Bricked s2 what to do? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I don't know whether is this a correct forum to post this so please bear with me
I did not root my phone.
My samsung galaxy sIIG was unable to turn on whether on download mode, flash mode or normal mode
so I guess it was a hard brick
connecting it to my pc doesnt work, my pc can't detect it as well
Is there anything I can do to save it? If not, is there any way to extract the internal memory by myself without sending it to samsung service center?

try using a usb jig .. google how u can make it or simply buy one

Jig highly unlikely to work (1/10,000 chance, and I'm being generous), but try one as you have nothing to lose.
You won't be extracting data from the device, nor will a Samsung service centre or mobile repair shop. The only very very slim chance of getting data off the device would be a company that does data recovery from dead HDD's, but that's the same chance as the jig working - in 2.5 yrs here I've never seen anyone post & say they've had this done. And even if it is possible, expect it to be very expensive (as much as the phone costs).
If you didn't back your data up, it's gone.
If you intend to keep the phone, the fix is motherboard replacement.

Well thanks for the answer, its kinda disheartening to be honest... After motherboard replacement is everything would be in factory settings? meaning i couldnt retrieve the data i've lost as well?

Motherboard replacement = exactly that - a new (or 2nd hand) motherboard with a different EMMC on it.
'Factory settings' ? If you have a Samsung service centre put a new motherboard in, I presume they'll put the latest firmware they have on the device as well. If you source a 2nd hand board (or have a local mobile repair shop source one for you) & pay a local mobile repair shop to swap the boards, you could either tell them not to put firmware on it & do it with Odin yourself once it's been repaired, or they may put whatever the latest firmware is on same as a Samsung service centre.
Either way, data is gone.

[Q] Bricked Mobile : Which ServiceCenter in Gemany can help ?

Hi all,
I've a bricked Galaxy Vibrant T959 and blocked Recovery/Download Menu. Samsung reject the repairing because is not for the local market.
Now I'm searching a Service Center or someone else in Germany, which has can put the mobile into the DL-Mode via JIG ( Anyway Box) or via JTAG.
I'm still try to call different shops ( Handy Doctor etc.. ) but all which I 've call are working also "only" via the DL&Recovery Mode ...
Does someone help to find an address, where I can send the Mobile for repair?

Yes, it can
> I can switch it on till the "S" is coming, after that BLack-screen and the 4 keys are lightning.
> If I connect them into the USB, the green battery come up and the phone spend, if the Battery is full
Unfortunately the Recovery / Download Menu is blocked ( I've bricked them 2 days before the Recovery fix was coming out ( I'm idiot ...)) and so I have not found anything to received the DL Mode.... ( I think I have try all, what I've found) the PC reported an unknown device and deactivate the USB- Port. I haven't also found, which driver I can press manual to this device, that Odin can handle this one ....
Hi well here in Köln there are plenty of Turkish German shops that I'm sure would try to help you out. The problem is they really don't have any tools you couldn't have discovered for yourself on XDA. T-mobile USA I heard are real sticklers when it comes to repairing rooted phones even when the problem is not software related. I guess that goes to show your chances if you would send in your phone.
Still, if no European service center is willing to help you and you have exhausted every possibility of fixing it yourself I suggest calling T-mobile USA and telling them you moved to Germany and now your phone miraculously went blank. You might just want to try your luck with their repair department. Generally speaking, it's not always discovered you basically jacked up your phone yourself!
Alternatively I would suggest calling T-mobile here, they might be sympathetic to your case, although I think it's a long shot. It would really require some lying and creative story telling your part to get them to exchange your phone for a German one. In my experience especially their business support center is given a substantial amount of leeway to help customers with unusual problems and ideas and isn't tied down by the same rules they work with at the customer service for private kunden. E.g. they once helped me getting out of a Dutch contract prematurely, which would not have otherwise been possible.
Good luck!
The only problem here is - T-Mo US and Germany- that I have no contract. I using a Sim from Alice and they a cooperate with O2 .....
I believe the only way is, direct to connect Samsung US.... No Service-Center has a Anyway box If they talk a little bit, they all work with the tools, which are available everywhere .... Sh...t - why Samsung is not willing to repair - also not for money ... Global player - nice joke....
Maybe someone has another idea? I don't want believe, that the phone is now expansive trush ... 5 min in use; the plastic on the screen is still there ....

