 minutes both with run in the background. If any app that you log in with logs in with a.Facebook account then once you open that up and your signed in then the internet app will be active.because.its accessing.the internet to log in. So in the end check to see what the intervals are when apps refresh for notifications. Try setting your peek times and off peek times for updates, and uninstall Any apps that you haven't gone to for over a 4 days. The chances.are you rarely use them. Hopefully this helps. One last thing is that some batteries if it only takes 4 hrs to fully charge the battery stops charging and uses its own power regardless if its plugged in. Ie you plug the phone in when you go to bed at 10pm the phone takes 4hra so at 2am the battery no longer runs off the charger it runs from the battery itself. Then when you wake up it may aleady be at 80%.

So what your saying is when everyone that unplugs their phones in the morning and it says 100%, it actually means 80% or something other than what it reads? May I have some of what your having? That's crazy talk right there.

I never said everyone i said some.batteries and there's not many. If the meter says 100% then its at 100%. But my brother im not sure what phone he has but.when he unplugged his phone its at 94% and that when I said the battery will stop charging after its fully charges is what a Verizon store told him.

Thanks man, i will try your suggestions, it seems to off fixed itself- it drained itself twice over the past few days so ive just left it charging in my USB port and its got to 100% with the notification please remove charger, so yeah i think its fine now!

You need to redownload the Rom manager and do a new flash recovery. Other than that i think your battery might be just old. Batteries do have a limit to to how many times they can be recharged. That's why on new battery packages they say 1000 charges or something like that meaning after 1000 charges the battery will begin to increasingly die quicker. Sorry for the wording I'm not sure how to to word that. Youll probably be better off buying a new battery.

I cant do a new flash recovery as my phone isnt on the Clockworkmod Rom Manager list- i had to install it via ODIN, its alot of hassle.
Ive had this phone barely 6 months- it got replaced last time it got repaired, i find it hard to believe the battery is gone already :S

if you had your phone replaced you may have received a refurbished phone. Most businesses do that if your not there to pick a new one up.
I can try as a favor. Exactly what brand of phone do you have and version. I.E HTC Hero. if its a device that is on multiple carriers which carrier. I might have a battery laying around. If i have one they are in good shape I keep tons from friends who give me there old phones I use the phones for robotics but not the batteries So if you let me know what you have and if i have it i can mail the battery to you for free. I know how it feels when someone is in this case im more then will to help. its up to you.

Ooo. Galaxy I haven't gotten one of those. But if you look on the battery its should have information like 2600mAh Li-Polymer Rechargeable Battery. 3.7V 9.6Wh.
And on the bitten it will say "for use with Sprint smart devise EVO 4g by HTC Sony cells." That's for my phone yours will be different but similar. With that info i can try and find a battery that is compatible. If i don't I have a friend where i live that is the co owner soft this battery surplus store. They have every kind if battery imaginable. I can get one there and send it to you. Its not a problem because phones are a requirment and your in a sitiuation that I have no problem helping out with. Let me know what the battery info is and ill see what i can do

I have to remove the cable when it hits the green LED (99% full) and reconnect it again (LED turns red) to get to 100% finally.
When I contact HTC they tell me to send it for repair.
Buit this is obviously a software issue, not a hardfware issue.
An update would fix it easily.
My GF has same issue, and I swapped tyhe phone at the store in the first week because of this. New phjone exactly same problem.

Normal behavior. And if this is the only issue you are having (not really an issue) you are doing pretty well. The phone has a built in overcharge protection (as all phones do) that will charge the phone to 100% or just under then let it discharge to 90-95% and then charge again to 100%. There are SBC kernels for other phones that will change this effect by charging to 100% and then trickle charge it to keep it at 100%, but none made for the EVO3D because it really doesn't seem like a huge deal. And if you are really sending phones back over 1%, you are one picky dude.
I think your thread title is wrong. There are some great fully functional ROMs out there.
The battery will fluctuate from 95%-100% while on the charger. Think it's an HTC issue, or maybe Android. This isn't something to get all pissed off about IMO, maybe I am missing something though.

Just kidding. These issues are all normal for android phones. I have seen these issues on the Heroc, OG Evo, Samsung Epic and now Evo 3D.
It is not that I am picky.
You must agree that it is quite anoying if you sleep for 8 hours while charging, and you then see a green LED, but then to see 99%.
When you for instance have the alarmclock ringning, you drain 2 or 3%.
It is not normal behaviour I think. PLus bat-life was 2 days in the first 2 weeks, now I barely last a day.
Any thoughts?

