Where are all the roms? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 5

Hi guys and gals,
I recently switched back from the Nexus line of phones to the Galaxy S line, which I have NOT regret at ALL, but where are all the ROMs for our S5? I am not being ungrateful to the dev's who are producing the current selections, but I am looking for ROMs such as Paranoid Android, PACman ROM, etc.... and before anyone says it, no, I am not a dev, so no, I cannot port it over or build it myself, just asking if anyone has an insight on the current status of amount of ROMs available. TIA!!!

Check the SGS5 international threads, you'll find plenty there. They're cross compatible with your device.

Almost all of those ROMs you listed are based on CyanogenMod device trees. We barely have a working CyanogenMod at this time. Check out unified development. Also as said there are plenty of stock based ROMs floating around in the G900F section which are compatible with G900T.
I expect once the S5 gets most features working properly and starts getting merged into the main CyanognenMod codebase you'll see development take off more. Right now plenty of issues to work though such as camera, media apps (YouTube) FCs, senors being flaky, etc.
Reading the threads in the unified development section is a good way to keep up-to-date, as well as Twitter and G+ of course.

Thanks for the info!... So just to insure, only stock custom ROMs from the G900F section are currently working on our devices but not the CyanogenMod based ROMs, right?

Not sure what you mean by "stock custom ROMS". Anything in the international section that is compatible with the G900F (almost all of them) are compatible with our phone. Every single one except the ones that are made for the G900H, the exynos model.

Rooted Android Devices + List of ROMs

Hello all,
I am currently looking for some statistics about rooted android devices or devices running alternative ROMs or things like that. Can someone provide me with such statistics. I only know the stats.cyanogenmod.com website, but even though cyanogenmod is probably the most widespread there are a LOT of other ROMs.
Oh jea and btw. Is there a, less or more complete list, of Android ROMs.
Thank you very much !!

Differences between the JB ROMs?

This might be a silly question, but what exactly are the differences between the three Jellybean ROMs I see in the dev section (Paranoid, CM10, AOKP)?
None of these seem to have any kind of "feature log" or changelog.
Anyone have any insights?

Paranoid Android Is Jellybean
AOKP....not going there with that one
CMX, Pure build from code. Great rom.
differences, not exactly sure, but most will have a twitter to keep up with changes if possible

I'm not trying to be a ****, but you kind of didn't answer my question in any way.
a) What's wrong with AOKP?
b) I know Paranoid is JB, that's why I mentioned it. Are you saying it's stock JB? Kinda confused on the wording here.
c) Obviously, you're a fan of CM10 (aka CMX). What makes it so good compared to the other two? I see the thread for it has more posts (and thus seems to be more popular), but why?
Again, I'm not trying to be difficult. Just hoping to get an answer without having to flash 3 different ROMs.
Each ROM has different features.
CM isnt just straight AOSP

As much as I am grateful that people are paying attention to this thread and attempting to answer, this is the 2nd non-answer I've received so far.
I know each ROM has different features, that's why I made this thread.
I know CM isn't just straight AOSP.
My issue is that unlike most of the Sense ROMs, these JB ROMs have no feature list at all, and don't even cite any sort of changelog. Thus, I can't make an informed decision on which ROM to flash.

That's like.. not even fully correct.
Please make sure you know what you're talking about before you answer questions, as not knowing the answer will only cause more confusion.
To OP,
Paranoid: Paranoid Android is an AOSP JB ROM that focuses on the fusion of phone mode and tablet mode. Typically putting a phone into tablet mode would be cool, but some features of tablet mode just don't work that well on a phone. So they've worked on making the tablet mode experience work better on a phone. You can read more about it here.
AOKP: AOKP (Android Open Kang Project) is a highly customized AOSP build that is somewhat similar to CM in that it has a lot of tweaks available to it. AOKP actually has a bit more customization than CM, allowing you to center the clock, add the day of the week to the clock, weather in your notification menu, and a few other neat tricks. You can read more about it here.
CM10: CyanogenMod is the most popular custom Android ROM around, with a very large user base. It supports many different devices. We just recently received official support, meaning we will get official releases and nightlies on a daily basis. This is a plus for CM, because we don't have official support for AOKP and Paranoid, which means we might not always get the newest updates. While it has less ability for customization than AOKP, CM is still a very solid AOSP ROM. You can read more about it here.
All three are great ROMs, and at this point they have mostly the same bugs. I would personally suggest CM10 because the development for it is a bit more active and I've noticed better battery life and less buggyness while running that over AOKP.

Thanks you so much for your in-depth answer.
I'll do some more research with the provided links, and will probably flash something tonight.
Thanks again.

No problem. I would suggest trying them all, since there are differences between each of them.

It was directed more twards the poster above me. My pizza got delivered in the middle of typing so I had to go let the guy in. Sorry my post was so short and abrupt.
SoraX did a great job of explaining the main goals/differences between the ROMS>
The reason there isnt a changelog is because at this point the developers are more focused on getting things working 100%. Its the nature of the beast.

[Q] How far have custom firmware come on the SIII so far?

