[Q] Flash RM-801 with NCS failed - Nokia Lumia 800

OK, I got an old (used, second handed) RM-801, it's running WP7.8 (8858).
I wanted to flash it back to Tango (8773).
So I downloaded the firmware with data package manager, Started the product support tool, and followed these steps: open product->RM-801->programming->recovery->hold vol+ button and plug USB cable then click retry
But then NCS wont flash the device (it shows the retry dialog again) and my PC pops up a dialog says I have to format the disk before I can use it; and there is such a "Qualcomm CDMA Technologies MSM" mass storage device in my computer.
I'm using NCS 5.2.
What should I do now?
Thanks.

Okay, you need Qualcomm CMDA to flash, check my tutorial : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2681591
If that don´t work try Nokia care suite
Good luck

Thank you for the tutorial!
However seems the NssPro doesn't support flashing the stock firmware? It can only open *.nb files, and I can't find a custom Tango rom (or any WP7.5 based rom).
What should I do now?

DONE!
I followed the (part of the) instruction of #4 in this thread and my Lumia 800 is now running good old WP7.5!
Thank you! And @kingcartwright!

yes i tried that method too.. but no luck =(
i can't click programming button thats the problem... it's kinda deactivated I think
Are you opening product code RM-801 or have you moved the firmware to a different folder? Not much can be done from the RM-801 folder.
I'm just having problems installing Nokia Care Suite. It gets so far and I get a 1220 error.
Any ideas?

It's some odd registry error, right? I think you just click through it. You'll have to navigate to the program folder to open the launcher. IIRC, that's what I had to do.

so, how did you solve this problem? Ive got exactly same trouble wasting my time for days...
Do You ha e a screenlock code on the device. I had to remove my Outlook account, which requires a screenlock code, remove the code and then I was good to go.

This. In order for the Programming menu to be available, you need to select "Open Product" from the File menu and choose the correct product code (RM-819, RM-801, etc.).
My problem is I can never get passed the "Checking Mode" or "Starting" stage. I keep pressing the volume up button + insert USB cable until I feel a short vibration. After that, Windows will recognise my device as DLOAD and after a short while, the device restarts. Nokia Case Suite will then prompt me to unplug the USB cable, shutdown the device and do the volume up + insert USB cable routine again. Rinse and repeat. What did I do wrong? I am using Windows 7 64-bit.
EDIT: I solved my problems by going to the C:\Program Files (x86)\Nokia\Nokia Care Suite\Drivers\ directory and manually installing all the x64 drivers.
Im also having a few problems with NCS... i just figured I would piggy back off this thread rather than start a whole new one....
When installing I get a error that says.... "ERROR 1904.Module C:\Program Files (x86)\CommonFiles\nokia\Service Layer \C\Service Modules\ServiceModule_00003\msml4.dll failed to register" I hit ignore but now when i connect my phone to my PC... it isnt being recognized as DLOAD or QC or anything. I am at a loss... i went through and installed the drivers that were in the Nokia folder manually, except one it wouldnt install for some reason. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I am having the same problem on my lumia 920. I didn't find a solution yet. This thread is the only thing I found so far.
Edit: I tried ncs on x64 w7 and x86 w8
Not starting
my phone is not sarting after installing nopkia evolve

Vol UP and power, if it does a short vibration and shows a Qualcomm Storage device on Windows, and Windows asks you to format the device (which you click cancel)/this device shows on diskmgmt.msc or diskpart, THEN you have a flasheable device.
If you do Vol UP and power, and it does a long vibration and boots Windows Phone, you have the weird bootloader.
If you do Vol UP and power, and it does a short vibration and Windows recognizes the device as Nokia DLOAD, you have the new bootloader.
You actually don't need any driver if your Lumia is able to be flashed. Qualcomm drivers are needed only for development purposes.

My advice is to bring it to NOKIA CARE repair center and i hope you still have warranty with your lumia. If none, you can still have them reflash it. Thats the only option left to do. trust me i've been dealing with this issue for almost a month now. Ive gone to every 3rd party cellphone repair service but no luck.

Listen,,,,,this is important to tell you that it can brick your phone....but for me, it worked.:fingers-crossed:
First download and install 'Nokia care suite' from link below
http://download1us.softpedia.com/dl...e/mobile/Nokia_Care_Suite_5.0_2012.40.5.8.msi
Now at refurbish page, click on basic info in the right column ,it will expand with variant you currently have..so note it down .Example (My lumia variant is RM-803 )
Download and install navifirm+ from link below
http://www.symbian-toys.com/navifirm.aspx#download
Now open it up ,,,,at top left corner there is a server tabSelect Nokia care suite.
Now search for your phone below and remember to select the same variant that you noted..
On releases section ,,,,,select the last option (that is the latest version released up to now )
Select your variant on variant tab.......
On right side it will show file names ----download all....and they will be saved into fw folder....
Copy all it's contents....
Download and install Phoenix from link below
http://www.mediafire.com/?4vfzwa8xla87lwi
Once installed, Open c:/program files/nokia/phoenix/products and create a folder in it and name it as RM-xxx(according to your phone's code). Now paste the contains in this folder which you have copied from navifirm folder. Now connect your phone using usb data cable. Check whether cable connectivity driver is installed in your pc.
Now launch phoenix and open file\scan product. If you are unable to click on scan product, then go to product and click on product details.A series of product's details would pop up. Now select scan product. In connections box select your usb, bearing your phone code. Now select flashing/firmware update. A window will pop up and phoenix will automatically search the official firmware. If it doesn't then just click on the square button next to product code. Now all the 3 boxes will be filled with the products desired details. When everything is fine till now, then just click refurbish. The installations will start. Wait untill you get a successful message.
Press ok and now your phone will restart automatically and hurrahhhhhh..............!!!!!!! everything is fine as before..........
And now you are updated to 7.5:laugh:
If it helped you ,,,please press the thanks button...:fingers-crossed::good:
thx you bro... when i buy it i will try it!

