[Q] changing the imei and other identification numbers - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hello
I have spare sim card (with wwan contract) from my wife's business and I would like to start use it.
I am planning to start use with any Android phone as a wifi accesspoint, but I would like to know is there is any possibility to change imei and other numbers due to fear about any communication between operator and wife's emplyeer.
So I would like to totally change any numbers which will be submit to operator in normal gsm activity. Is that possible by modifying the roms?
thank you

You can change the imei no. But it'll be showing invalid imei after changing..
And you can use mtkdroid tool for pc or mobileuncle tools for phone to change imei no. Of any android device, but make sure to backup your current imei no.
Good luck

Thinking of purchasing this phone

I just sold my Wildfire Buzz, which I successfully rooted.
Soo I think the ACE is logical and cheap upgrade for me.
Just wondering if I root this phone will it unlocked (from the three network)too or is that something separate?
And is their anything I should look in regards to this mobile?

Seriously, it's a very good handset, with a growing dev community. Worth to buy on my opinion.
Ah,no troubles after rooting, it will be simply more powerful!

Nothing changes on network side....
Just beware not to grant network access to any app to avoid unwanted network connections. Also use apn droid widget which will switch off any connection.

He is asking if you can unlock the phone from Three network. I believe you have to buy an unlock code though, have seen people bricking trying to use a root app to unlock.

[REF/Q] Samsung Galaxy SIII Live Demo Unit

Hello Gang,
I have a Samsung Galaxy SIII Live Demo Unit. It is basically a Galaxy SIII minus the SIM Card slot and MicroSD slot. I have noticed that the OS has minor limitations...for instance, I want to use the device under USB MTP so I can transfer the music and pics I added via bluetooth and I cant.
Has anyone seen this? Is there anything I can do, take screenshots or such so i can atleast run the true ICS TouchWiz. For instance, S Voice is not included, and I Want it. S Beam, SmartStay, NFC, Wifi Direct, DLNA, All Share, all that is in there.
Cheers,
Paul

I have Live Unit too and I have IMEI for that phone which has been given to me on paper.
Both Mitsuoka123 and myself are Samsung Mobilers and we got Live Demo Units for testing purposes.
I flashed stock ROM (and then SlimICS ) and no problems at all. Now I need to insert IMEI in my phone but I don't know how.
Can anyone help? Thank you in advance!

IMEI Restauration
Hello,
When you get a "Live demo unit", you have a generic IMEI 004999010640000.
You have to restore the IMEI to use the GSM.
You can find tutorials with a google search "IMEI restauration".
For Samsung Galaxy, you can have a look here :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1264021
I have just one issue, it seems that the method does not work on Samsung Galaxy S3... I tried all the combinations...

post number port prob

Hi all,
hopefully someone can help witth this.
got my new s3 i9300 from t-mobile and activated it with the new number.
ported my old number to new sim. This went ok but when I go to about phone/status/ my telephone number shows the old number.
This seems to cause problems with some apps so is there a way to correct "my telephone number".
thanks in advance

Have you tried a factory reset?
The phone number as reported by the device is stored on the Sim card and cannot be deleted or replaced on Android phones.
(Afaik some other phones allow it)
Most SIM cards only show "Unknown" since the provider doesn't even set the number.
You can either have it reprogrammed by someone with a corresponding SIMcard reader or phone, or have it replaced by your network provider.
yup

How to unlock phones.

Hey, I got a simple question: How to unlock phones, specifically CricKet phones. I want to learn to do this. Is there a FREE program to do this? If not, can I do it manually?

1. You need the unlock code for the device.
2. Enter the code.
Are you looking for the place to put the unlock code into the phone? Have you tried putting in another SIM card? My tablet just asked for the unlock code when I did that.

But, not all phones are GSM meaning not all use SIM card. What about CDMA phones, the ones that don't use SIM card?

Same for CDMA. You need a code.

I meant reflash it for another carrier other than the one it came on originally.
Anyway, once the new Qualcomm chip drops later this year this should become almost a non-issue.

What I've seen or learned so far is that you need to buy Flashing Programs but I would want one for free.
