Hey Guys,
Just got my new Xperia Z2 2 days ago, the phone looks nice. Compared to the Samsung Galaxy phones I had before (S4 & Note 2), the Z2 feels like a real phone especially with the glass frame.
The phone is fast with a nice camera, the only comment about it is "too much bezel" which I think SONY could've done a better job by "trimming" the huge bezel....
Today I unlocked the bootloader and was about to root the phone when all of a sudden the screen went black with no light at all
Tried to reset the phone, reboot....etc. nothing really worked, I did some search and found out that this is a common issue with the Xperia Z & Z1 as well and looks like Z2 is having the same issue..
Just had to take the phone back to the SONY store, they didn't have a replacement and they told me that If I needed a replacement, that'd be back order and I'd have to wait another month !!!
Also, they were hesitant about returning the phone and told me if I used it for over 30 min., then they can't return it and they'd have to sent it for repair....luckily I had used only 25 min. !!!
Just be aware of the issue. Also, does anyone know if the black screen issue is very common on the Xperia ?? I liked the phone and was thinking about buying another one.

hmmm, if i was you i would use the phone as it is and wait for some couple of months before rooting it since it is new on the market and issues will keep on going till bugs are sorted out and that rooting should be updated with new files and then after users review i think then you might just root it but for now there's too much bug even with its stock firmware its normal wait a bit Disable all apps that you don't use for now
Screen of death
I had a similar situation with my new Z2 although nothing to do with the bootloader, rooting the phone etc.
Basically screen went blank after using a magnetic charge adaptor. Anyways depends what country youre in/phone provider.
I got my phone via a plan and was well over 30 mins of use. My phone lasted about 1.5 weeks and my provider have a 30 day exchange policy if a fault is present.
My phone wouldn’t respond regardless of the power button and volume buttons same time. when on charge I got a flashing red light, not the constant orange charge light.
Anyways went to a shop and got a replacement on the spot.
I don’t know if its common with a Z2 as they are just too new yet. Overall im very happy with mine and suspect I just got a faulty phone, it happens.
Same here buddy! I tried the top three, xperia included. Xperia is good and I have no complaints.
Obsessed with rooting and romming since the android SGS years, I bought an Xperia Z2 also to stop my obsession lol!
After 15-AUG, I may root, if a root is available on locked bootloader. Lets wait for DoomLord to attack on the stock first.
Thanks guys,
Well, I don't consider any android phone to be really a phone without rooting...
BTW, Does anyone know a way to run rooted apps on non-rooted phones ??
Thanks again.... :good:
you cant run rooted apps without root :/
unless you mean something else

Hi everyone, i bought my Xperia mini pro 3 months ago brand new from an 02 shop and as of today (1st May 2012) the touchscreen has stopped working.
I have used pc companion to repair the phone but this has not worked, i have turned it off for 1 hour and then turned it back on again but this also did not work.
I can move the cursor around the screen using the keyboard but without the touchscreen it makes the phone to difficult to use.
I have searched the forum here for similar issues but i have not found a consistent reason for what has caused this or why it has happened.
I have contacted SE by email to ask them what can i do and while i am waiting i thought i would post here to see if this a very common thing
Does anyone know if this can be fixed without sending away for repair.
It is a stock phone with no mods or changes.
Many thanks
Kelly
Hmmmm...i am of the belief that your digitizer is dead..so you canot repair it yourself without payin'...if your warranty is voided for some reason i suggest buy one brand new from ebay and repair it yourself, otherelse send to sony....
Thank you for the reply.
is this a common issue with these type of phones.

For some reason I am reading quite a lot about dead touchscreens. Some other mini users got problem when installing custom stuff.

