Square trade warranty - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I bought a square trade warranty for this device as I imported it and figured I'd unlock the bootloader and wouldn't be able to get it fixed anyways since it's not sold in the United States... Anyways I plan on being it to square trade for repair because I'm having issues with the vibrate not always working which is annoying considering I spent about 700 dollars on the device and also the earpiece has terrible audio quality sometimes and sometimes it doesn't and my girlfriend has att and never has this issue so I'm thinking it's the phone... Has anyone ever dealt with square trade when it comes to imported devices and do you think they will fix it or reimburse me? I honestly want a reimbursement because I'm afraid if they fix it they will mess up the waterproof seal... Thanks

Tmo will only warranty replace your Vibrant with Cliq2, Defy or a cheap BB!?

I've been having problem with my mic on my Vibrant, so i called Tmobile to see if they would do anything about sending me a replacement Vibrant, I have a 2 year protection that I am paying $7/month. They told me that Vibrant isn't available anymore, neither is SGS 4G and my ONLY 3 options of replacement would be some crappy blackberry, Defy or Cliq 2.... I told the guy those are all down grades from what I have and that I didn't want any of those and he agreed with me...
Basically I got no where, spoke to the manager that told me the same thing, then I spoke with loyalty department (been with T-mobile for like 7 years) and the best they could offer was was $20 off HTC Amaze...
Anyone else think this is ridiculous and/or have any suggestions on what I should do? I don't think it makes sense that they should downgrade me... if anything if they don't have anything as good, then give me something better.
If anyone else ran into this please let me know what you guys did to get a replacement?
I would either call them back and try to get a galaxy s2 or call samsung directly and use their warranty. The tmobile version of the s2 is called the hercules I believe and samsungs direct warranty only lasts a year
Wow that sux

That's crap...let us know how you end up.
I also had a problem with my vibrant with the incoming calls. I called Tmobile to replace my phone with another vibrant under the warranty, instead, they gave me a Htc Sensation .
what?!
Thats ****ed up. I pay the $7 a month too and the first time it was giving me trouble they just sent me a new one and i had to return my defective unit. Thats all. If it ****s up again they better not ask me to downgrade
Try replacing mic I guess

That's exactly what i said! Guy told me to call Monday bc their inventory gets updated then. So I'm going to call them then, but that is still bs, i run 4 businesses, if my customer isn't happy i upgrade them or refund them, not charge them more or downgrade them... I don't understand how that even makes sense. I'm going to try calling them on Monday, but to the those of you guys that are paying for the warranty don't bother, apparently once they run out off the phone you have they might give you a Nokia flip phone if they don't have any more budget Android phones to give out.
I called Samsung but they only have the warranty for 1 year, and you have to send your phone in for 2 Weeks while they work on it. So i guess they want you to use the payphone while you wait..

Wow OP I've also been with tmo for 7years and also paying those ****s the 7 bucks a month too. I don't have any real issues with my vibrant other then well it being a vibrant, I'll be dam if they try to downgrade me to some crap ass phone call those tards back every day tell you get what you want man that sucks. Good luck ill call them and talk **** about me paying 7 bucks to get a downgraded phone tomorrow.

I would actually not mind having a defy, I am into a lot of extreme sports and it would be nice to have a tough smartphone. It would be nice to have a phone that I could keep in my pocket while I am commuting to school on mtb trails instead of in an otterbox in my backpack.
Does anyone know if light bleeding from behind the buttons onto the screen is a warranty issue? It has been happening ever since I got this replacement phone.
The DEFY is just slightly rugged. It's not full on military spec so a case is still recommended. The DEFY is not that bad of a phone though with excellent 3G reception. The CLIQ2 has problems, and a Blackberry.. oh lord. But you do have a Samsung Vibrant - a phone that is over a year old now. What do you expect? Most of the $7.99 is for insurance anyway not the warranty.
First thing I would do is cancel that $7 joke of an insurance policy. They tried that crap on me before with my Behold II and I called corporate and they replaced it with a Vibrant. Then I went online and cancelled $28 worth of insurance (4 phones). If you think about it, total up the insurance money you pay each year and that would be enough to cover at least two GalaxyS 2's ($84x7 years).
Just called them OP. Same story, I'm getting a call back on Wednesday to update my status regarding the Vibrant being in stock. They did however offer me the glaxy S 2 for 50%...$200 for an upgrade! I'm saving that for Nexus Galaxy.
All three of these choices are downgrades. I'm definitely canceling my insurance after this.