There is no such type of issue on my evo 3d. I've tried around 15 different ROMs and all were functioning as they should.
The issue you have posted is not an issue. If you see green LED and numbers below 100% then your phone went to 100% before but you havent noticed that. I advise you to keep your eyes on the battery icon when the LED is red and % are near 98-99. You will notice it goes to 100% and red LED turns green. Then the numbers will go down as your battery discharges.
It is an overcharge protection made by the manufacturer.

What ROM are you on? Try a custom ROM for better battery life. I'm using ViperROM and plenty of people provide screen shots in that thread of their own findings (e.g. ridiculously long battery life).

You want your battery percentage to stay at 100 when you charge it? Get rid of your 3d, get an evo 4g, put a froyo ROM on it and use a sbc kernel. Other than that, quit *****ing. Like others have said its a built in over charge protection from HTC. Some may argue if its actually needed because i used an sbc kernel on my old evo ever since it was available and never had a problem with my battery. But is like 3-4% really that big of a deal?
Saying that there are no fully functioning roms is a bit rude imo, there are tons. I use warm 2.3 and it has zero problems.

It's not a issue, it's supposed to be that way. It has a "maintain" function once it reaches 100, it will let itself drain back to 95, the charge back to 100, then back down, etc.. It's to maintain the battery correctly .

It's not an issue you idiot. It's so your battery doesn't die for good after a short amount if time. They're not supposed to be fully charged like that. Educate yourself instead of looking like a fool.

If a lithium battery were brought to 100% and the charger kept charging it to keep it at 100%, you would have far worse issues than a 5% fluctuation, you would likely have a house that has burned down. Lithium batteries are very picky about their voltage, too much and they go into a runaway exothermic condition and become fireballs, too little and they go into a runaway exothermic condition and become fireballs.
Check out youtube videos about damaged or overcharged lithium batteries.
Honestly, this is a problem with all Android phones, I've gone from the EVO 4g to the E3D and I've had the same issue, though I wouldn't exactly call it a "problem"...
What I do when I wake is unplug my phone, check my email/social networks on it for a few minutes, let the battery drain a few % points, then plug it back up while I shower. It sounds weird, but unplugging and re-plugging really helps, as my battery then stays at 100/99% for at least an hour after I leave my house before beginning to drain.
I've noticed that if I don't do this, the battery drains a lot faster than it would if I had...

I mentioned this earlier -- I know it's a li ion that shouldn't need conditioning but when I first got mine my battery life was absolutely horrible. I went through two full discharge/recharge cycles and it seems to be much better now.
Currently 11 hours on battery, 50 minutes screen on, played a couple of games, downloaded a couple of apps, 15 minutes of voice calls, and battery is at 80%.
The way it was when I first got it, I'd probably be at 40 or 50% right now, if not even lower.
I'm also running juice defender and have stopped using the gmail app because you can't set the sync interval on it. Instead I've been using the built in email app and have it set to sync every 30 minutes. Not sure if any of this is doing anything but my battery life is definitely better than when I first got the phone. At first it was so bad that I came very close to just returning the phone.

That's true for me as well now that you mentioned it. First day, I got about 4 1/2 hours with it before i was down to 10%. I was shocked! Each day it has gotten a little better. Over the last 36 hours it has last a full days before a charge. It doesn't really make much sense to me that they are li-ion which shouldn't need conditioned but it seems that we do need to do this. A friend suggested I condition it when I got it and before I started heavily using it, I guess he was right.
Li-ion batteries don't need conditioned. Any signs of conditioning you see may be some sort of conditioning/learning of the OS.

See this kinda stuff freaks me out. I had one decent charge so far, had the phone a week, have been doing full discharge/charge the whole time. Sitting at 38% right now on 16 hours, about half of that was asleep with power save on (its been dropping 20-30% overnight) and only 48 minutes screen time. I dunno how long it should take to improve but it seems like its not taking this long for anyone else.

How long do you usually sleep for???
Seriously though, 20 - 30% overnight sounds like a lot. I tested mine and it dropped about 8% in roughly 7 hours of zero use while I was sleeping. I think even that is a little excessive but I can live with it.
Have you tried running something like Juice Defender? It seems to have made a difference with mine. When I got my S3 last week it was about the same as yours. I did a couple of complete discharge/charge cycles, installed juice defender, and have been going into the task manager and app manager and turning off all the crap that doesn't turn off automatically. It has made a difference.
Oh, and I also did the APN trick to disable LTE. Not sure if that has made any difference but with everything combined the battery seems to be doing a lot better than it was at first.
Don't "they" say that you should not use task managers as they don't work well with the phones? I'm no expert here, so don't quote me, but my understanding is that the One S and Siii owe a lot of their excellent battery lives to their own internal task managing.
Correct me if I'm wrong here.

