Phone black screens after a while - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

A few days ago my phone became extremely slow and apps would crash after opening. I went and flashed a update on my rom, and thought maybe it would be fixed. But that didn't change anything, so instead I tried to flash an entirely new rom (after wiping my old data) and see how that would go. But instead it was even worse. On the opening screen when I click on the button to continue from the language selection my screen turns black with only the status bar. Then after about 20 seconds the entire screen turns black and unresponsive. When I press the screen the bottom lights turn on and when I hold the power button the phone vibrates as if the power options appear. The only way to get rid of this is to pull the battery or hold the power button until it reboots. I thought it would be possible there was a virus on my sdcard, so I reformatted the entire card. I tried flashing many different roms and the things still happened. I tried flashing without gapps and the welcome screen never showed up. But after a few seconds the same thing happened again. Now my phone is in a completely useless state, can someone please help me? I feel like it it's a hardware problem, but it doesn't seem like anything that could be related to something like that. If it's a hardware problem please help me try to find the part that's broken. Thanks in advance.
TL;DR: My phone black screens (which cannot be removed unless I reboot my phone) after 20 seconds upon loading ANY rom.

Some of it sounds like a stuck power button, but more off are you flashing a rom for your device and is it a true CLEAN flash.
Gots to be clean
You did not mention what you were running or trying to flash. You didnt even mention your device.
Maybe it is i717, but there are a few variants.

Oh sorry, yea the flash was completely clean, I used DARKSIDE Super Wipe plus formatted/wiped everything.
The roms that I tried were Beanstalk, Liquid Smooth, PAC, and Cyanogen
My device is the T879, which is the T-Mobile version of the i717, and I posted here because the other forum is really inactive.

[HELP] Phone wont turn on

Okay so hope this is the right spot to post this....
My phone about two hours ago was on working fine. At about 30% bat...
I took a nap and now when i plug it in to the charger it will not turn on at all.. only thing that happens is the LED blinks that orangy color over and over...
If i remove the battery and put it back in.. still nothing at all ever comes on the screen.
After removing the battery and while plugged into the charger if i hold the power button it will vibrate once and thats it...
not sure whats happening.
I was on gingeritis 1.0 and everything was great up to this point.
any ideas??
Let is attempt to charge for a while, maybe 2 hours. Then see if you can power up into the bootloader. See if that works.
I had that happen once as well. I just let it sit on the charger for about 15-20 minutes, and it booted up with no problems after that. In my case, it looked like the battery was just completely dead and needed to build up enough juice to last until after it booted up.

Wrong section brother.

Ditto, try pulling battery out for 5-10 seconds, put the charger. It will not blink, then it will flash orange blinks let it sit for some 15. Minutes. Remember that TB takes alot of juice to reboot sometimes 5%.
STAY AWAY FROM ALL GINGERBREAD ROMS
My phone got stuck on the white htc screen this morning all of a sudden without any perceivable reason at all. Luckily I was able to restore to a backup.. BUT... It wouldn't install any new roms on my phone anymore for some reason.. they all get stuck on the white htc screen.
My advice.. GB is f&&&ked somewhere deep down.. and which is probably why it isn't officially released yet. Keep off of it if you don't wanna brick your phones.

That's a sign of a hardware failure I had a bad touch screen and once it went out it wouldn't boot past the splash, I'm sure it's similar with other hardware failures so it's a bad device not the gingerbread roms
Atleast that's my opinion

I had this happen to just a few ago.
Picked up the phone and screen was off,Normal, I hit power and nothing.
Pulled battery, went bootloaded mode recovery and wiped and loaded bamf.
I have all the roms on my SD now.
Serious now, that was the second time I loaded th3ory.
The first time, I went to uninstall something and when I hit uninstall the button started flickering wild.
I kept mashing uninstall,I got it to switch to the next screen where you hit ok.
Then got a pop up over and over, phone force close sorry.
Pulled battery and went recover and loaded bamf.
So th3ory came out with v4 I thought ok why not.
Then I had the dead phone problem like you are talking about.
I don't want to bash any dev or Rom but I'm not sure about th3ory Rom guys.
I posted because this just happend to me and many post are talking about battery.
I don't think its a battery problem guys

For one all GB ROM have the data load issue when trying to uninstall. Second, if it was a issue, more people would have reported it.
Titanium Backup, a App you use in every ROM, CPU setting to low, not wipe to save some time, a multitude of things could cause you a issue.
In my defense, if it were my ROM, it would be heard.

