Pass through the USB slot that the phone uses to the virtual machine, then it will got realised, install the universal naked drivers (you can google it, it is on xda plenty places.) after the installation you can flash the factory ftf with the flashtool. I don't know that in fastboot or flash mode (I think fastboot) but try it. The virtual machine uses designated space, so you need to pass over the necessary files to it.

According to the PC companion on the desktop the problem will be, that you use the original Sony drivers. Use the ones bundled in the flashtool, those are the ones that works. Go into device manager and remove the drivers currently installed (and of course the PC companion). Install the drivers you found bundled with the flashtool (install fastboot, flash, adb scomm and P drivers).
Now retry. I don't remember what combination you must use (I remember volUP+plug in).

This is a virtual PC so you need to pass through the USB each time you plug in-out the device (but you can automate it at the VirtualBox manager when plugged in on win8). If you have an old laptop or anything that can run a winxp and has an usb slot it may be more easy to use it.
It is an other thing, that the phone uses different drivers for fastboot mode, so you need to install them first (boot your phone into fastboot mode, then install the drivers) just after that can you flash the stock ftf.
Or if you want to use custom rom, you only need to flash the necessary kernel, then go into recovery, push the zip of the rom, install, enjoy...

I'm more then sure, that you need to use vol up + plug in USB for blue light for fastboot mode. This is Sony, not SonyEricsson. Those are tha last phones that used flash mode.

so, both volume buttons dont work , you installed all the necessary drivers , you are using windows xp and .... oh ! i think it also has to do with the usb type you are using ( usb 2/3 ) . I once had trouble rooting a phone at usb 3 and then i connected it to usb 2 and it worked !!!!

Okay, like 1-2-3
Steb-by-step instructions
1.
Delete anything that is related with the stock Sony things (PC companion and drivers currently installed)
2.
plug in phone, and automatize the USB pass through for the virtual machine at Virtual Machine manager
3.
install the drivers bundled with the flashtool
4.
boot your phone into fastboot mode (volume up and while it is pressed plug the phone into the USB).
For sidenote: you can turn off your phone like this: press vol up + power for 10 secs (until phone vibrates 3, 1 vibe is for restart, 3 is for shutdown). You can only go into fastboot mode when phone is turned off compleatley.
5.
If everything is set up (drivers, fastboot drivers, flashtool, stock ftf) shut down your phone (see above)
6.
start flashtool and go into flash, from the list choose the ftf you have copyed (I hope) to the flastool/firmwares directory, and it will say LT22i at the left column (BEWARE LT22i not LT22a !!!).
7.
click OK then you achieve the screen you posted, but with everithing set up. Press vol up and while doing so, plug in phone.
If you do everithing in the list, then the only thing that could be wrong is the virtual PC (Or you use USB3 instead os USB2 slot).
Enjoy.

I have one little thing in my mind, that the phone is not BL unlocked, which of course gives the above error. Try BL unlock if the phone is locked (don't know how to see it) but driver error could be the cause also. Virtual PC is not a full PC so anything can happen.

I turned off phone, started s1tool and clicked on "Identify", held back button and connected USB on the phone and nothing happened.
I really don't know what is problem.
Do I have to flash phone with flashtool to enable flashboot mode?
Do I have to install CWM to to enable flashboot mode?
What should I do to enable flashboot mode?
Nothing really, once the phone is in flashmode it doesn't matter what is or is not installed, and flashmode is a feature of the hardware, it's not software dependent.
Does the green light turn on when you connect your phone to the pc, holding the backbutton?

You don't have to hold it for that long, if your phone is turned off, you press the back-button and then connect your usb-cable it should enter flashmode in a matter of seconds, and the led would show green. I'm honestly not sure what is going wrong.
Hi I have a very similar problem. I started s1tool and clicked identify. I turned off my phone, held the back button and connected my phone to my laptop. However, nothing happened. furthermore, my laptop will hang and i have to restart it all over. can anyone tell me how is this so?

Try another version of S1Tool, and just start the application with the phone disconnected. Then click on "Identify", it'll tell you to turn off the phone and to connect it. Make sure the phone is off and you can connect the USB cable to the computer, just not to the phone. Now hold the back button, (the one with the arrow above it). While holding, connect the USB cable and don't release yet.
If it still fails after this, I'd say try it on another computer.
Found out how!
I've had the same problem, and after I exit the software, Windows told me to run it as Administrator. It worked!
I guess you have to right-click the s1flashtool, then press "Run as Administrator", then it can detect your phone.
Cheers!

