I remember back when I was on the Galaxy S3, it was reported that depending on your area, different modems performed with varying degrees of stability. I'd recommend trying out each of the different basebands and see if any of them work better for you in your area. It's difficult to say that one will work better than the other because each region is slightly different.
If you're going to be flashing different basebands, you're going to want to flash the engineering bootloader first.

hi
i flashed the latest stock I9100XILA2 (Italy),just flashed the csc for my country instead of italy.
I saw that the modem shipped with this latest rom (januar 2012) , XWKI1 is older then the one that came with my rom xxkk2 from november 2011,which is xwki4.
is it recommended to stick with the modem that came with the rom?like are there optimizations in that rom for that specific modem,so it works best with that rom?
Or doesnt it matter what modem one uses?
i tested both (flashed with odin),but no way to judge on the performance, because of heavy fluctuations on the local net, which gives very different results after each test run, with both modems.
Apreciate any information on this.
Thanks.
Try out a bunch of modems and use whichever gives you the best performance. You might need to test each in different locations/different times of the day & so on to get a good guide. That's what I did before I settled on the modem I've been using for the last month and half.
No need to stick to a modem that was packaged with a particular rom
thanks for your answer
which modem do you use now,or do you think is the best for you?
cheers

Hi,
Im kinda new in the android section and need some help.
I have done CWM and Root via ODIN.
Now I want to install a custom rom. Rom that I want to install says XXALF6.
I checked my baseband and it says XXLE8 and Build : i9300XXALE8
So what do I have to do?
Just proceed and install it or do I have to do something else before I go on with it.
Many thanks.
You can just install the rom the baseband and firmware share version numbers I believe.

Thanks for your answer i just installed a custom rom. It works perfect.
My other question is now my baseband, firmware version changed does this affect my mobile data or any ways of my 3G connection like phonecalls, messages etc?
Baseband is not firmware its the Modem .
Different modems can be flashed from the modem thread .
jje
Thx for the answer, so I didnt flashed the modem? It's only the rom?
Yep,most of the custom roms do not contain another modem, you have to flash it via odin individually,or via cwm,if it is downloaded as a cwm flashable zip

Modems are unrelated to the Rom itself, so you can flash any you like.
The modems have vast differences in terms of network stabiliy and data throughput.
Many people, including me, have the best performance on asian big-city-modems (with S1,S2,S3) but in the end you'll have to try for yourself.
On S3 I've so far had the best experience with ZNLF2.
However you'll have to note that better signal/data throughput always means worse 3g battery life since it needs more power for the transmission.

Hello...
Sorry if my Thread have been suggested before i did not find one suggest over here
so my question is ... anyone did flash JB modem on ICS stock rom?
if yes and worked , can some one throw a link for JB modem for G.N SGH-I717 .. my single keep down almost the time :crying:
There is a search button and I've done it ..........
my addiction:Flashing.
thank you shy
i got lost in searching ... so please could you help me out !!?
Just type for modems .......im on mobile and working so i can't link you at the moment .... Try looking for ucmb4 modem for our i717
my addiction:Flashing.
I know what they say about assuming, so hopefully it only takes place on your part here, but if you're assuming newer = better, you're very wrong. If you're on ICS, you aren't going to net any improvement by going to a JB modem. I know, without a doubt, ICS modems on stock JB cause major problems, so they really are software dependent. On top of that, if you're going it hoping to increase data with another (not AT&T) provider, you're picking a horrible modem to try that with. UCMB4 is the crowned ICS king of reception & data, and the blaze modems are a close second.
Modems are independent of versions so flash any modem you want.

Running a Bell JB modem file over JB Sandwich rom (ICS based) and it runs fine so far
I looked in the [REF]S3 RIL+Modem CWM Flashable collection, but I couldn't seem to find the XXUGMK7 modem. Is this available yet as a stand alone CWM flashable *.zip?
Never heard of GMK7 modem, only that the XXUGMK7 build (originally from Israel) comes with the GMK1 modem

Ah, thanks. I guess I'm on the latest release then?
The ml4 build is considered newer, but your rom is pretty solid too.
How about moving to a world of custom roms? as my signature implies , I strongly recommend neatRom:

Well, I found DDUGMK1, but I still can't seem to find XXUGML4, and I looked back to August. Is DDUGMK1 newer than XXUGMK6?

And yes- it considered newer, but it doesn't really matter- what's important is that you'll get preper reception

OK, thanks. As you can see from my sig, I already have that modem. I recently flashed to the DDUGMK1 series, but it actually seems to be running better. So which build is newer?

Walter this is perfect man!! I'm running it on V5.5 now and I have no issues.
But I need this because I restored back to MJ5 multiple times testing different flavors of kitkat and somewhere along the way, I never replaced my CP slot with MLG; I've been running on MJ5 on Bobcat for weeks now and didn't even know it.
I just upgraded to KnoxRaid 5.5 using NC2 and I can feel the difference. I forgot to say I was using your debloater on 5.5 too and all is well.
Thanks bro!!
I hate that we can't even downgrade the modems... AT&T is pissing me off.
NC2 seems to be working well. I will report back this evening after running a bunch of tests.

Signal. Check your signal strength in settings.
Any time I roll back a modem below MLG, it causes a long boot time. After it finally boots, my baseband is listed as unknown.
Currently using X-Note 12

Oh weird. I think it might have something to do with 4.4 modem = any 4.4 kernel and 4.3 modem = any 4.3 kernel.
