battery charging really slow - HTC Rezound

Hi, my rezound has since last night been charging really really slowly. It usually chargea at a normAL pace for me which would be like going from 58% to 77% in 3 to 4 hours. But since last night its barely moving up and going down faster.
Does anyone what the problem is and if there's a solution?
I have my rezound on stock ics non-rooted.

First off, 58% to 77% in 3-4 hours is terrible... you should be able to fully charge from 15%-100% in 4 hours (or really close to 100%).
You could have one or more of a handful problems here...
1) Your charging source is putting out less than 1A (1000mA)
2) Your USB cable is bad
3) Your charging port is bad
4) You have an app that is seriously sucking the battery to the point it is draining at a higher rate than your charger can output
5) You have a defective batter
I would install GSAM or BetterBatteryStats for more info on the charging current (1000mA at the charger usually equates to 500ma-650ma at the battery) and any apps which are draining the battery quickly.
I would try another known good microUSB cable and charger, most from newer smartphones will work, you don't have to have an HTC charger (I use one from a Samsung, LG, Pantech, and Motorolas all the time, as long as they output 1000mA or higher)
Replace the battery, especially if you haven't done so in a long time... typically the battery should be replaced every 12-24 months, so if you have never done that you should.
If all that fails, then it is probably the USB port or the phone itself.

Can someone please test the GS2 charge time?

Hi guys
I'm an iphone 3gs owner at the mo but my contract is up in a week and after doing A LOT of research over the past 3 weeks, i was pretty much decided that the GS2 was gonna be my next phone.
Then i foolishly visited the xda forums! lol (in fairness, it probably still will be my next phone).
But seriously though, setting aside the various issues some people are clearly having (reboots, battery drain, etc) what shocked me the most was hearing about the low-powered charging mechanism (apologies if i've gotten this slightly wrong).
I've heard that it only charges at ~650mah, but that the phone can easily surpass this under load (~850mah?), meaning that you could be charging the phone at the same time as using it, only to find the battery going DOWN. Can someone confirm if this is true? If it is, then i'm gobsmacked that Samsung could make such a c0ck-up. Imagine if you're using the GPS (a real battery hog) while driving (and plugged-in to the ciggy lighter) only to find that the battery dies before you get to your destination! lol. I've heard about the heat this puppy produces, i wonder did they limit the juice to stop it from burning a hole through the floor
Even though i'm bored to t1ts with my iphone (and i hate apple), what i love about it is that when i don't actually use the phone for extended periods of the day (which is quite often, due to work) it still retains it's charge really well (i get insanely good battery life). I would be really annoyed if i found the GS2 battery dropping any more than, say, 30% over the course of a busy working day (say 9am to 7pm) with virtually no use.
So, to finally get to my point! My iphone charges REALLY fast. I'm worried that it will take a stupidly long time to fully charge the GS2. Can some kind person please do an experiment for me, and see how long it takes theirs to fully charge (from fully dead to 100%) with the screen off and the phone not doing anything major in the background?
Also, it would be good to know how this compares to the GS2's competitors.
Sorry for the long post guys!
my phone is at 33% at 8:08
Will let you know how I get on. I have it on charge now
I think mine takes around 3 hours from empty using samsungs supplied charger but I will try to do a test for a more accurate time. How does this compare to the iphone?
Yep mine takes about 3 hours as well from empty to about 90% using the wall charger, then it goes on trickle charge the rest of the way. This is on standby as well.
Yepp takpes about 3 hours to get fully charged. however, i've been using the phone as a wifi hotspot all the time and yes, it increases charging time but it doesn't really matter when it takes so long anyways

It takes almost 3.5-4 hours to charge it with stock charger from empty to full.
It takes a bit more than 5 hours to charge from empty full using USB charging in my laptop.
Found out the hard way:
Charging with original EU charger AND heavy use (downloading, Wifi tethering, map ops etc.) MADE it drain faster than charging.
Two nights before left it during night with orig. charger and made it in 8 hrs only to 84% while on.
With Hama 0,8 amps charger full in 2hrs from empty and stays full even with heavy work.
NO heat issue though !
Methinks the charger is crap

doesn't really matter which charger. got the nokia 1,2A charger and it takes nearly 3 hours as well to fully charge the battery.
I use my ipad charger with it and its definitely more like 2 hours not 3
My car usb adapter is 1amp and has no problem keeping it fully charged while using sygic satnav

Any idea what the max amps the phone can take? I've been looking around, seen chargers up to 2 amps, but don't want to ruin the phone...
Edit: Sorry, posted too soon. Just saw this thread, and the battery has is rated at 1000mA, so ya, don't use a 2 amp charger

if you look thru the battery driver source code, samsung capped the charging at 650 mA it seems. not sure why, other android phones use the full 1 amp.
so samsung either saw a heat problem and lowered it, or that's just the way they do their phones charging. who knows.

