I'm trying to put some decent firmware on my Galaxy Ace, but have hit a hurdle. I believe I've successfully rooted, but it's all fallen apart when trying to install ClockworkMod recovery.
All of the tutorials mention browsing for the ZIP file on the SD card, but my menu was different. My only option was to install UPDATE.ZIP from the SD card, so I rebooted, renamed the recovery-clockwork-5.0.zip file accordingly, went back into boot loader and then chose that option. It seemed to work.
Now I have no bootloader. Luckily, the handset powers on fine if you just press the power button, but switching it on with the centre front button held down hangs at the startup screen or goes into emergency download mode. I've no idea how to flash a new recovery other than by going through the recovery menu itself. This puts me at a loss as to how to proceed.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
as your recovery itself is gone you have to get it by odin flash stock firmware

Thanks for the quick reply. Unfortunately, I seem to have properly bricked it now. I foolishly went into ROM Manager and told it to reboot into recovery. Much mucking about later, and I can only get into Emergency Dload mode now.
I've been trying to get hold of Odin and the Cooper_v1.0.ops files, but everything seems to point me to some links on Mediafire, which is asking me for passwords that I don't have.
Seriously panicking now, as I don't have a working phone. Help!

Sorry if I'm being dim, but this is only the second time I've tried rooting a phone, and my HTC Desire went off without a hitch.
I'm guessing that I need the recovery.img file from the clockworkmod zip file, but which version of Odin should I be using (I now have 1.83 and 4.38, which boxes should I have ticked, and which of the 'images' boxes should I be using for the upload?
Thanks in anticipation
Are you have GT-S5830 or GT-S5830i? For me it look like you have the newer i version.

Thanks again
I installed ROM Manager, but the only option I used on it was 'Reboot into recovery.' Is that still enough to kill the Samsung, or has it simply set a 'recovery' flag that has it stuck in that mode until a successful recovery?
The label on the back says GT-S5830 rather than GT-S5830i, and I don't recall it showing the 'i' on start-up when it was working. That's what's put me off doing the recovery detailed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1552792
If all else fails, it's still under warranty. Fingers crossed they just fix it or swap it, rather than digging too deeply into why it went wrong.

Ok a buddy of mine last night started rooting my phone using the (How to Root AT&T Galaxy Note SGH-i717! [ICS][Gingerbread][Easiest Method]) he made it through the first part of puting the cwm on it. then when he tried to connect the phone via usb, to transfer superuser, the compter would not recognize my phone. so he could not go anyfurther do to the time we had left. so i tried to go home and finish up on the computer, since i figured the hard part was over. Now my computer does not recognize it either. ive tried re-downloading the drivers and downloading kies. and still nothing.
so my question is, can i finish rooting with out a computer and if not, what can i do?

I've assumed you followed direction got a rooted kernel using odin then install superuser, from that then use odin again to flash cwm.
Are you in download mode on your Note?
"1. Turn off your phone and uplug it. Take the battery out of your phone, put it back in, and hold the volume down button and power button at the same time. Keep them held down until the phone starts buzzing and you see the Samsung name.
2. At this point you are either in download mode or the phone will tell you to hit volume up, at which point you'll be ready."
IF not working, recommend starting from scratch
Use this first to get back to stock
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1506330
Then root via
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1504218
or this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1518962
Then install CWM using Odin from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1584576
Once done, nandroid and happy flashing

I don't think he has super user so he might not be able to delete it. If he can't connect at all and odin doesn't recognise then he ia in a tight spot. If you can get into cwm by holding the power button and vol up and down, try wiping everything factory cache div. Cache then fix permissions. If that and the drivers being ddownloaded did not work i sure hope you have an att warranty or have only had the fone for 30 days. If you take it back to the retailer and act like its stock they will never know or care. Try to get a guy who is an iphone fanboy if you get and android wiz you could be out of luck

this is the rason why u dont let friends do this kind of thing for u!! it is something u must learn..u may have bugs here and there and if u have no clue how to fix it ur %[email protected] so i would say undo all that he did then start fresh...use odin 1.85exe go find the att recovery b4 file plug in to odin click pda find where u put the recovery file that u DL put it in the pda box then u should be good to go
Ok ill make this so simple. You need to start over from the top. I would suggest going on YouTube search for how to root the Att galaxy note. Just watch it. Its a good way to learn odin. Then search Att galexy not recovery. This way you have a visual step by step. That's how I did it I watched it then followed along. I read all the comments (if any) in the comment section. Trust me it so much easier that way cuz you can stop and compare screens and such or stop and replay parts that u need.