A friend said that as it was only 10 wks old that i should return it to the shop, i did that and they took the phone and sent it off for repair.
they said i should have it back in a few days.
My Xmini had the same problem too after installing a custom rom :/
So, a few weeks back my Mozart started presenting problems... In it's defence, i've had that device for approx. 2 years and if you see the state it is in right now, you'd be surprised it survived this long!
Now I love Windows Phone and my next device would have been Windows Phone 8 but alas, I need a stable phone with me always and thus can't rely on the Mozart in its current state. So I sold off my iPad 2 and went ahead and bought a HTC One X and initially loved it but grew to dislike it... mainly due to random crashes (probably a device manufacturing defect) but most importantly due to the poor battery life.
So I sold off the One X and purchased a iPhone 4S however after a few days of usage, some microphone issues emerged. I got it replaced and soon enough, the issues surfaced on the new device. Checked online and a huge number of users are apparently facing issues with iPhone 4s as well... so then returned that and got a iPhone 4...
But alas! Websites on Safari were a pain at times, cellular data would kill itself during a call though it didn't happen always, and some other stuff as well... So now i've sold it off and am in the market for a new phone.
Today i returned my cousin's HTC One X and got a Galaxy S3... have been testing it out and am loving it so far... Especially the battery! Charged it up to 67%... have had Exchange Sync (Push) turned on, two Gmail accounts on 15 minutes sync, Facebook and twitter push, and made at-least over a dozen calls some of them going over 10-15 minutes... and a game here or there plus an hour at the gym with continuous music playback and referring to a workout app... and in 3 hours time, it's battery has gone from 67% to 49%!!!
If it were my One X, it would have pretty much died by now or come close to it. Even the iPhone 4 didn't produce such good battery results for me - but close nonetheless.
So now i'm considering to the store tomorrow and purchasing a S3 for myself! Wanted to see if anyone here could provide any feedback on usage based on a couple of weeks or days of usage of the device? Battery life? any crashes? Anything else?
UPDATE
Forgot to ask another important question... Now forgive my ignorance, but I am kind of new to Android - although I did use XDA numerous times to flash my brother's X10 + Arc and Sis-in-law's HTC Chacha... when i purchased this phone today for my cousin, it was a packed box. On opening and starting it up, it asked for a PIN code to activate. Which i Imagine meant that it was carrier locked?
The shop owner disappeared for 10 minutes and returned back with the phone unlocked and ready to use. He said he got it unlocked by using a proper code and all... and to be on the safe side, as soon as i got home, i did a hard reset and it didn't lock out on me. However, I do notice "ClockworkMod" installed on the S3 and also the state of the device in settings is set to Modified. What does this mean? Any cause for concern?
Regards!

The shop owner probably rooted your device in order to unlock the phone (rooting voids your warranty), do you see a superuser app in the app drawer?
If so, install Triangle Away from the playstore or Chainfires thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1494114 and reset the flashcounter. Than go back to the shop and let him reflash the rom to restore warranty.

If its just warranty... then not worried about that. As i purchased this one for my cousin without the warranty - Rs. 5000 cheaper (approx. $50).
But thanks though, this is good to know... 'coz I was planning on purchasing mine with the warranty!
Battery life is a lot better than the one x..... the s3 should easily be able to get you through a day of heavy use and have juice to spare.

my Sony xperia z ultra goes berserk and haywire quite often........I guess the software is quite unstable ... Sometimes after opening the home page the phone strangely starts operating on its own.. The pages gets changing, sometimes the contacts gets clicked, phone calls get activated...once my phone was lying ideal and after i got a missed phone the phone automaticaly started went on a dial mode dialing the phone number from my call logs
Today suddenly the wifi got activated, the home page got rotating and kept changing....I mean the phone is lying in front of me and i am not even touching the phone and everything is happening on its own the phone going berserk......
Help .. has anybody else going through this same problem........
Today while i was browsing the twitter ...suddenly my twitter went overactive ...automatically getting clicked on send tweet tab and sending blank tweets....
Godd..........is it a ghostttttttttttt.... i am lost and pulling my hair.. never seen a phone behave like this in my 20 years of having a moble phone with me...
Note: If you initiate this process, you will lose all the data stored in your phone’s memory. All settings within the apps will be lost. You will only retain the data on your card; like your music, photos and videos.
1. From your Home screen, select ‘Apps’
2. Select ‘Settings’
3. Tap ‘Backup & Reset’
4. Now, hit ‘Factory Data Reset’
5. Tap ‘Reset Phone’
6. Then hit ‘Erase Everything’
Once this process is completed, your Sony Xperia Z Ultra will reboot itself. That’s it, most smartphones abnormities are solved by simply performing a hard rest.
Model?
Firmware build please?
-Latest is 14.1.B.1.526. (if your is lower, update it)
-Download Sony update service
-Follow instruction.
its firmware ending with 510 .. no we havent got the new update of 526 in our country.... as jutley said will try doing a hard reset.. hope it works..
Even with the latest firm the phone its far away from the stability in the 475 firm. In my case it must be with the backlight optimization on if not acts funny (not only for the booting...)

