Are you rooted or temp rooted? Or temp weaksauce rooted? I ran Into a similar issue on My m7. Being that I was using weaksauce method after the phone reboots itself, let it completely boot back up I had and wait for root to kick in again before performing the last cmd

Weaksauce, yeah. I thought it might be that but I've tried waiting until I know it is rooted again and I run into the same problem.

What is your recovery??
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using xda premium
Since your bootloader is unlocked all you need to do for rooting is install a Recovery (best done via fastboot) and then just flash in a Superuser package such as this: http://androidsu.com/superuser/
It's how I've rooted an HTC Amaze and a Rezound
if u haven't already get hansoons all in one tool kit for the amaze, to be sure your bootloader is unlocked when you boot into it at the top in red it will say "unlocked". Then follow the instructions above being flash recovery, then flash the zip after booting into the recovery you flash. I prefer 4ext.
I know but when i try and put a recovery while its in fastboot nothing happens at all..the CMD comes up and nothing happens..I attached photo
its as if the laptop doesnt notice the phone is connected
Sounds like you haven't installed the drivers to your laptop. follow hasoon2000's instructions 1-5 in the first window then you can use his tool to root your Amaze.
I do have the drivers installed.i just double checked too

Yes I go to where it says fastbootusb.... Which is where i should be yes?
When I type "adb devices" in cmd nothing shows up, isn't that a problem? Meaning it's not reading my phone?

Adb and fast boot are two different things since your on windows you need to drag the fast boot.exe into the cmd and type devices you will see your device then do the same and flash 4ext

Did u rename the amaze tool kit folder. If so, please make sure that the folder name does not have any space between the words.. i.e, instead of 'Amaze Toolkit' use 'Amaze_Toolkit'. The space in the folder name would break the execution of the script.

motochopper would work. I don't have time to write it up, but you could use revone to unlock/s-off then use motochopper to root. Once you have root you could use Rom Manager or Goo to install a recovery.

Hello,
I am fairly sure you need root to use revone to S-off you device.
If you are able to get you bootloader unlocked(this you need a computer, maybe a library or school). You can use an app(link below) to flash a custom recovery to your phone then flash a root tool zip(link below) and give yourself root. You just have to get your bootloader unlocked.
Flash image gui - To flash recovery

That's a negative ghostrider. You can revone a virgin phone. It's my root process so I don't have to HTCDev unlock.
1. revone
2. install recovery
3. profit

Hello,
I'm not too sure what kind of file it is, but it isn't an app. I would probably say it is some type of bin file(could be totally wrong). I think your best bet to get root is google revone then read about it.
If you don't own a computer your find a public computer you can get adb and fastboot working on and use revone to unlock your phone. Then use fastboot to install a new recovery.
After all that you can get root, but the bottom line is you need a computer with adb and fastboot.
Hope that helps.

You say you're in college!?! There should be computers on campus, at the library, or a friend even. Download the files you need onto your phone, take a data cable with you and bam. Should not take more that 10 min.

4.4.2 ota root

I could find no information on this sorry if its been brought up already. I have never rooted my DNA. I have all my other previous phones though. I am now running 4.4.2. So my phone is completely stock. How would I go about obtaining root and unlocking recovery.
They patched the rumrunner exploit so... You can try firewater but there is no guarantee anything will work.

Trying Firewater if it doesn't work could it harm my phone or if it doesn't work it just doesn't do anything?
Nope of it doesn't work your phone won't be touched. I don't think that one was blocked so it should work. The only way your phone can be harmed in the process is of you unplug it while the exploit is running. In simple terms once you start the exploit don't touch anything until it says complete.

did this work?? I need to know cuz im in the same boat
Just tried and i got a temp root, which allowed me to run firewater for S-Off on the 4.4.2 ota.
1.) Install the necessary drivers
2.) Install and gain temp root with weaksauce, from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2699089
3.) After obtaining Temp root (TuneInRadio will appear in your notification bar if its running) Run Firewater (normal, rooted device method) and your golden: http://firewater-soff.com/instructions/
Make sure to follow all the instructions for Weaksauce and Firewater.

It didn't have to have a pin/passcode/pattern. However, firewater didn't cause the phone to reboot at all, and neither did weaksauce temp root. So i wouldn't image it would be an issue anyway (but possibly). Just disable your lock before you run firewater.
Its time....
Thanks for the info, I think its time for me to root this phone now. I was nervous because I jumped the gun with KK and now I was looking all over to find out whats the best way with the new update. This is the only thread that even mentioned it, so hope this runs smoothly for me. I havent rooted a HTC phone since my Rezound! I hope I can shake the rust off myself and do it right the first time!

Rooting on lastest update 4.4.2

So with the new HTC sync Windows 8.1 recognize my phone while it is booted into android adb and fastboot. But once I boot into boot loader and try to run Firewater its a whole different story. The pc no longer recognizes the phone and firewater does not run at all. Any advice?
Update: also how do I disable the lock screen on android 4.4
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using XDA Free mobile app
If you can get your hands on a Windows 7 machine that's the best way to get your phone soff. I don't think anyone has really used Windows 8.1 as it and our DNA don't get along unless you do something with the drivers. I remember there was a thread talking about Windows 8 and the DNA a while ago. Try searching but I'm not sure if they ever solved it.
In terms of disabling the lock screen it's no longer an option in sense. However if you download the app called no lock in the app store it will get rid of your lock screen.
Hope this is somewhat helpful.

Firewater will not work without a root of some kind. I tried the temproot they provided and no luck, doesn't work. So untill we get a bootloader unlock/root method we won't know if firewater can successfully get us S-off.

The temp root doesn't really work anymore on Verizon devices.
You need to run weaksauce for temp root, then use Firewater.
I'm already s-off so I can't confirm if it works or not but it worked on the latest m7vzw update and m8vzw update.

Which Wifi Tether app were you trying? This one: https://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/ or another?? Because I'm not upgrading until I know there's one that works. I used Moonshine to gain S-Off and then rooted on 3.06 with TWRP.

Unable to S-OFF my VZW one max

I have read and re-read several posts and links to s-OFF the VZW one max running sense 5.5. But no luck I had no problems in the past with my Samsung devices but I seem to be missing something I have tried Forrester using weaksauce for temp root and HTC universal tool 1.2 but nothing works for me any help and guidance would be greatly appreciated I am apparently ignorant about HTC devices.

Sent from my HTC6435LVW using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
As long as you try weaksauce and firewater properly it should work. If not just try installing weaksauce to phone then try firewater. Make sure your adb is set up correctly. Are you unlocked boot already... Are you on a stock Rom. Keep at it
I have a boot loader locked phone big red won't allow HTC to unlock the boot loaders on their phones I have applied weaksauce all to my phone.but after Firewater reboots phone the phone either looses temp root or the connection with the computer and phone I have installed and 're installed the drivers many times the furthest I have gotten was firewater unpacking then failed