If you can't access a computer.
I'm writing this because as I understand it, your friend was SUCCESSFUL at getting CWM on and just not root. If your phone is working otherwise, then try this.
With the phone turned OFF
Hold down BOTH volume buttons and turn the phone ON
When you see the Samsung logo appear LET GO of both volume buttons.
If you have CWM installed right you should be at the CWM menu, offering various options, just select REBOOT SYSTEM and post back here and let us know if CWM is in fact installed correctly.
Good day,
I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 phone, which I recently unrooted. I followed this guide to unroot:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1710613
I used Odin3, v1.85. The file I put in the PDA section was downloaded from the site in the guide and was the following: I9300XXALF5_I9300PROALF1_I9300XXLF5_HOME.tar.md5
I did run into some problems while attempting to unroot though, a few times I started the process in Odin to find it had failed after the first quarter of the bar was filled. I think this might have had something to do with my pc ejecting my phone whenever it felt like, but I'm not completely sure (the rooting was done on a different pc by someone else). Of course, because of that I couldn't properly start my phone and it gave me an error message about the firmware not being correctly installed. I persisted and eventually I got it working, though no idea how I managed.
Now, before the root and during the root I had Android 4.1.1, but after the unrooting it went to 4.0.4. Whenever I try to search for an update, either via WiFi, 3G or even Kies on the pc, it says there aren't any new updates. Device status is normal, and custom binary download is No. Bought my phone in Belgium, if that matters any.
Screenshot of the about screens in attachment. Is there anything I can do to get it to update, preferably without the use of Odin?
Please be gentle, I'm a complete noob when it comes to this and I'm not looking to reroot.
Thank you for reading through!
just connect your phone with computer and update via samsung kies
else, download the firmware from http://sammobile.com/firmware/ for your country and flash using pc odin

Thanks for taking the time to reply! I however already tried with Samsung Kies, and it says there isn't an update there too. I tried finding the latest firmware on the site you linked for unrooting, and it came up with the file I mentioned in the first post, which resulted in 4.0.4. I'm kinda hesitant to flash again, since I encountered problems when I unrooted.
EDIT: Just tried with Kies again, and it tells me it is the latest firmware. It says something like this:
PDA:LF5/PHONE:LF5/CSC:LF1 (PRO)
Root your phone again
And install mobile odin
Then wipe data and cache using Mobile Odin
It will factory reset
Then you will see that your device status becomes normal
Then go to super su settings and choose full unroot

Thank you! I will try that soon, when I have time. Just a question though, is there no need for Triangle Away with this method? I remember using it for the unroot before.
I think you should also use triangle away to reset the flash counters

Guess I'll post it here for people who happen upon the same problem.
Got it fixed, using this guide:
androidcritics.com/how-to-update-samsung-galaxy-s3-to-official-android-4-1-1-jelly-bean-xxdlib-firmware/
Basically just used Odin to flash the file downloaded there (I9300XXDLIB_I9300OXFDLI1_I9300XXDLIB_HOME.tar.md5) on the phone, worked after the second try. I think my problem is that my computer decides to eject my phone whenever it feels like.
After flashing 4.1.1, it found and installed 4.1.2 update, so I think it's fixed now.
Thanks to everyone who helped. Cheers!
I'll first list specs of my phone so it gives you some information you might need to help me solve my problem.
Verizon Galaxy S4
Android 4.3 MK2
Download mode works properly. Phone will not turn on unless it is plugged in via micro USB. Recovery mode boot loops.
(Recovery mode) I hold volume up and power after I plug in the micro usb to turn the phone on, and it shows the samsung logo, and the blue text pops up in the corner and says "Recovery Booting". After about 2 seconds of it showing that, it'll just black screen and repeat this boot loop of the samsung logo popping up and the blue text as if I have the recovery keys held down.
What led up to all of this is, my phone crashed and it turned off and tried to reboot, and crashed during the reboot. That's where I ran into the problem with the phone not turning on unless it was plugged in(battery is fully charged). At that time, if I plugged it in and didn't touch any keys, it would vibrate, and then a battery icon with a gray circle loading thing would pop up in a frozen picture. Then after about 8 seconds, it'd black screen and boot loop that. I couldn't get into Recovery at that time, but download worked fine. So then I googled a little and I flashed something onto my phone using Odin and Download mode. The file is supposed to make the default boot sequence go to recovery mode. This worked, but since Recovery mode is broken, it doesn't work entirely. After this, I didn't do anything for a day, and then I read some posts and tried flashing both a Wipe and No-wipe stock firmware MK2. Both of which did not work, since still, the phone was defaulting its boot to the broken recovery mode.
So as far as I know, the only way to do anything to the phone is through Odin and Download mode since nothing else works. I'm really hoping I'll be able to fix this, because I'd rather not pay $100 for a new phone :/
Basically what I'm asking for is what I should do next.. My only last thought is(If its possible) to wipe the phone using Odin, then putting the stock firmware back onto it. (The wipe of course getting rid of that stupid file that makes it go into recovery mode.