well, this phone is supposed to be near unbrickable. though i've never experienced this problem, i'm pretty sure it sounds like it's a soft brick on a HW locked phone. i don't know if your phone is already set to usb debugging mode but i guess this is worth a shot if it is:
1. extract AndroidSDK to your c:/
2.get the drivers from this post and install (these are supposed to be the correct samsung drivers and hopefully your pc will see the phone with these)
3. Download these files to some place where you know they'll be (Odin, 512.pit, JFD.tar). Also watch the vid tutorial on how to apply files so you'll get an idea of how this works.
4. after all that is done, try to access command prompt (start btn > run> cmd in windows xp iirc or shift+right click on desktop if you're in vista - not sure if it's the same on windows7).
5. once cmd is open, type in cd c:\android-sdk-windows\tools (that's to get you to where adb is)
6. open up Odin and plug in your phone into the USB.
7. go back into the cmd prompt: the cmd line should now read like this c:\android-sdk-windows\tools>, if it does type in this command: adb reboot download
i've never done this but i think that should get your phone into download mode and get it readable to Odin so that you could manually flash to stock. i should warn you that it's probably going to erase your data on the internal memory and that there's a chance that this can result in a full brick but at least if this is done correctly, your phone should be able to fully boot.
p.s: i've read plenty of times that Odin can be finicky and it may take multiple tries before it sees your phone and highlights the COM port.
BTW: check the Vibrant Bible out, for extra research before you try doing anything to your phone.
I'm hoping that someone more experienced at flashing will chime in on this post.
Thx for the time, to write all the different Steps.
Unfortunately, the PC does not see the Mobile. The PC reported only " Unknown Device and after this one, the Port is closed. So I have also no access via adb to the phone. Odin can not select any COM about the same reason.
In the case, that the Recovery- and Download Menu will working, so adb and Odin will be working. About the Defensive Phone, the Port is not open and so the chance to repair this phone is only via Anyway-box (JIG) to force the DL-Mode over the USB-cable or the more time-expansive method via JTAG.

If you cant get it into download mode, your only option would be either to send it to samsung for repair (will probably cost a lot) or a JTAG (google for your nearest location, and is probably cheaper)

So what did you flash in Odin anyway? You don't specify in your post.
Regarding your JTAG dilemma, from your last response, I would recommend contacting Samsung.

Just take it to Samsung. They will either JTAG it for you or replace the motherboard. Since your phone won't boot or go to download or recovery they cannot see you've done anything naughty with the warranty.
Say you did a Kies update and it never came back on.
i flashed with odin pit , pda , code and cs and i dont touche boot ?
so i dont understand why that !!!

Why would it cost? If the phone won't boot at all Samsung won't know what he's done and will do a warranty swap.

There has been people with phones under warranty that had to pay for their phones to be repaired (failed odin and etc). Hence the reason why I said "probably".
If he doesnt have to pay, good for him.

If the phone won't boot then Samsung can't tell what happened. As long as s/he lies and said it occurred via a Samsung sanctioned activity (like Kies flash) and the device is not physically damaged/liquid ingressed then it is a warranty job.
If OP does something pants-on-head-retarded like say "it died cos I repartitioned via Odin lol" then of course they will charge.
it mean then there are no solution
and i have to waranty it samsung
yes ?

Do say that to the people who had to pay for repair on their bricked phones after sending it to samsung. Im only stating an info from a few people who actually posted their complaint here on the forums.
As I said before, if he doesnt have to pay, good for him.

I can't comment on things without knowing the context. Are the threads still near the top?
For what it's worth I think that if you brick your phone you SHOULD be expected to pay for it. I would like to see this in action.
EDIT: If you mean the people who have been denied in the rc6 thread... they had their device JTAG'd first and Samsung saw the soldering on the mainboard, not the kernel.
it mean that if i send it to samsung , they will repair it for me without pay ?

No not those. Dont think they are at the top since they are from just a few months ago.
@MATRIX.REAL
Only way to know is to just send them the phone and see what they say.

May I ask, what are you exactly trying to point out? If you have a blacked out screen, with no power, recovery or download mode then I suggest you take it to samsung service centre. JTAG does fix dead bootloaders but you will need some experience of soldiering and wiring.