The internal task managing is the reason you shouldn't use 3rd part task managers. That's the whole point. Android has done this since 2.0
Having said that, there's nothing inherently wrong with killing a task that is misbehaving... most things that say not to use task managers really mean to not (a) turn on auto task-killing, or (b) kill tasks across the board, albeit manually, under the false impression that freeing up RAM is a good thing.
When you guys say full discharge do you mean draining the battery till it shuts off or going down to 10%, I was under the impression that fully discharging would harm the battery.

I discharged it till zero. Then I turned the phone on and let it shut off again. I did this until the phone wouldn't even try to turn on any more.

Doing this enough times has the potential to damage your battery. Leaving it at 2% - 5% will not make a difference in the "calibration" compared to completely killing the battery.
Killing the battery may work for you, but I want others to be aware of the potential of damaging the battery.
Just my 2cents for the day.
Here. Is a link to battery charging for Li-ion. I have another site that is great in explaining these things. I have a couple of R/C trucks and this info is great to know and have. The same applies. To our phones charge rates. I would hope that when a dev makes up or mods a kernel that they have a basic knowledge of charge rates and the rest of the equations. Foe our batteries this is literally. Life and death. It could also cause a phone to burst into flames. Especially. If we use after market batteries that have poor protection circuitry in them.
I will find the other link later and post it up here to give a possible better understanding of these things. But, try not to rely on me as I tend to forget things a lot. Car accidents will do that to you when you crush your skull. Any way, GIYF.

You basically only need to do the "calibration" once. And the phone has limits set that will neither undercharge nor overcharge them.
edit I think heat is your batteries worst enemy.

This is the WORST thing you can do to a Li-Ion battery. I mean literally you can lose 10% of its life from doing this or even cause the battery to stop charging at all.

Seriously everyone should spend a couple hours on that site at some point. Half the information will probably be way over your head (or at least it was mine) but there's enough good information that even half of it is definitely worth learning.

Take into account though. These batteries have circuitry. Built into them to prevent you from truly discharging. It all the way. That doesn't mean that it can not discharge all the way. Things like humidity can play its roll in taking a Li-ion or Lipo battery past the kill zone point. If you know that you will not be using the battery for a good period of time or it is strictly an in case of an emergency battery. Place it into a plastic bag and suck out all of the air that you can and seal it. A zip lock bag works best. Place it in the refrigerator or freezer. There is very little moisture. In there. And what ever moisture makes its way in when you open the fridge. Or freezer will not have time to get into the zip lock bag. The lack of moisture slows the discharge process down especially in the summer. Also the chilling of the battery's chemical. Compounds slows the molecular interactions down. Its a helpful two fold process.

Check this out boys and girls. Approximately 2 months ago I got a new stock battery to replace the original that was causing reboots, which then showed the battery level at 0.
Started using the new battery and the same thing started last week. Reboot, low battery even when it was recently fully charged.
So I put the original in which hadn't been used in 2 months. Blast a full charge, wipe stats. And sure as ****, it works fine.
I almost wonder if it sitting for a spell and not being charged "refreshes" or replenished the life?
I'll keep you updated but thought it was weird.

There's something definitely fishy with the amaze. I had 2 of them, and I'd swap batteries with different charges, say one had 80% and one had 40%. After swapping the one amaze would read close to what the other did, within a couple percent, and the other one was way off, like 30% higher, and it would die way before reaching zero. Funny thing it was only the one that did that with a battery swap, so the amaze is just weird when it comes to reading the battery charge.

Yep same here for me. My battery stats are honky all the time and its frustrating. Sometimes when its at 20 percent I take the battery out then put it back in and goes up to 54 percent ...what gives?

It's not jstu the stats Nelly. It's the overall performance and the intermittent shut offs. Since putting the "old" battery back in I can report that after 1 week I have had zero shut offs. Battery is giving me about 7 hours on heavy usage.
Cant figure it out.

For example, I would be checking my email, or checking facebook, then BAM! Phone reboots/shuts off. The battery icon says I have 47% but in ext4 i have 85%. Wipe battery stats in ext4, works fine for like 30min. Same **** starts again.
Going through this everyday since 3days ago.