I'm sure someone smarter then me will know exactly what is going on here but things I'd try in the mean time is another Odin file possibly. I believe Surge has said that if MK2 file doesn't work to try the MJ7 full wipe/Re-Partition one. At this point what you got to lose?

I would strongly suggest the Full Wipe method back to MK2. As long as you can boot into Download mode this is probably the best way to get a clean OS working again. From there you know the drill, Saferoot, SS, etc.

Use sp flash tool and install another recovery. That will surely work. Just download sp flash tool and drivers for your device and install these files in your pc. After that download recovery.img and scatter file.txt for your device. First load the scattered file.txt using sp flash tool, now uncheck all the tick box except the recovery. Now click on recovery and select the recovery.img which you have downloaded. Now take out your phone's battery and connect it via usb cable. Make sure you have installed your phone's drivers. Click on download button on sp flash tool. If not works then remove the usb cable and reconnect again. You will see a green circle saying its done. Click on ok. And try to get into recovery again.

If he's using Safestrap, it most likely means he can't flash a recovery image. He could brick his phone.
Was just going to say that. I don't know much about that flash tool myself... Is it an alternative to Odin? From the little I read... You can flash an entire rom or just something in particular to repair a phone. Either way I don't think the OP should try that method. Stick with Odin.

+1, the only safe option is to flash a clean factory image via Odin. Otherwise say hello to your new doorstop if you mess with Recovery on MK2 locked bootloader
Flash new image >> 15-25 minutes
Root >> 2-3 minutes
SS >> 3-5 minutes
HD RLS15 (for example) >> 15 minutes
In about an hour or so phone is back up and running. No brainer..........

The thing is.. I've tried flashing new images before, and all its doing is overwriting my old one, but the stupid factory thing I flashed makes the default path the broken recovery so I don't think this will work.

I followed the directions for everything as they were given and I got the same result I've gotten after flashing anything. Everything works fine, then the big blue "RESET" icon appears on Odin, then the phone reboots, I get samsung logo, and then the blue "recovery booting" text shows up.. and then the screen blacks out, and boot loops that same thing.

Make sure you're using the Full Wipe image (SCH-I545_VZW_1_20131212083410_mwx72ql56g_fac.zip), and have extracted it to a .tar.md5
Also download the JFLTE_USA_VZW_16G.pit (assuming you have the 16GB version of the S4).
Put the .tar.md5 in the AP section and the PIT file in the PIT section.
Leave the other checkboxes in Odin at their defaults.
Take a screenshot at this point, click Start, and then take another screenshot when it completes or gives an error.