Dirty screen? have it if i touch my screen with water on my hands or flour. It stick to the protection and do like if I was touching the screen again and again until I clean it ^^
If I have to pick which Z Ultra C6802 firmware is the most stable, I will definitely go for the .475 firmware, without any doubt.
In all honesty, with the latest firmware updates, it feels more like a downgrade to me. With Optimised backlight always on, the colors of the display looks dull & faded.
If you untick Optimised backlight & restart your phone, then it will go haywire to the point that you wish you've never purchase it in the first place.
Sony has taken a step forward & 2 steps back with their latest firmware updates - Tell me What's the point of rolling out enhancements & new updates, at the expense of firmware stability?

There must be dirt or water in the screen due to sweaty hands on you r screen causing this. I had the same pribelm. Lock the phone and wipe the screen with a neat cloth or paper. It will be gone.

Tried everything damn thing you all guys asked me do.. even resetting it twice... nothing seems to work...... finally called the sony service center guys... well they admitted its a software issue and needs to be updated and quite strangely its a an update which they claim can be done only in the serivce center and not in my home thru pc companion nor over the air thru from my mobile....
Its sound quite strange to me and hearing for the first time about a software update which sony service center provides exclusively provides and which is no available to the end user..
Anyways i am quite exacerbated by the whole thing and finally decided to go back to my note 2 which i have still retained..
Sorry Xperia guys ...do u have think i have made a mistake by changing over to z ultra from note 2 .. or its a just a one of thing.... which should get settled by this sony service center upgrade...
sending it tomorrow, will keep you guys posted.........if it doesnt work even after this i guess i need to pop of my xperia

my mobile just got returned from service center with the new firmware installed.... now to see if the bugs have dissappeared..
never imagined sony can release just a major high end phone with so much of bugs in it.
This is your bad luck. I never had any problems with Zu, now I,m on third firmware, I have changed the country code, rooted etc. And never had any problems with the phone. Maybe your problem is deeper than o simple firmware install, that is why they asked to send the phone to service. I guess it's just bad luck

Because it's already perfect.
Nah, i don't know. Maybe the updates are location based, i.e the models that got sold in Asia have some problems, and Sony is trying to fix them, and the "western" versions are from a newer batch and don't have these problems. Maybe Sony noticed something funky from the first batch, but then it was too late, so they went like "**** **** ****! Execute them updates!", and meanwhile in peaceful Europe - nothing. We got the good ones.
This is of course completely wrong and i have no idea what i'm talking about, but it could be. Could. But i doubt it. Yes. I doubt it. I'll stop now. Soon. OK, now.
usually, Restore factory setting can solve it

