How do we know if our rom is taking advantage of XLTE / AWS spectrum?
Also, should we be running the network on Global or LTE/CDMA ?
Advice appreciated thanks

I downloaded an app called 'Advanced Signal Status' from the Play store. It says I'm on LTE 14. From my reading today, I was expecting to see either 13 (reguar LTE), or 4 (AWS/XLTE).
I live in PCB, and the rollout included P'Cola and Tallahassee. I'm not sure if I'm under either of those umbrellas, so I wanted to check. Since I don't know what the 14 meains, I'm not sure what I've got. But you could give it a try.
Note that to access the part of this app that will provide this info, you have to be rooted.
Hope this helps.

Yes. You have to be on mj7 modem or above to have access to band 4 aws or xlte as Verizon has rebranded it.

I am on CM11 5/18 nightly and just flashed the latest modem I545VRUNC5. I am in one of the markets for XLTE and wasn't sure if I had to do anything to my phone in order to get the XLTE. But found that once I flashed the latest modem and later in the day, found that speeds were faster without changing any settings. Prior to flashing NC5, I was on MJ7 but wasn't getting the speed. Guess it could have just been the time of day and the rollout was still on it's way, but no matter now.. very happy with it!!!!

Make sure you grab the one that says it's the modem only

I'm currently rooted on MK2, stock ROM and everything, and have no desire to go any further than just upgrading the modem, can I install only the necessary modem over MK2 or do I need to do a complete upgrade of the ROM and/or firmware?
EDIT: I just read the last page in that modems thread and people are saying MK2 should be able to take advantage of AWS, however I'm still getting the same speeds I've always been getting. What gives? I'm in Rochester NY and others in my area have confirmed they are now seeing AWS service levels.

You have the MK2 Modem, which is already above MJ7, so no need to worry about that.

I have just performed 2 out of 3 video tests I plan to do with my Galaxy S4 to address this very issue. All are on the same device. Video #1 is LTE test and, just a few minutes after, Video #2 is testing XLTE.
I have yet to find a "Application" that shows properly Band 4 or Band 13 so we can tell, but the Service Menu DOES TELL! You just have to unlock it. Also, I had previously thought that XLTE was using both bands to double it's bandwidth. This of course is NOT the case. The device switches over entirely from one band to the other. The Service Menu shows that Band 4 mode is utilizing 20Mhz as apposed the original 10Mhz on LTE Band 13. Double the Mhz bandwidth, that explains it!

Galaxy note I717 running on aws(wind/T-Mobile) with ics

OK guys does or has anyone gotten some luck running a i717m note on aws band with either wind or T-Mobile? I have tried different roms, radio and mods still no luck
If someone that has gotten it to run good please post what step you took and what from and radio plus any mod required that would be awesome.
I need a stable ics rom. I have a i717m which is from bell mobility
. Thanks in advance

The author is studachris. I copied this from a thread about T-mobile, just a little way down. There are several threads infact, so take a few minutes and find them. I know the xda search function sux but googling "using at&t galaxy note on t-mobile or wind" will get you all the advice and files.
Come back if you have any questions.
"Roms and modems are interchangeable, meaning you can use whichever modem you want, on whichever Rom you want.
The blaze modem is what you want to use for t-mobile
Also the apn settings for t-mobile would probably be beneficial"
I'm not blowing you off. Learn by doing.
Here is an example:

Capt is absolutely right. Been using the orig Blaze modem/radio on several ROMs (used mostly ICS CM ROMs). All have been stable with 3-9 mb d/l and crummy upload speeds as reported in the T-Mobile modem thread.
hey I have tried to look for it.
I've spent over 20 hours the other day/night flashing different roms and modems and searching though forums on here and google.
That is why im posting to ask if anyone has had any luck. it seem the modem I have flash really some only work with aokp rom but and the speed are good but i lost out on the s apps or I have only been able to get things working with the kid test modem it seem the blaze or blaze 4g lb7 doesnt like to work on wind while using uclf6 roms custom stock roms. but i will give that a try and see what in that link. I am just trying to get this thing up and running so I dont have to be carrying around 2 phones with me all day .
ps: I have over 7gb of rom data download that other night too its still sitting on the desktop so pretty much every ics rom and stock restore rom plus radio has been downloaded

Are you inputing APN settings? You can't get data without that.
Yes I have done that and the phone auto finds the apn for wind
but even after manual input still same thing. I have even tried the *#*#4636#*#* code and configure on that as well and *#2263# for the other rom still either one if the radio is good for voice or the other for data. I wish they had one that worked on both and good

AT&T ICS Radio - GPS Broke
AT&T JB Radio - Network Shows Maritime (not AT&T). "According to dvhexer Maritime is also AT&T." After placing a call it shows disconnected and appears in the notification pulldown / status bar (Call does go through however). Some users experienced fast data speeds and better battery life over the ICS radio.
N4 (mako) 0.48 - No LTE (Currently running on my device with T-Mobile's Network)
N4 (mako) 0.33 - You tell me.
N4 (mako) 0.27 - You tell me.

Thanks for making an all-in-one radio thread. As far as my personal experiences with the other radios...
.27 - Good data, slow gps lock
.33 - Way better data speeds, still slow gps lock (still took a bit to get a good lock but slightly better than .27). Also, not sure if it was just me but I noticed the data would "stall" out at times. Switching airplane mode on/off seemed to fix it.
As far as differences between the AT&T ICS/JB modems...I noticed only a slight difference in data speeds but the GPS lock speed is marginally better in the JB radio. The Maritime network issue on the JB radio is harmless but annoying to people with OCD...