Hello.
So I just ordered a GSIII and it will probably arrive in a day or two.
Until then I decided to try learn everything about this phone (or at least as much as possible)
Here some simple(maybe) questions I have.
How far are they with the custom ROMs? I saw there are quite a lot of them so far but the once I looked on (based on jellybeans) where still having camera problems and a few other minor issues. Are there any stable custom roms where almost everything works?
Another question is. I saw there is a normal android dev sub forum and a new one called "original android dev"
I guess the first one is dev projects based on samsungs official ROM while the other one is for dev project based on AOSP?
What's the pros/cons for each? I guess the AOSP roms don't have the video window playing while doing other stuff and maybe not the galaxy beam thingy?
Also I have been pretty much dead on this forum for half a year.
Tried to do a comback two months ago but my Desire got bricked I think since it completely died during change of hboot.
Anything groundbreaking I have missed in the world of android the past half year (I already know about the most common things like the major things JellyBean brings but not all of the details)

Is a completely stock non-TouchWiz ROM possible?

Hi guys
I'm aware of CyanogenMod, but is it possible to have a completely stock JB ROM with no mods (other than busybox, deodexing, etc..) or custom apps installed? I can't seem to find one
Cheers
The community will correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe you'd have to build from source (AOSP) if you wanted something that is super-vanilla and hasn't been touched by a manufacturer outside of CM, AOKP, etc.
That said I also believe this particular question should be posted in the General or Q&A sections, for future reference.

Thanks for the reply
I mean Android was made to work on all devices right, but does CM do something like adding "drivers" (or the equivelent)? Is that what developers do when they "port" something like a new ROM that has been released on a similar device?
If multiple devices have a stock Android JB ROM, and they're also using a Tegra 2 CPU (and I'm guessing they all use the same type of RAM) etc.. is it quite easy to port? Do you have any idea how difficult it would be to compile it from source/getting it to run on a device?
I'm into technology, but without some serious research, I wouldn't have a clue where to start unfortunately
P.S. Yeah I realised after, already reported it to be moved
I've never ported between devices, but I've read enough to say confidently that things can be tough if you are porting between devices that are too different. At the very least you should stick between manufacturers...like it would be easier to port from Galaxy S2 Hercules to S2 Skyrocket for example than it would be from S2 to HTC xxx. There are quite a few good guides that explain how to port safely as long as the board configs and other important stuff are the same. If you aren't sure, don't do it.
For compiling from source, do a search on XDA here for shenye's guide "Compile JB on Ubuntu" - it was also featured on XDA TV. It's very helpful. Compiling isn't all that hard, but takes time and patience especially if you are working on a non-flagship device. It will likely take much research to find the right repositories for your device and vendor config, plus time to fix any errors the compiler reports.
Good luck!!

[Q] Which ROMs are still actively updated?

I'm looking for a new ROM that will be relatively trouble-free, but is also actively supported/updated.
I love the UX/features/philosophy of SlimBeam ROM on my Note, but it does suffer from some instabilities.
Unfortunately, SlimBean for the I717 hasn't been updated in ages and is no longer in their list of supported devices. (Is it possible to run ROMs written for the Note N7000 on a Note I717?)
The I717 also does not support the newest version of CyanogenMod.
I've read thru the ROMs in the Development forums, but does anybody have info on which are still active projects and which are dead ends?
Any recommendations (for or against particular roms)?
Thanks.
Go to the AT&T Galaxy Note I717 Android Development section for what you are looking for.

i build slim 4.2.2 on a regular basis, your clearly looking at the 4.1.2 version in original development
all the releases i put out see regular updates actually, slim/pk/chamelon/supernexus ect..
edit: and your looking at the wrong place for cm, quincyatt is very well up in the mix with the newest cm releases, get.cm <-- thats where you find the releases
Anytime you choose a "custom" rom there's going to be bugs, or glitches, or random reboots in my opinion. But you're also going to get cool features! You'll have the ability to customize you phone more with custom roms. So it's a trade off. Only you can decide what you can live with and without. If you're looking for custom roms the dev usually updates the title with the last time he updated it. You can then read over the first post and find out what's included feature wise. Very very rarely will you find a complete list of bugs the rom has. You have to surf thru posts to see complaints, and kudos. If you're looking for stability, the i717 got an 4.1.2 JB update a week or so ago. It's the most stable thing out in my opinion. You can give it root access, debloat it, and enjoy a smooth rom if that's what you're after.
Oh and its not possible to run N7000 roms as far as I know. I'm pretty sure you'll brick your device.
I hope that info helps ya out a lil.

I'm still on Slim-i717-3.1.0-OFFICIAL.
Do you know if 4.2.1 stable 1.0 is available anywhere for the I717?
And how stable are the 4.2.2 builds? (I've spent enough years in sw development to be cautious - Mark Twain once wrote "People who love sausage and respect the law should never watch either one being made," and the same definitely applies to software)
In my opinion the 4.2 based custom ROMs are way my stable then the 4.1.2 based ( the exception is 4.1.2 based stock ROMs) used to get a reboot every couple hours . 4.2 rarely do I see one. If you are looking for stable but don't really care about all the frills try Jamie's super nexus the first build is bullet proof pure asop like your phone is a nexus doesn't see a lot of updates but its stable.