Hey folks,
I've been having few issues with my phone since i bought it brand new the day it released in Germany (I am not german however, haha) - sometimes it would be slow, it would overheat and apps would be crashing because of that.
In november last year, I decided to try and solve that headache (honestly not worthy of the premium price I paid for it when it was new) by unlocking the bootloader and flashing a different kernel (not sure which one now). All seemed well for a few days, but them the fingerprint scanner stopped working (hardware not found), camera would freeze the phone for about a minute before restarting the whole UI, the battery would drain at a stupidly high rate (1 hour screen on time would leave me with 50 % battery in the afternoon, and I am not even doing anything system heavy) and the bluetooth was as buggy as before (the notorious terrible range of it). :crying:
So i figured the kernel was at fault and decided to flash stock firmware from Sony. I tried 3 different stock firmwares and oh my god, It's still there. I think unlocking the bootloader has inflicted all this. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I could do to get rid of atleast the fingerprint and camera problems? I am almost certain I will replace the phone soon for something else, but for the sake of trying to fix what was wrong from the factory and for the fact I might want to sell the phone, I want to make it work. I don't think returning it to the store for a replacement would work, since I managed to crack the back glass at one point last year and they'll just refuse it for mechanical damage ...
Thanks for any suggestions. Phone's not rooted, I could not figure out a reasonable way on how to do it, I am not very skilled in this regard, even though I had rooted my 2 previous Nexus phones (speaking of which, I miss my Nexus 4, but no 4G and bad battery made me change to Sony).
Aaaaanyway, I updated to 7.0 Nougat from one of our nation's carriers and so far so good. Will keep you posted, especially if things go south again. :cyclops:
Hi all,
Received my 1 iii yesterday, spent several hours setting it up, tweaking, testing, transferring files--and love it. Been an LG V-series user for the last six years, but with LG bowing out and having moved toward radiused corners, rounded glass, notches, etc. anyway--I'm very glad Sony is still out there making sane, non-compromised phones with basic features like microSD, no hole punch, and headphone jacks that are now treated as "niche" or "enthusiast".
BUT, unfortunately, having a very odd problem, and can't find any examples of anyone else having the issue... but it basically makes the phone unusable.
Literally any time the screen turns off--whether via pressing the power button, or via an inactiivty screen time out--the phone either shuts down, or restarts.
I've done a factory reset several times, tested it with fully restored apps/settings/personal data/etc., and totally un-restored, makes no difference--the issue always happens. So it's not the fault of any setting I altered, app I installed or disabled, etc.
I remember the first time I booted up the phone--but none of the factory reset times since then--that it said something about some setting being on to prevent battery wear from the phone being accidentally turned on during shipping. So maybe there's some bizarre setting somewhere that auto-shuts-down the phone when the screen turns off? Otherwise I'm at a total loss...
Thanks in advance for any help!!
Here is one of two reviews from Amazon about this phone:
"Got in the infinity reboot issue right out of the box...a $1200+ phone, very disappointed .
Got it today on the release. Then start setup and update. Not even until all set up finished, it restarted first time. Then again in just about 15mins. Overall been through restart 12 times. Try hard reset and all other methods, not helping. Return....."
So, unless you are the one who left this review...you are not alone! This type of stuff makes me so disappointed!
Sounds like the reviewer on Amazon was having a different problem. Mine stays on perfectly fine as long as one is interacting with it--only shuts down/restarts if the screen turns off.
Given the variety of software states in which the problem occurs--vlank setup, full set-up, safe mode--seems like a rare hardware issue. As long as it can be replaced with a correctly functioning unit quickly, it's still the phone I want...
If not, I guess I ride out my LG V50 till it dies, and then quit using smart phones...
Having to ship it in for warranty repair. Seems like almost certainly a hardware problem--sounds like I "won" the lemon lottery. A bummer, but not an indictment of the phone generally.
But I'm still really digging the phone--when it works. Did a video A/B with my LG V50, and while it didn't strike me as miles better--it definitely was when full-screen. Not having to look at rounded corners and a notch is worth a lot to me. With font and display set to smallest settings, *love* the look and roominess of the screen.
I agree with not wanting notches, or punch holes...this is why I am interested in this phone...PLUS I truly miss having a notification LED. However, so far the reviews from end users/owners...not the "pro" reviewers on YouTube..is leaning towards the negative! My last three phones have been from OnePlus. Currently on the 8T. I know many have started to slam OnePlus for their practice of late patches and higher prices...but I have not had even ONE problem with any of the OnePlus phones I've had! They just work. I've had the 6, 7-Pro, and now the 8T. There's nothing out there that even interests me any longer that doesn't overheat, or freeze, or have unnecessary dedicated assistant buttons??? Disgusted with them all. I just might have to take a harder look at Apple!!!!
Outside of what appears to be a truly random and uncommon hardware issue that's affecting mine per this thread--I actually really loved the 1 mk iii so far.
I haven't had overheating issues, camera seemed excellent, loved the hardware build quality, *LOVE* having a proper screen again (including no notches, aspect ratio, and tons of room w/ fonts and appearance set to smallest). I will never buy a phone that doesn't have microSD support, and access on this phone is awesome (no tool needed).
I wouldn't be too quick to write it off--especially not for the likes of Apple, who provide a hugely compromised, feature-removing, closed-ecosystem product at an inflated price for what you get.
Keep in mind--it's the internet, so you're going to far disproportionatly have people needing to discuss problems. Folks for whom nothing goes wrong--for any product--won't tend to seek out places like this to say so. So I wouldn't let a really small sample of issues unduly color your view...
Hi I have the exact same issue. Received mine on the 24th and transferred everything over from Oppo find X2 pro. Thought it was me at first when trying to wake but it rebooted. All fine until used in car QI base. After 20 minute drive picked it up and tried to wake only for the same thing to happen. Did this several times yesterday and this morning both on and off charge and while cool to touch. Very disappointing as expected more for something that cost nearly £1200! Like the phone a lot and prefer it over the Oppo but cannot find a way around this. A new 256k micro SD card also being used so have tried without this, without the EE sim and factory reset but still it happens. It's unusable as is so will have to be replaced, unless any suggestions?
Have had a few good Android phones from Huawei P20 pro, Mate 20X to current Oppo in recent times but never had an issue like this.
Having to swap back to the Oppo is very time consuming and exasperating!
Shame as this is a stunningly good phone.