Dude. Stop bashing the GB dev Rom. You run the risk of bricking with any Rom. Plenty of people are using GB and the 2.5 radio with no problems, myself included. If it docent work right on your phone then put something else on it. Not every phone is going to react the exact same way to a flash. Your always going to have those few exceptions, even with OTA's.

Not good advice at all.
Check your charging cable! I just had a bad cable the other day and my phone was doing the same exact thing... light bliking on and off. I found if I plugged it in and then lightly pulled it half way out the orange light stayed solid, but it took some work.
Before you start freaking out, just try another cable... hopefully its not the connectors inside your phone.

no need to get your panties in a bunch.. My advice is only worth whatever it is.. (which may be nothing too).. and I am not thrusting it on anyone to follow it.
Where the hell do you figure I am bashing devs??? The more time one spends on xda the more you come across these noob "police figures" who go around poking into unrelated stuff getting all worked up for nothing.. Like I said.. it is probably something to do with how the alpha gingerbread works at the core level which is causing all these problems.. it has nothing to do with devs.. and look around you.. plenty of people are reporting the same. I didn't see anyone complaining when devs reported the same with the earlier GB and asked people to stay away from it. Were they doing it so that they can bash other devs who had their GB roms out before they did? I don't think so. So quit shooting from your hips and move along.
If the led is blinking it means the phone is totally dead. If you let it sit the light will eventually become solid and be fine

Menu button not working

Hoping someone can assist as its driving my crazy and searched for a solution without luck.
Running SG2 with custom rom, rooted, Siyah kernel etc. Its not ROM related i believe as the problem occurs on different ROM's.
One day phone menu button decided not to funciton. The backlit part works but jsut doesnt provide the menu etc. If i hold it down it respnods, the keyboard appears but not menu etc.
Only solution to date is to restore a prior Nandroid backup ive made using CWM but then within a few hours the menu button gives up again. This occured when i went from Leocheck ROM to Rarity. Even tried wipe ROM version to clear everything and used Titanium to restore everything but eventually menu button dies again.
Has anyone else experienced this, i cant figure it out?
Damn, guess im the only one lol.
From what ive read on forums it could be a conflict with the ROM I installed being 3.9 Rarity and some apk i may have installed although i havent installed anythnig new.
Others thing some kind of bad framework installed but even when i reflash with a nowipe and reinstall data only via Titanium or advanced restore via CWM, after a few hours the problem reappears.
Besdies getting a new phone lol im really at a loss :-(
Just an FYI if anyone ever has the same problem as me. Via chance i discovered the reason why my menu button would often not work, it was due to Ultrakeyboard v6.1.
Its a newer release and works fine however whilst its selected, it kills your menu button. Once you change input, the menu button becomes functional again.
So end of the day after flashing many stock roms, kernels, modems etc it was as simple as a keyboard lol
This thread helped me. Same thing happened to my fiancee's phone. Menu button didn't work. Even flashed a new rom and eventually same thing happened. So, looked on here, found this, disabled Ultra KB and it works. They need to get this fixed.
Guys,
I have the same problem but dont have ultra keyboard my menu button just doesnt work anymore

Does your menu button do anything.what gave it away for me was that when I pressed the button, nothing happened but when I held it down the keyboard would pop up so it was atleast functioning, just not correctly.
Are you sure its not another duplication causing this.have you tried a fresh rom install without installing any additional apps?

Yeah have tried multiple fresh roms. Flashed stock with ODIN then upgraded over WIFI. Nothing. I also did a key test in recovery and it wasnt working. It is intermittent. Tho today its barely worked. I have done factory resets etc. Nothing has helped