Have you contacted HTC. Call HTC direct and explain the issue. Ask them to send you a replacement battery. Stay calm, nice and let them know you need a new battery. They will ask you for a credit card to put on file and will tell you to return the old battery. If you dont have a cc ask them to speak with a suprevisor. They can waive the CC requirement if you are polite and don't get into a shouting match. As far as my battery, i am back to my original and it seems to be doing good still. I did have one reboot last week. But that's about it.

Well, you can stop wiping battery stats as a step, since it does nothing.. tons of info out there to show this is 100% fact https://www.google.com/search?q=wiping+battery+stats+does+nothing
If the engineer who helped design android isn't a good source, not sure who is.
As for the accuracy of reading the battery, pretty sure everyone has this issue.. someone recently posted something about the sensor being low quality, but who knows.
Apart from having reboots(which is an issue likely unrelated to battery except for maybe the OP), if you know your battery has 20%, but after a reboot it says you have more/less.. why does this matter, you know you have 20% worth of life left.
As for the OP, you may want to try flashing the stock RUU as there may be a serious problem with your system files, and flashing the RUU in the bootloader is the quickest way to know that EVERYTHING has flashed properly. Instructions in the bible in my signature.

It matters to me. A few times the battery icon/widget says 0 and the phone shuts off. I use the Vol and Power to get into recovery, and it says 20% or whatever it may be. Sure, I know it has 20%, but the OS detects it at 0 and shuts off.
I just remembered, a day or two before my initial post, my battery became super hot. I remember this because, I had the phone in my pocket, and it got really hot. Battery monitor widget reported the temp at 129 deg F. I guess the battery is shot.
I already ordered 2 anker batteries w/the wall charger.

I had the same issue about a month ago. Since receiving my Ankers no problems at all. On top of that 18-24 hours on a single battery is a pretty amazing perk for a $25 purchase

Been testing out the batteries extensively. OC'ing, flashing roms, backing and restoring in ext4, netflix, games, and LOTS of data lol. No random shutoffs as of yet.
I'm on Bulletproof 2.5 and after unplugging my Amaze, it stays at 100% (or whatever % i unplugged it at) for 10-30 minutes then my battery goes down by 2% increments and sometimes it hangs around at a random % for about 15 minutes and then continues its 2% increments again. Does any one have a similar issue? Is there a fix since wiping battstats does nothing.

Me and my wife have both an amaze. Her phone started to do the same thing and a couple of weeks after hers mine started. Since I'm an electronic technician I knew there has to be a problem with the connection on the battery. After inspecting the batteries I noticed that the four connections on both batteries had deep marks on them. To fix them, I used a small flat screwdriver and using the flat side scratched the four connections until the deep marks where mostly gone. It's been 3 months since I did that on both batteries and the problem hasn't come back. FYI the two connections on both ends are the + and - and the ones in the center are used for reading the battery status. Hope this help those with this annoying problem.

No matter what firmware/ROM/kernel combo I use, this issue is always there.
The problem I have is this:
I can have my phone on charge and it will charge at a rate of X.
While my phone is on charge, if I perform a reboot... it takes a humongous jump upwards.
My phone was at 14% when I put it on charge for 30 minutes and it made it to 39% I performed a reboot (~1min 30sec) and it jumped to 71% and then after 15 minutes up to 83%
The screen shot below shows this issue.
Is this normal?
Also, If I leave my phone on charge, usually overnight and the next morning when I leave its at 100% percent, it will drain fast at a rate of X
Once I get low on battery and charge it up, 100% or not, it drains a lot slower, say like .5X
I'm not sure if that makes any sense, but it's like my phone will last a lot longer charging it the second time during the day.
Hmm never seen that high of a jump after reboot, have you tried a different battery? I personally use laza batteries, I have two of them. So instead of charging using my phone, I use the external wall charger for one battery while I use the other and just cycle them.
You might wanna wiki lithium ion batteries, they behave in different ways depending on a lot of different factors

I have not tried a different battery. Never bought a 2nd one. I probably will not by another battery being that my contract ends the 27th and I will be looking to get the new DLX when it comes out. I figure I have dealt with this little issue for a yr, I can go a few more months
Was just curious if anyone has seen or had similar issues like this

Thanks for the offer, but I'm just going to hold out. When I'm in a city where the signal is constant 3g/4g i have a lot better battery life than when I'm around home and its in and out of no service / 1x / 3g