[Q] [SOLVED] problems getting alt. baseband on ray with cm9.1

hey guys,
slowly i'm getting a little bit desperate actually i'm not sure, if my problem at the moment is flashtool or cyanogenmod 9.1 which brought ics on my phone or whatever. hope you can help me
i have an xperia ray and was on stock gingerbread 4.0.2.A.0.69 with baseband 8x55A-AAABQOAZM-203028D-66. but as the stock xperia included kraken facebook stuff, i finally wanted to get rid of it, so stock ics was no option. then i heard of cyanogenmod, which my friend had installed on his samsung galaxy s, and it worked perfectly there out of the box, so i wanted cm as well...
so on friday i installed cm9.1 stable from download.cyanogenmod.com/?type=stable&device=urushi following this guide: wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Sony_Ericsson_Xperia_Ray:_Full_Update_Guide
everything worked fine except of no phone and mobile data connection. i researched, and it seems the xperia ray wants baseband 72 to work properly. so i installed latest flashtool 0.9.3.0, installed the proper drivers with flashtool-drivers.exe fomr flashtool folder "drivers" and tried. the second try i finally managed to get the ray's green light signaling flashmode, but flashtool disconnected in between, and on the ray one could see an image that looked like a glass with a green liquid in it... well, as flashtool had closed the connection, i waited a little bit and - as nothing happened - unplugged the usb cable and tried to reboot the ray fearing that i had bricked it. actually i didn't, the ray booted up, _and_ i had phone and mobile data connection! so i thought everything was fine even as my phone info still says "Baseband: 8x55A-AAABQOAZM-203028D-66". first i thought "anyways, everything works fine".
and so it seemed, but today as i was visting my parents, where i normally have a fine phone and mobile data connection, there was nearly nothing, and so i thought, i have to get bb72! but i don't get the ray into flashmode anymore
i read tons of guides, tried several variations of plugging and unplugging points of time... no way... somehow i also fear that my problem might be that flashtool wants the phone to have usb debugging and msc mode on, which i did, and when i start flashtool with the phone plugged in it says "Device connected with USB debugging on", but after the unplugging, shutting down the phone and connecting it again with the back-button pushed and holding it says "Device connected with USB debugging off" and "For 2011 devices line, be sure you are not in MTP mode". maybe that's because i don't get the device into "green light flashmode" or maybe (as i had read about meanwhile) because with ics msc isn't (fully) supported anymore?
so, can you please help me? any suggestions how i can get that baseband flashed on my phone? should i try it with the linux version of flashtool, or are there still any possibilities on windows (xp sp3)?
thx a lot, and by the way: phantastic work, that all you developing guys and helpers do for us!
my current system:
Phone: Xperia Ray (Urushi)
Android: 4.0.4 [ICS]
Baseband: 8x55A-AAABQOAZM-203028D-66
Kernel: 2.6.32.9-FXP [email protected] #1

EDIT: hey again... i finally managed to get into the green light flashmode somehow, but flashtool still says:
09/006/2012 18:06:55 - INFO - Device connected with USB debugging off
09/006/2012 18:06:55 - INFO - For 2011 devices line, be sure you are not in MTP mode

so i looked around, if there is maybe any other way to get that baseband flashed on the system, and i found a thread called "[Q] Flashing .ftf file without flashtool?" that states, it was possible with fastboot: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1562110
so i'd like to try that. unfortunately that thread got stuck exactly at the point where it was about getting the right commands to flash certain files - e.g. for a baseband
what i did so far is: i renamed the baseband-ftf to zip and unzipped the zip. the following files are included:
adsp.sin
amss.sin
amss_fs_urushi.sin
apps_log.sin
fota0.sin
fota1.sin
loader.sin
plus a folder called META-INF, but i guess that one isn't needed.
to flash the boot.img, when installing cm9.1 the cm-guide posts that command:
fastboot -i 0xfce flash boot boot.img
the guy from the thread "[Q] Flashing .ftf file without flashtool?" posts those examples:
fastboot flash boot kernel.img
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash userdata userdata.img
so, what are the commands to flash those "sins"? and do i have to use that "-i 0xfce" part, or is "fastboot flash" enough?
hope, someone can help me with that
thx a lot again!

