[Help] Dev's with Gallery knowledge - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I hope this isnt in the wrong place. Long story short, One+ One system leaked, Camera and Gallery are awesome, they work on other Rom's.
Problem is in the Gallery app, pictures taken in Portrait mode are displayed in Landscape. Is this just the way its gonna be or can the app be modified to be fixed? Donation will be given if it can be.

i used to have the proper camera software installed on my se 2.02 device, which didn't go boo when taking a picture in landscape mode...
but my device crashed and i lost everything,
now i've tried to find the right software again but somehow i can't find it, tried several different cabs from chinese to english but nothign worked.
maybe somebody could give me a hand there.
thanks in advance.
well i've found it, after hours of struggling.
this version is compatible with se, maybe it'll save somebodys time.

all of the camera software supports landscape even the older versions that came with Wm2003 instead of SE, just hit the contacts button to go from portrait to landscape while in the camera app. Has always worked good on mine.
That's right...just press the contact button and you have them all.

Landscape Mode for the Camera in XDA II
I like solutions that are simple, and you couldn't get much simpler than mine to produce a photo in Landscape!
First, get into the camera mode. Then hold the XDA II in front of you, so you can see the camera view on the screen. Then (the really clever bit!) rotate your wrist through 90° and, voila, the image is now in Landscape.
Works for me!
yeah, krueger ;P well it was up again but it went down 2 days ago...
about the camera it's not about "a camera that supports landscape function" it's about "a camera that works properly when using wm2003 se in rotated mode"

[DEV REQ] High Res Gallery

Ive always noticed that when I take a pic, and then look at it in gallery, I never get the pic I just took, ie its like a thumbnail of it. I often take a quick snap of writing or lists etc, but this low res version sometimes makes it very hard to see.
I also remember when I was trying to show off the screen, id take a 4mb nat geo pic, try and zoom in, and it looked like ****e really quickly because it was taking a thumbnail.
Do you think its possible with the resources available our phones would smoothly be able to handle the high res [or if not a higher res] version of the gallary?

I think if you wait long enough it renders the higher res thumbnail but it takes awhile. I could be wrong though, haven't really gone into the gallery much.

For the sake of the thread, is there anyway to prioritize this action or make it run in the background so the higher resolution images are preloaded to avoid having to wait?

The new Gallery3D app came with froyo increased the res but it is still not full as the original pic.
Those whose says it is, please download the photos to your computer and compare.

Hence my unableness to read text ive taken a picture of, when the actual pic is perfectly fine. I dont might having to toggle super high res mode, or waiting longer etc, I just want to be able to zoom in with original quality.
Not sure if it views it in hi-res but I have noticed that Astro views it a bit better and loads it faster as well. Perhaps give it a try and see if it help at all..
B&B Multi Touch Gallery was working for me to view full resolution, but I feel like it's been abandoned and probably isn't worth buying. Really wish the built in gallery could get it's **** together. Wish they had an options menu with the ability to reduce visual effects to improve picture loading speed and quality.
Just got my N1.
Does it record in 720p or is that a feature only available through root?
I'm on FRF91, thanks!

I think you need to root and load a different ROM. Try CyanogenMod. Search is your friend!
At this second no N1 on Froyo records 720p, theres a bit of trouble porting it. But yes, you would have to root to get it when its release.
I too prefer the default gallery to get its **** together, as its the one which is always there, and the one linked to camera.

