Unfortunately this is not a thread providing the community a taste of the hot product from CM team.
This thread is to discuss why CM team don't want to 'play' with the xda community here that is eager to follow their guides and put Android on their TouchPads?
I expected much more involvement here. with lot's of technical discussions. Like in other forums of xda.
There was the crazy bounty period which was meant to cause this forum to be very lively but instead it introduced rivalry and now a 'cold war' between devs. Every attempt to get in on the dev just gets treated like spying.
They don't want to release a 60% done alpha to the community I'm guessing. Why are you posting a question in the development forum?
Reading is hard!!!!

This is the state of XDA nowadays.
I have a theory... back many years ago, when devices were more expensive (Palm Treo 650, anyone?), it was an "older" crowd (people with jobs that paid for the gadgets) who were able to afford buying the latest mobile devices, and were a little more mature when it came to posting on XDA and other forums in general. Fast forward a few years, and now smartphones and tablets are pretty ubiquitous overall, and many of them are in the hands of teenagers. I'm no math/stats geek, but I'm sure there can be a correlation shown between the average age of your typical smartphone user going down over time, and a rise of stupidity (and lack of maturity) on technical/development forums such as this one.
Just look at these gems:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17889535&postcount=401
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17961879&postcount=423
Rod has the patience of a saint to have to put up with The Stupid oozing out of that thread.
In fact, that's kind of my point/response to the OP. Can you really blame developers/dev teams for wanting to stay away from XDA? Just look at what people like Rod (rwhitby) have to deal with in those quoted posts above. I have a Vibrant, and you should see how bad the Vibrant subforum is with repeated quesions, lack of people searching first before posting, and basically wanting to have their hands held to do something instead of searching through a thread first, or even doing a simple google search. This isn't how the community used to be. But it's the state of XDA now, sadly. So don't blame CM for not wanting to get XDA involved in their alpha stuff. At this point, it would only hinder their development on the port.
My $0.02's worth and sole opinion.
I agree and I read that thread when I want a good laugh.....fing n00bs
I used to use "Let Me Google That For You" to illustrate how easy it is to find answers with just a SMIDGEN of intelligence. But I kept getting spanked by mods for snarkiness.
Here is my take on what they are really saying:
"I see all the stickys and warnings to search before asking, but I am too lazy and it just takes too much time and basic sense to find the answer.
So what I will do is say that I am in a hurry and apologize for asking my stupid question and they will answer it and all will be well."
Just let it die lol.....

a good trick when searching is typing “cyanogenmod in touchpad site:forums.xda-developers.com” and it'll show you every thread in the website that contains those words... I know forum searching sucks big time, specially when you can't search using small words but this is the best way to search

Since this will be Android 2.3 (I think), will we be able to download the tablet apps, e.g. Facebook or Angry Birds HD (even though there is a webOS version), or will we be stuck with the phone versions stretched out?

Honeycomb specific version (That leverage the fragments API) will not be accessible.
However, many (most?) apps are written to leverage the screen real estate avail.
I have a Viewsonic G-Tablet currently running a slightly modified CM7 and most of the games/apps look perfect on it. Not stretched out, etc. You will of course have exceptions, but for the most part my G-tab works flawlessly.

The actual facebook app doesn't work well on my Transformer. It just stretches out and looks like crap. I use Friendcaster and it looks great and works really well too. Friend Me is another one that looks good on tablets as well.

I think for DEVS it's always far more interesting to push the technology as hard and far as they can, but in terms of general interest, people are asking mostly about how they can extend the battery life of their phones. If you could somehow create the ultimate script/tweak-package for the Ace for improving battery life, then you could probably get a large amount of donations - especially from the vast amount of people who have purchased an Ace as their first ever Smartphone and don't know what to expect from its battery life.
Obviously longer term, it will be about continuing to open up the phone to as much customization as possible, and making that process as easy as possible for the end user. That way people who are committed to the phone for the next 12-24 months will have something that can, relatively speaking, keep up with the general progression in smartphone technology and not leave the phone completely behind.
K! We will surely start working on it! But l8r! Because ryt now our members are working on MIUY ROM! Which will give you the bst MIUI experience for ACE!