That's what I am going for, I'll just try to get them do give me 1/2 off the price of upgrade on Amaze or SGS 2, Ill just sell it and pick up a Nexus. Either they do that or give me something that isn't a downgrade! I'll settle for Sensation.

Well be it 1 year or older this makes no difference, when I got the warranty it was in case I needed to replace my phone it was going to be covered for 2 years with something equally as good, if they would have told me they would instead give me a flip phone I would have taken my chances... Defy is a POS, it has slow CPU, smaller screen, 2GB of memory, thinker, worse battery life... I don't think there is a single benefit to this phone except that it will work if I drop it in the toilet.
the battery life is not worse, it's much better, the CPU is not far off from the Vibrant and as far as I'm concerned stock vs stock the DEFY is a better more consistent performer. I would know, I had both. The GPS worked too. If you've never had one I can't even see how you would run off at the mouth about how much of a POS it is.
The age of the phone DOES matter. The value does not INCREASE on a phone. You can't expect to get a major upgrade just because they don't have any more of your phone. Get real. You don't pay *that* much for the extended warranty, and the warranty does not guarantee anything equal or better replacements. Read the fine print.

A few things don't make sense.
I'm assuming your Vibrant is out of the 1yr manufacturers warranty, and you are reffering to the $7 a month Assurion insurance.
If you are indeed out of your 1 yr warranty then T-Mobile has no obligation to even offer you anything, not even a downgrade.
Now, if you are trying to resolve the issue by using your Asurion insurance then you shouldn't even be dealing with T-Mobile. T-mobile has no clue what Asurians current inventory is. Assurion claims are done completely seperate from T-mobile. Assurion claims can be filed at the following link:

Maybe I'm missing something or not understanding. I think the above info I provided is correct but who knows maybe I'm wrong.

The warranty is actually split in 2 parts, one is the damage/stolen warranty that you would have to go through Assurion, the other is an extended warranty that extends the warranty an additional year past the manufacturers 1 year warranty. The idea is if your phone gets screwed up with the fault that isn't yours, Tmobile will replace it.

Thanks, usefil link. I didn't know you had the option to choose PHP Insurance alone for $4.79. That sounds better than the PHP bundle especially considering T-mobile isn't doing a warranty exchange with a comparable model. What do the terms and conditions say? I would read that in detail, if they have to give you a comparable model then I would fight it.
here is what the fine print says:
3. REPLACEMENT PRODUCTS.
If the identical Covered Product is no longer available, We will replace it with
a product of comparable functionality. In all cases, We will determine product
comparability including functionality at Our sole discretion. Technological
advances and product availability may result in a replacement product with a
lower selling price than the original product.
A replacement product may be either new or refurbished, at Our option. Nonoriginal manufacturer parts may be used in refurbished products.

I want them to tell me how Defy and Galaxy S have the same technological functionality...? besides making phone calls I think these 2 are pretty different...
Yea i just dropped my insurrance.....
My screen is shattered and they offered me the same crap.....ill buy another vibrant off craigslist and then when my contract is up.....ill go to sprint and not waiste my money again on the shotty insurrance

A Month Battle with AT&T and I WON!