[Q] Constant Rebooting

I'm wondering if anyone is having trouble with their phone rebooting constantly? I recently changed recoveries to 5.5.0.4, and now my phone reboots constantly. Never had this problem with the buggy no off-charging CWM (although I had the worst time getting my phone to boot after the battery died ), and I don't think I've changed anything else (same ROM) since then except recovery, but I don't think it's from recovery.
This is how it started: I was playing Tiny Tower last night to drain my battery, so I could have a fresh charge. When it got around 3% life, it rebooted, and now it has been rebooting whenever I turn the screen on for a few minutes. I tried fixing permissions and reinstalling NRGZ stock kernel, but it's still rebooting.
Has anyone else had this happen?
Edit: Went ahead and wiped everything and re-installed Energy ROM, and it seemed to have fixed the problem, but it just rebooted again. Starting to think it's a hardware problem now.
Also just for clarification, it's not a full reboot (no HTC splash screen); it just goes back to the boot animation.
Update: I went into the bootloader and did a factory reset and then wiped everything from CWM again and reinstalled Energy. I have slowly been restoring apps fron Titanium Backup, and I think the reboots were being caused by RootDim (possibly reacting negatively with NRGZ button backlight tweak). I'm not 100% sure about this, but it didn't start until I used RD to completely turn off the button lights. Anyways, the reboots seemed to have stopped for now...
I had a similar problem happening after I installed RootDim, but I never really inquired about it so I just left it uninstalled.
However, I saw on the forums that people solved these types of constant rebooting issues by going into CWM recovery > advanced > fix permissions.
I never tried it, but I kind of wish you didn't factory reset and reflash so you could give it a shot and let us know if it solves the problem

Are you sure you're flashing the kernel properly? Flash the ROM, then reboot the phone from recovery and let it boot before using the kernel flasher.
My buddy had a constant reboot issue (along with other issues) using that recovery when I tried rushing and flashing the kernel right after the ROM while still in recovery.

I just bought an Amaze from Ebay and it is running Energy rom. Once a day, it goes to that boot up screen with the spinning rings. However it's not a full reboot like you said, it just freezes the phone then I have to take out the battery and restart it. I am not a developer, so I have to ask, what is root dim? Sounds like that might be my problem. How do I fix it?

[Q] phone app acting up?

So one day out of the blue, my phone starts acting weird. I think hey no big deal, and I just go on to restart the darn thing. When it boots up it acting normal again, but then I start to get a phone call. No big deal I answer it, but when I go to hang up it is still stuck at the point I answered it. With the answer or decline button. I think to myself to reinstall the rom again. Do that same problem still going on... I install another rom same problem two roms later same problem even after flashing a stock rooted rom.. Now here is my real question what do you think is my problem? I went from cm 10.1 working fine, to an older cm10.1 then fresh rom 3.5 then stock. With the stock rom it would boot all the way to the home screen then restart. But on my cm 10 it would boot up fine act normal then when screen timer turned the screen off it would be stuck off not like frozen the lights at the bottom would cut on but not the screen, and I'd also hear it click off.
Any ideas or is this just something for sprint tep to handle?
More information is needed to even begin to answer.
S-on or S-off, recovery version, clean or dirty flash? Take a look at the sticky for rooting and flashing roms to ensure you are doing the right processes etc.

Need Help with My Note

Okay, Now I know I am not the only one with this problem. Also, I know I am one of the FEW people who have this problem.
Story:
I bought the Note the other day from someone, they claimed that the note was stuck in a boot loop. I purchased it, Did a factory restore etc. The phone came on and was working perfectly. THEN the battery died, now I understand what she means by stuck in boot loop.
What happens:
Phone turns on
Starts up
Freezes after about 2 minutes
Reboots & Repeats
Now there have been a couple times I can get it to stay on for about 12 hours then it will just freeze and reboot. I have tried factory firmware restore, I have rooted, I have tried custom Roms, I have unrooted, I have done stock rom. The battery is NOT bad, it holds a charge perfectly well, the Power button is NOT stuck. I have no idea what else I can do, I have tried just about everything and looked all over this site for the past 2 days trying to figure out info on this problem, but so few people are having it that it is basically just looked past.
Any help is MUCH appreciated and I will be very grateful if this issue can be resolved.
Have you tried removing the battery / changing the battery / using a different usb/charging cable/ac-dc adapter? Then clear the cache and dalvik cache and reboot. If you can get it to stay on for 12 hours I doubt that you have a serious problem.
Power button perhaps?

Not sure about power button on this one. It wouldnt freeze, it would just reboot.
I question software on it. If you can get it running long enough to find out what it is running.
I might question more, is it running OS for the right device or possibly was it a clean flash?
Sounds like its running an older 4.2 JB rom......notorious for random reboots. Could be a rom that just may not work on you phone. Mine could run all except Carbon Rom. Dont know why, just couldnt. No biggie, plenty out there.