Forgot to say there are others on here with similar issue, under random reboot thread.
After sending in for "repair" and receiving it back with no improvement (but "repaired"), Sony has finally agreed I'm due a replacement unit. Have shipped my first unit off, due to arrive to them next Wednesday. Will hopefully receive a properly-functioning replacement soon thereafter... Agree that, if the phone didn't have this bizarre issue, it would be great--very close to what I want in a phone (versus the myriad options out there that don't offer what I want, and insist on absurd design choices I detest).
So, we'll see. Certainly frustrating to have an issue like this on a phone that costs more than plenty of computers...
(To be clear, I had the issue literally every time, from the beginning, regardless of what I had/hadn't set up, installed, sim card/no sim card, micro SD/no micro SD, etc.).
I have Xperia™1 III but the phone is really stable for me, no random reboot. I have only heating issue. Xperia™ XZ2 Premium hasn't heat like this phone. My phone is Hong Kong device
Most likely not what caused your issue...but...it is NOT a good idea to allow any backup to install all your previous apps from an "old" phone to a new one. I know it can be a major pain and very time consuming to install everything from scratch when setting up a new phone...however...when you allow a backup to flow freely onto a new phone you are allowing all the junk to come back also! It's up to you, but I always install everything from scratch and it may not be related but...I have owned many, many phones and NEVER had all the problems that so many have all across the board. Am I just lucky, or is it because I have so much experience with computers and know how to set things up properly? YMMV

I think you have been lucky
Like you I have never had a problem and been in IT since the early 80's but this isn't something that's has been moved over. Sadly, the phone behaves the same wether out of the box or fully migrated. In the PC world I saw something similar with overheating and poorly cooled AMD processors in the 90's and am wondering if this is a heat related component batch issue?
Sony need to get a grip on this sharpish or they will be looking at refunds, which is never good.
The reboots are caused by the fingerprint reader. My new phone would bootloop while fast charging if my one and only configuration after a factory reset was setting a fingerprint.
DO NOT SEND IT IN FOR A WARRANTY REPAIR - - IT WILL GET WORSE
Get a refund.
First, Sony sent it to SBE with FedEx Ground, which currently takes about 2 weeks.
Second, SBE returned it bricked and voided my warranty. They said I flashed it but I had sent it in new and unmodified. I didn't even think they returned my own phone back because it had a UK/EU label and destroyed firmware. Sony Support would no longer help me because I was no longer a customer. SBE insisted I was a firmware flasher that deserved nothing. I ran EMMA and it showed my phone IMEI, locked bootloader, and stock firmware.
I finally found somebody on Sony Support who would give me an RMA. Maybe it was their mistake, but I wasted no time shipping it back. I'm doing a credit card charge reversal if I get any more crap from Sony/SBE.
I have spoken to Sony UK tech support and they have confirmed there is a reboot issue with some1iii's. Apparently, second line technical support have identified the issue (software) and there will be a revision released to cure this. When pressed, they couldn't give me a date for this and were a little vague. I was advised to return to my supplier for a refund.
Not good on a phone costing £1200 and surprised they haven't got their act together more quickly. They seem to be struggling getting phones shipped presently and my supplier has confirmed a 14 day wait if I want to re-order. I don't know if this is just poor advanced planning by Sony UK or if this is a Sony global problem trying to get hold of the components for manufacture.
Despite all the issues, this phone still ticks all the boxes for me so have decided to wait for the dust to settle!
Good to know there's some awareness now on Sony's part of this issue, and a plan yo resolve it via software (?). If the second unit I get has the same issue, I guess I'll wait a bit for that aoftware resolution--but deeply hoping I won't have the issue again.
I will say, I believe I tested not registering any fingerprints on at least one of the numerous factory resets I tried, and I believe the issue still occurred--had seen threads of similar issues stemming from the fingerprint reader on other manufacturer's phones, so tried to rule it out...
The original phone I got back from SBE wasn't bricked, it just wasn't in any way improved. Fortunately Sony didn't make any weird claims that I'd done anything wrong (I wouldn't know how to mess with "rooting" or whatever--no interest/need to). It was delivered to Sonyin San Diego by FedEx today--so hoping my replacement unit ships in the next day or two...

Agreed. With LG gone, I really want the Xperia 1 iii to pan out--only phone that has microSD, no notches/currves/radiused corners, a hogh-res screen, and a headphone jack. If I can't get one to work properly, I'll probably just buy another LG V50, second-hand.