RECENT EDIT TO EXPLAIN SITUATION:
LOL wow guys really?
I've been royally screwed by AT&T so many times, them overcharging me, accidentally adding services and removing services to my account, charging me for a replacement sim when my calls would drop and would still charge me every single time to swap out a sim. When I had mobile insurance added to my account, I lost a phone, paid the deductible and they STILL would send my "reconditioned" phones that have flaws, scratches, issues. Took multiple devices before I got a half decent working one. Assurion is a POS company, honestly. Those who are PMSing over my post, seriously? You've never in your entire life lied, or done something for your personal gain? Against an organization or group that gains and benefits more from you? I really hope that all of you who're preaching ethics to me, really do live a righteous, sin-free life on a regular basis.
When I traded the S4 for the HTC One I did not know it had issues or broken. If I had a perfect working phone why would I want to go through this hassle?
Also...I pay for mobile insurance, if I wanted to take them on a ride and screw them over I could have claimed my device lost or broken and asked for a replace for the deductible of $199. MANY colleagues and people I know have done this. I didnt go that route.
1. In the past when I traded phones on craigslist, friends, family, etc. ATT would give me a tough time about it, Idk if this happened to anyone else or just my bad luck. They would ask me 100s of questions about what, why, how etc. I did not feel like dealing with that. I didnt like the S4 and hated touchwiz.
2. I didnt steal from them or not pay for anything. One of their reps told me to keep the other refurbished model as a spare, I didnt suggest it or as for it. They messed up, so I guess they felt like making up for it.
3. Yes HTC would take 14 days to send me back my device I send to them, all the while I would be phoneless. Dealing with AT&T was the best way to ensure I'd atleast be able to make and take calls in the mean time while this situation got worked out.
4. The original iPhone 5 I paid for I bought without an upgrade and paid full price of $500+, so I'm pretty sure they made so much money off me lol.
5. The new tax of 60 something cents to each customers phone bill will more than pay for a measly half broken HTC One
6. I've been grandfathered into their Unlimited Data plan and when I used to go above 2 gb or 3gb they would restrict my speeds and Bottleneck me every single time
7. To the idiot that said mentality like this gets us into recession? Lol really? I pay for the service with money I work for and want a working device.
8. The reason I had to raise my voice and yell at the reps was because they refused to let me return the defective device and wanted me to just live with it or try a different phone instead. They refused to admit that AT&T and Assurion's quality control with their "refurbished"/"reconditioned"/"like new" devices have flaws and aren't tested out properly before shipping out to customers.
-----------------------EDIT END--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So I originally had an iPhone 5 when I decided I wanted to try something new. I fell in love with the HTC One after reading about it and playing with the store model, so sold my 5 for $500 unlocked and went to AT&T store and used my mom's upgrade and got the 32 GB One. But for some reason that did not satisfy me initially then I returned it and went to the Galaxy S4 and decided I was gonna stick with it, till the same old TouchWiz ruined the experience for me over time. Decided I wanted to go back to the HTC One because I missed the front facing speakers and blinkfeed SO MUCH. Plus Sense 5 felt a lot smoother and quicker. I was past my 14 days so traded this kid on craigslist for a 64 GB HTC One Silver. After going home I noticed dead pixels and screen discolorations on the One, I talked to AT&T and *****ed at them that the phone has issues, and dead pixels. They were skeptical as to how I went from the S4 to One again and I just told them I traded with my uncle or something. So they said they would send me a replacement warranty exchange right away.
So here it goes...
Device 1 they sent me had scratches all over the unit, non centered camera lens in the back and the vibrate rattled. So I called complained and then they sent me another one.
Device 2 had 4 dead pixels and 2 HUGE gaps. Called and yelled at them again and they said they would send me another device.
Device 3 would not charge past 85% and hold it for more than an hour. Called them and yelled at them and demanded that they fix my issue and send me a brand new device. All the while the lady that I was talking to accidentally put a request for a warranty exchange to be shipped out and she got a manager override and shipped out a brand new device to me.
Device 4 (New) & Device 5: The new unit had no vibration AT ALL, tried everything and every setting NOTHING. Device 5 was the used refurbished and was actually closer to perfect than the New in Box and Sealed device they sent me. I called and made a big fuss about the new one yet again and they said nothing could be done and I had to return both the devices and we could go from there and another new device being sent to me is out of the question. I argued some more and yelled some more before they said send back Device 4 and the manager told me to keep the Device 5 refurbished unit for now.
Device 6: I had to wait a week till they received Device 4/"New" unit before I called them and spent an hour on the phone arguing with them. So turns out they sent me out another brand new device and they're letting me keep the Device 5 refurbished unit thats working well. I asked what to do with the extra phone and their manager said "use it as an extra MP3 Player or camera..."
LOL so I'm giving one of the phones to my dad and keeping the other. Took a month but I got the better end of the deal no?

You seem not to understand that the Corporation NEVER, gets screwed. When AT&T does its audit at the end of the year they will just determine that they have to make people pay more.... Like by not honoring 18 month upgrade cycles any longer, next they will add another hundred bucks to premium devices on contract like Verizon. This stuff only screws us in the end.... You should have taken this up with HTC.

Personally why do we give a F about a billion dollar company like AT&T?
I personally screw them by getting the HTC One on a subside price and then porting out without getting ETF. Now that's a whole different story.