I would generally agree regarding .33, though I didn't get vastly better speeds than JB modem, only marginally better. I did get data 'stalls' on .33 that I have not experienced on JB modem.

My favorite for call reliability (incoming) is the AT&T JB Radio, despite the odd bug when making a call.
So what radio came with Rootbox? Because I'm on that and it doesn't say maritime or anything. Also gps doesn't lock unless I run gps fix and signal strength is worse compared to stock ICS

Yup. I was on the Canadian RootBox since February (or maybe March?) after flashing the Canadian TZ. Then I LGNPST'd using TeenyBin. I have never seen "maritime" a single time.
Flashing with the newest cwm on houstonn's PA and the latest houcha kernel I've found extremely good and stable results out of mako .33 radio. No call bug, GPS locks very quickly with great accuracy and so far no excessive heat or missed calls or signal issues on hspa/Hspa + network. Will be going in to lte country and will do some additional testing tomorrow. Battery drain has been on par with the default jb radio from att.
No radio from ICS,JB or att modems will activate LTE on this phone if your on T-Mobile. I have T-Mobile and LTE in my area and I have possibly tried everything I can from turning on LTE on the hidden service menu ( must be on stock ROM to do this) and build prop. No AWS support for this phone.

I live in solid LTE country, but am getting throttled for abusing my unlimited plan, so my test numbers will be useless till the 15th. But when I'm back to speed I'd be happy to thoroughly test these radios. Any tips for how to standardize these tests to make it as scientific as possible? Maybe agree to a certain rom, a specific build date, a specific kernal and speed test app. Then test gps lock time/accuracy, lte ping/speed, and hspa+ ping/speed. I have access to an AT&T microcell if anyone would be interested in those results as well.

Also, user Neroga said he had success flashing the OG Pro radio (found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=41191727 ) and then flashing the .33 mako radio. Does anyone know of any reason why the combination of flashing one radio then the other might fix a problem, that flashing just the one radio won't? And if so, would it be possible to create a hybrid radio which combines the best properties of the two radios so as to remove a step from the flashing process?

No. Basically he flashes the OG Pro radio which removed his previous radio. Then he flashed the mako radio which removed the OG Pro radio. Someone correct me if I am wrong.... These radios are closed source and extremely protected. Hacking them can lead to bricked phones etc. I have yet to see a modified radio for any phone. There is a reason radios typically are not included is custom ROMs.
Hope that answers some of your questions.
Please note: flashing the OG Pro radio is not recommended nor does it fix any issues with our device.

can we install a sprint note 2 rom (touchwiz) on the i605?

i understand that the sprint n2 data partition is different, but if we changed that mount point within the install script could we feasibly install it and it work after we flashed the config file as well? i know this is probably a dumb question, but it was one that came to my mind after venturing off into the sprint n2 forum. thanks!
Not unless you intend on using your device... I think developers can help put those features on another device, if it isn't for your model, don't flash. You'll save yourself tons of headaches.

Actually, I was reading up this morning about AT&T ROMs on the Verizon Note 2 and it is not only doable, but also works pretty well. When done from what I just said (Flashing AT&T to Verizon) you are obviously locked out from Verizon and 4G LTE but if you have an AT&T or any GSM SIM for that matter it will work. The only real issue is GPS not working, for some reason our devices don't like the GPS setup from any ROM's other than Verizon's.

I tryed putting it back to global but still nothing i get no data on global .currently using gsm mode and im only seeing 2 bars of reception most of the time . the speeds are from 0.72 mbps to 4.0 download and same for upload ping at 601 ms not fast at all very disappointing . so if someone can please help me out i would really be thankful . also im using metro pcs which is basically merged with tmobile

What baseband and modem revision are you running?
It sounds like the area that you're in just doesn't have good coverage in the bands that the Verizon GS4 covers. If you have an AWS-capable modem, it might get you better coverage (if T-mobile has AWS, that is.). But in the end, you bought a Verizon phone. Using it on other carriers is always going to be spotty.

Well follow this to the T of you want to root and rom and also read read read as I don't have safe strap and doesn't apply to me. I have the first bootloader is why I don't really have to to much info on it. Also if you don't care maybe just update to the newest and have the newest radios to test. They are better imo.

Verizon XLte going online

I'm surprised no one has posted this here... but I thought it was interesting!!
http://www.verizonwireless.com/news/article/2014/05/verizon-wireless-xlte.html
Our Lg G2's are compatible per this website as well...
I haven't seen any increase in my area yet (greenville, sc) even though it's listed on verizon's site as one of the initial cities. Anyone else noticed a difference in their dl speed?
I just got off the phone w/ a verizon rep who said that there is nothing we have to do... a software update will be pushed to the phone. I am assuming this won't be the case for those of us who have a custom rooted device so it will be up to our devs!

And please correct me if I'm wrong, but if we have a custom recovery on stock then I'd have to either revert to full stock or wait for a dev?

More than likely just an updated modem...shouldn't take devs very long to make a rec flash version
Odd. The article was written well over a month ago and I'm just seeing/hearing about it now. So it's as if we're already benefiting from it, yet I haven't heard any dev mention anything about it or about including it in their rom. Maybe there is nothing for them to update, no?
This is old news, AWS has been active for months.

Pretty much this. As long as you have at least the 12b modem that is all you need. Its been active in the NYC area for months now.

I believe it was the 24b modem that enabled AWS, but either way it was since this past winter.
anyone seen this in the Tacoma / seattle area?
