I am having huge issues with my battery on my galaxy s2. It drains really fast, 60% over the last 15 hours this night when the phone has been idle. This has been an issue for about a week now; I cannot seem to find a solution? I have tried various roms, wiping and doing a clean install, but the problem continues. Currently using lightening rom 3,2.
Do anyone know what can be causing this battery drain? Is the battery defective??
What apps do you have installed?

That is quite a drain I can see there. The drain might be caused by having too many widgets or having too many applications open. If you plan to put it on standby, do close those apps that are not important to you.
Have you tried rebooting?
I have a stock lightening rom 3,2. no apps installed, except titanium backup pro and opera mobile. I have frozen all kinds of stuff in titanium to try find the cultprit, but without success. As you see, no apps except andoid OS is running. Same drain on villainrom, lightening. Don't know what can be causing the error. Is there some way to check if the phone or the battery it self is to blame?
Try with screen on - normally I think that should run for 6 hours or so. Using that as a reference, you can check to see if the energy stored in the battery is normal. It doesn't look like your OS is staying overly active to me.
Hi bjorninge,
Every time after you flash a new ROM you should calibrate your battery.
Get the app "battery calibration" from the market and follow instructions and please report back whether you can achieve better performance.

I have a similar issue, as was the same with my captivate. I have stock ROM on my GS2 though, the way I got it out of the box pretty much. Android OS takes up most of the battery usage. I don't know what it is. Widgets updating constantly? The constant syncing from Gmail/push email?
Well that's surprising! Awake and Screen On bar is quite low and totally synchronized, yet 60% drain, now I gotta say it's weird.

Tried calibrating the battery, but it doesn't seem to help too much

Unfortunately, I have the same issue as you've described above. I am running on stock KE2 kernel and the battery drain is quite a lot. The 'Android OS' is always consuming a lot of processor time on standby mode.
This needs to be fixed A.S.A.P.!
Download and install the app BetterBatteryStats from Android section, it is a very useful app which will show what Awaking the device from deep sleep and processes too. For me, it was the damn Latitude stuff going on background and wasn't letting the device to go to deep sleep.
Regards.

Thanks for the tip. I have downloaded the app now. what spesifically should I look for?
You just look under 'Wakelocks' and you will know what apps are causing the Awake, then you could take further steps.
Regards.
Would be great if you could look at the screenshot and tell me if something is wrong. Also, after the battery calibration, I've "only" lost 26% the last 7 hours mostly idling. I don't see anything abnormal in the screenshot I provided :/
Well nothing is wrong imo as everything is very low. You should check those which are using more than 10 mins Wakelock, some seconds doesn't matter actually. And you can post any query further to the original thread of this app, here,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809
Regards.
OK, So I'm now back to 12% battery usage (from 100% to 88%) with 17 hours and 30 mins on battery, which IMO is normal.
What did I do? Well, I removed the battery and put the rest of the phone into the stove for an hour on 50-60 degreed celsius. My 98% android OS usage is gone and the battery works as normal .I also had problems with the phone constantly going into "car mode" which is now gone.
I got some tips around the internet that my issues were all related to moisture on the inside of the phone.
I was just wondering on how long your battery life was, I guess when comparing to idle time. I ask because this was the main issue of mine as to why I havent flashed anything. When idle I was getting up to about 3 - 4 days of battery.
If battery life is important to you I would avoid all ROMs other than stock.
Flashing 3rd party ROMs is likely to damage you battery calibrator which causes you battery life to drain rapidly since calibration gets all screwed up.
Nobody knows specifically what is causing this serious issue but what we do know is that it happens when you flash a 3rd party ROM/Kernel.

custom roms usually use the stock kernel. what you get on your stock rom, you should get on a custom.
battery life is also subjective and variable, depending on your useage patterns, etc.

Once again... lick my butthole 5thelement. Man you really bring out the class in me tonight bro.
I've been using task650s ROM with great battery life. I did have the battery drain issue which I don't think is really ROM related but once I went through the suggested calibration on this forum everything has been great. Think I've had my Tab on for 5-6 days with it at idle through the night and earlier parts of the day and using it for internet browsing and music around the house each evening. Turned it off last night with 30-40% battery left (just a guess).

Yea I am familiar with screwed up battery life calibration on my Captivate. I was getting anywhere from 8 hours to a day and a half which was why I was asking.