[Q] Photo's upside down on upload

One thing that annoys me with the Vibrant is if you take a picture in portrait or with with the phone upside down it appears right in the gallery but if I upload it to Facebook the orientation is wrong.
1. Anyone know if their is a fix for this?
2. Is their anyone that is interested in fixing this?
I am assuming you could fix this in the gallery.apk by making them appear like they really are, or fixing this in the camera.apk by making it auto-rotate the pictures correctly... Either fix would be fine for me...
This is an issue on ,my wife's vibrant running stock JI6 as well as every rom I have flashed, which is every rom Team Whiskey has built 2.1 or 2.2, currently nero ver 4.1.
Easiest thing to do is to rotate the picture.
Just click Menu>More>Rotate to the right.
It only takes a few seconds :]

My problem is that it shows right side up in the gallery, but if I upload it, it is wrong.
If I take a Bunch of pictures then upload them all later I don't know what is right or right is wrong.
My htc phones of the past didn't have this problem. It bugs me. it shouldn't be an issue.
Sent from my Vibrant running TW's latest rom, whatever that may be.

[Q] Camera Options?

Hey all... Was wondering if there was an options menu for the camera I was missing somehow. I thought the camera app was supposed to have a lot more options in it than I can find. Was looking for burst mode and some other options. I can't even seem to find the option for the Date/Time stamp. lol
Or... Is it the update to 2.3.4 that's supposed to give us that extra functionality?

When in camera mode - hit the "menu" soft button. It will bring up all the adjustments. Then - if you view the pic in the gallery - hit the magic wand button and there are a lot of post photo effects. Not bad for the stock app actually.
I still don't have the panorama, burst, or date and time stamp options. Am I just really missing it? lol

what do you mean by time stamp? it's embedded in the exif data... long touch on a picture in the gallery and check the details.

On my Hero there was an option to add a date/time stamp right to the picture itself so it was visible in the bottom right corner of any pictures that were taken.
Delete pic?
I couldn't find a way to delete a pic directly from the camera app. Does the function exist in the camer app or do I have to do it from gallery or file explorer?

Small image display when opening Sony Camera.app :(

Hello Good People,
Can someone please help with this odd issue. When opening the Sony Camera.app it displays a small view finder instead of full screen. I have tried clearing cache and fixing permission but no success so far.
Interestingly if I access the camera from the lock screen it appears in full screen.
Other third party camera apps work correctly too.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
I have had this problem before...very long ago. I can't remember what caused this.
Are you on stock rom or any sony based custom rom?

Thanks!

mmmm it brings back a slight memory that this is why I abandoned sony based roms because there was so many bugs especially this one.
And that I hated the sony ui. Now I miss the old sony ui. The silly piano lock screen..
Back then I flashed slimrom kitkat because this was the only aosp or cm based rom that didn't drain the battery when the screen was off.
http://slimroms.net/index.php/downloads/dlsearch/viewcategory/1243-togari
I probably didn't do anything to solve this problem because no one else had this issue when I brought it up.
Thanks SUPERUSER!
I totally understand about the bugs, it’s a trade off for sure. By chance could you recommend a "better" camera.app than the default one provided by Sony?
Thank you!

I tried most of the camera apps out there a month ago..most of them are filled with crap features, ads, a splash screen or welcome screen on start..why would I want that and other things that doesn't belong in the app.
Its a camera app not facebook or whatever random features included in it.
The few I found to be somewhat worth keeping are:
Camera FV-5 Good app. You can crash the app if you're doing heavy work or fast pressing or swiping in menus. But its not filled with any crap or unnecessary features that no one asked for unrelated to the app being a camera.
CameraMX <-- this one has a welcome screen...and other crap included so you dont get right in to the camera on launch. To get to the camera on launch: Press menu and tick "Open camera on start".
But the app has a Time lapse video mode so its why I kept it for when I might use this feature.
OpenCamera is my classic go to. Its a straight forward camera app with no crap or ads.
You might have heard of Manual Camera app but its far from every device that works with the app. And it has many bugs.
There are some other simple apps that has no wow factor like Moto Camera or Google Camera that works fine too I used the Google camera in the past because it does exactly what it suppose to. Take a picture.
SUPERUSER,
As always I am sending a shout out Thank You!
I appreciate you taking the time to respond in such detail and clarity. At the end of the day I just want KISS camera (keep it super simple) open app and it takes a photo, period.
Thank you dear friend