EDIT: I looked up the battery icon problem and I found some interesting news. After all of the struggling with the darn phone, this is a common problem with this phone on 4.3. Its an overheating issue to the PBA(Motherboard I think). Thanks everyone for the help, I'm just gonna send it in and get a new phone.
Hello Peeps,
Here is the tutorial on how to root Jelly Bean 4.3 Android 4.4.2 on Galaxy Note 3 Neo SM-N7505 Using CF-Auto-Root:
Prerequisites:
Install the USB driver with USB debugging enabled from the Developers Tool
Make a necessary backup of any important data.
Make sure your device has enough battery juice in it (80%)
Step 1: Download and extract the following files:
Download:
CF-Auto-Root-hllte-hlltexx-smn7505.zip
Odin v3.09
You should get a .tar.md5 file within extracted folder. Extract Odin zip file and you will get Odin3 v3.09.exe along with few other files. You could use any extracting software such a WinZip, Winrar or 7zip to extract files.
Step 2: Put Your Galaxy Note 3 Neo SM-N7505 In Download Mode
Now turn off your phone and wait few seconds for vibration to confirm complete switch off. Then boot it into the Download Mode. To do that press and keep holding the Volume down and Home button at the same time, with these two buttons pressed press the Power Button all simultaneously. When a warning message is displayed press on the Volume Up button to continue to the process.
Step 3: Run Odin
Now run Odinv3.09.exe in as an Administrator because an Admin privilege is required to complete this installation process without any hiccups. Now connect your phone with your PC using USB cable. Once you connect, you will see a message under Odin’s message box in the bottom left-panel displaying “Added”. You should also see ID: COM port with a number and colored box in Yellow/Blue i.e. if you successfully added your device, if not then you can do the following Steps:
Re-start the same procedure.
Try Uninstalling and then re-installing the drivers again and restart you pc.
Use different USB cable.
Ensure KIES is not running in the background.
Disable Your Antivirus.
Uninstall or disable any program that may be causing conflicts such as your OEM’s PC Suite or any other third party software.
Step 4: Staring the flashing process
In Odin, make sure Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time checkboxes are only two that are selected. DO NOT SELECT ANY OTHER OPTION! Click the AP button and select that file CF-Auto-Root-hllte-hlltexx-smn7505.tar.md5 you downloaded earlier in Step 1 with extension .tar.md5. Now, once you are ready, hit the START button to begin the flashing process. This process may take a minute or two to finish. Please do not disconnect your phone once Odin sets in motion. As the installation process completes, your phone will reboot itself and you will see a PASS message with green background in the left-most box at the very top of the Odin. You can now unplug the USB cable to disconnect it from the computer.
Voila, You have successfully rooted your phone

No, Don't use it.
Using chainfire method if you root your phone you will trip the Knox to 1 and void the warranty.
Please note for now it is irreversible to change Knox to 0.
Please wait till alternative method comes up because if something goes wrong Samsung service centre may not service the phone.
It is a huge risk.
Sincere advice please do NOT root for now.
In the above post he has mentioned N7505 and you have N750 so both are different models.
But if you want to go ahead then you need similar file which states N750 in the file name.
Click here to get the correct file.
Check this site also.
Cheers!

First flash the original firmware to get back your phone in the working condition. Then make sure you have the USB tool installed for Windows and have USB debugging enabled. You can also try a different version of ODIN.. Though these files worked perfectly for me. Please do cross check the files.

Go to this site : >>autoroot.chainfire.eu<<<
Search for your model number : N7500(hl3gub) or N7505 (hlltexx) .. Click on "File" & download the zip file. Compatible Odin is already there inside the zip file posted by Chainfire. So don't flash with any other Odin version. Incompatible Odin will Brick your device.
Rest of the steps are easy .. as already mentioned in this thread.
0) Extract the zip file into a folder lets say FOLD_X, everything you need is inside this folder apart from USB drivers.
1) Install Samsung USB drivers(mentioned in this thread, worked for me) or Kies (but disable/kill Kies software after installation) (You can also take backups using Kies for the Oh ! No! Moments )
2) Boot in Download mode.
3) Open Odin
4) Connect USB
5) Check the ID: COM port and "Added" message.
6) In Odin the checkboxes ( Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time checkboxes ) will be auto selected.
7) Click on PDA, select the .md5 file, inside the folder you just extracted.
8) Click Start and wait for the phone to restart(20 second process)
I have done it on N7505.
Cheers !

Well... If you root.. You won't get OTA updates... And plus you can always flash the latest firmware with Odin and a backup.

But before you do all that.. Please do sit down and make a note of the information about your phone.. The firmware region etc. So you don't mess up the model versions later

So you're telling me you have rooted and your phone is working fine with root permission.. But you're recovery is not working... Right? Then if I were you I would have flash a custom TWRP recovery.

Hello everyone,
I followed this by the book and got a soft brick! Please help, I have no idea what to do. Tried to do the recovery with Samsung kies but no luck. Anyone has drivers for the phone? Want to install them again so if I can see kies improves (n7505).