Hi,
How are you trying to put your device in flashmode? If you do exactly what flashtool says, you wont get it.
You have to turn off your device, select flashmode in flashtool, press and hold Volume Down Key and then connect the phone to your PC.
The Back Key is not functioning for our Xperia, but Volume Down yes!

hi,
hm, i'll give it a try, but all the guides i found concerning the ray explicitly wrote about the back/return button like e.g. this one here talk.sonymobile.com/thread/24433
and as i wrote in my original post and in my edit i managed to get into green light mode with back/return button, but flashtool "just" didn't recognise that the ray anyways - despite it being connected with usb debugging and msc mode on - which is because of a problem concerning ics and msc mode i fear...
but i'll try it with volume down anyways. there can't happen more than before
is there anybody out there who possibly might help me with the fastboot solution?

Also i dont know if it happens on the newer flashtool version but if you leave it connected to flashmode for too long it automatically breaks the connection. you should always drag'n'drop the ftf into flashtool and set alll that up and only enter flashmode when it tells you too after its all ready to go.

hope, i won't have to flash around too often but thx for the tip
what i also found out accidentally yesterday, is the fact that msc actually works properly on ics/cm9.1, if you explicitly tell your device to connect as mass storage.
before the upgrade to ics i simply plugged the ray into the pc or mac, and the micro sdcard showed up like an additional volume. it didn't anymore after the upgrade. the device said something like "usb connected" in the info bar, but nothing more happened.
yesterday i checked that message in the info bar more accurately, even tapped on it, and tadaaa, the option was shown to "turn on usb storage": jayceooi.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/SGS2-ICS-USB-Mass-Storage.jpg
so easy and so far away simultaneously; unbelievable. anyways, i have "real" msc now again

Hello everybody, after trying to root my phone in order to eliminate apps pre-branded, my phone doesn't start anymore, black screen.
I tried to use both PC Companion or Flashtool, but the problem is still the same, they are not able to connect to the phone because of the failure to install MTP device driver when I connect phone to pc via usb.
I spend ALL the day trying to solve the problem..
Any help will be appreciated, Marco

Yes I did several times using under drivers directory Flashtool-drivers.exe (even if I'm not sure WHAT drivers I have to chose..). After that the problems still remains , in the device Manager I see that APT Driver is not correctly installed.
Is it possible to download somewhere this driver ?
Any other suggestion, I'm getting crazy :silly:

Why are you trying it with the unbricking ftf? Have you tried flashing the stock rom?
Install Sony Update Service, it should have the drivers, too. Turn phone completely off (pull battery), wait 10 seconds, insert battery, launch flashtool, select the stock ftf for your phone, hit okay, hold volume down (on phone) and while holding it connect phone to pc :good:
Tell me why did your phone brick?

Well, I was trying to root my Sony Ericsson Walman in order to uninstall some app pre loaded by manufacturer. I've flashtooled ST18i_4.1.A.0.562_(1252-5332).ftf and after that I'm no more able to switch on my phone, black screen, even if if I remove battery the green led is on.
I tried to unbrick phone using Flashtool, PC Companion, Sony Update Service, BUT the error I have is always the same, when the phone is attached to the computer, the MTP device drivers fails and return RC = 10.
@ mihahn
Could you please what "stock" ftf is and where can I find it in order to try to perform your suggestion ? Thanks again

[SOLVED] Help with ST18 bad flash.

Hi
I will try to be brief.
I have a ST18 (which has a bad flash that stops the screen working - if I press power button I can press power off/airplane mode etc but otherwise the screen is unresponsive).
The phone will not go into fastboot mode or be recognised in fb mode in windows (tried 3 different cables and 3 different pcs).
Windows 7 will recognise the phone but will not allow me to install the fb drivers ( I have tried everything, including disabling driver signing and getting windows to ask me what drivers to install).
On an XP machine, I still cannot install fb drivers but PC companion/flashtool/s1tool recognise the phone.
I have tried to work through the advice on here and reflash with various fw with flashtool but it will not fb and flash mode always stops with a security issue at the start of flashing. S1tool stops at the start of flashing with different issues depending on fw such as cannot send s1 command. DoomLord's toolkit does not recognise the phone.
I have tried everything I can find on this forum and on the web but don't want to write pages for you to sift through.
Any pointers would be really appreciated.
Thanks

Can you post your log from flashtool and give some more information, like what you did before the problem started, if your bootloader is unlocked, are you rooted, and if you are on a custom ROM or running stock. If your bootloader is locked, have you tried to use PC Companion or SUS to fix your phone?