I find this whole thing odd. I bought an HTC One locally, it was only 3 days out from the purchase date. The camera wouldn't focus at all. I took it to a retail store, they wanted a receipt from where it was purchased, no go. I went to the service center, they said they can exchange it when the 14 days are up. I called up 611, said I bought it locally from a 3rd party, and that the camera was broken. They checked the notes from the service center who verified the problem. They sent me out a new device, not a refurb, without any hassle, even gave me priority shipping for free.
AT&T is getting another $75 over the course of my 5 two year contracts with that new admin fee. They have also pushed upgrades from 18mo to 24mo in the last couple years, which means I pay way more than buying the phone outright. I have no problem with what the OP did, if you are getting fu**ed in the ass, at least fight it, don't sit there and take it and buy into the fear of more fees, they are coming regardless.

He didn't cheat them. The phone has a warranty on it for the first year. Doesn't matter if you are the original purchaser or you bought it used. Lay off the op.

Any warranty options on a used One?

Hello xda. A few weeks ago I sold my S3 for $200 and purchased a used silver AT&T HTC one for $450 from an electronics reseller here in OKC, Cdr electronics. I'm outside of my upgrade window and really wanted the One so i figured this was the best and least expensive route. The phone was in almost mint condition. Not a single flaw except the common gap on the speaker grills. I didn't get any packaging or accessories, just the phone itself.
Now about 3 weeks later I've noticed dust and lint under the glass about half an inch in from the volume rocker and it's really starting to bug me. Obviously it's a hardware defect, but I don't have the original receipt, only mine from the reseller. Is their anything i can do? I can return it for a full refund in the next week but I'm curious if there is any warranty at all i can utilize. Would AT&T do anything for me? HTC? Anyone else in this situation? Thanks!

Since you didn't get the phone from AT&T, I doubt they will give you anything on warranty. HTC warrants the phone for one year from purchase or 15 months from manufacture. The serial number of the phone identifies the manufacture date. If you call HTC, I wouldn't tell them any information they don't ask for. Also, if you send it back to HTC, make sure it is in full stock form. No unlocked boot loader and stock Rom. Remove all evidence of tampering with the device or they will deny warranty.

Thanks!

What kind of warranty did the business give you on purchasing it from them? If it's a shop worth their salt, it's at least 30 days. Can you take it up with them? If not, I would call HTC and talk to them about it. Just as dborgo states, don't mention that it was used and you should be fine. One user on here got caught up by volunteering info he shouldn't have and it cost him money for repairs. Simple Yes or No answers with a few vague responses SHOULD get you what you want.

Doesn't sound too good when I put it that way huh ... Actually I would like to see what happens if he tires to claim warranty on that phone. According to packer2058 it isn't unethical to do that.

I bought a One off CL and contacted att when I found a defect with the back camera. They sent me a new one with no issues. They had even asked where I purchased the phone and I told them off of a third party. I used the online chat. If you don't get the answer you want on the first call/chat just hang up and contact them right back. You will get through to a person who is helpful. Good luck

The official HTC Warranty
I took a picture of the warranty card that came with my One, since HTC's website is quite obtuse and the info was impossible to find. Basically, the HTC warranty goes to the original purchaser and is not transferable to a third party. That isn't to say that they won't work something out with you, but you should also be prepared to pay for the repairs if they find out.

I would guess your best bet is to go through AT&T. They are pretty good about warranties on the devices they sell. If they show your line using a ONE it shouldn't be a problem. If asked where it was purchased just tell them it was a 3rd party wireless retailer. Worst case scenario, I'm sure HTC will fix it for you but more than likely they will charge you at least 100 bucks. At that point you mine as well return it and buy a new one directly from HTC.

New vs Refurbished

ok so i bought a second hand note 2(month old) still looks new and everything (slight knicks)
i flashed and softbricked it...called Verizon they will send me a refurbished model! how sweet
but afterwards, I fixed it(stock-->flash/root)
so i have a choice of keeping my current one vs refurbished model.
which would you choose? is Refurbished a BAD choice?
I would go with the month old note my friend!! Especially if you have tested it (after rooting) and you are satisfied... I have a 6 month old Note2 and besides a couple of side scratches it works as well if not better as when it was a week old.... At the end though: Trust Your Instinct

yeah I'm leaning 75% to keeping the one I have
refurbished model will have completely new outside(a plus) but inside may be failing bc of the refurbishing process
but! then i don't know exactly how old my current phone is ...as it is a second hand and apparently warranty does not apply when bought second hand and they are giving me a replacement which is nice...
what to do ...
I want to know how you got them to send you anything if you bought the phone second hand? They normally don't just give phones away....
Will they be renewing your contract?
Did you even ask them if it would?
Whats up?
VZW isn't nice.... ever.