Wow, ok. As someone who uses 3G a lot when our internet connection goes down (all too often), I hope the charge will end up keeping up with the battery drain. Otherwise I'll be tempted to change that source and probably end up frying my phone (if it ever gets in stock :|)
Thanks for the info

[Q] Battery Charge time

Guys my SGS2 is taking around 4+ hrs to charge from around 5% left. Is this normal.?
Yep takes 4 hours here too
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
What's the rated output on the wall charger?
I think this is by design as the phone already gets extremely hot when pushing the CPU (gaming etc).
I believe this can eventually be changed with custom rom/kernel.

5v @ 0.7A, by the looks of it this is normal.
thanks for responce peps. Never had a phone that took so long to charge.! Normally about an hour which is why i thought i may have had a problem with the handset.!
S2 stock Optus KE2 with it remained turned on with wifi, email checking etc using Energizer XP8000 battery as power source for charge went from 24% reminaing to 100% charged in ~2hrs. S2 internally seems to limit it to <700mah charge rate.
Find a Iphone4 charger or something similar it will give you 5v @ 1.0A, charges quite a bit faster, I use that at work then the slow .7 at home.
my XP8000 charges at 1000mah but S2 will limit it to 700mah
I think you could charge the battery alone in a dock. There it should load with the full 5V and 1ah..

Anywhere you can back this up? I seem to have faster results using a 1.0 vs .7, showing that it is getting more power.
It's been mentioned a few times across various forums. But i'm just going by my experience.
It also takes me around 4 hours to fully charge from below 5% battery. However, if I turn the phone off whilst it charges, goes slightly quicker. Obviously.
Hi,
I think the recharging time is quiet normal for such a phone (and battery).
I had to charge the battery of a friend's phone these days with my notebook.
And it took some hours from 30%. (HTC DHD)
About the same for my SGSII.
I think thats normal.
what would we do without electricity?
Dead phone that is fully discharged battery phone off stock charger to 100%
sub 3 hours .
jje
Changed handset yesterday. today charged new phone from 5% and it took 3hrs 4mins. So it looks like i may have had either a dodgy charger or batt.
I am charging with supplied charger(5V / 0.7A) ...
During the charging I turn off my phone but the charging time is still 3-4h -.-

Extremely slow charging (12+ hours).

I recently upgraded to a Rezound before the family share data plans came around to keep my unlimited.
First thing I did when I got the phone was to install the latest ICS RUU, unlocked via htcdev, s-off and ra recovery. For the ROM I used business sense ics. Started on 5.4 and upgraded to 5.5. I'm using the stock kernel bundled with the ROM. It's running awesome. Only problem I have is the battery charging.
I have the OEM HTC 2750 ma extended 3.7v battery. The charging is extremely slow. It took the phone almost twelve hours to go from dead to "charged". I've read a few issues regarding this, but nothing that looks like it matches my issue.
Using battery monitor I checked the ma when charging and it seems to be charging at a slower pace than via even USB. It ranges anywhere from 175ma to 400ma with occasional jumps to 800ma and even the occasional dip into negative ma even with the charger connected. According to the app it seems to stall at 98% charged with a charge of 2692 mAH of 2720 mAh. I've tried the stock charger that came with it, an igo charger, an lg charger. Just about every charger I could think of. Even the 2.1 amp chargers.
Anyway, I'm at a loss. I love the phone, I just hate the fact that I have to basically be tethered to a charger for 12 hours to get a charge that only goes to 98%. Any ideas or explanations of to why this is happening. I checked the battery threads here, but like I said or doesn't really match my setup. I appreciate any input.

I know you have tried different wall plugs but have you tried different cables?
It is possible you might have got a lemon.
Yeah, I've tried a few different cables, even tried bump charging like I did with my old incredible. When you say lemon, do you mean the battery or the phone itself? everything is working so well except for the charging.
Sent from my MB865 using xda app-developers app
Does the normal battery charge at a normal milli amp rate or do they both charge slowly? Also, how hot is the phone when it is charging slowly? The phone might be getting too hot and slowing the charge down to reduce heat
Honestly, I haven't actually used the stock battery. I'm not at home now, but when I can I will switch batteries and let you know what happens.
The temp is usually in the low 90s when charging. It actually increases during use. Right now, discharging the temp is at 107 and seems to be climbing.

Try the stock battery. We need to narrow it down to a phone or battery problem.
install current widget
tell us what the mah charging rate
check ur cable might damage or fake
So I ran down my battery until the phone shut off today. While I was waiting I wiped the battery stats five times. I'm currently charging the phone now and it's charging much faster. The ma when charging now is up where it should be. Ranging anywhere from 500 when I'm using the phone to over 1000 when I leave the phone alone. I don't want to speak to soon but maybe everything worked itself out. I got about six hours of use out of the battery, and that was with the screen on over 90% of the time. Not bad. I'll report back after a few charge and discharge cycles.