I said if odin can detect it on a black screen. It can be fully repaired with JTAGging! If you go to samsung service centre they will say the board needs to be replaced and charge will be high if you are out of warranty. And yes you need to know some soldiering if you have the jtag box. Or else ask someone who can give this service.

I see.. Before you do JTAG, do you have "some" knowledge of the JTAG Riff box? Yes the Samsung service center do rip people off .. However the JTAG box is not cheap whatsoever.

Will Samsung repair my phone? :(

Will Samsung be able to fix my Galaxy S3?
I was trying to bring the phone back to stock ROM and ODIN failed on me.
I tried pretty much everything and Odin would keep on failing. I tried to emergency recover it in kies but Kies would say, "connecting" and never connect. Thinking this is a USB Driver issue, I took it to Samsung Experience store to get it repaired. However, they could not restore it.
(***** THE PHONE WOULD GO INTO DOWNLOAD MODE but NOT the Recovery mode.*****)
So the phone turns on but can't go into recovery mode but CAN go into download mode. Odin just screws up on me. (Is this a soft brick?)
So the guys at the Samsung Experience store asked me to send it to Samsung to get it repaired. So I called the Samsung guys and he told me that "Reflashing the phone" is free of charge (even though my phone is out of warranty btw). But I'm worried that "reflashing" is the same thing they tried at the Experience store. So I'm thinking they would try the same thing the guys at the Experience store and fail.(Then charge me to do some other option.)
So the question is,
1)Would they be able to restore my phone without having to do an expensive method?(replace motherboard or something)
2) Will they still do the repair? (My phone was rooted but I heard the root record gets deleted when you try to put a ROM through ODIN)
3)I still want to fix my phone even if it costs money. So how much do you expect the repair fee would cost if they cannot recover by software means?
4)How long would this repair take in general? I need this phone ASAP
Man this sucks..... I bought this phone for 200 dollars at Textnow like a month ... It would definitely cost less money to repair than 200 bucks right?
Dont worry, thats not a hardware problem.
:good::good::good:
1. Yes, they will be able to fix it. I hope you aren't in the USA, because you'll have to ship it out of the contedent. I could fix your phone. It's not very hard.
2. Root will be wiped, but when you reboot into Download mode, it shows that the phone has been rooted. Depending on what area you are in, your warranty may not be honored.
3. Depends on how bad it is, but at most, $500 for a new motherbaord, (since samsung rapes you)
4. It will be fixed within 3 weeks.
5. If you're willing to insure, and pay shipping both ways, I'll do it for free. Short of a hardware issue, I can (and will), fix it. I'll restore it to the latest 4.3 firmware, and send it back. No charge if your phone is already unlocked.
Did you try any other version of odin or check your download .. try to download again.. maybe your file is currupt?
Please quote me and let me know what happens

I had a similar issue and in the end replace my phone
Before goign to samsung to this:
1. Change usb cable/port.
2. Check the downloaded file.
3. Download another firmware and try it. Somethimes some firmwares are bigger than others and need a pit file
4. Or in samsung kies press emergency recovery. Enter your device model number and serial number and samsung kies will tell you which firmware it came with and you should flash that firmware and download it from sammobile.com
I suggest going to step number 4 for a quick fix.

Hey, I've already sent it to Samsung and I've already tried all the steps but they didn't work. ._.
Odin failed and Kies would not connect my device, so emergency recovery didn't work.
But, could you give me any idea if they can fix it without replacing anything physical? (I'm just worried I'll have to pay **** ton of money trying to fix the phone.)
Just to remind, the phone does get to download mode. So, they will PROBABLY fix it without replacing anything right?
PROBABLY not 100% right?
Thanks anyways.

Samsung s3 soft brick help. Could not find a proper s3 forum to post in

I have an old soft bricked Samsung Galaxy s3.
During an update many years ago the phone restarted and the phone home screen had a static/rainbow appearance. It may be an emmc problem.
I need to have access to the phone to pull old data. I can boot into download mode (this mode shows no static appearance). Phone charges from PC USB ports but is not recognised by the computer.
Can anyone point me to a step by step guide on how to recover data and photos/videos/memos from the phone. I don't mind if I have to drop a few hundred in cash for repair tools. Will send a $200 donation to anyone who can lead me to a resolution of this problem with a payment method of your choice
You need to find technician nearest you that familiar with JTAG (direct programming) and extract them.