I'm pretty sure it is because it was a defect/the phone is under manufacture's warranty. In other words, VZW isn't losing money off of it.
I've had two get two refurbished models due to defects, so as long as your phone works perfectly fine I wouldn't risk it.
Or he could have the extended service plan. It covers all kinds of stuff.

I say you should not be rooting and messing up your phone on your own and then taking it in saying its defective.
That is what has been ruining the return process for people who actually get defective phones.

As long as anything works well I would take the refurbished. Make sure to check the headphone jack though - my note 2 is refurbished and the jack has a short in it (headphones only work when they are plugged in a certain way).

So why don't you just have them send you another? I really doubt that this is a common issue with refurbs. My phone just stopped charging a while back. I got a refurb and it's perfectly fine, as a bonus my original one did have a scratch that annoyed the hell out of me

Samsung refused to fix broken headset jack on rooted phone

Samsung just refused to fix a broken headset jack on a 2 month old phone obviously still under warranty because the phone is rooted. I am an android developer working for well known company in the industry. And this is a well known problem with headset jack on those phones. Really disappointed with Samsung. Had no such problem with LG devices. The problem clearly has nothing to do with software. They are just looking for a convenient way to avoid their warranty obligation on repair of a common issue resulting from their design flaw.

if using warranty make sure you un-root if you can.
Really all you had to do is take it to sprint

I've never heard of the headphone jack being a problem on this phone. Not sure why you wouldn't have unrooted to begin with being a knowledgeable person.
Did you ever have any luck taking it to Sprint?
This looks like an incredibly lousy experience, irrespective of what the man may or may not have otherwise done.
I'd say that if you ever have the choice between having the phone repaired at a place that knows what they are doing, and can do it on site (I am unclear if Sprint technicians can do a headphone jack replacement on site) and sending it off, choose the former and not the latter.
I cannot imagine being without my phone and mailing it off for repair.
This is perhaps why some opt for the reatiler's (ie, not Sprint) add-on warranty, as they supposedly swap it out for a new device, no questions asked.

This is why I buy all of my phones at Best Buy. I buy their insurance and they have fixed every issue I have had with mine(including my Note 2 that had a faulty headphone jack) and my now teenage children's phones. I've rooted nearly every device that I've bought from them. I get the Amazon price match out the door and a no deductible, no questions asked repair policy. And they provide you with a loaner device while they cross ship a refurb, or if your phone still functions, you hang on to it until the refurb shows up. Win/Win.

I to am a Best Buy insurance user. However, they do in fact have a deductible as of 09/01/2013. They have the discretion to charge a $100 deductible. If the phone has physical damage like a cracked screen you will be charged a deductible.

That is news to me. I wonder if this applies to newly covered devices only. I have 3 devices covered, two of which have been under coverage for some time and my new Note 3. Not once have I been informed about a deductible or change in their protection plans. You'd think if the terms of the contract had changed that I would have been notified and I haven't. I might have to look into an alternative now.
Thanks for the heads up.

They didnt tell me either when I purchased my Note 3 back in October. The only way I found out is through a co worker who dropped their iPhone and had the Best Buy insurance in November. They took it in and she had to pay a deductible b/c it had physical damage. I went on their website and sure enough they had changed it in September. My understanding is that if you purchased the insurance prior to September, you wouldn't have to pay the deductible, only for phones/insurance purchased after September.

Could you do me a favor, and let me know if they call it insurance or protection?
Real insurance doesn't work like that.

1. Why not go to a Sprint Store?
2. I've never heard of a headphone jack issue.
3. WHY you sent the device rooted?
Root = voided warranty
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Root(a software change) shouldn't void the warranty if there is a hardware issue.

If you don't have tep, Sprint will not fix it. I could be wrong....
If you don't have tep and Sprint refuses to fix it, Sprint will tell you the only way to fix it is if you are in Samsungs warranty period and to send it to Samsung.
Next time you have to take it to sprint. If I am not mistaken they don't deny you repairs even if you have a rooted phone. I took my galaxy note 3 which had a broken LCD and was rooted and didn't have any problem.