Settings/Power/Battery Status. With the OEM charger and cable, it should say "Charging (AC)." If it says "Charging (USB)," there's a problem, with charger, cable, the jack on your phone, or the firmware you're running.

[Q] Slow Battery Charging with OEM Wall Charger? (Sprint)

Loving my Galaxy SIII so far, but I have one 'gripe'. Is it just me, or does the GSIII take a long time to charge fully using the included charger/cable? I only have limited experience with this, but this morning I ran it down to about 2%, then powered down and put it on the charger and after a couple hours it was just at 69%, which really surprised me. I expected it to be (nearly) full after a couple hours.
I'm coming from an (original) Evo, which was rooted running CM7 and it always charged quickly on any wall charger. Not sure if that was a 'feature' of the ROM, or that's just how the battery was?
Anyway, what have you noticed about how long it takes to charge your phone? Long time? About right? Anything I can do to speed the charging?
Thanks!

Yea, I fully charged it on Wednesday, and then powered on and activated it Thursday. That was the first time I fully discharged and charged. Could have something to do with it, you think?
I noticed that the OEM (charger it shipped with) also is a bit on the slow side, but sicne I typically am charging over night it doesn't bother me. I have many microUSB chargers but I haven't messed around with others yet.
Wow, I just used it for the first time last night and I thought it charged up pretty fast. And this was with me watching youtube videos and exploring the phone while it was on the charger.

The GS3 has a bigger battery than the og evo. I'm not sure how big it is but it is definitely smaller than the GS3. So maybe you're just used to the evo battery charge time.

That could be the case? I ran it down to 15% yesterday, turned it off, and let it charge for an hour a day it crept up to 58%. Disappointing, but it sounds like this is normal? At least it doesn't guzzle battery!

Time the Note II takes to recharge

How long should our Note II take to recharge from 0% to 100%? Problem with practically all Android phones is that it just takes way too long to recharge. Last night I plugged my Note at about 1AM, depleted all the way down. When I woke up at 7AM, it was still at 70%. Does that sound about right for everyone? I understand that we have a huge battery capacity but the limitation with the microUSB port is definitely there.
no something is not right...my device recharges in 2.5hrs from below 10% to 100%
You using an outlet or CPU?
if CPU, are you directly connecting to a USB port or a hub?
My cpu charges so slowly compared to an outlet.

I would turn the phone off, try dif outlet, try charging it, see if it is any better.
If no, probably something hardware related.
if yes, probably something you have installed then i would just restart from stock.
It takes me about 2-3 hours with the oem charger.

I've been having this problem too, and I can't really pin it down. I'm using the charger that comes with the S3,which is only rated at 1amp so I know that's the biggest factor. However, sometimes it charges to full in a few hours, other times after a night on the charger it will have only made it to 60% or so. The real stumper is that it only tends to drain about 1-2% an hour in deep sleep, so it's not like it's draining faster than the charger can keep up. It seems completely random. I'm ordering a 2amp charger to see if it helps, im sure it will, but I'm just confused by the random nature of this.
Yea something is definitely wrong. Mine charges in about 2.5 hours from near 0%. Try a different outlet

Yeah about 2-3 hours is my usual charge time from 20% to 0% range respectively.
I still can't help but feel that that is somehow slow though. Can't tell, it's been so long since I had a small battery I don't know what a fast charge is nowadays.
Going from zero is way different than going from 1% the battery tries to protect itself so it trickle charges for a while. Honestly going from 10-100 should not take more than three hours probably closer to two

not sure if this helps, but do you have light manager installed? I had an issue when I first downloaded it and set it up, that night when I went to charge it it would charge VERY SLOW...I finally isolated the issue to light manager....I uninstalled it and reinstalled and it has been fine ever since. The Note 2 for me now charges faster than any device I have ever had.

Hi,
This is what I have found. Sometimes when the microusb end is plugged into the phone that the phone charges at usb rate instead of ac which is wall outlet. I only have this problem with a standard usb cable in the car. Will change it soon but. What you can do after you plug in the microusb into the phone goto settings then battery and see how the phone sees the charging its getting. It will say either usb or ac. Ac is full charge rate usb is much slower since usb like off a pc or laptop has a lower output to your phone.
If you see it takes more than 3 hours to charge your phone and it says ac in settings then you definitely have a problem with either the charger, usb cable or phone.
Thanks,
Bryan
If you're using the cable and charger that came with the phone, you have a problem. Based on what you reported, I'd say you're using a 1A or less charger.