Really? Hmm thats good to know, I will look into that one then if I consider flashing.
Heavy usage (a lot of browsing, notes, some games) nets me a little over a day. My usage can be heavy and nonstop.
My average is around 2 days before I have to charge. That's mostly moderate heavy. My usage is abnormal but I can say I'm happy with its battery life.
Using tasks rom and pershoots kernel.
My usage is heavy everyday so I get about 7 - 8 hours of screen time by the time I go to bed and usually I am around 30% - 35% left. I use it all day for when I am on the train or in class. Running Starburst KME at the moment but I got the same average battery life on all ROMs using stock kernel. Pershoots kernel is reliable and I could go an extra day if I wanted.

yeah, battery life for the galaxy tabs seems to be pretty poor! i just can use my 10.1v (stock) for only about 3 or 4 days. just for a little bit of wifi surfing and ebook reading (wifi switches off during standby).
i really love my galaxy tab, and i hated my ipad, but regarding battery life i used to charge my ipad only once a month!!! really. and i used it exactly for the same things as my galaxy tab.
samsung promised it to have similar battery life as the ipad...one more lie from them...
Is this normal? I've had several android phones and this is the first time I'm seeing Cell Standby kill SO much battery.
I'm on stock rom with tibu frozen/removed bloated apps.
Same, it seems like cell standby time is around half of the battery usage. It's ridiculous, especially considering the screen is usually the battery drainer. I've heard that others have had this problem, and that, specifically, it was very prominent on the International Version. But I heard, however, that they supposedly fixed it for the US versions.
While I'm not sure about this, especially since many others, on other carriers, have also complained about the cell standby draining battery. If anyone has a clear answer, it'd be great.
Aside from the fact that so much battery seems to be lost due to cell standby, I am able to go around a day and a half with one battery, according to my "Battery Manager".

Is it searching for signal? If your in a week signal area it'll kill the battery quick.

it shouldnt be. prior to this s3, i had an htc one x, a note, an s2 skyrocket, an s2. never had an issue with cell standby til this s3.

This has been posted multiple times BUT...the Cell Standby reporting is an error - it's not really taking that much battery it is reported wrong. I'm getting expected battery life even with Cell Standby being so high - just ignore it UNLESS you're getting abnormally low battery life.
The bug is ONLY with the "%" displayed by battery in stand by mode.
The fix won't improve the battery.
the real value of the "cell stand by" should be divided by 10
so, It's only a display error.
http://www.xda-developers.com/andro...ii-cell-standby-power-drain-issue-identified/
thanks, that makes a lot more sense. ill apply the fix so I can better understand what exactly is killing my battery.
I've come from using the ipad air to the Z2 and over night the battery drains by over 50%.
See attached.
I didn't use the device at all and stamina mode was on. This is frustrating since the ipad can stay in standby for days without even 5% drain.[emoji15]
Anyone?

Well, for starters, not sure if the battery temperature chart you attached will help.
So you say it goes from 100% charge to 50% overnight? If so,you got some serious issues there. Typical loss is from 3-5%.
But 50 is absurd.
When you check the battery usage, what kind of usage is going on? Display of course is a biggie and uses the most. It's possible some application is keeping the tablet awake/display on. This might explain it a little.
I will explain how to read it. If the usage chart states "Display 54%", then it means of the 50% battery you lost, the display was responsible for 54% of "that" figure. That's how to properly read it.
But you need to find out where the drain is. I suspect a "rogue" app or a bad battery perhaps. A rogue app can certainly cause it, as with running some strange mods that just don't get along well. So you are going to have to hink back and remember what you changed just before you noticed the drain.
You can install an app called Better Battery Stats, and it might actually pinpoint what is causing the severe drain.
You have already installed GSAM Battery Monitor, so you should be able to find the cause for your battery drain.
Do you already have the Root Companion App installed, too? If not you probably should do so, this should provide better stats. Your tablet needs to be rooted, though.
After the drain appeared, open the GSAM-App and select ´App Usageˋ or so (my app is in German, so I donˋt know exactly). Then select ´Show Kernel Wakelocksˋ or so.
Now you should see how long your device was awake and what caused this.
Hi guys! Thanks for your help here.
I have found out now that the battery is definitely faulty as it went dead last night and I tried charging for 2 hours and it still won't turn on.
I am sending it back for a replacement.
Again thanks for your help

No problem. At least you know the cause. Personally I can't recall a bad battery on a new tablet, but I would think it's possible as many tabs as are sold. Sucks you got one though.
I've had a stock s4 battery for a while and recently its been draining pretty fast. I've changed roms many times but the end result is always still the same bad battery life. At this point, I'm wondering if my battery is just degraded. I drain 10 percent from 2 hours idle . Also, wakelock detector isn't detecting anything unusual.
Does anyone have experience with a degraded/bad battery? Besides a bad battery life, is there any other defining feature.

check to see if the battery is physically swollen; somewhat common problem for the s4. the swelling may only be slight, but if you're able to spin it on a flat surface, you should replace it.
Mine has been that bad since out of the box. Worst performing battery out of any Android I've ever owned. It's my only gripe about the phone except for the locked bootloader. Like you, I've tried virtually every ROM out there and its always the same issue. I was hoping a blacked out ROM would help but it hasn't really.
I ordered a zerolemon 3000 mah battery to replace the stock one. Hopefully this will fix any battery issues.

Interesting. Would you mind posting your experience back here once you try it out for a few days? I suspect you will need to calibrate it when you first install it too.