I hope that's not true. There's no other way for them to get bug reports, or see what "features" are annoying users more than helping them.
Bugs in final firmware slipped through internal testing or else they wouldn't exist, and there's no bug tracking service unlike Android itself: you can only contact customer service (correct me if I'm wrong). They'd be very foolish not to read the boards, especially XDA.
However, the continuing presence of the cell standby bug is making me think they are perhaps just very foolish. The fix is so simple, I cannot imagine how they could have seen it and then still not implemented it.
I believe all manufacture do reading it, who knows some Dev work with them right.
If they are actually reading these stuff....then I just wanna tell them to make a replacement for the recent apps button....I mean long pressing the home button for recent apps sucks.....make a replacement plz.....we can do a bit faster multitasking with it...

ya, atleast they should stick their eyes to both the development sections. Im pretty sure most of the samsung rom developers will have their eyes on these forums especially xda, but implementing the idea they get from here and getting the approval for it is questionable
They certainly will have noticed the cm10 thread xd and surely it will have influence on their early release date even be earlier than expected

Well reading the boards is one thing, but actually taking the comments for real is an entirely different matter. Not all the people online are honest for starters, and also don't forget phoney users who are actually plain old fashioned industrial competition.
One last thing coz I worked for a manufacturer once, is that they have a special department for watching that kinda stuff. Problem is if they listen to what these guys have to say coz most of the time they are much more busy doing research trying to stay ahead of the market rather than fix old dogs. And those geeks who know about XDA already know how to root the damn phone like myself and get the most out of it anyhow, so why bother. And for the other losers who don't know anything about Android, they seriously never notice the difference. Trust me... I worked for a manufacturer and I have heard the complaints myself. They are much more worried about getting their call logs back than by the bugs in the OS code !!

Try actually reading next time. Someone asked Eschelon if he was getting a Note 2. He responded with "no" but non-nonchalantly stated he'd be happy to dev if he ever got his hands on one, but he didn't anticipate it. That's it. He didn't make any false promises or even solicit this thread (I doubt if he even knows it exists).
And another thing: Why do you and your buddy Adrynalyne (who always seems to be sparring with some other dev team on a daily basis) always go after the Synergy guys? There's also a Beans donation thread here in the Note 2 section. Did you make a similar comment in that thread too? And Beans actually encouraged a donation thread, Eschelon didn't.
And yet here you are. Hypocrite.
Just because you've contributed to this community in the past does not give you authority to troll threads of devs you don't like while simultaneously giving others a pass.

I've never made a negative comment against synergy nor Eschelon, I don't even know who synergy nor Eschelon are. I am not a rom dev, nor rom user. I don't follow the rom scene dramas. My comments were for the person that started the thread, and still stand. It was not a troll thread.
Adryanline is just another developer, we have had many words before. We have not, and doubtfully ever would team up on anything. I do hold him in great respect because if his honesty and abilities.
I'm a hypocrite for what, I called out three threads for the same issue. I have never supported donation before work done. So you not know what the definition of hypocrite is?

This is no way to run a contribution thread to buy a device for a developer - plus you have to have permission from the developer to even start a donation thread.
Is it just me, or has there been a decline in the quality of android users since the original G1?
It seems that people are interested in having a custom rom, yet are not interested in doing any of the leg work involved, nor are they interested in understand what rooting, s-off, bootloaders are, etc..
Is this just a side effect of android being more mainstream? Is this what happens when Android starts stealing away Iphone users?

I think it's because it's becoming more mainstream. You saw the same thing with Ubuntu taking more space for PC. Linux used to be relatively niche, people who had a certain amount of knowledge would use it, but most casual users would stay away.
It's a bit of a shame for the repetitive questions and having to lead people by the hand, but that also means programmers (apps, roms, kernels, etc etc) will get more interested in Android as it becomes more popular and thus lucrative.
They're just people. Just like you.
The term "quality android user" is a joke and would only come from a place of arrogance. I'm sure whenever any of you "quality android users" try to get service from someone in an area you're not knowledgeable in you're just as annoyingly dense.

That's what happens when things go mainstream & become popular. But you shouldn't say that people are of less quality. In the real world, people work jobs which take all of their time away from them, have to travel long distances & many hours just to get to & from work, have families to feed & take care of, etc... Many people just plain & simply don't have time in their lives to sit at a computer & spend hours of time trying to learn certain things, which is why they ask for help with things that they don't know. Please keep these things in mind. If you are more knowledgeable than someone, you really should try to politely help them, as opposed to just calling them stupid & of lower quality. We were all there once, & we all walk different paths in life. Life is rough. Be kind & help others, as you'd want them to do for you.
If people don't have time to learn what they are doing then they shouldn't be flashing roms.

In my opinion people (Adverage Consumer) are getting these cheap android based Samsung/HTC/Motorola instead of higher quality phones that are actually close to the same price and being influenced by us (Devolper/Modder) and have basically made them able to do it easy.

It is true that due to the android os being popular or based in everything it has caused the lazy noobs to increase(quick fixers, complainers, etc) and i guess that is the effect of ppl who just want to show off what they can do with their device other than to assist to build the community up.
I currently obtain and use an Inspire 4G for 2yrs now, but the desire is to contribute as much as i can when i purchase a new device(more mobile apps and even rom development / collabs).
In theory, the more people that join in, the more roms should be developed, tested, and released