I have the same exact problem. I've posted it here with no luck:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2126631
Looks like for some strange reason, we have a non-standard bootloader so when Zune asks the phone to restart in bootloader mode, it never identifies it as it is not the standard DLOAD mode... I guess the trick would be to flash a standard bootloader, but I don't know how to do it (most people want the reverse operation, that is, get our special bootloader from a standard DLOAD bootloader).
I hope someone could help us as I'd love to have the 7.8 update....
hello guys,
any luck with this?
I have the same problem has to do with bootloader Qualcom not let me install the latest update for nokia or drivers problems, someone told me that the driver take off nokia care suite and just let the zune but not so

Lenovo P780 -MT6589 device hard bricked - Need help

Hi, I think I am in deep trouble now. My p780 8gb is completely dead after trying to flash a TWRP recovery in to it using a flash tool. Not sure what went wrong I fiddled with some settings in flash tool like 'firmware upgrade' and 'download' and at last saw a Dram failed message. I was using the latest s226 Kitkat ROW. Now all I can see is a red led charging light glowing while connecting it to a computer. The device is not getting recognized by VCOM drivers so no use with flash tool any more. Tried to reboot in to recovery and meta mode but the phone simply does not turn on. Anyone knows how to unbrick this, kindly help.

Hi stympy,
Yes it is a 2014 January version. But to be honest I was using a ROM with 2013 version preloader but never faced any problem, Today purposefully changed it to the new 121kb 2014 preloader and everything was fine till I used the v5 flashtool to flash the twrp and I think I selected the upgrade option in it and flashed the twrp> found the ROM and preloaders from needrom.com from the uploader xxxsadistxxx .It worked flawlessly and then after first booting I configured the wi-fi settings again turned it off and tried to install the custom recovery. Now completely helpless because the phone is not getting detected by VCOM drivers.

3. Now power off the phone, and open the Device Manager, in Ports section.
4. With the Device Manager open, plug the phone this time powered off.
5. At this time in Device Manager/ Ports section, appeared for a second or two not in USB area something with.. MTK65...
6. Double Click fast on it because that will desapear very fast . If you missed the click for the first time unplug and replug the phone after about 5 seconds.
7. After you clicked on it all you have to do is update driver from MTK_USB__Driver_GOOOOODDD.rar archive, and voila you have drivers installed and now all you have to do is to flash you ROM.

Hi thanks a lot stympy. I am glad that you were spending the time and effort to help me. I saw that red button trouble shooting post in your TWRP thread and luckily for me after clicking on different options in device manager while setting a complete format in sp flashtool the device suddenly got detected and format was done. After the format the device has lost its imei number, BT code and Wlan codes. That was going to be a hectic job to reinstall imei with imei repairing tools and usage of Hexa editor for BT and wi-fi codes just because some drivers were not getting installed properly.. But to my sheer luck I had a "Data' back up in TWRP with my previous version prerooted rom . I was not that confident to get a restore of imei , BT and wlan codes because it is just a 'data' back up not full ROM. I ticked the md5 checksum and voila after installing the back up 'Data' everything , absolutely every single code in my p780 got reinstalled automatically .LONG LIVE TWRP DEVELOPERS......... May be even after formatting the complete flash drive of the phone it still keeps the imei and other codes in factory mode. I am not sure. Now phone is in perfect condition and I am ready for another go. Stympy please create a 2.7.1 twrp for 2014 preloader p780 8gb. thanks again for all your help

Hey Stympy, you seem to know quite a lot about this! I have the same problem with my p780 4GB. After flashing everything seemed ok, as I got a green circle in SPFlash tools. However now I am not able to boot anymore. When connecting my phone to my computer the red light goes on and Device Manager shows a new MTK USB Port. When pushing the red button it immediately disappears. Does not matter if I push it for 20 seconds, as soon as I let go its bak in device manager.
When trying to reflash using SPFlash, it seems to recognize my phone, but when trying to format or Upgrade or Download, the red bar only loads up to 141776 Bytes and stops. Sometimes I have to push the red button for the phone to get recognized.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
ps: CMIIT ID on the battery says 2013xxxxxxx so I guess its a 2013 model?

Hi. Can you tell me what firmware did you have ?
From what you described your phone seems to be from 2014. This are the simptoms when the preloader is messed up.
Look what you should try:
Download from here the preloader: http://forum.xda-developers.com/lenovo-p780/help/lenovo-p780-chineese-speed-version-t2874161
Replace your Curent ROM preloader with the one you downloaded.
Drivers from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/len...ial-kitkat-t2835605/post55587780#post55587780
Try this one and tell me if somethin goes wrong.
Waiting for Reply.

Hi. Download the rom you need for your phone from here !
Download SP Flash Tool 5 from here!
Download drivers from here and here !
BE CAREFUL USE ONLY WINDOWS 7 ! THIS IS NOT OPTIONAL! IF YOU DONT HAVE WINDOWS 7 LOOK FOR VMWARE AND INSTAL THERE A VIRTUAL MACHINE !

Fool me. I've tried to run CN on russian LiFE ROW with TWRP. You can laugh very loud.
1. unbricked with P780_S136_140306_Lang
cleared IMEI
2. IMEI recovered with Droid Tools
after reboting no gsm signal
3. NVRAM recovered from backup
No success.
SIM cards works fine on other mobile, 911 cal also work on this phone
now running on:
ROM: P780_S226_Life_XVIBE_by_Xakep
Baseband: P780.V23
Last idea is clone p780 (colleague has one) with IMEI change, mac address and sn. Now with which tool it'll be easier?
success