Thanks for the quick reply justmpm
Sorry I cannot be too specific - the problem started after the phone was "unlocked" by a mobile shop.
From what I can work out, the bootloader is locked and the phone is not rooted. The phone was updated by SEUS to the latest stock.
I have had various flashtool errors, the latest of these was Read error :31 : A device attached to the system is not functioning. If I try another flash to save the log, would it be a good idea to use a particular fw as different fw give different logs?
Thanks
Any ideas at all would help.

Hi
Yes, installing the flashtool drivers was the only way anything would work. Before that nothing worked which made me think this was more of a driver problem but then it does seem like the phone may be a problem with not being able to go into fastboot.
Thanks
Re: [Q] Help with ST18 bad flash
i think usb debugging is disabled on your phone and the unlocking procedure has your touchscreen firmware corrupted...
did u try repair phone option in SEUS..?
the reason why you got the device is not functioning error is because the usb debugging feature is disabled, not sure though..
can provide me the other errors you encountered in flashtool, maybe i can help you out..

Hi a|\|droid_user
What you are saying makes sense.
S1tool gives me the error
llbug:[\\?\USB#Vid_0fce&Pid_e161#43423531315632314D4C#{a5dcbf10-6530-11d2-901f-00c04fb951ed}] open error: "The system cannot find the file specified"
Here is my log for flashtool, the first is for the basic Nordic fw pack, which I read worked for other people. The second is for A fw which I think is right for my phone and the next is for B fw. The only one which seems to start to flash is the second one.

Hi alund
Thanks, I have tried different cables and PCs and eventually got one working but not with the standard drivers, only with flashtool and Gordon's gate drivers.
I am not sure if the drivers I have are good or not (I found them on a download site) or if it is a problem with the phone not going into fastboot (so the system not knowing it needs the fb drivers) but when I try to install drivers for fb mode they are not recognised.
Another thing is that, from what was said and from a small mark on the phone, it may have been dropped.
I am still searching for answers but I have still not got any ideas where I need to start.
Does anyone think it is a particular issue (maybe the phone or maybe the pc/drivers)?
Thanks

Another thing is that, from what was said and from a small mark on the phone, it may have been dropped.

Thanks jesudas - you're a star!
Not completely solved but I've got the right drivers installed so I'm pretty sure it is a phone problem.
Can anyone tell me if it is possible to change the USB settings of my phone without using the touchscreen (maybe using a pc connection or something)?
Gr8..........

Solved
Thanks for all of your help.
I downloaded fresh copies of flashtool and drivers and re-installed everything.
As I was setting administrator privileges I noticed that the start menu shortcut was pointing to the 32 bit version not 64.
As my system is 64 bit, I started up the right version and it flashed ok.

Please add solved in the title.

[Q] Xperia P stuck at bootloop, CWM inaccessible

When I try to boot my phone, the sony logo shows up and then nothing happens. I have CWM installed but pressing vol. down doesn't open the recovery. I tried to flash stock firmware using flashtool, but when I connect phone in flashmode/fastboot mode, the phone connects properly for about 10 seconds, then boots and again stuck at sony logo.
I know I'm supposed to connect only when flashtool says to connect the phone, and doing just that but still not working. Please help!

It'sa good thing you forgot to mention what windows version you are on or ig you have used flashtool before on that PC so we can waste some time while you waiting for help.
Is your phone completely turned off when you are trying to connect in flash mode?

Sorry. I'm on Windows 8, and yes, I've used flashtool before. I also tried to flash from a different pc with windows 7, and the same problem is there.

@hoodakaushal
I assumed you used it before, I asked if you have used it on that PC.
Try latest version of flashtool: http://www.flashtool.net/
See the FAQ for instructions to install on windows 8.
Also, USB 3 ports won't work, so use USB 2 ports or if you don't have those look at the BIOS for option to switch from xHCI to EHCI.
